Chip had been playing with the computers in Mau HQ today, discovering how to properly use one. It seemed they weren’t particularly well designed for kitten usage...something to look into! But first he had to understand them. There was a desire to start breaking one apart, but figured that’d probably be a bit more trouble than it was worth (just yet, anyway). So after fiddling for a while, he took to laying himself over a particularly nice pillow, his little legs splayed out like he’d just landed on the thing in a most ungraceful manner. In spite of his splatted pose, draped over the pillow, he still adjusted his head just so, ensuring his cute little top hat (which he could not for the life of him remember where it came from) balanced perfectly above him during his little cat nap. Not that it would take much to dislodge said hat, but this cats-only place had little chance of someone coming by and their super long cloak accidentally taking his poor hat out. Nope, no chance at all...

Haymitch never spent any time in the Mau HQ. He never spent any time doing his job, period, so why start now? Occasionally though... Well he decided that maybe it would probably be a potentialy good idea to go check up on things. Not that Haymitch ever did anything at the HQ. The computers confundled the heck out of him, and he'd rather stick to his mail, thank you very much.
Today he thought he'd try again. It would be relatively empty and he could stare blankly at the screen until he went cross eyed and left. No one would be the wiser and he could keep up the appearance of being a completely worthless Guardian Cat. Not that that was hard.
He trotted into the room and noticed ther other cat in the room. Haymitch did not quite recognize this one, only that he wore a hat - Another hat wearer! It was too bad Brioche wasn't around anymore, he'd loved that cat's hat - but they were a kitten at least. Someone his size.
"HI!" cried Haymitch, batting the hat from the other kitten's head and beaming down at him with an excited grin. "Who are you!?"

The sudden loss of his hat woke Chip up from his nap, and he popped up, blinking in surprise, looking around. The surprise didn’t last long, though, as he quickly spotted the other kitty, and he switched to being pleased: There was someone new to talk to! “Hii~” he replied happily, and reared up to bat the other cat’s hat. “I’m Chip! Who’re you?” His tone was cheerful, and his face happy—they were playing the Hat Swatting game! What was that game? Who knew?

"I'm Haymitch!" he said, rolling to try to catch his own hat. He chased after it for a second then came back, plopping it back on his head. Ready for round two of Hat Swatting!
Haymitch settled onto a pillow, tail wiggling behind him. His butt wiggled too, and he generally just didn't sit still, even with the pillow beneath him. He was too excited! This was fun! He completely forgot about the HQ around them, more focused Chip than anything else.
"What are you doing here?!" he asked Chip, awaiting the next paw swipe for his hat. He'd dodge this time!

As Haymitch went for his hat, Chip ducked back and retrieved his own, flipping it back up onto his head to land with a light pwip sound. “Nice to meetcha, Haymitch,” he replied happily, and adopted a similarly pounce-ready pose, watching the little yellow hat carefully. “I was taking a nap,” he said, ears wiggling some, “after pawing at the computer thingies for a while!” Not exactly a detailed answer, but...there wasn’t really much to it. He then bounced up, and swatted for the yellow hat again, expecting it to be just as easy to dislodge as before.

Haymitch was waiting for it this time, and dodged out of the way. He took a swipe at Chip's hat, claws out to grab it this time. If he got it, he'd run a few paces away from Chip with it in his mouth.
"Computer thingies? What's a computer thingie?" he asked, tail flicking with excitement still. He didn't know what these things were, but they seemed way over his tiny fluffy head.
Like his hat.

He missed! Chip was disappointed...and then doubly so when his hat got clawed! The kitten blinked his surprise for a moment, and then an opportunity was presented to him to fix the situation... "Oh, those, over there!" he said, edging closer, and gesturing with his head and tail toward the computers in the room. "They blink and beep and stuff, but lotsa words!" He hoped that the other mau would look to see where he pointed, and then he'd strike!

Haymitch was many things. He was cute, he was a fabulous mail carrier, he even sometimes actually did his job as a guardian cat. You could put him in your pocket and take him places. What Haymitch was not, was smart. "EH?!?!" said the small may, dropping the hat from his mouth as it fell open. He stared where Chip pointed, trying to figure what was a 'computer' and what wasn't. It left him wiiiide open for a hat swipe. Tolin sorry for the no formatting, tagging on my phone!

"Aha!" Chip declared, and pounced forward, going strait for Haymitch's hat, and landing on the opposite side of his opponent with a happy "mrow!" of a hat in custody. Technically, he'd left his own hat behind in the process...but now he had a different one, so flipped Haymitch's hat up onto his head, and sat looking quite triumphant. "The glowy things that show words and pictures. Those're computers!" he provided. No reason to not actually explain what they were looking at, even if he'd had ulterior motives to pointing it out. a-disgruntled-dragon All good~ formatting is just icing anyway! biggrin

Okay Haymitch had to admit, Chip was good. Way more devious than he'd first expected. He also looked dashing in Haymitch's hat. Not as dashing as himself of course, but he couldn't deny it. Not when Haymitch put on Chip's own hat. "Oh!" he exclaimed, "the humans at the mail sorting place use those things! I don't know what they do on them, cause they ain't sorting the mail!" Haymitch's tail flicked back and forth and he tried to gage if he could get both hats.... Then he'd have a hat for his hat! That would be spectacular.

"Oh, do they have stuff that sorts mail?" Chip asked, suddenly curious, and leaned in some. He was a smart kitty, to be sure, but there was a hilariously large amount of things that he just wasn't aware of. "Mail's the folded paper things some of the humans have piled up, right?"
A basic piece of information, but as yet, Chip didn't have much need of things like the mail.
For the moment, he forgot about the hat swiping challenge, satisfied as he was with having a hat. They'd have to switch back eventually, but for now...he felt sufficiently victorious.
And, being the kitten he was, he immediately decided it was time for a cat nap, so stepped to the side a bit, and flopped down onto one of the nice mau mats waiting for them, and rolled onto his side with a contented sigh. It was a well-fought battle.

He did not in fact get the other hat. Seeing Chip flop over for a nap gave Haymitch the idea for a nap and the kitten just sort of... fell over and passed out.
