Jacques took a sip from his "non-alcoholic" sparkling wine. He would have preferred real wine, but at this party there were apparently some tight-wads that belonged in the government, and they didn't want to associate with barely-underage drinking. It was yet another party that his mother had forced him to go to since he was still stick under her thumb and one he hoped would be over soon and he was stuck wearing another monkey-suit. Or at least he could find a place to read or fall asleep until the darn party was over. They were taking forever on the food, and for some reason at these parties they always let one only eat a granola-bar amount of food. At least he had eaten before he came. He looked around the place filled with all sorts of stuffy upper crust rich people whom he didn't care to associate at all with, and was going to go with the "ignore them" route until he spotted a bright red-head. The hair was what caught his attention first, but the second was the attitude coming from the female. She looked like she was having fun, but her attitude screamed "I'm here against my will". Jacques couldn't help but smirk and make his way over to her, only talking to her when the others that were around her had left. "So..." He started, trying not to startle the woman. "Great party am I right?" He made sure to pour all of his sarcasm into that sentence. At least if he was bored, he might have found someone to be bored/hang out with.

Alexandra Pepper was not the type of woman to tolerate the sort of rank and file rich society her mother and father relished. Sometimes, she even wanted to just change her name, but she really did kind of enjoy exploiting being a Pepper to get away with things sometimes. Maybe it was the fact even now she was stuck living with her mother "because good girls don't LIVE alone" at her age (she protested every time that she had two cats, but apparently, Calypso Pepper was not a woman easily swayed), and her mother insisted she meet the best and brightest. Which tonight meant enduring an idiotic party, with idiot rich men and women and their idiot children, all the time feeling like a peice of meat under scrutiny -- was she USDA Choice or Prime? It was stupid, and as polite as the redhead could be, she had decidedly no interest in being there -- especially not with nittering twits trying to small talk their way into her evening gown (with no pockets,, a true affront to her darling Broderick), and once the crowd was off on the next fine selection that seemed to have far less brains, the redhead huffed, sipping some sparkling cider like it was more of a beer, and seemed to relax when a voice greeted her. She'd probably have met Jacques with the false cheer and pleasantries, but his toner indicated he had over two braincells rubbing together in his skull in her mind, and a wash of hope came over hr. Altready she just wanted to see some divbinity bless this one. "Why yes!" Alexandra drawled, tone equally matching his sarcasm. "Especially half the oh so intelligent conversation." Silence, the redhead letting it soak in, down to the dripping, mirthless sarcasm and biting resentment being present, before she sighed, motioning. "So, what gotyou suckered intothis idiot show?"

"My mother. She... likes showing me off." It was true, that's what he was mainly there for after all. He was her child and he was a thing. And she wanted to make sure that everyone saw him. He wasn't sure if it was her being selfish or just wishing his father was still there and he reminded her of him. Either way though, he would have preferred for her to just take a picture of him to show to others instead of dragging him or forcing him to go to these boring soirees. "You though? I'm sure you were forced here too. I mean, I certainly don't understand why anyone would go to these willingly." He mused, taking a quick look around the room again. When he looked back at her he held out his hand for a shake. "Jacques Lécuyer, though you can just call me Jack if you wish. It's a bit easier to say." He would rather someone say his nickname than try and fail to pronounce his real name correctly. But if they were able to do it, his respect for them would go up.

Alex nodded understandingly as Jack spoke, eternally grateful he had the sense to realize the whole party was, well, stupid, and shook his hand firmly. "Alexandra Pepper. Alex, to anyone with more sense than my parents or half the people here it seems." The young woman motioned leisurely, before frowning as she worked out how to best respond to the rest. Finally, she decided on fact and made a face a bit. "My mother too." She spat the words with revulsion. "Because I am a lady she claims, and honestly believes that I need to land some rich idiot and make him take my name because I'm the elder sister and must carry on the family name." It was said with a flourish of the hand, and a dramatic air, exxagerating the drama before the disgruntled expression deepened as she sipped her beverage, slowly, with a distinct, disdainful loud slurp clearly intended to annoy the more stuffy party goers. "I think my mother says these are networking opportunities or some stupid nonsense, buuut I don't care for it myself. I'd be home with my cats if my mother hadn't started off on a tirade again." Alex motioned at the party with exasperation, looking to Jack. ?"I mean, this is bullocks, right?? I'm not nuts and this is all just some look at me peacock show, right?" Alex then sighed, and crossed her arm across her chest, the hand holding a glass swirling the contents slowly, a contemplative expression in the green eyes sizing each one of the others up methodically. "Man this. I'd love to drop the real world opn these morons here and now really. But nooo, there's offiiiiicials and important peeeeoooople. So how do you usually survive these Jack? Ever smuggle a pet in?"

"Alex." Versailles repeated, making sure he remembered the name. Often he would make sure that the forgot the anyone's name from here as soon as he heard it, not really care about any consequences that may have come from it. But he had managed to get away with it so far. He couldn't keep a smile off his face at her complaint though. "Well, Pepper is an interesting last name, but I doubt that any of the rich guys here would want to change their last name. Sounds like your mom is giving you an impossible task." At least his mother wasn't forcing him to get married. She would have been happy for him to be dating at all. Probably so she could just gossip about it since she didn't really care about his happiness. Irritation flashed on his face for a bit before he relaxed again. Soon. Soon he would be away from all of this. Going to DCU would help. He nodded, agreeing with the rest of her complaints too. "I don't have any pets but I would love to get one just to have an excuse to get away from these things. 'Oh no, I'd love to stay, but Charlemagne needs me back at the house for some walks!' Though, they would probably just suggest hiring someone to do it instead." He shrugged his shoulders. "Honestly I think it's ridiculous. One shouldn't be dragged to these parties just to socialize with these... people." He believed that work and personal life should be separated. "What I really don't understand is why they try to make these parties as boring as possible. They could actually try to do some fun things so that one might look forward to going, but instead make sure that you can barely eat anything while you stand around because there are maybe 5 chairs in the entire room, and have to make ridiculous small talk for hours." More than once he had to tell himself that trying to drown in the punch bowl would be very hard to do. "Have you ever smuggled a pet in? I would love to see someone trying to get some sort of lizard or reptile in here. The screams would be quite entertaining." He didn't find any animals disgusting. They all had their purpose. Other people didn't seem to care though.

"My mother bullied my father into it. Knowing herm, she'll harrass someone I';m trying to date into it. Woman is nuts." Alex rolled her eyes in disdain, looking away from the pale maned woman pointedly to focus on her conversation. Her mother's presence was no filter either, room or not as Alex chuckled. "There's probably some real sweet lizards outside, the real question is, should we punish the lizards for this horsepucky?" OK, she was trying not to swear, but Alex was thinking now, humming. "Iknow last time I snuck my cats in my purse. That's why I don't have one tonight. Ugh, I'm an adult, that nutjob thinks Ineed to act her age. Triuthfully I only bother with that house for the hope of teaching my kid sister NOT to be like mom." Then she motioned. "I could spike the punch, probably, though."

Jacques was starting to appreciate his mother just a bit more. Sure she was neglectful and didn't really care about him unless it was something to talk about, but at least she wasn't trying to force him to do anything like that. Except go to these stupid parties. "I don't think the lizards did anything to deserve being in a party like this." He said, now wishing that there was somewhere he could go and hide or perhaps take a nap until this was all over. He didn't question Alex and taking a cat into a purse. He wondered why one would choose a cat though. Was the cat small? The purse large? Was it just a kitten? And what could you do with it anyway at a party like this other than setting it loose? Though doing that would probably harm the cat more than provide entertainment. He shrugged his shoulders. "You can if you want. Though just warn me so I know to stay away from it. I like to know how much alcohol is in something that I'm drinking." He didn't trust others pouring drinks for him. He didn't have anything to worry about, but it was one of his 'quirks' that he just couldn't get rid of. Perhaps it was because his mom had given him "safe" drinks too many times in his childhood that had turned out to be alcoholic. He was surprised he hadn't become one yet. "I just want to find a way out of here though. I'd rather go outside and sit on a cold stone bench than be here."

"Well, of course, there." Alex noted. "UIt's these other people we'd be getting blitzed. That's how you make these fun. You stir the pot." Alex ecplained, a slow, feral grin forming on her face. It was clear this also kept her from risking some of the sons of whatever off her, and the red head tapped her chin. "Not to mention I hear the dear senator likes to pretend he's a Kennedy if he's had too many, sso if we booze bombed then made an excuse to go -- I don't know, maybe I can fudge something about worrying about my cat with the kitten or the babysitter called about my baby sister or something -- and letthe old stodgers have their drunk fun..." A low hum, the female contemplative as she stiudied the room, scanning for oppotunities. "My logic is, if I have to suffer, they should suffer for offending me, you see."

"Glad I won't be your target then." Jacques mused as he took another sip of his drink. Honestly, they may as well have had soda. Or water. Water would have been nice. Or at least healthier. "But if it does get too crazy, I'll be making my way out of here. I don't want to be caught in the middle of all of this and be stuck in what used to be boringcity but turned into crazytown." And it was true, he would be taking something back to his home if need be. "But I totally support you in spiking whatever it is that you need to. I can try to make a distraction if you want. Or at least get the attention of whoever is guarding the punch."Still, I wish we didn't have to do such things." He would much rather be home and resting or something. "If that doesn't work out though, we can try to find some room to spend the rest of the party in hiding from our parents. I'm sure we can find somewhere. And if we can't I'm sure I can pick the lock somehow." Sure, he wasn't an expert, but there had been some desperate times when he needed to get into a room and he wasn't able to.

Alex nodded, listening attentively. "Well unless I find something else, I'd ned to find where the liquor is. Probably want something fruity to blend in." The red head then paused, blinking. "Wait, you can pick locks?" And she lit up, genuinely impressed. "Hot damn that's useful. I have no idea how to do that. Most of my skills involve.. urm... The fur fandom or burning things. Incense things." She coughed awkwardly then, then motioned. "Lock picking is way useful though, expert or not." A thoughtful pause, then. ".....Hiding does sound good though. Don't blame you if it gets crazy. Though, weouldn't hiding spur some sort of gossip?" She motioned. "Because people might misconstrue what we're doing."

"Some locks. I can't pick all of them." It was something he didn't like to admit, but he had learned it from having to go through his mother's things a few times. He never went in her clothing drawer, but at times she would lose things or forget where she put them, and he would have to tell her where they were. She would insist they weren't there, and he would go and retrieve them out of the locked storage areas to give to her, which she would then claim that he had been wrong about where he had found the item. It was exhausting really. It just meant more fights with her. "I've found that they don't even notice that you're gone most of the time. I do agree though that it would create gossip if we were not found. We could be in two different rooms, on the opposite sides of this place, and they would still think we were getting together. Unfortunately, instead of actually doing something to make their lives more interesting, they decide to create rumors to fill the void as it were." He made a disgusted face. "Though if they were to be told that, they would vehemently deny all of it and say they led very fulfilling lives."It was disgusting really. They wasted away their lives, proclaiming to be doing something with it, when in reality they either wasted it or made sure to make the lives of others worse. Sure, they would brag about donating to charities, but oftentimes those charities were their own that they set up, or a fake one so that they could still keep their money.

"Depends on the rich ijjit. The ones who watch out are the quiet ones." Alex affirmed, eyes narrowing at the crowd before she fished some black sunglass-spectacles out, neatly putting them on. It was plainly a stylistic choice -- unless looked through they offered no light protection, and thew red head hummed, looking around. "It's a matter of sneaking off or not... Pick a door open or just bugger off...." Then she made a face. "Screw it, wanna check out? I know a few places for the early twenties crowd and we can probably get realclothes on the way." She waved dryly. "I'll just let my mother blow up later. I'm over 18, what's she going to do, loise face and chuxk mew out? Horror."

"Unfortunately for me, I don't have sunglasses." Jacques said, smirking at the girl. He was joking with her, mostly. He didn't really care if he was seen leaving or not. He nodded his head and held his hand out to the side, indicating that she should be the one to go first. "Ladies first. Or should I say, 'lead the way'? You might know this place better than I do. But if this is the first time for both of us, then it should be a bit more exciting exploring the place rather than listening to the useless chatter that's going on around us right now." He said, sneering a bit at the crowd as he took a look at them. These parties were so useless and disgusting. It would be much better to make actual connections rather than pointless blathering.

"Either or, les' go." Alex motioned politely, and walked out, amused. Oh, she was gong to hear it, but who csared? "Exploring is also good. Anything but one more fake laugh about.... Tennis." Or vacations in expensive places. UGH.

Jacques followed after her. He had no idea where she was wanting to go really, but anything was better than the inane chatter that he had to listen to at that "party". He often wondered why they called it that since it never seemed to be doing much of anything, it was more a "gathering" than a party. "As much as I like Tennis, you can only talk about it so much. Why they don't all actually do something interesting with their money is beyond me. They have enough to try out and have several and even expensive hobbies, and yet here we are." He sighed and once again getting a twinge in his chest that was telling him how much he hated the wastefulness of all of this. NovaCracker Sorry for taking so long to reply! sweatdrop
