You arrive at the bottom of a marble stairwell, opening up to a round foyer. Cracked tile forms the remnants of a mosaic at your feet, forming the image of a pastel starry sky. Light filters down from a spherical chandelier, casting vague images of figures and creatures that flicker on the walls, and above that a domed milk glass ceiling illustrates vague nebular clouds. Figures surround you, elegant and masked, and it’s then that you realize that somewhere along the journey, you’ve been masked yourself, your clothing drawn in long lines and shimmery fabrics. Powered up or powered down, you notice no distinct auras in the people around you, whether they may be order or chaos aligned, or if they have any power at all. Occasionally, you see the flicker of the familiar--a silhouette your heart knows, a pair of eyes that have met yours before, but it will take some work to suss out the friends among the strangers. You may stay in the foyer, or follow the soft lilt of music up the stairs to the astrarium, a balcony with a filigreed banister above the main floor punctuated at the top of the stairs by a great round window. Opposite the staircase is a pair of white doors wrought in rusted gold, locked to the touch. As far as you can tell, the host is nowhere to be seen. What do you do?

Welcome to the wonder of Chauvet! At present your characters are free to explore the floors presented above; keep on the lookout for new zones to open up as the event progresses. To maximize everyone’s enjoyment of the event, please observe the following notes, rules, and guidelines:
To preserve the linear time scale of the event, characters may only be present in one location at a time. If you would like to move a character from one location to another, you must post an exit in the thread the character is currently is present. This need not be an exhaustive tag--it can be as simple as “Chauvet walked up the stairs. [Exit to Astrarium]”. All characters begin in the foyer, but for simplicity you may begin by writing their entrance in the Astrarium instead. New prompts will be added every 48-72 hours, corresponding to a one hour change of in-game time. To be respectful of other players, please allow 24 hours for a response--however, given the time-sensitive nature of this event, feel free to move forward through the event after this grace period. Your character starts as masked when they arrive at the gala. While masked, they cannot discern any auras of characters around them, nor do they emit a discernible aura to nonmasked powered characters. Additionally, any attempts to explicitly say their own name will be autocorrected, or ‘Benedict Cumberbatched’--they will say a series of words that start with the same letters and share the number of syllables, but otherwise do not relate to their identity. For example, if Chauvet tries to tell someone who she is, she might say Cobalt Soup instead of Chauvet Squire. Instead, people may refer to themselves as their epithets freely. No one is compelled magically to wear the masks and may take them on and off freely, but they may receive disappointed looks for spoiling the fun. The mask does obscure identity but is not a full glamour. Players may determine how ‘recognizable’ their own characters are to other characters to maximize gameplay and fun, but the following model is a suggested guideline:
Acquaintances (1-2 onscreen meetings) are not likely to recognize each other without external cues. Working Colleagues (3-5 onscreen meetings, no strong emotional connection) may recognize each other after dedicated conversation, by voice or features such as eye/hair color or distinctive build. Friends/Rivals (3+ onscreen meetings, emotional connections present) may recognize each other by voice or features or perhaps by more subtle features as mannerisms or behavioral quirks. Significant others (5+ onscreen meetings, powerful positive/negative connections, or otherwise significant catalysts to character stories) may recognize each other by silhouette or behavior from a distance. Characters may differ in their ability to identify others that are even intimately familiar with each other, dependent on many internal features. In general, emotionally receptive characters should have an easier time of identification than emotionally stunted characters. That said, if there’s some device that creates maximum drama and fun, go for that. We’re all here to popcorn.gif at stories, and this tool is meant to build stories, not restrict them. The Gala is a strictly non-combative event--any characters found to be aggressive or intending to harm another will be forcibly removed from the wonder. This is meant to be an in character consequence, and to the extent possible players will be contacted before any ejection occurs. However, if your character comes out swinging, they will be removed. That's that. For the purposes of eavesdropping and interjecting, any post made in an ORP portion of the event may be heard or commented on. Private conversations may be held on the balcony of the Astrarium in breakout threads--simply have your character exit to the Astrarium and make a new thread titled [Ast] Clever Title Here (OC 1/OC 2). However, even in private threads, you may find yourself interacting with NPC guests, so it’s best to keep your guard up! There may be changes to the game state--they’ll be added here as well as indicated in individual prompts. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact AMItotic, either by PM or at AMItotic#5269 on Discord. My inbox is always open!
UPDATE: As I've been asked to clarify, the Gallery of Chauvet is hosted outside the standard domain of In the Name of the Moon, the events occurring on this forum will not be considered shop-canon while written solely in this guild. However, at the conclusion of the event, I will be cross-posting all ORPs back into the main guild so that participants can receive full credit for the work that they do. I am likewise happy to assist any player who would like help cross-posting their smaller threads to make the process as convenient as possible.

It's no secret that the Gallery of Chauvet event wouldn't be possible without a team of people, and I'd like to take the time to celebrate and thank the village that raised this project:
Ivynian for extensive moral support, grounding, and creative design; kuropeco for assistance with the beautiful graphics work; Beejoux, Endejester, Ghouliboo, Lucyal, Nuxaz, Pixie Nyxie, Strickenized, Syrie, and Wuthering Gee for the sanity checks, beta reading, and idea generation; Everyone who signed up and felt hype for the ball, you guys are the best!
Thank each and every one of you for the privilege of writing stories together.

Thank you everyone for participating in the Gallery of Chauvet event! The midnight prompt marks the last of the moderated content for the evening, but you shouldn’t feel the need to rush off just because it’s now the stroke of midnight! Players may write exits and goodbyes for their characters at their leisure in the thread they currently occupy, or they may continue on with breakout threads in this guild to finish conversations or moments that they would like to write in the setting, in any room or hour. Your characters have also been given permission to take one item from the gallery--presumably, it is their own, but players who receive explicit permission from someone else may elect to have their character steal an item contributed by that player’s characters instead. If they choose to do so, please name in bold the item they are taking upon their exit, and I’ll have it removed from Chauvet’s stores. This is not the only opportunity to reclaim these items--if you’d like, there will be opportunities in the future for follow-up roleplay to secure any and all character relics.
Given the unique nature of this event existing outside of the In the Name of the Moon guild, I will leave all threads open for response for one week and then transcribe the event in its entirety to the official guild so that participants can receive credit for their hard work in the month of June. If you don’t have time to write an exit in the upcoming week, no worries! You’ll just want to post your exit in that upcoming thread to receive credit for growths or crown tokens. This guild will exist indefinitely, to allow people the space to write their character plots in the setting at their leisure, but to be clear--all threads must be moved to the In the Name of the Moon guild before they can be considered canon in that setting. If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please contact me through Discord and I would be happy to discuss it.
I want to acknowledge all of the people who worked incredibly hard to make the Gala a stunning success--with the help of Ivynian, Lucyal, and Shazari, the gala event inspired twenty-six pieces of unique art for characters! I’d also like to thank endejester and kuropeco for their excellent commissioned work and dedication to making the event look the best it could be. And finally, I want to thank everyone who showed up to participate and write words with each other. It was such a blast to write stories with each other, and I loved seeing the wonderful and creative things this community is capable of. As of this post, we’ve written nearly 500 posts together in the short span of two weeks--you guys are rock stars, and should be proud of the things we do when we all come together. Truly, you all deserve the highest of fives.
