Shuffling into the kitchen, planning to make breakfast for them both, Alexandre’s socked feet shuffled across the wooden floor. Opening the fridge he took his time, piling his arms with items, he closed the door with his hip and went to deposit everything onto the kitchen counter...and went back to the fridge. There were more things he needed, and was getting, from the fridge in order to make breakfast. It wasn’t the usual simple breakfast, it was a special day and he was going to treat it as such.
At some point in the day he was also expecting a special delivery of plants. He’d ordered several for the greenhouse and he was hoping they would arrive early, though not till after breakfast, so he could get them set up and continue with his day.
Tapping a socked foot on the floor he went about starting breakfast, and feeding the dogs when they arrived in the kitchen looking for their own food.
Aiden stirred at the sound of dog’s nails prancing across the hard wood floors downstairs. He rolled over to drape his arm over Alex only to be surprised by the absence of a warm body for him to pull in close and snuggle into.
“Crap…” He covered his face with one hand and let out a displeased groan. The plan was to wake up and cook him breakfast, not the other way around. If it wasn’t that he was so exhausted from powering up the night before then perhaps he would have been able to catch his boyfriend before he could sneak off downstairs.
With a sigh Aiden tossed the covers off and rolled out of bed wearing nothing but a pair of sleeping pants. Thanks to the wild weather, and all the snow, their fireplace had essentially been going non stop for awhile there with intermittent HVAC usage when they were blessed with power. Last night was no different; and since heat rises, it meant that their room was really toasty - to an almost uncomfortable degree.
They had been together for nearly four years, and in that time he had learned which floorboards to avoid if he wanted to be sneaky. Sometimes even their dogs didn’t notice him until he was close enough to gently tug on their tails.
While Alexandre’s head was ducked into the fridge Aiden took the opportunity to slide in behind him and wrap his toned arms around his boyfriends waist and pull him back. “Good morning,” He hummed. With a smile on his face he buried his nose in Alex’s ashen blonde hair and gave him a kiss on his temple.
Jerking at the sudden presence behind him, and arms snaking their way about him, he nearly smacked his head the top of the fridge as he straightened himself. “Morning. Did I wake you?” He’d hoped the other might sleep for a bit longer, until his surprise was closer to completion, not that he was upset by this - not at all.
Turning, slowly, the ashen blond leaned up to press his lips to the others in a gentle kiss. “I hope you had a good sleep.” He knew he had, their bedroom was nice and warm when compared to how cold it was outside. Using the fireplace was a lot better than the heat they paid for, though they did pay a fair amount for firewood, it left a pleasant smell in the house as well. He was willing to pay for it, well worth it in his opinion.
“Since you’re up do you want to help me with breakfast?” Another brush of lips against Aiden’s before he made to slip out of Aiden’s hold, so he could empty his arms of their burden, before he took a moment to lean against the counter top and look over his partner. “I think making breakfast together would be nice...you can help me.” Or just stand behind him and lend him his body heat, either or were acceptable. He also might just want to cuddle while making breakfast. If anyone, especially those who didn’t know him well, from the negaverse saw him now...well he was certain their reactions would be interesting. The small, because he really wasn’t tall, General all domestic and cuddly. Oh well, he was happy with this - with Aiden.
“Hmm, what do you plan on making?” Aiden turned to look over his shoulder at the ingredients that had already been pulled out. It all seemed kind of random and, in all honesty, made him think that Alex was simply cleaning out the fridge.
“I was sort of going with the little bit of everything idea.” He’d gone out yesterday to do the grocery shopping for this all, so he knew he had everything he’d need. The trip last night to the grocery store had been pleasant, mostly silent, and productive. “I was thinking fresh fruit on baked french toast, scones made here, bacon, eggs, hash browns, and a I was going to do toast with a homemade jam for it.” A little over the top perhaps, some might say it was, but he didn’t think it was - not for Aiden.
“Some veggies to go with the eggs, of course.” To keep it healthy, well sort of, he knew it was a bit of a heavy meal idea so the fruit was there to break it up a bit. He also figured on just a simple bowl of fresh fruit, milk, and some sort of granola or something similar. He had options - lots of options.
“It’s not too much you think?” He could, if Aiden thought so, cut back on some things. “I was going to start on the baked french toast first.” And go from there, ending with the eggs likely.
“Why don’t we start there, then see how hungry we are after we finish eating that first?” He suggested in a way to circumvent having to answer Alex’s question directly. For all he had planned, his boyfriend was more of a dainty eater than he was. It did, however, depend on his mood it seemed. There had been a few evenings where Alexandre had managed to eat even more than Aiden did; perhaps this was a similar case?
“While I’ll eat any leftovers, I think your eyes might be a bit bigger than your stomach.” Aiden teased. He leaned his head forward then and playfully nibbled on Alex’s ear.
“Maybe, it wouldn’t be the first time you know.” There had been enough times he’d made, or ordered, more food than he could manage. He had a healthy appetite, he was at a good weight, it was just that he didn’t eat as much as other people and he wasn’t as active as Aiden seemed to be. Despite his activities as a General he still didn’t seem to consume as many calories as his partner did.
“So what first? Baked french toast with fresh fruits..and what else?” Because that wouldn’t be enough for Aiden, and he knew that. So they’d have to make something else.
“Bacon,” he quickly suggested. “Bacon or sausage, whichever is thawed.” They needed something more savory to balance out all the sweets they were about to eat. With so much sugar, Aiden needed meat.
While he would have preferred to suggest that Alexandre go upstairs to take a shower or get comfortable on the couch while he cooked breakfast. Aiden had a feeling his partner would prefer to make the meal with him rather than be served today. So he instead kept the suggestion to himself, gave Alex a kiss on the neck before letting him go, then rummaged through the refrigerator to get a few eggs and milk to make the base for the french toast.
“The bacon is thawed...since I was planning to make that anyway. The sausage is in the freezer good and frozen.” It was a rather sweet breakfast, and not something he’d normally ever do, but it was something of a special day - right? Plus he figured he had enough things that weren’t too sweet. Mentally shrugging he was glad to have Aiden helping him, any time spent together was good.
“I was going to bring this up to the bedroom….but since you’re up.” Not something he’d normally ever do - food in bed. “Maybe the living room? It’s more comfortable than the kitchen.” Or the dining room. The chairs were nice, they really were, but he wanted comfort right now and the couches were much nicer. “We could bring the cushions onto the floor so we don’t have to bend over to reach the coffee table.”
“Your wish is my command.” Aiden winked.
For as strained as their relationship had been as of late he made a conscious effort to try and set aside the doubts and make today about Alexandre. Perhaps in doing so they would be able to repair the fractured trust that opened a rift between them over a year ago.
In truth, he had hoped that by ignoring his duties as a Page of Mercury the secrets and lies between them would go away and they could go back to focusing on mending their relationship. But Alex’s late nights where he came home with multiple bruises on his body, and meetings held at their house with a group of people that Aiden knew next to nothing about, assuming he was aware of the meeting at all, left a bitter taste in his mouth.
But today was not about him or his feelings, it was Alex’s birthday and he intended to make today as special as he could. “Why don’t you get the living room set up and I will get started cooking the bacon while the griddle heats up?”
Laughing the ashen blond shook his head at his partner, a smile lighting his features. “If you want. You know I have the bad habit of always getting splattered with grease when cooking bacon.” He really didn’t get it but anything dealing with oil, or fat, got him splattered while cooking. He didn’t mind though, normally he just ignored it, in favor of cooking and making something for everyone to eat.
He really did love his partner, Aiden was special in some way he couldn’t put his finger on, and he often felt himself lucky that the other dealt with him. Sometimes though he wished, almost begged, for the other to ask about injuries he came home with. He wished he could explain and tell him. He just...couldn’t. He didn’t want to involve him, even though he had been asked about it before. He just couldn’t - he was too precious.
And Aiden was proving it again, as he seemed to do rather often. “Mmm, I’ll go get the living room ready.” Already he was moving in to steal on more kiss before he’d head to the living room to get things ready. “Candles as well?” He questioned, smiling even more as he nodded his head to the others question.
“If you’d like. I’m sure you have at least a dozen that haven’t been opened yet.” And that was just the non-holiday set. It was something that had definitely taken quite a bit to get use to but in the end, it was probably a good thing especially in a house with three grown men and two dogs.
Laughing he nodded his head. “More than a dozen.” He kept them all tucked away, neatly, in a dresser that he used just for his candles and holders, tops, and other things. He might have a slight obsession with candles, and what came with them, but he wasn’t going to let it take over and make a mess of his home.
“I’ll pick something nice.” Kiss stolen from Aiden the blond headed off to make the living room comfortable for them both. Turning he headed out of the kitchen and up to their room in order to find a candle.
