Four kittens. Three alive. One dead. Pigeonflight knew that the kits weren't supposed to leave the camp yet, but she just had to let him know. Split deserved to know that he was a father. And that her kits were unnamed so far. Other than Streamkit and Floodkit, the other two were usually referred to as "come little one," "stop," "playtime," or even "are you hungry?". They deserved to have names of their own too.
But she was waiting for Split to name them. As a new mother who was already small enough, the warrior constantly switched carrying kit to kit in her mouth, while one would walk, one would be carried by the mouth, and another sometimes riding on her back.
"Now, his name's Split, and he should be around here," she muttered, keeping an eye out on her wandering kit. "Come, come back where you aren't too far from me. Remember that we are at our border." Gently, Pigeonflight settled down with her kittens beside a tree stump, looking into the woods. The stump smelled an awful like the tom, so that means he was here just recent.
"Split, are you there?" she called out, before giving her kittens a cleaning. They had to look presentable for their father.----- ----- ----- ----- ----- Floodkit ran, while stumbling on the greeny below him as he tried to catch up with his family. He did not yet understand why he always felt so far away from them, and every time he would try to wrestle his siblings, nothing would happen. He would never be able to actually touch them, and even if he tried talking to them, they did not seem to hear him. Were they deaf? Was he mute? What was wrong with him?
Death was not something that the young kitten knew. He was told by some cat that he was now safe in Sunclan, but that was not right. That was not true! He was in Mountainclan with his family! Surely there was some mistake. "Mom! There's a big cat around here! I see him! Don't you?" he called out, finally waddling towards the rest of his litter.Ars Naberius just letting you know that Pigeonflight has not yet given a name to the kit! Split will choose Rainkit as a name unless Pidge does first Clover Blossom just letting you know that Pigeonflight has not yet given a name to the kit! It had been some time since Split last saw Pigeonflight but the female warrior was still on his mind. He hated to admit just how much he had thought about her. The duel-coated tom loved his freedom and was fond of his solitude so he didn't want to join a clan but he did want to spend a bit more time with the soft pelted she-cat from the Mountainclan. It was this desire that brought him back to the boarder of the clan. For a few days now he had be lingering close, hoping to catch Pidge on another patrol. Today was no exception, Split had been taking a nap in the shade of a small shrub. Split woke as he heard his name. He recognized the voice instantly and a small smile was visible on his maw for a moment before he rose and moved towards one of the few cats Split could tolerate being around. He caught their scents first but figured it was just lingering smells from her clan. Then he saw them. Split stopped mid step and stared at the sight before him. Pigeonflight and three kittens; one with his dark fur, one with his stripes, one with his split face. His eyes moved from the kittens, to their mother, and back to the kittens again. He stood frozen, nearly unable to comprehend the sight before him. -------------------------------------------------------------- Streamkit rested as her mother carried her by the scruff to meet her father. She had been so excited that she had run laps around her mother and siblings for the first half of the trip to the boarder. When she had tired, her mother had carried her the rest of the way. Once she'd been set down again, Streamkit ran around the stump and climbed up on top of it. She smelled all the scents and attacked random pieces of grass that grew next to the stump. She was just about to turn her pouncing upon her brother or sister when a rustleing noise caught her attention.
When Streamkit turned to look at the cause of the noise, she saw a big, strange furred cat. Her mother had just told her that their fathers name was Split and there was no mistaking this tom cat as any other cat than Split, the name fit him perfectly. Upon seeing him, Streamkit lit up with excitment.
"Your face is like mine!" She squeaked in her small voice and ran over to her sister. "And look! He's got a floppy ear too! Just like yours!" She tenderly nipped at her sisters ear. "Is this him, Mother? Is it Father? It must be! He looks just like Floodkit did!" Streamkit didn't wait for her mother's reply. Instead she just happily ran around playfully pouncing her brother and sister while comparing how all of them looked like the new cat.

Marshkit let out loud mews of protest against being cleaned. It was one of the least things he enjoyed. And it didn't help that his overly excited sister constantly attempted to pounce on him while he was being cleaned. He attempted to batt at her a few times before giving in and letting his mother finish cleaning him.
The sudden rustling noise caused him to look up. There standing before him, his sister and mother was a new face. A new scent. Was this the father that his mother told him they would be meeting today? One half had the same dark fur as his own. The other half had the same fur as his sister. With one floppy ear like his sister has. A part of him was scared of this new figure standing before him. But, he dare not show it. So he puffed out his chest and tried standing on his toes to make himself look big and brave.

Letting her kits run free after their bath, Pigeonflight gave a short sigh of relief when the familiar face revealed itself. Split. However, he seemed frozen? Stuck. Stuck on the sight of her and the kits. The kittens that he did not know about. As much as she wanted him to welcome his family with love and comfort, she didn't know what he was thinking. Would he even accept them as his own? It would be selfish of her to ask him to return to Mountainclan with her; he was proud to be a loner, and in return, she wanted her kittens to know that there was more to the world than just Mountainclan.
She watched as her kittens played with one another, making statements in comparison of their appearance to their father's, looking away slightly at the mention of Floodkit. He should be here too. Streamkit was probably going to be a daddy's girl, and the tom-kit was going to make a fine warrior. "Kits, this is your father." Pigeonflight flashed a smile as the tom-kit tried to make himself look big and brave. 'He would protect his littermates through any situation.'
With her kittens distracted, the warrior approached the tom, nuzzling his shoulder. It was a few weeks since last seeing him, and she missed him. "These are your kittens too, Split," she whispered into his ear. Breaking her embrace from him, she returned to the trio and waited for him to join them. "Would you like to say hello?"
----- ----- ----- ----- -----
Floodkit stared, looking up at the big tom. He looked like Floodkit, other than the stripes. He wanted to join his siblings in the tussle, but chose to just stare. Stare at the stranger. Dad or not, he kept thinking of the cat who said he was in Sunclan. 'If they were right, he would not see me either...'

Rainkit toddled along after her mother, occasionally mewling to be carried or trying to clamber up her side as they walked - they might be on an adventure, but they had been walking for so long. She flopped down when they finally came to a stop, grumbling audibly at being cleaned.
At the appearance father, though, she grew wide-eyed - mirroring his frozen, deer-in-headlights expression exactly. Who was this tom? Her... Father, her mother had said? He didn't smell like the clan, and what kind of a name was Split, was he from another clan - questions swirled around in her mind, but they were quickly pushed aside. She was busy marveling at his stripes - the ones like her own! Like Streamkit's! And the ears - just like Streamkit said! Rainkit occasionally batted a paw at her sister absentmindedly, eyes still transfixed on the tom.

So many thoughts raced through his mind it made him dizzy. He was a father now, he had a family. But what did that mean? What was he supposed to do? How was he supposed to act? Seeing the three kittens healthy and happy gave him a since of joy, relief almost. At the same time however, seeing how different they were from each other, he felt an overwhelming since of dread that one might get picked on. The emotions, thoughts, and worries washed over him as he stood frozen until the touch of Pigeonflight brought him back to his senses. As he watched Pigeonflight return to her kits, Split wondered if he had added to the struggle of her life and given her a new adventure she hadn't wanted. Even if that was the case, Split knew Pigeonflight would do her best with the fate dealt to her. The loner had to remind himself that she also had her clan to help her. With his immediate concern for Pidge finally suppressed, Split's eyes moved to the kittens. " Hello, little ones." There was a slight tremble to his voice but he wore a smile. " What are their names?" He added almost as an afterthought looking back to Pidge. -------------------------------------------------------------- Streamkit finally settled down for a moment as she heard the new cat that was her father speak. As he spoke, Streamkit sat and mewed her greeting back. He seemed nice enough, even if he did smell funny. For a moment the tiny kit sniffed and smelled the air around them. She wanted to remember these smells, her whole family together for the first time.
At his question, Streamkit looked over at her brother and sister. She knew she had a name and that Floodkit was named but the little kit wasn't sure that her brother and sister had been given names yet. Or had her mother said them and she just hadn't heard? Either way she eagerly awaited her mother's answer.

"So YOU are my dad?" The young kit circled the large tom. Eyeing him over before finally being satisfied enough to move away from the tom and sit down next to his mother. He remembers hearing stories of his father and some of the wild adventures he went on. Marshkit always wanted to ask his father about said adventures. Perhaps he would tell more tales of what he was up to. "You must be really brave to wander around without a clan. I bet you got into all kind of trouble and met some two legs. Or their kittypets."
