The wound was fresh. Very fresh. Hours old, fresh, and her mind was in the thick of shock; heart pounding against a heaving chest, deafeningly. Her stomach felt heavy beneath the fur, almost like a liquid that threatened to melt into a puddle. It was just as she, stumbling out of the wastes, so desperately wanted to do. Melt. Disappear. Grief had a way of rattling ones core. But the wolf that wandered just beyond the Redwoods threshold appeared fine. No trails of blood. No gashes to be found. A healthy young female, by all accounts, of less than a year and growing stronger by the day. The pain would not subsided however, as it radiated from within. There, in the space one holds for compassion, for love, for family, in her heart of hearts, a deep soul cut had been made that day. She blinked, and her minds eye took her to dark fur pressed sleekly against a large skull. Bold blue eyes peered back at her... through her... as she shook off the illusion. What she needed was a distraction. To collect herself before returning to Wood Rot's side. Hell, perhaps she'd find another companion to travel with and never see her brother again... That would teach him to betray family.... But even that thought seemed to stall out just as it surfaced, losing traction and instead triggering fear. Again, her head shook to relieve the building tension and her gaze refocused on the world ahead of her. Fen Mire moved away from the Redwoods and towards the forest, but at such a slow pace that the wastes behind her only seemed to inch further and further away. "Oh...Silver Tongue..." Kyrieko Feel free to respond whenever and with whomever! This is taking place a bit before Fen and her brother Wood Rot make their way to the main forest. Technically, it's the same day that Wood Rot killed their brother Silver Tongue. But trust, it won't be a sad RP lol She. Is. Weird.

The sun was beginning to feel a little too warm against her chocolate coat, causing the wolf to stir from her little nap. She blinked slowly, ears flicking this way and that, alert for any new sounds. Nothing stood out and she stretched her paws out in front of her with a big yawn, nails slipping out briefly before she jumped to her feet with her tail held high. Then she gave her coat a great big shake before dashing off suddenly.
Only to slam on the breaks as a sound caught her attention. Evie paused, head still and ears working to pick up the faint sound she'd almost missed. It was soft, a little distance away. Raising her nose to the air, she scented the small breeze for anything. There was something out there.
Excitement renewed, Evie pranced with her ears alert, and headed towards the scent she could catch bits of. Her curiosity was gnawing at her, being so close to the Redwoods.
It was movement that finally caught her full attention. Evie froze, tail curled up in eagerness as her eyes pinpointed the source of the movement. Great and glorious sunshine! There was another wolf!
Without thinking, Evie bound right towards the other wolf with a gleeful expression and tongue hanging out. She didn't really stop to wonder if the other wolf would appreciate someone coming towards them. Or if they were friendly. She was just too excited to pass up the opportunity to find someone new to play with! Maybe. She was still a young female herself.
"HI THERE!" She barked out happily. Shia Bean Sounds good! And weird is A++ ;D

It can't be real, he can't be gone. I definitely saw it though... for sure, I saw him. Lying there an--They're idiots, both of them, such idiots... I hate--HI THERE! The train of thought vanished. There was no crash, no stutter... just poof, gone. And in its place there loped a stranger. "H-hello! Hi, hello! Yes, hi!" Fen Mire's tone went from off-guard to thrilled in seconds, like the master bluffer she was, and the female's bounding was met by her own high-footed trot as the gap bridged in just a few strides. Once upon the other female, what would normally be a polite greeting of minimal contact turned into a flurry of wiggles, yips, whines, and the excited snuffle of a nose, beneath a skull, violently scenting the air around her. The flustered energy that, initially, had no place to go morphed into anxiety as Fen Mire reeled back and lowered herself flat to the ground; tail sweeping like a rudder at her back. The feigning of submission had not only been taught by, but had earned her the affections of both siblings each and every time she displayed it. So, conditioned, her eyes rolled up from a bowed head and she panted heavily in wait for... Well... affection. At least thats what she thought she wanted.

Evie was almost beside herself to have such a friendly and affectionate welcome. She added in her own yips and wines with way too much wiggling for one wolf body to handle before she was snuffled by a nose. And then she snuffled her nose with a surprising gentleness, before staring intently at the strange new wolf. She took a moment to actually study the other female, making sure she wasn't in the wrong and she really didn't know her. That would be so embarrassing!
Although it would certainly make for an exciting story to tell friends about later.
This was probably way too much excitement for any wolf to handle.
"How are you? Are you new here? I haven't seen you before. Have you found anything exciting around here?" It all came out in a rush of breath as the chocolate female pawed playfully at the other, who was flat on the ground.
Oooh was this a game? Were they going to play some fun game?! Evie panted, lowering the front have of her body with her tail still sticking up in the air, wagging frantically.
"Do you want to play?" That was totally the adult thing to ask. Totally.

Well this was a pleasant surprise. The mixture of building excitement and the positively reinforced behavior only leant to Fen Mire's ruse, and she continued to play into the interaction. All but forgetting about the weight of her grief. When the other wolf began to speak, her ears shot back and a gleeful 'smile' peeled her lips; exposing clenched teeth. The wiggling subsided for only a moment, allowing her to breathe out, "I've never been here before! I am from the Wastes... My name is Fen Mire! My brother and I are--" when pawed at, Fen gave an excited whine and shuffled forward, rolling to her back. Forgetting her place in conversation entirely, she instead used her forepaws to swat at the air around the female. Play? "Oh! I'D LOVE TO PLAY!" Her legs kicked frantically, tail-end sweeping at the dirt while the skull she wore clattered against the earth. She was a chaotic flurry, worming her way closer and closer to this strangely inviting female. "What games do you know?!" She really wanted to suggest the hiding game her brothers never let her in on, but just thinking about them kept her from doing so. They didn't have to be present to keep her in-line... One of them didn't have to be alive at all, in fact. A tongue poked out from in between her teeth before the whole of her jaws unhinged, heavy breaths accompanying her display.

Oooooh she wasn't from around here? She was from the wastes?! Evie's already enthusiastic interested sky rocketed even more. Surely a wolf that had been from the wastes would have all kinds of exciting stories to tell? Or know the most nifty of places to go exploring? Or maybe even rumors to gossip about! He tail was wagging so much at just the gleeful thoughts!
There were so many, she couldn't get them articulated before getting derailed again. "Greetings, Fen Mire!" She blurted out.
And then forgot all about the questions that rolled around her mind somewhere as the word 'play' was repeated. YES! Evie yipped happily at Fen Mire. Wait. What games did she know?
"Oh. Well. I know the chase game. The tag game. Which I guess is kinda like the chase game but you chase each other instead of a squirrel. Then there's the race game. The wrestle game." She stopped long enough to catch her breath before making up her mind, tongue lolling out in anticipation. "How about the TAG GAME. Or... or... " She tried really hard to think of other games, but was wiggling too much to keep still much longer. Shia bean LOL if you were interested in tossing a twist into their fun, we could totally do 'tag' or 'hide-n-seek' with a d4 or something and match the others number to 'tag/find' them! x3

Kyrieko UM YES PLEASE! I'll let you get it started, since Fen is all 'omg wat' Tag? "Oh, um!" Though her eyes never left the other female, Evie's explanation fell on deaf ears. Fen Mire broken the illusion by falling silent, then righting herself into a state of stillness. Tag... Tag... Tag... What was tag... had the boys ever played it? Did they exclude her from that, too? Maybe they never told her about it... Why couldn't she remember? Was she forgetting about him already? "... My brother never let me play...that one..." She muttered abruptly, mouth barely moving to ensure she was heard. And her gaze had fallen to the forest just beyond them; staring without actually seeing anything at all. It took another moment, a deep breath, before the memories pulled Fen to her feet. Beneath the skull she blinked hard, and the thoughts grew foggy... steadily dissipating... so she blinked again... and again... until the other female came back into view. Her whole body took to wiggling again, but with such intensity as to distract from it having ever stopped. "Okay! Show me how um... what's your name?"

Whatever stillness may have befallen the other female was missed by chocolate female as she prattled on about the games she knew and debated which one they should play. Tag had seemed like the best one for a first meeting! And it was fun to run around and tackle each other. Right?
Her ears twitched and swiveled towards Fen Mire, barely catching her words before the other wolf was standing. Evie beamed.
"Have you never played with your siblings?" That was just sad! Evie just smiled at the other wolf. "Well that is okay if you haven't! It's a fun and simple game. I will teach you. My sister and I used to play. I bet you'll like it." She shook herself, getting some more of the wiggles out before stretching into a play bow.
"Oh! I'm so sorry. I just got so excited I forgot to tell you my name. I'm Evening Storm. But you can call me Evie, if you prefer."
"Now, tag. It's easy. One of us is 'IT' and they have to catch the other and 'TAG' them. Then we switch. Like chasing a squirrel. Except you don't get to eat the squirrel. You get to run free and have fun!" Best explanation.
"I'll show you!" Whether Fen Mire was truly ready or not, Evie was. She jumped to her feet and one of her big paws gently smacked against the skull the other wolf wore. And then she took off, paws pounding against the ground and muscles tensing as she jumped over a small tree branch. "TAG! You're it, Fen!"

“No… but—” the topics came and went far too quickly. Evening Storm… no… Evie… was already several topics in another direction, leaving Fen Mire in her wake. Foreboding. But it was no matter, for in the end the words lost all meaning and the sound of Evie's voice was drowned out by a singular realization: Fen… had a Friend. Someone who wasn’t a part of 'the family'. Someone who… didn’t know Wood Rot... she was pretty sure of it. Someone all her own.You won’t take this one... you can't have her…~boop~ She leaned into Evie’s paw before it broke contact, satisfied with where her FIRST real encounter with a stranger was headed… only to quickly shift gears when the other female took to a sprint. Fen Mire bolted after reflexively, feet pounding, willing her entire body to utilize what speed and strength it could to close the gap. The mechanics of the game were second nature… or so she thought. Even if she had lost herself to her own musings; ‘chase’ was in her DNA. She was built for it… And yet the distance between the two furthered. All the confidence in the world could not elude that of inexperience... for which Fen Mire reeked of. “H-hey!” She called out, barely aware that they had, indeed, started the game. "Wait up!" Kyrieko ((GIRL. So is Evie omg ))

(Number to Match: 3)A gleeful laugh was the first response that Fen would receive at such a silly request to 'wait up'. Evie thought it was hilarious and howled her delight. She didn't make it easy on the other female either. Of course, Evie tended to forget about her bigger size and had no difficulty in vaulting over objects that the smaller Fen might have to maneuver around. She even managed to leap up towards the trunk of a tree and sort of jump off the bark over a shrub in her path.
"You have to catch me, Fen!" The chocolate wolf called back, peaking behind to see if her new friend was still there.
"That's how you play tag! You gotta 'tag' me!"
She hadn't played this game with anyone since she was a pup and had her sister to torment. Fond memories of happy puphood and family made the already happy female seem to take on an extra boost of speed. Running she was good at! Also maybe barreling through things that she shouldn't. Like the berry bush she didn't see until she ran through it, sticky berry juice getting in her fur.
Not that she slowed down. Much. Maybe only to lick a little bit of berry guts off her leg. Shia bean Dawwww Fen you has a friend! :'D

Tag. Touch. Tackle? Right. Fen's legs were struggling to keep upright as much as they were trying to keep up, but she forced a response all the same. "Okay!" With every sharp turn or action-packed maneuver Evie exhibited, Fen Mire, taken off guard, would hesitate. When she thought she was close enough for a tackle, she'd undershoot or over compensate and go skidding off to the side. And when Evie powered through the berry bush, Fen managed to get part of her long fur stuck on a twig, ripping her back into a tumble. "Agh!" She fussed, her ego the most damaged part about her. "This isn't fair. You're too fast!" Maybe this was why her brothers didn't ask her to play? Maybe they'd call her a cry-baby or not fast enough. Not smart enough, even... Well she'd show them. Fen shifted, feigning injury by lifting onto her feet slowly and then sinking back onto her rear. If she couldn't win the right way, she'd just have to win her way. "Ah... Ow! Hold on! I need to---sssahh, I need to get up!"

Laughter just flitted back to Fen. "I have to be fast! So you can't catch me~" She teased, feeling only the smallest bit of guilt that she'd let her excitement drive her paws a little too much. And taking advantage of their size difference.
Evie let her paws slow the smallest bit, glancing over her shoulder to spot Fen Mire as she shot past her, putting too much force in to the tackle that the chocolate wolf evaded. The bright happy gleam never left her eyes though, even if the smallest bit of concern began to form. She didn't want her new friend to get too upset and not want to play anymore!
But tag was about being fast. And agile. And not getting tackled by the others.
The chocolate female heard the pained words of her new friend, skidding to a halt further ahead. Her ears were up straight, tail erect as she looked around, making sure there wasn't someone else that had suddenly hurt her friend. She turned back, fighting with the adrenaline in her system making her paws want to soar.
"Fen? Are you okay?" Evie called, heading back along the path she'd raced down, worry starting to make her move faster until she caught a glimpse of the other wolf just ahead. "Fen?!"

Fen Mire continued to bait. She was good at this... conditioned for it. Her posture remained low, reclined, deep breaths heaving her chest to give greater show of her... exhaustion? Pain? Saying nothing in response to Evie's concern. Until... Until she was just close enough. In sprinting distance. Her blue eyes flicked up quickly. Were they glowing brighter than before? And though her countenance was dipped, a feral grin peeled her lips back. And it was hard to miss. " Got'cha." The octave of her tone knocked down a peg or two, sounding guttural, almost. Less like Fen... but not exactly not her. And she leapt forward, pushing off the earth with strong hind legs, flinging herself towards Evie. Beaming with pride. I'm going to win. Kyrieko (But are you Fen? Haha leaving it up to you how she fails LOL)

Some of the playful skip left her paws as Evie grew more concerned, ears alert and the big chocolate wolf trying to peer over the shrubbery towards her friend. Moons, she would be so upset if her new friend got hurt while they had been playing a fun game that she had asked to play. Evie spotted movement and the cool skull that Fen Mire had upon her head.
"Fen! Fen are you okay?!" Evie finally came in to view of her friend, she was hunched down with her paw up...
Until she wasn't.
The chocolatey wolf had just started to lower her head to check on her friend, when she caught the briefest glimpse of that grin... heard that deeper voice... and instinct kicked right in with the barest bit of thought put towards her actions. Evie slunk to the side as Fen leapt towards her, going belly to the ground before she used her greater size to leap over the shrubbery Fen had pretended to be hurt by.
Evie was laughing hysterically, somehow managing not to trip over her own paws as she landed and twisted around to beam at Fen.
"OH THAT WAS SO AWESOME! You sure fooled me. So clever of you, Fen! I will have to remember that one!" She still laughed, tail wagging a mile a minute in her good cheer and a canine grin directed towards Fen Mire.
"But you still can't catch me~!" Evie sing-songed and pranced about, teal eyes never moving from Fen.

As the attempt failed, Fen went into an internal rage. Or, well, mostly internal. "But you still can't catch me, nah, nah." She mocked, but even that was disrupted by dirt-mixed saliva; fueling the fire burning within her. When she finally found her feet, Fen peeked over the bush to see Evie on her way out. Several strides out, as a matter of fact, and gaining distance fast. It left the dark brown, brooding wolf in the dust. Fuming. Calculating. And realizing that the odds were not in her favor. She was out of tricks. And the game was no longer fun because she couldn't win... legs that nearly had a mind of their own propelled her forward at a slow jog. When she rounded the bush, a quick sprint helped... but not by much. It took her a moment to realize it. To accept it. But Fen was bested. Defeat played out behind her eyes, while every other part of her kept moving. Trying. And failing. When at last she was near Evie, but no where near catching the she-wolf, Fen Mire called out. "Alright! You win!" Breathless in her efforts, she slowed to a stop. She was winded, a cough rasping from a dry throat. "I-I'm done playing. This was stupid."
