As a page of Neptune, Abalus simply had an affinity for all things water, he soon discovered. Whether it was water dripping from a leaky faucet to the soft splash of waves against a pool’s edge, he found himself stopping and staring as if transfixed by the workings of it all. His first attempt of controlling water came up moot, but that didn’t stop the page from thinking that he did have powers beyond simply jumping high and speedy healing.

When focusing on the water of a closed pool proved fruitless, he moved onto something bigger—namely, the ocean itself. The salty-sweet tang of the docks hit his nose with a slight sting, making the eighteen year old scrunch up his nose. Abalus had always been sensitive to strong scents, but the pungent scent of the sea was another entirely. It both repulsed and drew him in, and on a late night such as then and lack of desire to go home, there was only one way to go.

Like before, Abalus plopped himself down near a pier and furrowed a brow at the water, mind dipping into a deep concentration not unlike when he painted. He sat like this for a good fifteen to twenty minutes before huffing in disappointment. Shifting back, he leaned on his palm as he considered the glittering night’s sky.

Okay, maybe the other knights I met were right, I don’t have super water powers like I hoped,” he muttered aloud. “But what’s the use of things if I can’t, well, fight?” He summoned his small, silver flute and turned it about in his hand. “I can barely poke a person’s eye out with this, let alone play it.” The flute gave a shrill whistle as he blew into it. “Thanks for the useless weapon, powers that be! I really appreciate it! …Not.

"'Useless' is a point of view," came a voice from behind the page. Siegfried had watched him for the last several minutes in mild amusement, watching him attempt to control the water in the ocean. Siegfried himself was not the best person to ask about magic, but he knew one thing: Neptune knights couldn't waterbend. (He'd found that out himself, much to his dismay, while in the shower.) He was a tall man, with long blue hair tied back with a thin cord, and looked like he should be part of the Navy instead of a Knight of Neptune.

"We can't control water, but that flute will turn into something that will help you later on. Perhaps not in the way you think, though. I do recommend stabbing people in the eye though. Very effective," he said with a soft chuckle and smile. It wasn't often Siegy was out without Albireo, but he was trying to trust she wouldn't get herself hurt - or worse - and he needed to talk with his fellow Neptune knights. Given he seemed to be the only one of knight rank among the bunch...

"Siegfried, Knight of Neptune." He held out his hand as he introduced himself.

Abalus was so caught up in his own qualms that he lacked the foresight to even sense the blaring power signature behind him. It was Siegfried’s voice that had him jolting to his feet; backpedaling a step as he brandished his little flute in a threatening, but certainly not intimidating, manner. It was only registration of the familiar shade of blue and the fact he almost took a dive that he reeled himself back onto the dock for balance.

G-good to know,” Abalus said, straightening upright and taking two large steps away from the edge. “Almost used your good advice against you. …Sorry about that.” Abalus rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.

His intense desire to cheer on the fact he was in the company of another Neptune knight, whooooa! was pushed down in exchange for an introduction. “Abalus,” he replied, giving Siegfried’s hand a firm shake. “…Page of Neptune. I’m guessing you’re like my senior, huh?

"Good instincts," he said, shaking the hand given. Abalus was a little shaken, but anyone would be if you suddenly started talking behind them. Siegfried needed to remind himself not to sneak up on people. He could kill someone simply from the scare. Or get an eye stabbed out, as evident here.

So this was a page of Neptune, one of his... brethern he guessed? He didn't actually know how that worked, all things considered. Was he responsible for the Neptune knights that weren't his power level yet? Did he have to train them up and mentor them and---

Siegfried could barely remember to shower somedays let alone go to work, how could he manage the ranks of his own order?!

He decided to deal with that. Later.

"So, Abalus, how long have you been a Page of Neptune?" he asked, settling against one of the pillars on the dock.

The compliment had Abalus rubbing the back of his neck a bit in embarrassment, though he felt it unwarranted. Still, he tried to cling to the good—maybe he had some fight in him, after all! The page didn’t have much confidence when it came to well, anything, to this new half of his life, but he wasn’t going to deny anyone telling him he had potential.

His mirth was choked when Siegfried asked him how long he’d been a knight. “Uh, well,” he began, averting his eyes to the sea beyond. The waves lapped uneasily at the side of the dock even with the lack of wind. “It’s been about a week? Two weeks tops? Not very long, to be frank. I’ve been trying to feel my way along and get as much information as I can, but everything is still a little grey.

Siegfried's eyebrows shot into his hair for a moment. Two weeks? Such a new page... shouldn't Siegfried have known about new recruits into his order? ...How did pages come about, he wondered? He knew some of how he'd come to be - Cosmos had saved him from a much darker path - but he'd already been a knight when he came into existance. Granted, he'd sort of avoided his knighthood for a while afterwards but two weeks?

"So new... I should really look into something that lets me, I don't know, know when you guys pop up..." he said, scratching his cheek. He'd been thankful to have a sort of mandatory meeting with other knights to get him up to speed, but those hadn't happened in a long while now.

"Might be able to clear some of the confusion. Whacha wanna know?" Siegfried smiled at Abalus, welcoming any and all questions as to knighthood and the war. He'd answer as best he could, given the lack of memories on his end.

Abalus rubbed the back of his neck. He couldn’t help but share in the sheepish feeling of the moment, especially when he felt like a kitten before a lion. There was definitely a difference in power level, but not just in the feel of Siegfried’s energy signature, but also through lack of information. After all, knowledge is power and all that, blah blah…

That’d be super convenient, to be honest,” Abalus said with a small smile. “Or even better, if a knight isn’t around, a magical Wikipedia page that debriefs everything you need to know about knighthood. Would make this so much easier.” The page had said this in jest, but there was a hint of seriousness in his tone. “The Code should get on that, pronto.

He faltered a bit upon mentioning the Code, adding, “Well, I know a little… Another Neptune knight, Pendour—have you heard of her?—gave me a brief primer on knighthood, the Code, and the war. So, I have a good foundation. Though I am curious: Wonders. How do those work? Can we really go to Neptune to see them? What’s it like in space?

The talk of space seemed to set off something in Abalus, sending a rapid-fire spray of questions at Siegfried. It appeared to be a topic he was excited about considering how his eyes sparkled.

Siegfried shook his head. He didn't actually... know the other Neptune knights, he realized with a bit of a start. In fact, Abalus was the first one he'd met since he'd been saved from the jaws of Chaos. That was sobering. Sieg pushed hair out of his face and he chuckled at the sparkle in the page's eyes.

"We really do to Neptune to see them. From my experience you can breathe and there is gravity and all that jazz. Your wonder is probably... empty though. Mine was. Also Neptune has a lot of water, so there's probably a chance your wonder is... under the ocean? Mine wasn't, but I have a rather particular traveling island." It was true, his island had been empty of people and life, but it had existence and brought him a certain sort of joy knowing that it had existence at all.

That he'd had a place in the universe that Chaos had not destroyed.

The rapid fire questions Abalus gave him just made him chuckle and smile at the page. To have that level of curiousity about the war and the worlds.... Siegfried assumed he had that at one point. Maybe. Not that he could remember.
