Demanthra was outside, giving her golden queen a good oiling.
"It is such a beautiful day, I wonder if R'yn is still busy with paperwork,"she mused to her dragon. She knew he was almost always busy with some kind of Weyr work. She smiled, she loved how much he helped everyone. They both did, really, who would have ever known it would happen.
I am sure both of them will be able to join us soon. If they don't, I will be sure they know we want their presence,Jaseth assured, curling her tail around her rider protectively.

Paperwork could wait, R’yn decided. Nothing else seemed to and while he would probably have more paperwork stacked on tomorrow, it would be worth it. Since Impressing, he’d had precious little time to spend doing nothing. He wanted to do something with Demanthra.
When Gereth had flown Jaseth, he’d been under the impression that the Weyrleader could do whatever he liked. He’d quickly found that wasn’t the case. He spent time with Demanthra, sure—but it was work. He signed one last paper and set his pen down. “Gereth, can you ask Jaseth where they are?” He asked, looking up.
Jaseth, Mine wishes to join yours. Can you— Ah, there she was. You’re glowing today.

Jaseth heard Gereth's voice and sent a wave of warmth in his direction. When he complimented, she practically purred at the words. Well, she didn't know what he had been planning to say before it, but it didn't matter right now. She passed on to her rider of the bronze's words and got the reply back.
Mine says to tell him he is more than welcome to join us. She actually was thinking of him before you reached out. And thank you, I am glad you noticed,Jaseth responded brightly.

R'yn didn't need told twice. Once he was assured that he was welcome, he rushed to fetch his riding gear and prepare Gereth for flight. In the air, the stresses of the paperwork at his desk left him.
We come, Gereth called. Mine looks rumpled. But I am as handsome as ever, so will you swim with me?

I am sure Mine will not mind what he looks like. She knows he has been hard at work making sure the Weyr runs smoothly. And I do not doubt you look stunning, my dearest bronze. I would love to go for a swim with you,Jaseth answered. She made sure her rider knew the pair was on the way.

Don't let yours tell him that. Mine needs to be encouraged to make himself neater. He represents the entire Weyr wherever he goes. Maybe if she criticizes him more... He does not enjoy criticism. Gereth knew that his rider tended to ignore his dragon's critical eye, but maybe he wouldn't from his mate.
I always make an effort to look my best, the bronze boasted. He landed close to Jaseth and lowered himself to allow R'yn down.

Yes, I know he represents the Weyr, but you also know that Mine will say what he does is more important than what he looks like. It is the way she is. As for getting on his case about it, I am not sure if she would, as long as he was happy. Now, as for you, I know how very well you keep yourself looking good. You never fail to disappoint,Jaseth assured. She made sure she made room for the bronze pair as they descended.

Yours is biased. Others will take his appearance into account and they will think he is not able to perform his duties successfully. He cannot go around the Weyr looking like a drunken harper. But the bronze was distracted by the gold's compliment. Of course he always looked his best. He was pleased! I am glad. I would hate to disappoint my queen.

Or they might think he looks that way because he is putting so much energy into caring for the Weyr. However, I do agree, Mine is biased when it comes to your's. There is very little you can do to disappoint me, my shining one,Jaseth beamed.

That would be the preferred thought, the bronze rumbled in agreement. Would people see things that way, though? He couldn't be sure. Humans were different than dragons. Mine is biased to yours as well. He says I am biased to you, but everything I observe about you is true. You are the gold that shines brightest on all Pern. He leaned forward to brush his snout against her soft hide.
"She's glowing," R'yn said, smiling at his mate.

Yes, it would and anyone who would think differently, might need to look again. And you are biased, but I do not mind one bit. You give me so much amazing attention and say just wonderful things,Jaseth responded. She nuzzled him back gently, full of purple in her eyes as she did.
"That is what I was definitely going for. Though, she is starting to get a little..proddy,"Demanthra admitted.

Mine does work hard. Sometimes I think he works too hard. That is when I make yours help him. He forgets how much help he has here. Oh, was he biased? But everything he observed about his queen was true; she was a shining example of what all dragons ought to strive to be. She was beautiful, intelligent, --the bronze paused in his thoughts.
Will you be rising soon, my love?
"I thought so. Hopefully she stays on the ground long enough for Gereth to be ready, this time." He remembered his young bronze, just out of weyrlinghood, flailing after his mate. It'd surprised him when he caught her, but then the dragons seemed to love each other. Just as their riders did.

I cannot argue that your's does seem to work himself pretty hard. I do wish he remembered Demanthra and others are there to help. As in answer to your question, well, let's just say Mine oiling me can only make me glow so much,Jaseth smiled, giving a soft nod of her head.
"Well, we both know he is the one she really wants to catch her. So I am sure she will, though he did manage fine last time. At least he is better prepared than he was then,"Demanthra pointed out.

"He is definitely more prepared," R'yn agreed. "I think he'd beat himself up if he lost... He's head over tail for her, you know."
