Birthday: September 8th (1993)

Hated Food: Spicy foods do horrible things to his stomach.
School/Occupation: Jonah graduated from DCU with a BA in History, but he hasn’t done anything worthwhile with his degree. Over the last several years, he’s bounced between a bunch of random jobs but hasn’t found the right fit yet. At the moment, he’s unemployed.
Hobbies:
Reading – No matter how often Jonah might try to develop a hobby that would put him in closer contact with other people, he always falls back on his more solitary pursuits — reading being chief among them. As a child, he loved the simple act of briefly inhabiting the different worlds found in storybooks; even now, he could pass his every day absorbed in one novel or another and not feel as if he’s wasted a single moment. Jonah is never more content than when he has a book in hand. Reading offers him the chance to go on numerous adventures without stepping out of his comfort zone.
Sudoku – When talking to other people feels like too huge of an undertaking, it’s easier for Jonah to step aside and focus on something that stimulates his mind. Like reading, he can work his way through his many sudoku books in the presence of other people without having to interact with them; he can be among people to ease his loneliness, but save himself the awkwardness of conversation by keeping himself busy. Besides, solving a puzzle gives him a sense of accomplishment he doesn’t often experience in other areas of his life.
Nightlife – It might seem strange that someone as severely introverted as Jonah would enjoy an active nightlife, but he’s developed a fondness for it over the years — within reason, of course. He might attend some of the more lively clubs in town, but he doesn’t dance. He might pass a few hours in a crowded sports bar, but he doesn’t join in on any of the revelry. He listens to the music, he watches the people, and he drinks enough that for a little while, some of the tension he always carries around starts to ease. His favorite place is a dueling piano bar downtown. Sometimes he entertains the thought of working there as a pianist, but he knows he’d never have the confidence to do so.
Virtues:
Obedient – Jonah does what he’s told, mostly because he wants to do what’s expected of him, but also because it’s easier to follow directions and get things done himself rather than fight it out and potentially end up having to do it anyway. Disobeying is really just a waste of time in his mind. He’s often been praised for his level of obedience, which only makes him more willing to continue to make the effort. Compliments have always been few and far between when it comes to other aspects of his personality. He’ll take whatever positive attention he can get and do whatever he needs to in order for it to continue.
Cautious – True to his timid nature, Jonah likes to know what he’s getting himself into ahead of time. He doesn’t want to jump into something without a clue. He likes listening and observing and getting the information he needs to do a good job. Jonah isn’t usually the type to be reckless or impulsive; he relies on cold, hard facts more than gut instincts. He doesn’t want to get hurt, or get himself in over his head. He doesn’t want to inconvenience other people either. Jonah isn’t necessarily slow, but he’d like to make sure he’s aware of most of the variables before getting involved.
Empathetic – Despite his reserved manner, Jonah enjoys helping people where he can. Sure, many of the things he does are things that are expected of him, but he’s not without compassion. He has feelings. He isn’t just a dumb shell walking around being everyone’s doormat. He can feel joy, and he can feel sorrow, and it’s very likely that he’ll feel those things based on the actions, reactions, and feelings of others. He doesn’t like to see the people he cares about (or even random people on the street) sad, or upset, or angry, or disappointed. Jonah provides encouragement when it’s needed, assistance when it’s asked for, and generally does what he can to make life easier for other people.
Flaws:
Unadventurous – Jonah likes to play by the rules. You could say he’s a bit of a stickler for them. Broken rules mean trouble. Chances are it’s going to come around and bite him in the a**, and karma’s a b***h so he’d really rather not deal with that. Jonah sticks to what he’s comfortable with and follows directions to a T rather than veering off onto his own path. He’s definitely not the person you want to go to for creative ideas or a fresh insight on things. He’s an exceptional follower, but put him into any sort of position of leadership and he’ll flounder. He’s not charismatic enough. He’s not ambitious enough. He’s not imaginative enough. Putting himself out there and trying to go above and beyond and strive for great things is too terrifying.
Reserved – As much as he likes other people, and as much as he wants to believe that most people are good and reasonable, Jonah still tends to hold himself back, whether it be from making emotional attachments with others, or expressing himself more openly. Jonah keeps his emotions pent up, especially the negative ones. He doesn’t trust himself to be able to maintain any sort of relationship — not friendship, not romance, not anything. So he keeps to himself. He lingers along the periphery, watching but rarely taking part in anything. He’d rather not let too many people into his own personal bubble. Jonah’s sure it’s better than ultimately disappointing someone, and he’s convinced that, no matter what he does, he’ll always be a disappointment.
Naïve – Jonah likes to think the best of people. It isn’t so much that he lacks an understanding of the world — he’s certainly aware that people can be evil and life can be unfair. He understands pride, and greed, and violence, and he knows bad things often happen to good people. But he still likes to believe that things aren’t as bad as they seem. There’s got to be some good somewhere, in everyone. Unfortunately, Jonah’s need to believe the best in people means he can be easily manipulated. He knows this, but he doesn’t care to change. At least he’s helping someone, right? At least he’s useful to them; someone must benefit from it, and that makes it okay, doesn’t it?
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: Jonah has wide teal eyes that tend to give him a vaguely terrified look. He wears contact lenses due to being near-sighted, or a pair of glasses when he’s feeling particularly tired or lazy.
Hair: Slightly wavy and ash blond, Jonah’s hair is thick and fluffy looking. He keeps it a little shaggy, with the result that he’s frequently pushing his unruly bangs out of his eyes.
Face: Jonah has a round, youthful face, still quite boyish, and though his smiles are barely more than a small quirk of the lips, they’re warm when he manages them. More often than not, he can be caught with a dazed look on his face, like he never manages to get enough sleep.
Skin Tone: Jonah has pale, creamy skin that’s prone to burning easily if he stays outside too long.
Body Type: In a family of physically fit people, Jonah stands out as the thinnest among them. He’s skinny to the point of looking unhealthy, with narrow, bony shoulders, knobby knees, and absolutely no muscle definition to speak of. He stands at a less than average height of 5’8”, and tends to look even smaller than he is due to his penchant for hunching in on himself.
Clothes: Most of Jonah’s wardrobe consists of skinny jeans in various washes and colors, simple t-shirts, cardigans, and oversized hoodies. He layers his clothing all year round, partly as a means of easing his self-consciousness, and partly because he runs cold even at the height of summer. Colorwise, he prefers blues, greens, and purples.
