Whisler wasn’t the biggest fan of summer. His outfit didn’t quite lend itself to the warmth of the season, and tonight was no different. The temperatures had been climbing higher and higher lately, and there wasn’t much of a respite when the sun went down, though, for once, the knight had taken things into his own hands and discarded his cape and outer coat, enjoying the warm breeze in nothing but his sleeveless tunic.

The clothing sat folded neatly on a bench and his hat sat atop it, and for a moment, he wondered why he hadn’t ever done this before. Why hadn’t he thought of shedding some clothing to keep cooler? It was a stupid thing to not think about, really.

Stretching, Whisler looked around, enjoying the view of the park he was in and idly wishing that someone he knew would show up. Perhaps he should send a message to Newgrange? Or Alya…no, maybe that wouldn’t be the best idea…and sending one to Ashanite would be even worse. Though…damn he wanted the General so badly.

Why couldn’t he just get over the dumbass and get on with his life?

He slumped onto the ground and rubbed the bridge of his nose, working to get his thoughts clear of the blue haired demigod. Ah well.

Suddenly, there was a dark spot on his radar. A small blip of someone involved with chaos. As Whisler stood, he realized that it wasn’t an officer, so it must be one of the corrupt senshi…well. Not anyone he knew, but that didn’t mean that he couldn’t get to know whoever it was. Maybe they’d have something interesting to say.

Quietly he made his way towards the other aura, and when the long, raspberry colored hair came into view he sighed. Nope. Nobody that he knew.

“Good evening. That outfit of yours looks like it’s suitable for this season, I’m a little jealous.” She was beautiful, that much was for damn sure. Though, the thought of a beautiful girl made him think of the other little one. Pisces. He hoped she was doing okay as well. Ah. How the mind could wonder.

One of the best ways to land herself in a bit of a hairy situation was to do exactly the opposite of what her Sovereign, Zinkenite, had tried to teach her with the snowball fight they had had just this past winter.

Wandering around aimlessly, not paying much attention to her surroundings usually didn’t end well. However, there was in fact a reason for her being out here in the first place rather in her usual spots surrounded by civilians which typically helped diffuse a situation before it turned into a fight.

Her purpose for being powered up this evening was twofold and for once energy gathering to meet her quote was not among them. On one hand she wanted to perform her due diligence and get a handle on who was more active around Destiny City this time of year. Senshi with uniforms similar to her own tended to hide inside during the winter months but now that it was warmer out, Meridiana expected to see an increase in activity. On the other hand, since encountering that brightly colored White Moon senshi, she had been secretly hoping to run into him again.

The evening had been quiet thus far but when a powerful aura, though not as strong as her General King’s, flared to life at the edge of her sense, Meridiana had the startled idea to quickly power down and find some place to hide. However, the casual pace at which they approached and the fact that they had undoubtedly sensed her in the vicinity for some time before making their presence known, piqued her curiosity enough that she remained put until they got close enough to see.

“Hello,” the corrupt senshi took hold of her skirt and curtseyed like a lady. “I would be immensely happy for something a little less open in the front. But I’ve learned to work with what I’ve been given. At least her heels were of sensible height which made it easy enough to run away if the situation called for it.

Meridiana looked at the pile of warm clothes he was holding and smiled. “What brings you around this late at night.” Perhaps he used similar tactics as she did and was trying to seduce someone earlier with a bit of a striptease. Likely not the case since Order typically had a bit more of a dignified air about them but the thought was amusing at least.

Whisler gave a grin at the curtsey and chuckled softly, his eyes warming to the corrupt in front of him. “Oh, you know. Doing my duty and keeping the city safe and free from…whatever.” He rolled his eyes and gave a soft laugh. “I’m happy to have the chance to speak with such a beautiful senshi though. You have such an interesting fuku, I’ve never seen one quiet that…”

What, revealing? Elegant?

“…Quite like that.” He was still smiling and moved just a bit closer, tossing the clothes over a low hanging tree branch. “My outfit is perfect for the cold months, but damn if it isn’t too hot for the middle of summer. My wonder is this cold mountain so it’s great for when I visit but…coming back to the city is quite unforgiving.”

The knight reached out a hand , grinning. “You have lovely hair too. It’s the color of raspberries. I love it. Though, the same question to you! What brings you out so late? I do hope you’re not getting into too much trouble.” He winked and grinned. “Though if you are, I’m most likely not going to stop you.”

“Why thank you," she replied. "In a faction filled with military uniforms, I do kind of stand out a bit. I may have been told once or twice that I look like a questionable secretary looking to cause a distraction or a lady of the night…” Meridiana shrugged her shoulders uncaringly and reached out to take his offered hand.

“Unfortunately the only trouble I seem to be having is dealing the knots in my ridiculously long hair.” Thank god it was only a temporary thing and, once she powered down, went back to a more reasonable length.

“So, kind Knight.” The corrupt’s eyes swept over him appraisingly as she tilted her head back to look up at the handsome man. Sunkissed golden spun hair with deep purple eyes and an amazing physique; she’d have to be careful with this one “Tell me, what is your name?”

He chuckled softly and brought her hand to his lips, kissing the back of it lightly and offering a courtly bow and a smile that would have melted the snow on his wonder. “I suppose the outfit would help you blend in around certain areas of the city. If you’re going to drain energy, why not take it from those that prey on people like that. It seems a fair trade to me. You get what you need, and they get taught a lesson in manners.”

He chuckled and reached out to touch her silky hair. “Do you ever think of braiding it or doing something with it while you’re out? I know with mine…it’s normally up when I’m home, at least while I’m sleeping. It gets in the way…Honestly, I never intended to let it get this long but…now that it is this long…I can’t seem to even think about parting with it. I love my hair.”

Whisler watched her and let go of the strand of hair that he played with, smiling once again. “I am Whisler, Knight of Polairs. And you, my lady? What is your name?” It was stupid. How the chaotic aura she radiated felt so bad, and yet he craved it. He wanted to be closer to it.

A large part of him still wanted to have it back for his own.

With an intrigued look on her face, Meridiana hummed thoughtfully as she watched the Knight carefully. Usually she felt very uneasy around those of his kind; senshi not so much, but anyone with a physical weapon was someone worth being wary around, if only to circumvent repeating the incident that happened back in January.

He seemed kind, if not understanding of her situation and position in the Negaverse. However, it did come as a bit of a surprise when he did not admonish her for her clothing or need to gather energy as she would have assumed he would have. Rather, he proposed alternative options that would work with the assets she had been given.

“I will take your suggestions into consideration,” She smiled up at him and stepped in close to fan her hand across his chest. A polite way of saying ‘thanks but no thanks’ without being so blunt since she was taking a bit of a liking to this Polaris Knight. “I will say my way tends to benefit all parties involved and keeps me a safe distance away from anyone who may shoot, or stab, me.” Those kind of unsavory people, though deserving of a good energy drain and in some cases even more punishment than that, were in her mind more dangerous than a good portion of her fellow agents.

“But you may call me Meri,” A very shortened version of her full name; Alphekka Meridiana. “Senshi of the Succubus.” She stepped back and bowed graciously to him. Not as deeply as if he were her Sovereign but still formal nonetheless.

Whisler glanced down at the hand and gave a smile, nodding slightly. “Well good. So long as you’re keeping yourself safe, that is what matters to me, Meri. I don’t like…when people get hurt. No matter what side they’re on. We are all people after all.”

Finally he drew back, gazing once more at the corrupt senshi, a new warmth in his gaze. “You should come to my wonder sometime. It’s beautiful, and so relaxing. There’s a hot spring, and I’ve fixed it up rather nicely. It…could be a date, if you were at all interested.” His words were teasing now, full of amusement.

“We can talk about anything and everything you may want to. And perhaps you could even help me out…I’d be happy to offer some energy in return…I have more than plenty to spare. Take some now, if you wish.” He had more than enough, and with his transcendence…well. He had even more than that. And perhaps…if he had a steady drain of energy from that…maybe the glow would fade and die.

Though…

He sighed suddenly. “Tell me, Meri…do you…do you know of a General named Ashanite? If you do…do you know how he’s doing?”

Meridiana’s eyes seemed to light up at the mention of a hot spring. “You are quite the gentleman to offer such a gift. I would love more than anything to accept however, I’m not sure I have much to offer in return.” She had been to several hot springs in the past but never a wonder, though her curiosity of these strange places had nearly prompted her to inquire more about them in the past, her lack of courage to leave Destiny City and potentially become a prisoner of the White Moon Senshi or their Knights was what kept her from pursuing such fantasies.

“I admit, I spend more time in the company of other corrupts like myself than with other officers.” She seemed a little sheepish at that admission. “But if you can give me some sort of a description I would be happy to look into it for you!” Though she would be upfront with the general in case this was not a mutual curiosity and they would rather information not be passed on. Loyalties were still to her own and if the answers to his inquiries put Ashanite in harm's way then she would have to work around it to keep him safe.

The corrupt looked up at him with renewed hope that he would consider the offer as a, at least temporary, reasonable exchange. “I do have to ask though. How come you’re so willing to help me out with this, my quota that is?” Meridiana canted her head to the side innocently, a bit baffled, yet grateful for his suggestions and concern she had to wonder what warranted such kindness.

“Don’t worry about paying anything back. This isn’t a you pat my back I pat yours…it’s more like…I just want to get to know you better. I…was once an officer. Long ago. And I nearly…came back to being one as well but…now I’m stuck with…” He gestured to his glowing cheek with his glowing hand and sighed.

“I’m just stuck. As for what Ashanite looks like…he’s handsome. Long, midnight blue hair, glasses. Arrogant expression and purple eyes that are just…” He sighed. “Almost as pretty as mine are.”

He held his hand out to her, giving a soft smile. “Take what you need, Meri. I want you to meet your quotas. I want you to be the best you can be. And if you take my energy, then you’re not hurting anyone. It’s an easy trade off. Besides. Maybe if you take enough of my energy…the glowing will fade. I doubt it but…” He shrugged.

“It’s a path I haven’t taken yet.”

Meridiana seemed to hesitated for a moment before taking his hand and with good reason. To date, he was by far the strongest she had encountered while alone with the only exception being her General King, Zinkenite. Should his friendly nature turn out to be an elaborate facade, there would be nobody that could save her. The possibility worried her greatly because she had already stood at death's door once and did not wish to do so again, at least not in the same year. But she had made a promise to herself, and Sovereign, which left little room for her to back out now.

When finally she gathered the courage to accept his offered hand, Meri’s fingertips barely brushed against his and at that moment she was reminded of the vibrantly colored senshi she had met no more than a month ago. While their auras opposed each other fiercely, perhaps more so for her than it did for him, she felt oddly drawn to Whisler. Then again, it could simply be because she craved the affection he seemed so willing to give.

With her free hand, the corrupt reached up to gently cup his cheek. “You seem so unhappy,” Her thumb brushed over the illuminated marks. “I’m not sure how much help I can be, but I’ll willing to try”

Meridiana motioned with her head for him to follow to a place where they could sit and chat while she gathered what energy he was willing to give. It felt almost reminiscent of the first time she had met Zinkenite; although he was a civilian at the time, he too offered her a similar offer that she couldn’t refuse. Though amusing, it did not turn out well for her in the end because his aura was just simply too much for her to even make a dent.

“There is only one in existence that I’ve drained completely. However, it was by request and I do not keep the energy for myself. A very dear friend is often plagued by nightmares and it seems to be the only way she can sleep peacefully.” Noctua was such a sweetie. It was, however, a bit of a tragedy with how her own sphere affected her so.

When she touched her cheek, he leaned against the warm hand and gave a smile, nodding. “Thank you. I would appreciate it more than you know.”

He walked with her, letting her lead the way and when they sat, he rested against her shoulder, closing his eyes. “That must be a hell of a way to live…poor girl.” Whisler felt very relaxed beside the corrupt, and perhaps it was because he was stronger, or perhaps it was just due to the fact that he had never really been repelled by the feeling of chaos. “I would appreciate not being drained completely, but please, take as much as you need to fill your quota. The glowing means I have more than enough to spare, and if anyone’s going to have it…I’d rather it be a friend.”

And Meri seemed so nice. So gentle. No threats or bluster, and obviously she was dedicated to people…helping out friends and…just being an all around good person.

Whisler began to smile and once again let his hand find hers. “My energy is yours, my dear. I’m ready when you are.”

Meridiana brought her hand up to hide her amusement at the way he craned his neck to the side in what appeared to be a rather uncomfortable position. “Here,” she scooted over just a bit then patted her lap. “Why don’t you lay down instead? It’s much more comfortable I assure you.”

While the openness of the front of her dress left little to the imagination, as long as he didn’t mind, neither would she. It’s not as if he needed to lay on his back and look up at her to continue on with their conversation.

“I’m curious,” Meri paused for a moment. She worried her lip as she debated whether or not it would be too forward to ask her question. But after a few seconds passed she continued. “If I may ask… what made you decide to leave?” Valeria had once spoken of potentially switching sides, and at the time she had talked her fellow corrupt out of defecting. But as time wore on she was beginning to realize just how much she had been living in the dark with her unknowing the full scope of the war they fought in.

Whisler hesitated for a moment and then did as she requested, curling up on the bench and laying his head in her lap, taking a moment to get comfortable before he looked up at her with a warm, gentle gaze. “It is comfortable, though I do insist…if I’m going to be down here, you had better play with my hair. I find it is one of my great weaknesses, and it would feel mighty nice…”

He winked and allowed his eyes to close once again.

“As to the answer of your question…the honest answer is that I don’t know. I have no real…solid memories of being with the Negaverse. When I made the change…I knew who I was in my civilian life, but things had to be explained for the powered side. I know that I was Captain Mariposite though. And I’ve had a few flashes of memories…I’ve been told by some people that…I had a change of heart and was unhappy with my work in the Negaverse. I suppose I was asking about purification and finally…found the right person to guide me there…and well. Here I am..”

With a sigh, Whisler snuggled a little closer to the corrupt. “…I remember the glowing though. I was…I was literally in the middle of being recorrupted. Being brought back to the Negaverse…back…back home…and I guess…I had the wrong thoughts. This happened and instead of becoming Mariposite again…I began to glow. Bound to my wonder…”

Meridiana did as he requested and began combing her lithe fingers through his long silky golden hair. With each passthrough she slowly gathered threads of his energy as she ran her manicured nails over his scalp. It was a motion that was not unlike what her own mother use to do when she was sick as a child; soothing for even her in a way.

“So your wonder wasn’t willing to let you go,” she hummed thoughtfully. It seemed as if this place was sentient to some degree; as if it had a will of its own. “You became its prisoner…” It was a sad notion to consider.

Although she wasn’t a proper massage therapist, Meri had enough experience to know where to, and how much pressure to apply for a satisfying, if not relaxing, head and neck massage. Many times her father would fall asleep on the couch as it seemed to help with migraines. Similarly, with Noctua, it helped lul her into a comfortable sleep.

“Did-” She hesitated for a moment as she looked down at his peaceful pace. Curiosity struck her as she just barely traced her fingers over the marks on his face. They felt warm, but not in an uncomfortable kind of way; then again, perhaps it was simply the brightness she was translating into this inviting feeling. “Did you know you would lose memories of your past when you changed sides?”

Whisler sighed happily and nearly began purring at her ministrations, relaxing fully and feeling as though he could fall asleep with little to no effort on his part. Though, perhaps a lot of that had to do with her gathering his energy…but sill…

He wouldn’t mind staying here. Or coming back to this soft, warm lap again in the future.

“Meri, you can keep that up for a hundred years if you want to. With how nice that feels, I am more than happy to make our meetings a regular occurrence, if you’re up to it. Get your quota for no effort what so ever…”

When she touched the snowflakes that glowed on his cheek, he opened his eyes to look up at her, sighing. “I’m…not really sure if I knew. Though, the fact that I had all of my identification and a great deal of money…and some notes to myself about what to do to get the rest of it…kind of clued me in that I must have known it was a possibility, but since I don’t…remember being Mariposite, I’m not sure. I knew it would happen when I went back, Ashanite and I discussed it a little…and I was afraid of losing my memories of him…but I trusted that he would care for me…” Whisler sighed again. “…I miss him sometimes. A lot of the time. But I don’t know. Other times I think that whatever I feel for him is one sided. I fall in love far too easily.”
