Chip had gotten a handle on how to use a computer—it wasn’t too hard, really. Just a touch here, a key press there...simple!

The real interesting thing, though, was how it did its magic on the inside. It didn’t feel magical, and it didn’t move or make much noise. He was sure he could figure out exactly how it all stuck together easily enough, and then he’d be much better equipped to make better ones!

When he decided it was time to take one apart, he first headed toward the Negaverse computer lab, but then decided some of the more dour agents around might take exception to him doing that, so he quickly changed his mind and went into the Mauvian headquarters in the castle. Nobody to object!

Well, that wasn’t true, there might be a Mau that didn’t appreciate him taking apart the equipment, but...it was probably fine.


So it was that some time later, he’d (with screwdriver in mouth, and some Mauvian magic) popped open a case, and pulled out its components, bit by bit, and arrayed them around him when he heard the sound of someone else approaching. He was delicately pulling off a piece, so didn’t want to look up to see who it was juust yet.

Chip popped his head up and looked at her, only a brief flash of surprise on his face as his fancy hat shifted to the side. “Oh, hi!” He practically chirped, then shook his head. “Nah, I’m not improving it...yet,” he answered. “No, see, first I wanted to see exactly how it all fit together! There’s so many little parts in here!”

He stood up, and shifted to the side, assuming the other Mau would want to have a look as well. Since, naturally, that’s what he would do!

“I do~ I think I’m about ready to try putting it back together, too,” Chip said, tail flicking behind him. “I...don’t remember exactly where each piece goes, though. But I can figure it out!” He rocked his head happily and added, “Or we can.”

“My name’s Chip!” He declared. “Good to meetcha, Obie!”

He looked back down at the array of parts. “I’m kinda disappointed about how boring the insides are. Almost nothing inside spins!”

Chip’s ears perked up at the suggestion of putting it together more...interestingly. “Oh! That’s a great idea!” He declared. “If we take apart this other one to compare, I’m sure we can find a few things around to add in to make them much more fun!” His tail swished excitedly before he added, “And I guess maybe run better, too, but they already seem pretty good on that front. They’re just so boorring!”

Chip was most definitely a young little Mau, in search of entertainment and cool things. That his idea of entertainment and cool things involved gadgets and whirling thinkamajigs was entirely incidental to that assessment of him.

“Isn’t it?” Chip agreed emphatically, nodding and swishing his tail. “What’s the point of making something cool if it doesn’t look cool, right?” He pawed the freshly opened computer. “It’s got so much stuff in it, but it just...sits there.”

His eyes practically sparkled as he beamed at Obie, thinking of possibilities. “Instead of blinky lights, we should have some gears spinning here,” he put his paw on the case, “And here,” it moved over a bit. “So that when it’s thinking, the gears are really turning, then!”

"A secret?" Chip mused briefly, then shook his head. "Nahhh, let's make it cool so all the Maus can see how cool it is! Maybe then everybody will be inspired to make cooler looking stuff!" He giggled, then said, "Let's get started!"

It was time, he figured, to start putting things together. No sense in leaving it sitting around too much. So, as he suggested they did, he got going with shuffling parts around. For the style points...and practicality too, he supposed.

"Oh, signing it is a great idea!" Chip agreed, nodding enthusiastically, and almost dropping his hat into the computer's innards. "Oop!" The hat precariously remained on an ear, and he straightened up.

"I think we're almost done," he declared cheerfully as he wobbled his head to fix hat positioning. "So you should get that paint, and we can sign it like you said!"

Maybe cover it in "signatures." Who knew?

“Red works for me!” Chip declared cheerfully, and watched as she carefully pawpainted her name. Once it was done, Chip went to work himself. His own “signature” was not very careful, but one could sort of figure out it did say “Chip” on it.

However, he managed two perfect paw prints (with tiny claw dots) on either side of his name, using both paws.

“Perfect!” He said, once that was done. “This computer is way better, now!”

Never mind that they hadn’t really done much in the way of testing. It would probably work.
