"Have you heard the rumors about this place?"
It was warm. Lacey was wearing a pair of low cut black jeans and a black tank top that had cris-crossing straps across her chest and back, the majority of which was exposed, the script tattoo visible down her spine. The three inch heels weren't the highest she owned, but they were comfortable, and this at least put her higher than minuscule when beside Fletcher.
She had dragged Fletcher to the bar for a drink - for her, at least - and made him eat actual food before she'd proceeded to tow him back out before he could get into anything. It wasn't so much that she didn't trust him so much as she didn't trust him, and with Malaise back in the house, she was already more irritated and suspicious than she would have been normally.
She didn't carry a purse, but instead was walking down a darkened side street with her black painted nails hooked in the pockets of her jeans, her heels making a clicking sound on the ground with every step. Lacey cast a sideways glance up at Fletcher.
"About the whole there's mysterious s**t happening everywhere ********? Someone was whispering about it at the table next to ours."

Adamantine and Silk spotted the two early on, and mostly Ada watched them because she had been interested. They had a dynamic of two that relied on each other.
Though it seemed the femme fatale of the two was more inclined of their little pairing. She reached up and pet the guardian cat. "Should we say hello to them, Silk?" She didn't smile.
"Do you sense anything of the two though?" She wanted to make sure before she dropped in on the two. If she could ascertain an unawaken, she could call in a general king and corrupt them both. Or just one. But maybe both. endejester Hi, Ada doesn't know u but she will call u @ Zink :'DDDD

It hadn't exactly been the easiest of nights out, sitting in a bar with Lacey sipping a drink in the corner booth beside him, but getting a full meal in him had actually helped with the cravings more than he'd imagined they would have and by the time they'd left he wasn't staring at the dredges of whatever cocktail she'd been drinking melting in the bottom of her glass. And it'd been nice going out again, spending more time out doing normal things. With Mal back in their lives, and things still so damn confusing and just hard taking a break had been well needed. As they walked Fletcher was touching her, a hand resting lightly at the nape of her neck that might to anyone else look vaguely possessive but was well and truly the opposite in their case. Lacey was, quite literally, his touch stone, and if she was close he couldn't really help himself from reaching out to her. "If it's been going on this whole time I'm not sure how I missed it this whole time." Well, he knew how he hadn't noticed after he'd met Mal and after they'd found Lacey and the band had formed. And then also after it'd broken up and he'd been less and less sober. But before that, in college and growing up. He wasn't sure how he hadn't noticed then. "I did run into..something," he frowned as he fought to find a word that worked for the thing he'd run into the other day. "Whatever that thing was." He didn't like talking about it cause the whole thing had scared him in more than one way. Nose wrinkling he shook his head, breath leaving in a rush of a sigh. "And the thing that hurt Mal...I wonder just how much s**t we've missed."

Silk was on his usual perch, being Adamantine's shoulder, his claws lightly digging into her collar to anchor him. He purred softly when his senshi pet him, and leaned a tad to get a good look at the pair that was walking by. Golden eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "You mean tic tac toe and Mopey as ******** who looks like he's using her as a seeing eye dog?" He stared at them intently for a moment, and then gasped, his small body straightening in excitement. "Yeah!" He said, his voice clearly displaying his feelings. "The chick is a senshi who hasn't awakened yet!" There was a slight pause. "Can't read anything on Mopey---so I dunno---maybe he could be an agent? Or even not, he could be youma fodder, yeah?" Golden eyes were now wide with excitement, as he looked up to Adamantine for their next move.

In reality, part of why Lacey had picked a bar in the first place was half because the food was good and half because she'd wanted to see how Fletcher could handle being in that sort of environment. A test, as much as she disliked using that word, and as much as Fletcher probably disliked it, but a necessary one.
His hand on the back of her neck was almost pushing the limits of what she would allow at present, but she let it slide for the time being. Instead, she said, "Well, clearly there's some serious mind ******** happening in this ******** place. Monsters or whatever other s**t this city can pull out of its a**. Your run-in and Mal's mean that we should probably start learning some fighting s**t."
By we she meant Fletcher and Malaise since Lacey could defend herself perfectly fine.

Silk's body rose and he gasped in delight when he mentioned feeling the unawakened senshi. That itself was a joy. She had yet the pleasure of being part of a corruption and even more so, after finding them herself. She didn't know how the General would feel, but she didn't want to lose the opportunity.
"Then we will make them ours, won't we?" She jumped down, gracefully landing in front of the pair and looking them over. Even if it seemed that the man was in control, you couldn't tell when you saw them together. The woman clearly held the sway, even as she saw them closer up and the confidence. She tingled with a feeling of excitement.
"I advise you not to scream." She came over and stuck her hand in Fletcher's chest, her gaze looking to Lacey. Adamantine was anything but finessed in this and to be honest, she didn't want to waste time honeying her words. "My name is Adamantine, and this is Silk." Just so that Lacey understood the importance of what was happening, she squeeze a little on Fletcher's chest, the man would feel a tingle of pain and shortness of breath. "You scream and he dies. Or worst. Don't do anything stupid either. I don't have to let you both live."
A crystal was pulled out and she lifted it up.
"Good evening, General King Zinkenite. This is Corrupt Eternal Adamantine at-" She rattled the cross streets she could see. "I have an unawakened senshi and a civilian. Requesting aid in their corruption to the negaverse." She didn't smile at the two as the crystal was moved.
"I'm going to explain this as it happens, so you understand." She said it almost slowly, with quite the monotone. "You have been recruited. When the General King arrives, I expect a degree of respect for him. If you do...." Her gaze remained locked on Lacey's, "You will be rewarded with power and connections you have never known before." Her gaze flicked to Fletcher, "Power, to do with whatever you want."

There was no arguing that point, there was certainly some ******** up s**t going on in the city and whatever had kept them from being effected by it before wasn't there now. First Mal, then him, he was worried now for Lacey's well being. She was a strong woman, he knew she could take care of herself against a lot, but how did you defend against something that could bend your will like it was nothing? Or was big enough to crush you. His thumb stroked along the back of her neck as that unhappy thought settled over him and couldn't help but glance around as they walked past a narrow side street. "It certainly wouldn't hurt," he agreed, not at all certain he'd be any good at self defense but willing to try. He didn't like feeling helpless. Of course, have no idea what he was doing in a fight didn't keep him from trying to step in front of Lacey when a figure in dark blues and with silver hair landed abruptly on the sidewalk in front of them. He had a hand on her arm, but froze he felt a sudden and intense pressure deep in his chest and looked down to see her hand had sunk inside him. Baby blues were wide and he lifted his gaze back to the woman as she introduced herself and the black cat perched on her shoulder. Then he felt her hand squeeze and it caught his breath in his throat as a broken groan, sent pain in a rush through his entire body. A crystal was produced in her other hand that she spoke into with a calm, level voice after delivering a threat to his life in the same manner. "La-cey...run..." Fletch didn't know what was about to happen, but he had to die to keep the drummer safe...

" Yeah." His little heart was thrumming with anticipation as Adamantine soared. Well practiced at moving with his senshi by now, claws only dug in as much as he needed to keep himself stable, and luckily long past the point of digging into the woman. Upon landing and confronting the pair, golden eyes were brimming with smug satisfaction as Adamantine wasted no time in getting down to business. Her methods were flawless, and it made him swell with awe and pride. The kitten stood poised on the senshi's shoulder, eyeing the hand in Fletcher's chest with appreciation. He then walked along the back of the woman's shoulders, slinking around the back of her neck to stand on her other shoulder, so that he could get a better look at Lacey. "Mopey as ******** here may say run, Tic Tac Toe---" That was Lacey, "But that'd be the dumb a** move, because he's definitely dead if we have to chase you down." Silk walked along the back of Adamantine's shoulders again to perch on the shoulder closest to Fletcher. With a balance that only belong to a feline, Silk walked down Adamantine's arm, right up until he was at Fletcher's chest. Golden eyes creased with smugness as he looked up at the man. "Better hope you turn out to be an Agent, because if not, monster chow will be the only thing you're good for." He turned, walking back up his senshi's arm until he was perched on her shoulder. He was eager for the arrival of the General King.

He came like a trick of the light, one moment absent, the next, well he might have been there all along, A man in a long dark coat stepping into view as though he had simply walked out of the half dark of a city twilight. He cast a brief glance at Silk, with a small nod trusting the feline to help mask his signature on the off chance that they might have Royal Interruptions of a more loquacious and ‘orderly’ nature. “Good Evening.” He said as though this were the most natural situation in the world, to find oneself with a hand through a friend’s chest, being informed that recruitment was eminent. “I do apologize for the rather abrupt introductions, but at least one of you we absolutely can’t allow to be found by anyone else.” He shook his head, what was readable of his expression was grave. “We’re fighting for the good of the world after all.” He spread his hands, punctuating the statement with the gesture though one of them, glinted silver in the street lights. “I hope this will be as painless as possible. Though, I do believe that to be granted power without pain, is to take it for granted.”

She was a strong, well built woman who was neither a stick, nor a ditz. Lacey had grown up learning that the only way to get anything done was to do it herself, and so she had taught herself to be strong because life had not given her any other options. It was either grow to be able to handle yourself, or let the world drag you down, and she was not the sort to ever let the latter of these be viable.
Fletcher's fingers were gentle on her neck, though she knew it was because of an attempt to reassure himself, not her. Lacey opened her mouth.
Whatever response she'd been about to say would never get spoken. A woman had leapt nimbly out of the darkness, landing in a flutter of blue and silver in front of them, and before Lacey could do more than say "What the <******** -" she'd sunk her hand into Fletcher's chest.
He was not dead. That much she could see immediately, beyond the initial stunned realization that some b***h had her hand in Fletcher's chest and that should be an impossible thing, except that she knew it wasn't, because she could see it, and because both Fletcher and Malaise had talked about being attacked by monsters.
But there was no blood. No crack of ribs being splintered apart. Only a pale faced, flat toned woman with a little black cat on her shoulder, and Fletcher gasping out a sound of pain that rattled Lacey's bones, nerve endings feeling as though they were fraying.
"Okay, hold on one second here, Poprocks," Lacey said, "I'm not a ******** coward. I don't run from anyone, even if they do look like they just waltzed right out of a weird a** trippy version of Bewitched." The cat - the talking cat - on the woman's shoulder was given a pointed look. "That means you, Salem wannabe."
The woman was given an appraising look. If Fletcher knew Lacey well enough, he would know she wasn't the type to run, and as it was, she reached out and gave his hand a squeeze, fingers lacing together, though she kept her gaze on the woman.
"You said power and some s**t?" she asked, head tilting. "I could do with a bit of that. What say you, Fletcher?"
Her eyes, steady and calm, met his eyes at length. There was a fluttering sound, and then a man with dark blue hair appeared somewhere behind them, footsteps announcing his presence as he stepped closer. He too was given a scrutinizing sort of look, Lacey's expression calculating.
"I can deal with pain," she said dismissively. "I don't care. And anyway, as long as you don't rip out my guy's heart here, I'm down for whatever, especially if it means I get to have power and whatever connections you were talking about."
Fletcher's hand was given another squeeze. It said trust me without words, because she had never given up on them, ever, and he would know that.

"I advise not to be stupid." She said again, though her gaze had left Lacey's to look at Fletcher's. "If she runs, you and she both die and to be honest, that's not the most ideal situation....now is it?" She didn't squeeze again but her voice spoke to the straightforwardness.
As the general king came, his aura was like an overwhelming heavy blanket. IT was comforting but close to almost smothering and she gestured to Silk. "If you will Silk." It meant that he would have to focus for a bit.
"Adamantine." She corrected the woman, "and Silk. I'd be careful." It was almost as much of a serious threat as the woman was willing to give. "Insulting either of us doesn't prove your worth." She twisted her hand in Fletcher's chest as a reminder but since Lacey made agreements quickly, and with an almost hungry look in her eyes.
Her hand retreated from Fletcher's chest, allowing the man some semblance of peace.
"Then make it easy for the General King." She crossed her arms, standing away from the man. She had no ability to corrupt. "Silk, if you would make her pen. I know it's a lot to ask while you are masking as well." she booped the kitten on the nose with as much affection as Ada was willing to give. "I believe in you, my guardian." To Zinkenite, she nodded.
"I am at your disposable, General King. Whatever you need."

He could hardly breath, like some great force had settled around his chest and with each too quick exhale the vice tightened. An almost familiar sense of suffocation that sent his mind reeling back to the brief chaotic snippets of consciousness he could remember from his night in the emergency room when they'd had to shove a tube down his throat because he'd stopped breathing. What he could remember of that night was terrifying but he honestly couldn't remember that much. But he was wide awake this time and it was impossible for the bassist not to assume the worst. Not with the cat strutting up the length of the woman's arm to taunt, and not with the way those slender fingers tore a scream from the man's throat with only the slightest squeeze of those delicate little fingers. There was another voice there, but Fletcher didn't see the source where he stood behind him. He felt him. Strength of will or something else entirely, even if he'd never spoken Fletcher would have known he was there, hand in his chest or not. The weight of his regard on his back carried literal weight that lifted the hairs on the nape of his neck. He was grateful when Lacey's hand found his, and he squeezed her hand back as their finger's laced. From his perspective it really didn't look like they had much of choice, at least not for him. Submit or die seemed the hang in the air unspoken but implied, and hadn't that cat just referred to him as monster bait? The woman, Adamantine withdrew her hand finally as Lacey gave what sounded like consent and Fletcher sagged on his feet as that awful pressure pain mix finally lifted. His free hand snapped up to press over his chest as he pulled in grateful lungfuls of air to catch his breath, baby blues watching the woman warily. Then the man at their backs with a quick turn of his head. He wanted to ask them what exactly it all meant, being recruited as they'd called it, but Lacey's hand gripping his tightly brought his gaze back down to her. She'd already consented, and he couldn't let her do this alone. Besides, what choice did he really have? She'd have killed him if he died on her again. "Okay."

The man referred to as Zinkenite gave a polite nod, watching the steps of the conversation as it moved back and forth. “Thank you Adamantine, you and Silk have done an excellent job. The Senshi first perhaps, since you have things, well in hand otherwise.” He nodded briefly to the young woman. “Lacey is it? Allow me to be the first to welcome you. We shall explain very soon, but I’d like to do it for both of you at once, is that alright?” He reached out a hand towards her, and like had happened with Fletcher’s chest, his hand went right through hers, and found –something- inside, closing around it. “I will be as gently as possible, but let’s see what secrets were hidden even from you, hmm?” He called up chaos, pulling it from the deep well that powered him as well. lucy@l SORRY! Silk got to work covering the General King's powerful aura as soon as Zinkenite's pulsed, but if he could have saluted the man, he would have. Instead, he gave the General King a firm and solid nod, chest welling up with a mixture of awe because how cool was this General King!? He was bad a** and he was like a ninja. Also, like his senshi, he wasted no time getting down to business, which really just shot the man up even more in his books. Despite focusing, Silk always had time to be snarky. "I'm no Salem wannabe, Short Stack." He sneered at Lacey. " He's not real, is he?" To Adamantine, the Guardian gave a firm nod as well. "Yeah---pen after---" Silk blinked when his nose was booped, starting a bit and if he could have blushed, he would have. Because like--- not in front of the General King. He was trying to be all cool and stuff. It was hard to be cool when his snoot was booped. But the embarrassment was over quickly---after all, his ego was soaring as everything was coming together, and the praise from Zinkenite was the icing on the cake. endejester THAT'S OK <3 More goodness to respond to : D

Lacey held up one of her hands in a gesture of submission that was clearly woah there buddy calm down except not actually said, her eyebrows raising. "All right, all right," she said. "My bad. I'm willing to go along with whatever you've got planned for us, I'm good with that."
The sound of Fletcher's small scream was still ringing in Lacey's ears. She was shutting it away in a box, her mind already shifting it to a place where she could settle it where it wouldn't hurt her, where it wouldn't make her skin crawl with the fear of it. She was not exactly afraid, but she was not exactly comfortable, either. And keeping Fletcher alive was at the forefront of her priorities.
His fingers were curling around hers. She turned her head towards him, her expression calm and cool and collected, a smile curving her lips upwards. It was a smile that said, with acid precision and cold decisiveness, I've got this under control. Everything is fine.
The cat was given the same amount of an icy smile, but it was more calculating than reassuring for him. She would have blown him a kiss, just to be more sassy about it, but something told her that to do so would be to incite Princess Sparkledress's wrath, so she refrained. Besides, the calm and icy exterior of the other woman - Adamantine, she'd said - actually sort of intrigued Lacey, in spite of the situation. Clearly she had stories to tell.
The man with the mask - what had they called him? Zinkenite, that was it - was stepping towards her. Lacey lifted her head to meet his eyes, though the heels gave her almost enough height to be the same as him. There was nothing afraid or anxious in her gaze.
"Give me what you've got, Blue," she said serenely. "I can take it."
It did hurt - it hurt a lot, but there was no crying, no screaming, and hardly any indication at all of pain except for the gritted teeth, and the way Lacey's head fell back. Blackness shivered through her, curling from her chest and expanding outwards, searing through her veins, and she kept her fingers with Fletcher's, holding onto that familiarity, focusing on that above all else.
And then, at last, it was done.
All in all, she thought, as she opened indigo eyes, it was worth it in the end.
