Tea Leaf was one of the dim sum places in Destiny City, and it was his personal favorite. For seating Xi-Wang had, while greeting a few of the workers he knew, headed to the back of the restaurant. Around tables and workers, pushing carts, he found them a seat near the doors leading to the kitchen.

"We can get the food carts just as they come out with the food. First though we need tea. I hope you like tea...cause it is traditional...and normal to drink at dim sum." He was sure she did like tea...but green tea he didn't know about.

"Any rules for dim sum I'll go over...but it's simple really." Though he was sure in China it was a bit more complicated, it wasn't so much here. "For tea - we serve eldest first...so you." Since he was certain she was older than he was. "So I serve you...and you'll serve me. In return for me serving you...tap the table. Either finger tips or knuckles...some do one and some do the other." As someone was already headed there way to find out about their tea order, as there were options other than green tea. It was just..that was the most popular and common.

Rhona followed closely behind Xi, still feeling very out of place and aware that she was very out of her element. Her energy was nervous, to be sure, but it was also excited. Trying to things with one of her dearest friends. It was like Xi had picked her up and deposited her soundly outside of her comfort zone.

It was nice, she decided, and she made a mental note to take Xi to a tea parlor that she frequented for high tea some day.

Beyond the feeling of anticipation, Rhona was hit with the smell of all kinds of foods cooking and simmering away. Something deep and earthy that Rhona was not used to smelling. Continental food could be spicy or savory, but this was something altogether different. It wasn't fishy persay, but it was definitely sea-salty. And meaty. And... and something else Rhona was unable to identify as Xi led her through the restaurant and to a table.

Still unused to being taken care of, as opposed to taking care of others, Rhona sat with her hands in her lap as she listened intently. Tea was not a new concept for her by any stretch of the imagination, but she tended toward the darker English teas and flavored blends like Earl Grey. Chinese tea, she knew, was different on almost every front.

"Um... okay..."

So many questions. First of all, why was the food on carts? Rhona had never seen that outside of really fancy restaurants, and even then it was only for the dessert course. Also, how did they tally up the bill if they were just grabbing off of carts? Also, did they stop the cart or just grab as it went? Also...

"Where does the knocking come from. I mean why do we knock?"

"I know you like tea...but I don't know if you've ever had a Chinese tea. If you drink cold foods...while eating oily or greasy food it can upset the stomach." Deciding to explain things, so Rhona could learn, he shifted a bit in his seat. To those who knew him, were close to him, they knew greasy and oily foods didn't sit well with him at all. He tended to burp up oil, in a nasty tasting way, each time. It was, in his mind, worth it...even if he didn't like it. He should likely find some medication for it, but he'd never thought too much on it. It was why he avoided pizza and other such foods most of the time though.

This food was the exception, as was all Chinese food, because it was home...it was comfort.

"We knock out of respect. My mother told me, when I was little, it was one of the things she taught me as a child....when we still ate Chinese food and on occasion went out for it." As the tea pot, and cups, were set down he went to pour Rhona her tea.

"My mother told me that an emperor, in Ancient China, wanted to go and live like his people - to see things like they did. When he did this he wanted his servants to treat him as a the commoner he was dressing and acting as. But still being emperor, and wanting to show proper respect, so when they arrived at a restaurant and the emperor served them tea...they did that as a way to represent bowing. Since they couldn't actually bow to him. It's also simpler than thanking someone. It lets you thank them while not saying anything - so conversation can continue. It's why it's a kept part of table etiquette." It made sense, with how Asia was with manners it made sense that the servants had to somehow show respect, and thanks, to the emperor pouring their tea. It also made sense that it was kept even now.

Moving to set the pot down, wanting to keep to proper manners, he motioned to the tea pot gently. "When it's empty we'll turn the top so it is upside down. That'll tell a waiter, or waitress, that we need more hot water." Better than flagging someone down or shouting. It was more polite.

"He must have been a benevolent emperor then," Rhona remarked, admittedly getting a bit lost in the romantic notions of ancient China. What had made the emperor want to live like his people? What did he learn while he was doing this? Was it what he had hoped to learn? However, for all of the beautiful shades of jade and soft pink that Rhona was imagining, try as she might, she could not stop episodes from Undercover Boss from creeping in her head, shattering said illusion.

Just in time too, since she had nearly missed Xi pouring her tea. She knocked, perhaps too fast, and winced at her rush. She should probably slow down. This seemed like a rather slow-paced ritual. She tried again, whether it was appropriate or not, but slower this time.

"It's nice that you don't have to bother the staff when you're finished," Rhona remarked with a grin as she poured for Xi. She hadn't paid attention to how Xi had poured for her, wrapped up in his story about the masquerading king, but she hoped she was at least doing it right.

"Is this okay," she asked softly, embarrassed by her lack of understanding despite the fact that it was only Xi-Wang she'd be humiliating herself in front of.

"Perhaps." Came the soft, almost whisper like, response. He wasn't sure, he didn't even know which emperor it was supposed to be. He didn't even know if it was true or not. But couldn't that be said for a lot of ancient stories? Not just from China, and Asia, but elsewhere as well.

Laughing softly as Rhona went to knock on the table he placed one of his hands on her shoulder. "You don't need to rush or worry. People won't worry too much here." She wasn't Chinese and they would know, even if she was with him. "It takes time to get used to things which other cultures do. Don't worry or rush yourself. Take things slow." Shrugging a bit, a soft smile in place.

"I do like how we don't have to bother the staff either...or make a scene - especially that." Since he didn't like to draw attention to himself. Calling, loudly, for more water would be embarrassing for him, even if it was an innocent thing to ask for. It wasn't something he could do. "That's fine. No worries. Now for the food - grab whatever you like...but the bottom is hotter...though since we're right near the kitchen doors we should be good no matter what." When it came to getting the hottest food available. They were likely to get it hot no matter where on the stacks they grabbed from. "If you want to know what's in something ask me. I can also give you the Chinese and american names for things. We'll talk about other things once we have food on the table."

"Um..." a cart rolled by as Rhona thought for a moment. Everything smelled wonderful, and what she could see looked delicious as well. The problem was that she had no idea where to start. Not to mention that reaching over and grabbing seemed so odd to her. She glanced at Xi a couple of times and the folded her hands in her lap -- a demure gesture which was wholly unnatural to her.

"I think... I think I'd like to follow your lead, Xi."

She tried to ignore the way "other things" hung ominously in the air. She knew what he wanted to know. Who she was before all of this. She's told him in abstract once before but... it had been so vague and unclear. Would he... would he leave her if he knew the truth? Would he tell everyone who she was? Who she really was? Rhona began to tremble slightly as she waited for the questions, bracing herself for the absolute worst. Xi running from her. Liam leaving her home in fear. Quinn questioning her trust in her. Jett and Raven changing the locks

Lavender changing her number.

Again.

Shaking his head at the gesture from Rhona, it really didn't suit her, he nodded once. Motioning to one of the cart driving ladies, who was just coming out of the kitchen, he was happy to see her stop at their table. "It's easy, promise Rhona."

Asking what was on the cart got him an English answer, rather than Chinese. With most of the people here knowing him he was sure it was for Rhona's sake, since she obviously didn't know Chinese...or at least they figured it was obvious. Maybe he should teach her some Chinese...or at least how to order food in Chinese and the basic words she'd need in such a place. It was an interesting idea, and one he was sure she wouldn't' mind. Wasn't she working on Thai in order to help that other member of their court? That was, like Chinese, or language with several tones.

"You don't mind if I get chicken feet...do you?" He asked, glancing from the cart to Rhona. Silent question in his dark eyes, some people had a thing against the food. It could, and he understood why, be a turn off to some. It wasn't like he'd expect her to eat it...ohhh...but what if she might think he would? "I don't expect you to try it - I mean unless you want to. I like them....I just know it might be gross...to watch, even if you aren't eating them. And I don't want to get them if they'll bother you." He knew to some people seeing parts, like actual feet with claws and all, might bother some people. He understood that. He didn't want to bother Rhona - never. She was family.

While he waited for the answer he asked the woman, who was being patient as ever, if they could get the rice noodles and the siu mai. After a moment he asked for har gao "

Chicken's feet? Rhona had always assumed that such a dish had been an embellishment courtesy of Hollywood. She didn't think anyone actually ate them. In retrospect, she felt kind of bad assuming that something she didn't understand was a fiction...
'
"Uhh, no. Of course, I don't mind! Try anything twice, that's what I say!"

Despite the bravery in her voice, Rhona couldn't stop the pang of dread that shot through her. Saying she was alright with trying something was one thing, actually seeing it and trying it was a whole other. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. She ate hot dogs, after all, and she'd seen a video about international reactions to those things. Maybe it was the same thing?

Of course once they got through the ordering there would be the issue of what Xi wanted to know. The day after they'd met, Rhona had told him as much as she could... as much as she felt comfortable. What else could he want to know? Who Micah was? Did Rhona even remember? She wrung her hands in her lap nervously, waiting for that axe to drop.

"Try anything twice...are you planning to try them then?" He asked, already asking the woman with the cart if she had them. When she shook her head and pointed to another cart, signaling them over, he was able to get them from the other server. Watching the basket be placed on the table, and opened, they were in fact feet - claws and all.

"If you don't want them you don't have to try them...they are a lot of small bone and the texture can be a thing.": As well as what they certainly looked like, they left no room for picturing them as being anything else.

When the ladies left he settled into his seat. "I met a captain...." Trailing off as he worked over his words slowly. "He was at a friends school when I ran into him. He claims he was....hurt...by one of ours - hurt in a deep way. Something beyond the normal." He whispered, keeping his voice low. "I-I don't know if it's true. I don't know the member very well..." Shrugging in a rather hopeless manner he sighed.

"He's good at information gathering...I don't remember how it came around to my missing family...but I got papers from my mothers home. He tracked my father down. I-I have a half sister and my grandparents are still alive in Beijing. It's something...I don't think the captain likes me though...so I don't know why he helped me. Maybe he did like me and now he doesn't. I-I don't know." Another shrug of his shoulders. He didn't know if he'd done something wrong, though he could assume that he had. He just wished he knew what.

I met a captain.

Oh god was that all? Rhona let out a sigh of relief as she pondered over the baskets. She chose some buns and dumplings for herself while she listened, even delicately plucking a clawed foot from the basket.

Hurt in a deep way

Rhona choked on her tea, working quickly to cover her mouth and clean the spill with her napkin. After a moment of contained coughing, she finally nodded, averting her gaze. So he'd met Faustite... and he knew, at least tangentially, about Sinope. How much, however, was impossible to know at that moment. Xi-Wang wasn't one to play things close to the vest. Chances are if he knew about the assault, then he'd have asked about it with a straight question. And Faustite was one to keep his cards exceedingly well hidden, and it was unlikely that he would have divulged the full extent of his experience.

And, beyond all of that, she wasn't certain how much to fill Xi in. It was extremely sensitive all around.

"Yes," she ventured carefully. "What all did Faustite tell you?"

More questions swirled around her head. How was he? Did he look well? Was he still angry? Something deep and well-buried rose within her, despite all of her own hurt and betrayal. She still wanted, for some reason, to protect the half-youmafied boy.

"I-I don't know if what he said about one of our own...what they did. If it's true. They vanished, didn't they?So did Kit....weren't they friends?" Could it have had to do with that perhaps? He had wondered why Kit had vanished so suddenly, with little warning, and maybe it did have to do with this?

"He was...hurt by it all I think. I can't remember it all, I was too shocked by the claim. I don't doubt him though...but I can't picture it. I don't know our member. But to lie about something like that..." Shaking his head he took a chicken foot to nibble on slowly. "I can't imagine making up such a thing. No one would - right?" Though he knew it was a lie. Some people did make up assault stories. People made up all kinds of stories, for all different reasons.

"He told me enough, a lot, more than I wanted to know. I don't know if he told me everything but I know enough." Enough to hope it wasn't true but he was almost certain it was all true.

"My father....my father was - is - a General in China. He won't say anything, I don't want to know, but he knows about me. He knows I won't change." That he wouldn't join the Negaverse and become a corrupted senshi. He'd explained it to his father, he'd had to. Losing whatever sort of family he'd had, with his mother, at an early age he wasn't about to give up the family he'd gained for himself. They were all precious to him, even if it had angered his father he would have dug his heels in - for once. He wouldn't have given in, as was his usual behavior, he would have stuck to it. The dark mirror court, small as it was, was his family. He liked how small they were, they felt close knit and tight...secure and safe. He wouldn't give it up for anything. His father accepted it, at least he wasn't white moon.

"People lie about everything... but not in this case. As far as we know, and with all of the evidence we have, what Faustite told you was the truth. And..." Rhona took a shuddering breath, bracing herself for what else she had to say.

"And when I found out I kicked Jack out. There was no telling, after that, what he was capable of. Whether or not he'd do that to me or anyone else I kept with me."

She didn't mention Jett and Raven's daughters, though the thought nearly made her vomit.

"That week when I have to reintroduce everyone to the mirrors in my house... it was because I smashed the old ones. I changed the locks and that's why you all got new keys. And then I snapped his pen in two.

"He's not 'one of us' Xi. Maybe he was once, but he renounced us when he... when he did that. He will never again be one of us. And if Kit left because of our rightful punishment then..." Rhona voice caught in her throat, causing her to falter in the anger that she wasn't aware was building in her voice. She took a shaking drink of her tea and continued to study the wood grain of the table between her and Xi-Wang. It was a long silent moment before she finally raised her eyes, glistening with a pain she hadn't allowed herself to feel for so long.

"If Kit and decided to side with a rapist then he isn't one of us either. There are very few sins in the world that I will not forgive. And Jack committed one of them."

Honestly, Rhona wished that Xi had asked about her past now that it was all laid bare. At least that could be crafted to be... romantic in some ways. This... this was raw and bloody and cast Rhona is a light that she was not proud of. Everything she did for Jack... and he took it all knowing what he had done.

"I understand," Rhona said softly, folding her hands in her lap, "if you think less of me for what I did. But just know that I'd do it again. And again. And again."

Oh...so it was all true, he'd figured as much but had feared it. "Of course. I understand that. I'd be worried also." He wouldn't trust someone who could do that. He didn't know what had triggered Jack to do it, as he didn't know what had happened in the lead up nor did he know Jack. But if someone could be pushed that once than it could happen again, he was sure of that. "I would have kicked him out also. You were being safe, for yourself and others." Wanting to reassure Rhona that he agreed with her decision, as he knew it likely had been hard to make. Not over what he'd done but because he was a DMC senshi and Rhona viewed the court as family, like he did.

"You were protecting the majority of the family." The majority of the court. Though he did wonder where Jack was now, if he was ok.

"You snapped his pen....you can do that? Wouldn't magic...repair it?" He asked in a shocked whisper, eyes wide. He wasn't aware that such a thing could be done. For Rhona to have done that... She was really making her point known and sending a strong message, to anyone who knew about it.

Watching Rhona carefully, tilting his head to catch whatever emotions he could see on her face, he reached out a hand to touch one of her own. "We're family...the court. He's a risk....if we can't trust him...then you were right - he isn't one of us." They needed some morals, even during a war. "I hope Kit didn't leave because of that. He just...he didn't say. He just said he might move soon. He didn't say to where or when. I just...found out suddenly. I'm just glad when you changed mirrors it was just that - a change in mirrors. It wasn't you doing like Kit did." And abandoning him, and their court, he couldn't take someone else just vanishing from his life. Especially Rhona, he needed her.

"I understand what you did....and I support it. I don't think - no - I know I couldn't have done it. But I agree with it." He'd have told someone else, let them do what he wasn't strong enough to do. He wasn't that strong, and he doubted he ever would be. Some things he just wasn't good at, and he knew and admitted it. He knew he was weak, especially when compared to some other court members, but he did what he could. He'd have told someone and that was enough.

Again, Xi was better than Rhona had any right to ask him to be. She laid a hand gently over his and sniffled a little, trying to force her eyes to dry. If he would have rejected her... she would have understood, but it might have destroyed her. No. It would have.

"Um, yeah," she answered, drying her eyes with her free hand. "Yeah, you can snap it. Just like you can snap any pen. But once it's broken you'd need a cat to repair it. And my guess is that every chaos cat is aware of Jack's actions and isn't going to be too keen on repairing it should he come back.

"But um," Rhona cleared her throat, taking another big gulp of her tea before she finally began to eat, "Hang on, you said that you had a half sister? And a dad who's a general? Fill me in on that, that sounds way more interesting than dead news."

"Y-yeah...I'd assume they'd know about it." The idea that his pen could be snapped, that his family could in a sense be yanked away from him. But he didn't think anyone could get a hold of his pen to do it, no one from any other faction really. There were only two people outside of his court who knew who he was, who knew both his sides, and he didn't think either of them would take his pen and snap it....well maybe one would. One was still his friend. The other he might have upset in some way, though how he wasn't sure.

"Did you ask him, Jack, about it?Did he..admit to it?" He questioned softly, going back to finishing his chicken foot before going for something else, he didn't even look at what he was grabbing with his chop sticks.

"Mmm, yeah. I have a half sister, Fanglan. She's sixteen, I'm glad I've been able to talk to her online like I have. She's very different from me." But she had grown up in a very different household. She hadn't been shamed for what and who she was...hadn't been made submissive and to always doubt herself, like he'd been. She was bright in his opinion. "Yeah - my father. There isn't much to say there. We don't talk about it."
