Renee's business was going well, all things considered. She had been able to find the happy medium between having a fun job and gaining profit from him. While not enough profit that she could open up her own storefront, she was beginning to wonder about another aspect of her life. She didn't mind working from her home kitchen, not really, but what she did mind was the emptiness in the kitchen that she'd begun to take a more keen notice of.
Maybe she ought to get a familiar, she pondered one day as she was working on making mint chocolate cupcakes. But she was never too thrilled at the idea of having a familiar. They could never talk back and she preferred face to face interactions, like when her customers came to pick up their cupcakes, or when she delivered them via her horseless carriage.
In a perfect world, she'd have found her soul mate by now and they would've been able to help one another with their baking specialties in her kitchen (because of course, her soul mate had to be a baker!) Then maybe they could have little ones of their own running around! As she mixed up the batter, deep in her daydream, a thought occurred to her.
"I don't really need a soul mate in order to have a little one of my own.." She mused, starting to scoop the batter into the appropriate tray. "Why, I could raise a little one all on my own, I'm sure! They'd be able to talk back, because I could teach them how to talk. Oh, and I'd bake them all sorts of sweets and of course they'd be interested in baking too and-Whoops!" Getting caught up in her excitement, she had a little spill, brown batter sticky on her counter top. Still, the thought nagged at her as she cleaned it. "That's just what I'll do. I'll imbue a stone of my very own and raise my own little baker!" Renee beamed, the mess cleaned and got placed her cupcakes in her oven to cook, imagining the sound of pitter-pattering feet around her.
