Ah, the warmth the lands brought almost made Two Tone wish they didn't move the pack twice a year, but it was needed. The mountains brought safety to the wolves, and safety meant the ability to grow in numbers. While they were relatively small, one day Two Tone knew the pack would grow.

With the raven watching some of their younger members, the male set out again, trekking down the less rocky terrain, scenting and marking the land as he roamed. He would need to scout out some herds, and get a meal. While not always the best hunter, he would do what he needed to ensure his 'family' members survived.

When an unknown scent entered his nostrils, the male snorted, turning to follow that instead of the small hare's tracks. What did they have here?

Quote:
Ocean had been tracking a small injured deer, it had been following it's herd with difficulty when she'd first sniffed the smell of blood, seemed the young creature had met with a predator, escaped but was now slowly fading, normally she would leave deer well alone but she hadn't eaten in almost a week, everything she'd caught had been small and been given to her almost fully grown pup, as if caring for him was the only thing in her life but she was now stomach clenchingly hungry and this deer would feed both of them for a while before she had to hunt again.

She took a shot at running at it but stumbled, her body weaker than she'd thought, letting the deer get further away than she could currently follow. She lay on the ground, and put a paw over her snout, trying not to cry in frustration. She couldn't do this alone anymore.... but she somehow had to...

Quote:
First it was the scent of blood that caught his attention. The injured deer crossing his path as he remained hidden under some brush. He noted the sluggish movements. Something had brought it to this point, but what or who? There was a twinge of hunger pains in his stomach, but Two Tone ignored them, watching the deer wander past. He would make note to follow it, but now wasn't the time.

Instead, he headed in the direction it had come. His dual colored eyes scanning for the threat that would take down or attempt to a small prey beast. There, his eyes narrowed, at the fallen she-wolf.

"Hunting alone is a difficult task as your deer is getting further away. May I be of assistance? We could share the profits of the kill." Two Tone offered, keeping his distance from the female in case she were to retaliate. She would need to make her decision quick. How far could the injured deer get was something Two Tone didn't know.

Ocean had been so caught up in her thoughts, she hadn't heard, or indeed even registered the scent of the wolf that seemed to sprout from the bushes. She startled and scrambled backwards, sitting up on her haunches, ready to flee, she couldn't afford a fight when she had Screech to look after.

"Oh ... well it's not my deer, i mean... i didn't injure it anyway" she said, trying to calm her rapid heartbeat, this was the first wolf she had seen since her encounter all those moons ago, leaving her alone, with her Screech to care for.

"you'd help me?" she asked, wary, "Why?" it was then her body embarassed her by her stomach growling very audibly "i.... i could stand to share yes" she smiled, not sure why he would help her but at this point she didn't know if she would be able to hunt at all soon .. if she didn't eat and for once since realising she was in pup, she put herself first, too trusting perhaps, she thought, but this wolf seemed nice and hadn't attacked her when it was clear he was a wolf with an aura of authority

"I could be like some and steal others kills, but that isn't me. I have a small hidden agenda, a small pack back near the mountain base I would like to share fresh meat with. They have traveled recently, and are wary from it. This would kill two birds with one stone." Two Tone explained, a smirk rising to his maw at the rumble in the female's belly. "Besides, if I don't help, it looks like you would be going without a meal and by the sounds of it," his eyes flickered to her stomach, "it has been awhile since you ate?" He found himself chuckling slightly.

"Call me Two Tone." He introduced. "Should we head out before it gets too far away." He turned away from the female, eyeing the direction the deer had gone. He could keep up with it, but didn't know if she would be able to.

Quote:
Ocean smiled, he was charming this male.. and apparently quite honest "i've travelled too, with another mouth to feed, but he ate yesterday" she admitted, "Me however, a few days maybe longer" it made it hard to think exactly when her last proper meal was that wasn't a small bite to keep her going, everything went to Screech, who always seemed hungry, she'd taught him to hunt of course but he never seemed to put himself into it and things tended to get away rom him

"Ocean, i would be glad of the help, perhaps you could herd it back this way? i know of a small dead gully it won't be able to jump out of since it's injured" she offered, perhaps between them, they could herd it into the gully "i don't think i have the energy for a long run" she said, ears lowered in shame, she hated seeming weak but something about this wolf prompted honesty from her.

Quote:
"Ah, do you have a youngster at home?" Strange, the female didn't smell of one who had been with a child recently. Then again, all scents were different. "Perhaps you could bring them over to the family dens. I mean, there is a small pup who I am sure would love friends." Here Two Tone was, unsure of the others predicament but believing the other mouth she had to feed was the same age as Clay Fox.

Besides, the offer could lead her to join up to his pack. And more members meant more thrive ability.

While it wasn't the most opportune idea for a hunt, Two Tone found himself nodding, taking off in a short sprint after the deer. It didn't take him too long to meet up with it, making a wide arch to cut it off. The creature shuddered to a halt before doing a complete one-eighty pivot and hightailing it back towards Ocean.

Soon, the creature was in range to the she-wolf. Two Tone would let her guide it to the gully she mentioned before either of them could make the final blow.

Quote:
"I'm ashamed to say, he's almost grown, he knows how to hunt but doesn't seem to be able to follow through" her ears lowered even more, looking at it from the other wolf's perspective, she thought that maybe... she'd been indulging him a little too much, being the only company she had.

While Two Tone went off chasing the deer, she thought over his offer of joining his pack, it was a very tempting offer, she would have help on the hunt and she wouldn't have to do EVERYTHING, alone anymore. She definitely gave it some thought in the short minutes before she heard the crashing of the underbrush meaning the injured deer was heading her way.
She leapt out of the undergrowth making it veer off sharply away from the easy trail and down into the dead end gully, wher Ocean stood, guarding the only entrance, watching the poor creature try and fling itself onto the ledge, just out of reach, she would wait for Two Tone to catch up before heading in for the kill, and food.... she couldn't help drooling a little.

Quote:
Oh, a full...grown male? Ah, well...That wouldn't be as much as a play friend for Clay, but, maybe things could work out if they had opted to come with him.

Two Tone slowed his speed on his return with the deer, watching again as the beast pivoted and flail down the gully. His ears perked forward as the creature struggled, standing next to the weakened she-wolf before she dove for the kill.

Soon, the prey was nothing but a lifeless corpse, and had enough meat to hold over multiple grown wolves. Normally, an Alpha would have consumed a meal first, but as the situation called, Two Tone was not Ocean's alpha. They were a team in this situation, therefore they could eat together. The male took it one further step. "Go ahead." He would allow her to eat first. She was already weak, and he could map out what to bring back to the pack once she had her fill.

Quote:
Ocean made the kill but had waited to eat, taken aback completely when he told her to go and eat, "but you're an Alpha" she breathed, however he had given permission and she dove in, heading for the best parts hungrily and, when she had eaten her fill, tore off a large hunk to carry back to Screech later, for now she would enjoy digesting her food and talking with this male

"Thank you" she said, a little embarassed at the way she had pigged out on the deer, but now she was sated, she lost all of her suspicion of ulterior motives from this wolf, had he any plans, he could have carried them out at any stage of their meeting. "So, how big of a pack are we talking about?" she asked, a smile creeping onto her face as she stepped away from the carcass, giving him a little more space in this small gully. She had to admit to herself, it was nice to spend time with a wolf who wasn't whining at her to do things for him, much as she loved her son, the bond was weaker now he was almost grown, any other wolf would have chased him off by now to find a pack, though she held the hope they could both join.

Quote:
Two Tone held back as the female ate her fill of the small prey. His ear flickered as bone was pulled away, placing to the side. Once she stepped aside, he moved towards the carcass, only take a small bite or two. He would drag the remainder back home with him. A pup needed it more for growing than he did.

"It's small." Two Tone said honestly. "But, always growing. We live in the mountains part of the year, and the climate isn't suited for everyone." His first year as alpha was the worst. Not knowing what to expect, they had dwindled to bare numbers. Slowly the pack was bounding back together.

"We have a home den at the base not too far from here." He nudged his head in the direction. "You don't seem to be one that brings ill will-" and if she did have ulterior motives they wouldn't last long under Two Tone's nose. "You are welcome to check it out. We will remain there until the temperature changes."

Quote:
Ocean watched as Two Tone ate his meal, ears flicking at every loud sound but listened as the male talked about his pack, a small one sounded better than a large one, easier to feed for a start.

She tilted her head, smiling "Migrating with herds is a good idea when you need larger prey for everyone" she admitted, though she was .. or had been, it seemed, always migrating to one place or another, never settling.

She looked at him, taken aback "I would never!" she said, sitting up on her haunches at even the slightest insinuation she would bring harm. "Im tired of being on the move, im realising it's time to settle somewhere.. with other wolves, If you would have us, me and my son, we would join you" she bowed her head to the Alpha. "Would you like some help taking this back to your pack? i can call for my son, his name is Screech, it may be better to meet your pack, with you there with us first?" she was nervous, Two Tone seemed accepting... but would his pack.

Quote:
Two Tone hummed as Ocean spoke, a small smile flicking to his maw. He nodded. "Yes, I would like that." Both with the help, and the potential of joining. "Is your son relatively close to here?" The weather was still cool out, so the meat wouldn't spoil as quickly. Plus, in the few moments that he had met the female, she had been out of energy. Even with food in her belly, Two Tone wouldn't want her to do any kind of strenuous work until her full strength was back. Another male would be helpful in dragging the prey beast back to the dens.

"I am sure the pack will be welcoming." As small as they were after all. "But I will accompany you and your son there." In all actuality, if the she wolf and her son brought back the meal, it would be seen as a good gesture to the other members.

Quote:
Ocean smiled, a warm feeling spread in her body, which could just be the contentment that came with a full stomach after being hungry, She was definitely feeling stronger for sure. "Yes, he's not too far away for a howl" she said, sighing softly.

She howled for Screech and it didn't take long for the largely grown male to turn up. He froze however when he saw Two Tone, Growling low and hunching his body ready for action, the male was between him and his mother, and a meal. Ocean barked out at him to stop being silly and urged him over "This nice Alpha has invited us to his pack, we are going to join him, YOU are going to help him carry that meal back" she told Screech.

Screech for his part, was about to argue but his mother gave him 'the look' that brooked no arguing. Instead he nodded to the wolf. "Screech" he muttered, sulking a little while Ocean chuckled "anytime son" she said, gesturing to the carcass before picking up the hunk she'd removed earlier, tilting her head to Two Tone "After you then?" she said softly at the Alpha, aslightly mischevious twinkle in her eye at the interaction between mother and son.

Quote:
The alpha waited patiently as the she wolf called for her son. It didn't take long for the male to come from the underbrush, when a smirk appeared on his maw as the male's growl and offensive position. Two Tone remained in his normal stance. He already stood proud. He wouldn't fight unless the male initiated the first contact.

However, it was his mother that had got to her son first, a sight that greatly amused the lead. "She doesn't look like one to say no to." Two Tone commented towards Screech, his smirk widening.

"Two Tone." The alpha bobbed his head, chuckling as he took a part of the carcass in his maw, and led the duo back to the pack territory.
