Renee hadn't been feeling like her usual self lately. She had gone to events to try and meet people, but she hadn't managed to meet anyone. She'd even gone to the Hunter's Jubilee, which was supposed to be the event for romance, but that too, was a bust. She had continued to bake, of course, because baking was her life's work and she had orders to fill and send out, but she felt lonely.
For a time, she'd considered adopting a little one of her own and raising them up to be a little baker. Yet, after more consideration, she realized she wasn't ready to be a parent. She'd heard that parenthood could be expensive and she'd reasoned that if she couldn't afford a storefront, she probably couldn't afford a child of her own.
Back to square one, she'd thought. It was many days after until a new thought occurred to her. She might not be able to invite a little one into her home, but why not another adult. She'd heard in passing of other nightmares or daydreams that would pass through towns looking for a place to stay while they explore. Maybe she could offer one of her rooms out to them, Renee had thought in exchange for some help around her kitchen. If they had prior baking skills, great, but she would happily teach anyone who didn't. She was mostly in it for the company, after all.
So, she wrote up an advertisement and started posting it where she could, including on street poles. It had her name, her number and her house address. She'd even added a scented cupcake sticker on the posters she put out. Hopefully, someone would take an interest in it and she'd hear back. And hopefully it would be soon.
