Abigail always felt at home alone in their mountainous get away. Separated from the world and it's negativity as long as they were here studying the stars at their observatory. It was beautiful up here, calming. The city bellow could not compare to the tranquility the stars provided. Despite that they could not stay in their tower indefinitely, but only was it out of necessity did they ever come down to the city for supplies thanks to a portal that was built into the facility.
On the grant money provided by the University she worked under Abigail was able to purchase months of supplies. In return for her services the company provided them the solitude they craved from the havoc that was living bellow in a well populated area. They were paid handsomely for it too. It was a good deal. Or so it was until new administration wanted to send a partner to work along side them. An assistant. Worried that cabin fever would take hold of them.
"Why can't people understand that I'm genuinely happy on my own. That I prefer to be by myself. If I would have succumbed to cabin fever I would have done so years ago now. Why do they suddenly feel the need to provide me company now." Abigail thought to themselves loudly as they walked through one of the few stores they had to stop at for supplies for the following months.
"If they feel as though I need company at least let me choose who or what that is, and not just some random intern that will get in the way of my work. I suppose a familiar wouldn't be the kind of companionship they're looking for me to have though..." Abigail pondered this for a moment before continuing to absentmindedly babble to themselves on their way to the general store. "I can just imagine this is the head office scientist's way of hooking me up with someone. A joke. I know how I come off to them. Prude and arrogant. A spinster. I don't really mind how they view me, but now it's starting to get in the way of my privacy and harmony." Abigail's thoughts ran rampant as their body auto piloted picking through the shelves for supplies.
"Perhaps, maybe. I mean it's not unheard of to bring family on secluded jobs such as this. What if I imbue? A child of my own is better than some stranger. Better company certainly and bound to grow up with better sense living up there with me than growing up in the city. I might need to take a break for it, but I don't use my vacation days anyways."
She sighed taking a break from scanning the shelves for the best deal to truly consider the thought. "It would be noisy at first and time consuming and it will come with it's own challenges, but better my own blood than some stranger. I'll have to send them a message and request this option instead, but this might not be such a bad idea after all."
