Cavansite had been surprised but pleased to receive the note from her senshi. There was a feeling of fierce pride that she felt when she thought of the twins she had brought into all of this. She had saved them, and they had become hers. If only the girl’s brother was as eager but.

She couldn’t control people’s feelings.

A smile twitched onto her face as she stood up from the seat in her office, where she spent most of her time now. Feelings could be controlled quite easily but. That wasn’t something she was going to force on any of her underlings unless their behavior warranted it. And, thus far…it seemed that only Amesite’s had…though she had been far too late to notice it.

At least he was dead instead of a traitor. That was a small comfort, but it was a comfort none the less. He had been such a fool. She could have aided him. She should have been more active in his life, there was so much going on and if she would have just…

Ah. But it was far too late to dwell on such things now. Far, far too late.

Her first lieutenant was nothing more than a corpse somewhere at the bottom of the river, and her poor sister was still suffering. At least…

When had she last spoken to Gale?

Ah well.

That didn’t matter now.

Quietly, Cavansite teleported to the area in the park that ‘Nubi had said she was and when her eyes lit upon the purple and green clad corrupt, she gave what passed for a warm smile. “It’s good to see you. You said that you had some questions that you wanted to ask me?” The general tried to be as warm as she had been before. She tried to reach whatever emotional bond she had started forming with this young woman but…

The creature that still resided in her mind wouldn’t let those feelings be tapped.

And so her warmth was nothing but a façade. “What can I help you with, ‘Nubi?”

'Nubi had been quite excited to hear about the Tournament from a fellow Agent. It was a chance to show off her skills in front of everyone, or well, anyone that cared to come and watch. It hadn't even taken much convincing for her to talk 'Mali into signing up as well. He needed the experience more then she did, or at least she thought he did. After all, she had taken a Senshi's starseed before (even if it had been returned shortly after and hadn't required much skill to obtain).

Still, was she really prepared? It probably wouldn't hurt to go to someone more experience and ask for some advice. Maybe they could give her a bit of an edge against her potential opponents. And the most experienced person she knew was her General of course. She was all to eager to send a message to Cavansite and happy when there was a swift reply. Of course it was swift, her General was the best.

"Always a pleasure to see you, General." 'Nubi gave a polite bow, but was all smiles in Cavansite's presence. 'Mali was always telling her to keep her cool around their peers in the Negaverse, but he wasn't here and this was just her and Cavansite. She saw no need to act all prim and proper around her.

"I signed up for the tournament and was hoping you might have some advice for me. I've been in a few fights, and won, but never anything too serious. And I suspect my fellow agents won't be going easy on me. And I don't plan on going easy on them either." She had been taking self-defense classes for years as well, but those weren't actually fighting lessons. Just simple things to get yourself out of trouble. Not that they had come in handy at all when Landry was in trouble.

The smile brought an almost warmth to the General’s heart and she reached out a hand, softly patting the senshi’s cheek. “Come. Sit with me and we can talk of this tournament. I participated in one a few years ago and made it to the second round, I do hope that you will do the same.”

How long ago had that been? Three years already? She had been a captain…and so full of zeal…it had been quite wonderful.

Walking over to a nearby bench, the General sat down and seemed thoughtful. “Keep alert, and don’t be afraid to hurt them. I am assuming that you’re dragging your mostly unwilling brother into this as well? Even if you are put against him, don’t be afraid to hurt him. There will be medics on site and if something happens, he’ll be patched up.”

She realized that she might have had a bit more liking for ‘Nubi over her brother and…perhaps that wasn’t a bad thing but…

“Don’t go easy on them. You don’t need to. They won’t be going easy on you, that’s for sure. I’ll be there to watch you…I don’t think that I’ll participate this year, but I will go to cheer you on. Perhaps I’ll see if I can pressure some of my other underlings to enter…what fun that would be. It would let me really assess your levels.”

Nubi couldn't help herself, she leaned in to Cavansite touch. Even if Mali were around, she couldn't hide her feelings for her General. People could call them monsters, but she would always think of her General as an Angel who saved them when it looked like the world had turned against them. She nodded and happily followed her over to a nearby bench, settling in closer to her General. So she could hang on her every word.

"Mali was more enthusiastic about the Tournament then I thought. I think he needs to work through some things and fighting some complete strangers is a good way to do that." It hadn't taken much convincing at all really. She was worried they'd have to fight each other at some point. In fact if they both went as far as she hoped, it would definitely come down to that. She hoped he wouldn't go easy on her, she didn't want to go easy on him.

She nodded along as her General gave her advice. No, she hadn't expected anyone to go easy on her. Maybe she should be more reserved against her fellow Agents. She wanted to make friends of them after all, but the Tournament probably wasn't the best place for that. If anything, she should be friendly with the ones that take it seriously.

"Oh, I would love the opportunity to battle my peers, the ones under you that is. I'm sure they're just as amazing as I am." Nubi might have no accomplished much in her time in the Negaverse. Well, not anything she could brag to Cavansite about. But at least she was meeting her quotas, that had to mean something right?

"And, knowing you'll be there to cheer me on, means a lot. I won't back down. I'll stand my ground." She hadn't really experienced real fighting. Even against the Senshi she had fought before, things had ended before she'd even been hit. It would be a new experience, but one she was prepared for.

As the senshi moved closer, Cavansite hesitated a moment before tossing her arm around ‘Nubi’s shoulders, pulling her closer and even took a moment to place a brief kiss on the top of the young woman’s head. “I’m glad to hear that your brother was enthusiastic about something. Other than disliking me, that is.”

There was a genuine feeling of liking this girl that was beginning to grow within the General, and perhaps…it was due to the fact she was so willing to give everything to the Negaverse. Perhaps the creature in her mind would allow this to continue to grow. After all, what better way to keep her subordinates where they belonged than by being nice to them. Supporting them.

Give them a reason to stay, and they will stay. Wasn’t that what Hessonite preached?

She managed a smile and looked out into the night for a long moment. “Mourite is a satisfactory boy. He was another one who I didn’t quite…plan on bringing in. You know I used to plan. My first recruit was carefully chosen for his cunning or…his brains.” Her mood sobered after a moment, and Cavansite looked down. “I think he…was about to make a very bad choice. I think he was about to leave us. The Negaverse that is. He had just gone through a very large emotional drain, first his brother went missing, and then his parents were killed but.”

Her hand squeezed the girl’s shoulder. “…I did what I could. Supported him however I could, but he left me a letter that made it seem like he was going to defect. That he was going to go to the White Moon. Perhaps to forget? It addles your memories, you know. Leaving us. It’s what General Queen Hessonite always says. Why she advocates being close with your underlings. Help make memories that they won’t want to leave behind. Give them a reason to stay.”

The General fell quiet again. “Amesite died a few months ago. In a drunk driving accident. I failed him, but I swear to you, ‘Nubi. I will not fail you. Or your brother. Or Mourite or my other recruits.” Her voice was firm and for a moment, she seemed almost…human, much less than her strong façade normally showed. Fragile and lonely and worried.

The arm around her was a comfort and she gave a content sigh when Cavansite placed a gentle kiss against her head. Her General was by far the best and no one would be able to change her mind. Mali might have his concerns about their place in the Negaverse, but if he only gave their General more of a chance he could be comforted by her as well. He was just so stubborn about....everything.

"Mali has always been a stubborn person. Well, not always. A lot has happened in the last couple of years to make him that way. He keeps everyone at a distance." And lately they had been fighting more, mostly because of Negaverse things. She was trying to smooth them over as best as she could, but somehow she felt like a storm was brewing between the two of them. She only hoped they both made it through okay afterwards.

Things took a more serious turn, Cavansite's mood changed and Nubi looked at her with some concern as she talked about one of her subordinates. This was the first time she had heard that defecting would cause memory loss. She could see how that alone could be appealing to someone who had lost so much. Wanting to forget those things had ever happened, that was one way to get over trauma. It wasn't something she advocated. Though, she had almost walked over that edge when she'd lost her parents. If not for Mali...

"I'm sure you did everything you could for him. People can make some bad decisions that take fate out of their hands." She was assuming Amesite had been the one drinking and driving. He might have had no intention to end his life, just been at a breaking point where things could have gone either way. "I know you'll always be there for us. All of your recruits." She leaned her head on Cavansite's shoulder.

"And we'll always be there for you as well."

She nodded and held the young woman closer still, her fingers playing in the soft blonde hair that framed her face. “Thank you, my ‘Nubi.” Cavansite said softly, relaxing with the words and the closeness of the corrupt. It was so easy to pick favorites now, and this girl had slid into that place without even trying. Her spunky little ‘Nubi. So eager to become stronger to please her. To protect herself. Her brother. To climb the ranks of the Negaverse.

“You will go on to do great things, I think. You make me so very proud. I can’t imagine ever having someone better on my team.”

Cavansite smiled softly, enjoying for a moment this time to savor the pleasant emotions that this senshi evoked within her. It was like breathing fresh air after sitting inside for months. It was like tasting fresh fruit after subsiding on nothing but canned and frozen foods for years.

She squeezed the girl gently and relaxed. “Make me proud in the tournament, and I’ll reward you with something nice.” There was almost an edge of flirting in her voice and her eyes closed slightly. She still mourned her Amesite. Her Laurence. But. ‘Nubi was right. They were all there for her. All of her recruits. They wouldn’t ever be Laurence. But they were all themselves.

Cavansite hesitated and pressed just a little closer. “Never purify. Please. Stay with me for always, ‘Nubi. Promise.”

'My 'Nubi'. That's what Cavansite said. It caused her face to blush up a bit under her freckles. Nubi knew where she belonged, who she belonged to, but hearing it like that, so gentle, almost made her heart melt. They were such kind words, how could Mali possibly distrust his woman?

Of course she was the best person on the team. They were all great, she was sure, but there was always someone on top. And if there was someone on top, it was going to be her. It was great to know her General expected her to go on to do great things. It only confirmed what she already believed she was capable of. One of these days she'd have to meet her other teammates for real. If they were all selected by Cavansite, they had to be equally fabulous.

"I will definitely make you proud." Whoever her opponents were, they better be prepared. With Cavansite on the sideline cheering her on, nothing would be impossible. Plus, she really wanted to know what that reward would be.

Nubi wrapped her arms around Cavansite and gave her a gentle hug. "There's no way I would ever do that. I'm not an easy person to rattle." How could she ever leave Cavansite? Abadon the Negaverse? After everything she had done for her? Impossible.

Cavansite smiled and nodded, enjoying the hug while she could, her eyes closing for a moment and her own arms wrapping around the senshi. It felt nice. Warm.

The feeling was gone before she could really start to savor it, and the general sighed heavily. “I’m glad. I will be there to cheer you on. Your brother too. Even if he gets angry for my being there.”

Quietly she reached up and stroked the senshi’s hair before pulling away. “I’m glad to hear that you won’t ever purify. I would be devastated to lose you. Truly. You are…quite special to me.”

There was almost…something in the way she spoke. Something that spoke of more than pride. More than…the normal affection of a general towards her lieutenant.

“I will see you at the Tournament. You will make me proud, no matter what happens, my little snake. I will always be proud of anything you accomplish.”

With Cavansite watching, Nubi seriously felt like she could take on any challenge thrown her way. It was great having a General that appreciated her this much, that saw the effort she was putting in. She would have to make sure Mali didn't scowl too much while she cheered for them on the sidelines. Not that she was usually able to do anything to stop that mood of his.

"I wouldn't be able to go on without you." Nubi gave her mentor one last hug and then slide off the bench, stretching her legs as she did so. She was feeling a whole lot better about the tournament now.

"I promise not to let you down, Cavansite. I'll be worth all the praise you give me." She smiled and held out a hand so she could help Cavansite stand as well. "So, I'll see you at the Tournament then. I look forward to seeing you in the stands." Of course, she didn't expect Cavansite to get wild with her cheering or anything. But just having her there would be enough.
