Notes for playing Primary Motivation: Family and Identity, Minds vs Things. Wren should also have a bit to say on Legacy- what remains? What have people done? Driven by avoidance. At least initially, Wren does not seek anything except to avoid undesirable outcomes. He recognizes his family is wealthy and just plans to live off that. As long as things don’t get in the way of him doing whatever he wants, whenever he wants, he’s content to push people away.
Character development gives him reasons to be understanding, nurturing, and manipulative for good. LAZY > DISCIPLINED MISTRUSTING > UNDERSTANDING. Broken by realizing he actually cares
~Manipulative -- Comes from laziness. If it affects him personally, he doesn't trust people enough to manipulate them. - Small lies. - Nudges. "I thought that's what you wanted?" Is his favorite phrase. - Doesn't mind taking the blame or not getting credit if it gets what he wants accomplished done. - Detatched-- he'll do it to amuse himself. Push buttons, or better yet, lure others into pushing them. Watch reactions. But maybe offer some condolence afterwards.
~Tinker-- Maker movement, DiY, modding, fixit. Despite his hate for waste, Wren is not a hoarder. He doesn’t like buying things for one-use, and if he has to, donates it once used.
~Nurturing?-- At his core, Wren wants to fix things. He sees a terrible tragedy in the innocent but broken. ~Critical--Wren will find something wrong to snark about. Both are goal and end driven, but August is more open and accepting and allows for other people to have their own truths as long as it doesn’t influence him and his. Wren is constantly sarcastic, regardless of his beliefs.Food snob.
Mannerisms ~Slouches unless told otherwise or around his mom. ~

Exam Thread Advanced Flying: (year 2,3) Very Proficient. Wren requested to add Advanced Flying as a second year when he saw how genuinely passionate the Slytherin Quidditch team was. While he was always a better strategist than player, Wren refused to be the weakest link and was even promoted to vice captain and later captain. He always took remarkable care of his broom, which was, of course, the best money could buy in 2047.
Legilimency/ Occlumency: (year 6,7) Advanced. Wren had been fascinated by legilimens since his first year and read avidly on the theory and practice. By sixth year he had read every text on the subject he could find and had a few failed attempts in trying to use it. He took the class very seriously, frequently practicing with his friend Eion outside of class. While already proficient, he took the class again in seventh year to have a space to practice, further honing his abilities and learning to use it more subtly. In the years since, he has only continued to hone his ability with legilimens, becoming more subtle and more accurate in his reading.
Apparition: (year 7) Proficient.
Care of Magical Creatures: (year 3) Wren took the class initially instead of Study of Ancient Runes because he liked his cat and grandfather's augurey. He later found the applications for wandlore fascinating, but was drawn to Runes more for the crafting purposes.
DREAM JOB not working. Who wants to work? But making wands/ potioneering sounds pretty cool. CURRENT OCCUPATION Apprentice Wandmaker at Ollivander's
xxx✦PERSONALITY✧xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
CRAFTYIn both senses of the word-- Wren has always liked tinkering with things. From model blocks to muggle electronics, he has a fascination for the inner workings of things-- machines, magic, minds. When it comes to machines and magic, he studies, rebuilds and designs; when it comes to minds, he'll push them one way or another, amusing himself with how people react. His creative ideas and schemes though, often remain unenacted--he doesn't trust other people with correctly bringing his vision of things to fruition.
WRY Wren tends to be very sarcastic with his comments and can be very critical when he's trying to get someone off his back. He doesn’t mince words or offer false promises though, and hates it when people try to hide their meanings behind fake kindness. He does though, genuinely appreciate a good joke or amusing scenarios.
UNDERSTANDINGWith greater understanding of how people think, what they're good at, and why they lie from his friends and legilimency, Wren's come to more sympathetic understandings of human nature and seeks more to understand and nurture. This doesn't stop him from being rude or sarcastic, but it does change his perspective and motivations.
DETAILEDWren fancies himself a connoisseur of good food and generally more discerning than the average person. In the food case, he’s actually just picky. But he does direct his attention to detail to his own work and pays careful attention around him. He'll also always find something to be critical about.
LAZY If unprompted, Wren would always be doing his own thing, which sometimes is working hard on some restorative art or engineering project, sometimes just sitting there judging people. He had a lot of freedom in most of his childhood and is adverse to anything that interferes with his preferred routines. He is quite content to puzzle things through and do his assigned work, but generally cannot be bothered to do anything he doesn't see as meaningful or interesting. In these cases, Wren has zero qualms with manipulating or convincing other people to do things for him--as long as they aren't incompetent.
PRACTICAL Wren doesn't waste time with what things should or might be. There is what is, and what he can do about it--or really, what he can convince other people to do about it--and there's little purpose in considering all the things that aren't. Things will never be perfect. He'll make it work.
✦✧HOBBIES ■ Craft projects-- wands, puzzle boxes, little enchanted objects, repairing sentimental objects. ■ Reading-- usually potions and wandlore research ■ Practicing legilimency on people
✧DISLIKES ■ Waste ■ Rules. And traditions, which are basically rules someone made up for the sake of having more rules. ■ Parties. Especially the philanthropic ones. It's enough that he has to dress up in his own house, but watching people crone over parasites or lost causes is downright embarrassing. ■ When people mess up the gardening or cooking. ■ Hot weather
✦STRENGTHS ■ Observant ■ When he puts his mind to something, Wren can be quite brilliant.
✧WEAKNESSES ■ Often too lazy to actually go do things, such as clarifying himself. ■ For someone who strives to be so well informed, Wren's hesitation to act recklessly has cost him dearly before.
✦DREAMS ■ Live a life of luxury, sleep all day, maybe get a personal chef. ■ Maybe invent a cool thing or spell. ■ Buy Le Petite Fantaisie.
✧FEARS ■ Starving ■ Being mind-controlled ■ Unconscious undead like zombies or inferi. Ghosts or vampires though, are fine. ■ Aside from major survivor's guilt over his uselessness, he fears this will happen again and he'll be useless again.
xxx✦BACKSTORY✧xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ✦✧EARLY CHILDHOOD Wren attended a small public school in Winchester proper for a while, but didn’t make many friends because most of the other kids thought he was mean and he thought they were all incompetent. His fellow wizard Nimbus Siddall was his closest friend for a while, but their relationship soured when Wren confided in the teacher about the pair's wild speculations about Mrs. Siddall's death. Rumors started when Nim was absent from school, and any of Wren’s efforts to help quell the rumors only made them worse. Finally, a fight broke out between him and this girl Suzie, who Wren was convinced was involved in the rumors. He won the fight and was suspended. His mum pulled him and his little sister, Sparrow II, out of school entirely, convinced that a muggle public school was no place for young wizards.
Wren, at least, felt like he got a lot more out of homeschool: he read more, learned more about magic and got to explore his own interests. Wren spent most of his days reading and studying in libraries: either at the wizarding library his grandpa works at, or in the collections at home. He developed a fondness for tinkering with trinkets both magical and muggle to see how they worked, and a soft spot for repairing things or bringing plants and creatures back to health. While well-meaning, his mum would inadvertently always compare Wren to other children around-- music prodigies, socialites, overachievers--people who seemed to just have their life together better. The constant chastisement was contrasted by her reminder that he was the future heir of their family and that respect came with responsibility. His dad just reminds him to pursue wisdom and knowledge in everything, as per the family motto. Rather than conform to any single set of expectations or opinions, Wren has simply decided to do things as he will. That doesn't stop the suggestions though, which are particularly common after the social events that happen regularly at their estate: Grandpa Anthony hosts muggle community service projects in the main building, his mum loves throwing philanthropic galas to socialize with the wizarding community, and even his ancient great-grandfather invites young wizarding historians to tea and to collaborate. Wren has reluctantly accepted these and will participate as required-- until he takes over anyways.
Upon receiving his Hogwarts letter, his mother started pushing his cousins August or Sonora to tutor him, which Wren disdained. One of his hideout places was Ursula Payne's shady fortune teller shop in the back alleys of Winchester, and during one of his visits he met and befriended her granddaughter, Moira Payne. That day an orange tabby also decided to follow him home and was promptly named and adopted by Sparrow. Initially furious, his mother seems to have taken a shine to the new pet. His other haunt was his Aunt Verine's potioneering office, and so long as he checked the stock and kept her updated, she let him read in peace.
✦✧SCHOOL YEARS
✦FIRST YEAR Wren spent much of his first year simply relishing in his newfound freedom. He was pleased to be put in the same house as Moira and As, and less pleased that that was the same house as his cousin August. Although he occasionally skipped class to laze around, Wren for the most part paid attention and did his work. Surprisingly, he took a shine to flying, and didn't mind hanging out with friendly folks from other houses -- if anything he figured they would be amusing friends to keep around.
✧SECOND YEAR While he confirmed Aspen Hill's half-nymph bloodline, Wren was mildly disturbed by some of the elements to it; he didn't use it against her and actually became closer friends with her. Later in the year he was confronted by Aspen's twin sister, Laurel, about it, but seemed to persuade her he had no intention of hurting his new friend or her family. Instead he spent the year reading up on the theory behind mind-reading magic, training not to suck at Quidditch, and occasionally stopping by Cooking Club.
✦THIRD YEAR Wren begrudgingly took six electives as his mother demanded, and was surprised to enjoy most of them. He reprised his role as "Critic Kid" in Cooking club and kept an eye out for Yukon's younger sister Weslyn there. Throughout the year, he was very touched by not only how Yukon treated both his siblings--even the obviously adopted one--but also by how they both obviously respected and adored him. His favorite amusement though, was "The Princess and the Scribe": watching August Li and Rhea Lane dance around a relationship: August was a wreck, which was hilarious, and even more hilarious whenever Wren fed him some slightly-exaggerated report of Rhea "not eating". The show ended at the Valentine's Dance, which Wren attended in a dress, as someone at home had mistakenly sent him a dress instead of dress robes.
Finally, Wren had a very illuminating encounter with Aspen and her aunt Rosalia in the springtime. They were hanging out when Aspen sang to her plants and Wren felt some bit of the nymphic magic he had been so fascinated by. He decided it was terrible. It didn't stomp him from wanting to learn legilimens, but he did think controlling people was a terrible feeling.
His entire family convened in Taiwan for his great-uncle's funeral. There was another baby sibling sucking up all the silence in the house, and between the funeral and Chadwick breaking up with her for the nth time, Sparrow was moping, so Wren took Sparrow to get her hair colored--and heard some interesting conversation along the way--then visited Aspen for a reprieve. After swapping out Care of Magical Creatures for Study of Ancient Runes because he thought it would be better for his enchantment and crafting interests, Wren resigned himself to studying the rest of summer.
✧FOURTH YEAR Wren was very skeptical of being offered the Quidditch vice-captaincy at the beginning of year, but accepted it and continued to try to recruit fresh blood. He was salty at Skip for not making it to tryouts. Late in fall, he and Nimbus found and rescued a litter of orphaned kittens and found homes for all of them among the students of Hogwarts. In the meantime, caring for the kittens put them in more frequent contact, and over the winter, after yet another bickering match, they realized the misunderstanding that had led to their friendship breaking apart seven years ago. They reconciled the first weekend back at Hogwarts. They already shared mutual friends, and hanging out as a group just sort of happened.
✦FIFTH YEAR Wren was extraordinarily amused and annoyed to be appointed prefect--although the prefect's bath mostly made up for patrols and getting to take points away was always a threat he liked having. He had patrol with Laurel occasionally, and found it was a good chance to show that he was genuinely apologetic since second year and always kept the Hill girls' secret. During mid-winter when Aspen wasn't sleeping though, Wren did once use his knowledge of her nymphic bloodline to make her rest.
In winter, he and Nim found themselves in a relationship of sorts--it started with a kiss anyways, and their teasing was more flirtatious than before. After discovering Yukon and Aria had a mutual crush on each other, the four of them discussed the situation, which led to Wren and Aria breaking their betrothal and both couples settling into a sort of relationship after the break. Aside from a night where he pierced his ears with a few friends later, Wren kept plenty busy with Quidditch and studying for OWLs for the rest of the year.
✧SIXTH YEAR meant Wren could finally take Legilimency classes. He had read about it extensively over the years and with some instruction quickly picked it up. He and Eion frequently practiced outside of class, leading to more than a few embarrassing stories spilling out. He also took over the Quidditch captaincy a little early, was offered the Culinary Club leadership, and otherwise stuck to his studying, reading, and friends. He did though, get an opportunity to abuse his prefect privledges when he caught Wes's boyfriend Eden cussing out Angus's brother Rian.
Over the summer he picked up a job as an assistant at Ollivander's, giving him another place to escape to aside from his aunt's potioneering office and Madame Ursula's fortune telling shop.
At the end of the summer, tensions came to a head between Nim and his abusive stepmother, and confrontation led to the deaths of both parents and, more tragically, Aria. Wren and Moira arrived too late, their skills too limited to save her. While Wren did his best to be there for Nimbus and Yukon in the aftermath, he felt extremely guilty knowing about the abuse and not doing more to stop it. Still, he was glad Nim was alive, and entered seventh year bitter but determined.
✦SEVENTH YEAR was mostly spent watching out for Sparrow and Yukon who seemed determined to go through life drunk. Wren got along well with Aspen and Hailey as usual. Nim brought up breaking up once, amidst the self-harm, but after a gentle conversation over Winter Break, they both confessed to loving each other. Most of the rest of the year was spent working on his studies, practicing legilimency, and leading Slytherin Quidditch and Culinary club.
✦✧POST GRADUATION Wren renewed his position at Ollivander's post-graduation, using his other free time to continue dabbling into potions and alchemy work. He was dragged off to learn about his parent's philanthropy work with the Winchester Foundation more often than he liked, but these were expected as part of taking over as the Heir.
At the end of 2054 during his Great-Grandfather's party, Wren was dragging his feet on getting to the party. During that time, the party was infiltrated, much of his family killed, and the estate burned. Sparrow splinched herself reaching him and Wren reached the Estate only in time to pick through the ruins. Suddenly the new Head of the family, Wren wavered between somber sobriety and inappropriate laughter. He moved to Nimbus's flat, adopting Sparrow, Robin, Flick, Phoebe, and Aella as their own. Wren spent the next six months restoring the estate almost single-handedly with magic.
In early summer 2055, he funded Aspen's MagiScouts idea to bring young students together in a day-camp style program. As their lives resettled to a new normal, Wren and Nim finally got engaged. Sparrow conned convinced them into having a proper wedding, and they proceeded to plan one. During this process, they took in a young Ambrose; while later sent to Wool's, Ambrose was formally adopted and welcomed to the family on their wedding day.

Favorites Food Medium-cooked dry-aged steak with garlic butter and pepper paired with chilled apple cider. Sides of sauteed mushrooms, and poke in guacamole. Conclude the meal with key lime pie and hand whipped cream. Drink Chilled grape cider in a crystal glass. Candy Chocolate Frogs, and Chocolate Mood Pudding, a very particular kind of pudding that tastes different depending on mood. Clothes Soft or silky scarves Movie Genre: Documentaries, Psychological horror, detective/ crime thrillers, Comedic parodies. Superheroes/villains: Charles Xavier, Niska Flower Blue Violets. Nim got a bouquet of blue violets with forget-me-nots for Wren on their first not-anniversary and every time he sees that combination now he feels a little more whole. He thinks it would look nicer with some other color speckled in, but the faithfulness and forever of the blue violet make him feel like there are things that can be beautiful for forever.
Typicals Non-uniform outfit loose hooded sweater, jeans Handwriting Short, messy little letters wideset kerning. Barely legible but usually packed in there. Smells like grass and something musty and chemical— from plants, animals, or potions, probably.
Misc Wand Silver lime wood = good for legilimancy and seers. Used to be a status symbol and was outstripped. Auguery tail feather = diviniation, legilimancy. misunderstood nature. Good with weather-based magic and revealing secrets. 12 ½ inches= long, better for larger work. Straight, flattening out to a blade-like point, smooth finish with light swirls on the flat sides of the wand shaft = practical appearance but beautiful in aesthetic. Patronus ?? Amortentia smells like rain and flowers. And the slightly chemical hot-glue smell of his workroom. Boggart is the buffet from Pan’s Labyrinth, complete with the creature with its eyes in its hands-- a feast he cannot partake in and a zombie automation. Turns into...???? Chinese name: Meixin (Rose-heart OR? belief)
Best memories
Watching his grandmother make his wand.
Worst memories
Nim getting upset at him the meeting after he left school.
MISTRUSTFULWren puts up a façade of cold and apathetic that stems from thinking people are either incompetent or in it for themselves. Even though his elders are generous and philanthropic, Wren himself has only observed that people take and take and never give back.

OWLs scores
O.W.L.s Core Astronomy ~ A
Wren did not really care about Astronomy. He didn’t really study for it, and had stopped going to class if he’d read the book and understood things well enough. He walked in knowing he’d scrape an A and was perfectly happy to spend his time reviewing more interesting subjects.
Charms ~ O
Wren had a head start on charms theory, studying it before he arrived at Hogwarts, but his ability in charms was probably best credited to laziness. He would have continued to use charms for everyday things, Underage Magic Trace be damned, if his grandmother hadn’t threatened to take his wand away. Thinking of spells he could be using instead of doing things by hand was at least good for review though! The practical was a breeze, and even though his written answers were concise, they definitely answered the question.
Defense Against the Dark Arts ~ A
Repelling dark creatures was well and good, but Wren much preferred lessons where they discussed how dark magic itself worked and how to defend or repair the damage from them. His work always reflected his interest in the particular subject-- some assignments were thoughtfully researched and articulated, others were the bare minimum of words slapped on the page. His written exam mirrored this, and while he spent a good minute making grossed out noises at the boggart, he did eventually manage to dispel it.
Herbology ~ E
Despite his usual curt demeanor and his general devil-may care attitude, Wren was surprisingly careful with any plants that passed into his care and never let a plant leave him worse for the wear. While he got plenty of practice with his friends Eion and Moira's talent for wilting things, years of leaving the most of the work to natural green thumbs Aspen, Nimbus, and Yukon had left him unaccustomed to doing everything alone. Three years of Herbology club helped, but he was a little pressed on time.
History of Magic ~ A
Wren always put maximum snark into his essays for History, but it did require him to at least know the content. While he enjoyed knowing where things came from, Wren couldn’t actually like history if only because his cousin August liked it. He decided in fourth year he wasn’t going to pursue the subject at the NEWT level and from there did the bare minimum to pass.
Potions ~ O
Perhaps it was spending summers avoiding his parents by going to his potioneer aunt’s place, or his soft spot for making and fixing things, but Wren took to potions with surprising care and pride. It was the only core class he attended every session without fail, and every assignment throughout the years was turned in with obvious, if unintentional, signs of effort and interest. While if in a rush Wren preferred to use magic to prep ingredients, he was remarkably adroit and willing to prepare potions by hand-- there were limitations to magic sometimes, and just as he had found reparo wasn’t the same as reconstructing a book cover by hand, he found using magic to quickly whip up a potion wasn’t quite the same as preparing each step and ingredient by hand. Each potion he ever turned in was done to the best of his ability, and his OWL potions were no exception.
Transfiguration ~ A
Transfiguration was honestly a fascinating subject, and inspired Wren to take Alchemy. But transfiguration was also a lot of work, and a bad habit of skipping the homework the first three years caught up; knowing by fifth year he wouldn’t be able to scrape an E to move onto advanced transfiguration, Wren instead focused his efforts elsewhere. His exam was taken mostly seriously but his hesitation with the kitten on the practical set him just a few points short of the requisite E.
Electives Alchemy~ O
Between his interests in Potions and Transfiguration, Wren took to Alchemy with great fascination. He enjoyed the crafting and transmutation aspects, but by far his favorite part was figuring out solutions to alchemy puzzles. Drafting solutions to alchemy problems soon became the equivalent of walking around fiddling with a puzzle box. He blitzed easily through the written section and had fun with the practical.
Cursebreaking ~ A
Wren was generally more interested in placing enchantments or curses on objects than he was in really breaking them, but knowing how to break them was a start. He did like how many interesting spells they learned from cursebreaking. His exam answers were correct if rushed and under-explained, and his practical was simply and efficiently done. He was kinda bummed he wouldn't be able to continue, but had plenty of other interests to pursue.
Divination ~ O
Wren took Divination so he might have a better idea of how to parse things in legilimency, and because his best friend was a seer. Tarot decks and other forms of divination was pretty much half of his “aesthetic” and Wren demonstrated that the aesthetic was not just for show. While he thought Professor Somerset was a little kooky, he found her lectures easy to understand, and his interest and dedication to the subject definitely showed in the thoroughness of his exam answers.
Healing ~ E
Wren claimed his motivation for taking healing had been learning how to better injure, but a closer friend would have realized it was actually an extension of his soft spot for fixing broken things. As he continued in Healing, Wren found more challenge and entertainment in learning to heal than to hurt. His understanding and actual healing was superb, but his “bedside manner” fluctuated between silent and sarcastic if not downright insulting. He was extraordinarily peeved at points taken off for that, but hey, he wasn’t going to mince words for an exam.
Study of Ancient Runes ~ E
Wren’s interest in crafting magical items led him invariably to Runic Magic, and he joined the class in fourth year. It was a miserable summer and year catching up but he put a solid effort in, knowing it would be useful to his projects. Come fifth year he integrated much better into the class, and found that his diligence paid off. He didn’t care much for translations homework, but always put obvious research in any of the practical work and his effort. The exam was harder than he anticipated, but he was glad to do well enough to continue.
Wandless ~ A
Wren had taken Wandless for the specific purpose of not needing to go through the full range of motion to draw his wand every time he wanted to summon an object to him or turn off a light. He can definitely do that and a few other simple spells, but isn’t about to wander off without his wand and probably isn’t winning any wandless duels.
Wandlore ~ O
Wren’s best memory as a child was watching his grandmother make his wand. It tapped into his quiet passion for fixing and making things, and was the closest thing Wren could find close to enchanting objects. He took wandlore for as much an interest in materials and their magical properties as he did an interest in making wands, and his exam reflected a thorough knowledge of the subject.

NEWTs
CORE Charms ~ E
Wren’s ability with Charms was particularly tied to his laziness-- anything outside of crafting, Quidditch, and divinations that he could do with a spell was done with a spell. This afforded him great practice and familiarity at least, and made the practical a breeze. He did quite well with nonverbal spells, as if the spell didn't even require a word, he was even more inclined to use it.
Defense Against the Dark Arts ~ A
Wren only continued DADA because he couldn’t continue cursebreaking, and he wanted to take something that furthered his understanding of dark arts. He found himself disturbed by some of the material in NEWT level DADA--dementors and unforgivable curses-- and put in the effort to understand these dark arts, if only so he would never be caught off guard by them. He learned quite a lot and this time but with so many other, happier, things to attend to like Quidditch and Culinary Club and friends, his treatment of the subject was inconsistent.
Herbology ~ E
Wren hates actually maintaining a garden, but hates someone messing it up even more. And since the world is full of incompetents, he has to at least know the material. After spending so much time with Aspen, Yukon and Nim, Wren felt almost obligated to give the exam good effort. He had, after all, never let a living creature leave his care worse for the wear, and he wasn’t about to let some plant ruin that record.
Potions ~ O
Wren jumped into NEWTs able to keep up to date on much of the latest in Potions research and always took every opportunity to practice his potions technique on a new project. For the written portion his answers were clear, concise, and precisely written so as not to waste a single sentence, and his practical was neat, efficient, and exactly performed so as not to waste a single movement.
ELECTIVES Alchemy~ O
Alchemy was again treated as a fun puzzle-solving class, which Wren adored. He would gladly spend all day thinking through an interesting alchemy conundrum to come to the simplest effective solutions--it also beat thinking about any real-life drama or grief. His proficiency with potions theory and methodology helped greatly here as well.
Divination ~ E
Wren’s dedication to the aesthetic of divination paid dividends in his study of legilimency already, but he continued to pay attention and put effort into not only performing the divinations but interpreting them correctly. While he was no seer, Wren did quite well in divination and knew enough to know when to turn to a proper seer for additional insight. His exam was mostly flawless, aside from a single fortune where he overlooked a simple interpretation in favor of an overly complicated one. A few minutes after the exam, he realized the more elegant interpretation and was very disappointed, knowing he’d just missed the O.
Healing~ E
With the hurt that had come to Nim and Aria the summer prior, not to mention scraps in Quidditch, Wren found plenty of motivation to study healing well. He did particularly well with complex cases that he thought were interesting, but his refusal--or perhaps inability--to communicate not sarcastically in simple cases hurt his final score. The actual spellwork and potions were were outstanding. Once he was sure it was just his talking, Wren could care less: He wasn’t going to be a healer, and he needed the people he treated to be alive, not unoffended. He treated the exam exactly the same as every other healing class: precisely and deftly cast, callously and acerbically spoken.
Study of Ancient Runes ~ E
Wren disliked the translational side of Runes but had stuck through with it because of Runes’ usefulness in crafting and enchantment. His patience was rewarded when they started studying runic spells and staves and he learned as much as he could. Given his excellence in divination it was ironic that runic divination was not Wren’s strongest suit, but that didn’t deter him from continuing to mess with and practice it. If anything, his effort and familiarity paid off and helped him scrape the E instead of an A.
Wandless Magic ~ A
Wren had considered not continuing Wandless Magic after mastering the everyday charms, but realized in sixth year that the practice sessions were an excellent time to practice wandless legilimency. He paid much more attention after that, and became not only much better at legilimency but at wandless magic. He still wasn’t winning any duels without his wand, but Wren figures he’s better off trying to win a fight with information and strategic manipulation rather than fancy wandwork anyways.
Wandlore~ O
Wandlore was Wren’s closest analogue to fixing, crafting, and building magical trinkets, and if his attention to the detailed maintenance of his broom and wand were not enough evidence, the occasional offer to repair or maintain his friends’ trinkets did not go unnoticed. His experience interning at Ollivander’s the summer before seventh year only confirmed and strengthened his interest in wandcraft, and he returned to NEWT preparations with greater insight as to how to apply all the wandlore they learned, and a clear motivation as to where he was going with wandlore.
