Pendour liked the way her silky ballgown felt in the warmer weather, and she liked the way that if she focused, she thought that she could feel the starlight on her skin. She could not feel the call of Neptune, on the other hand. Today was not going to be a day to go up and try to breathe a little light into her wonder. Today she would spend in the city.

There was a war going on, after all. Pendour knew that all too well, and although she had spend months running from the briefest tinge of a Chaos aura after the half-man had taken her eye, she knew that it was a problem she could not ignore forever. There were people doing terrible things, people who were sick who she could maybe help if she learned how a little better. It was a problem she could not ignore tonight, apparently, as a dark as dark aura tugged at the edge of her senses.

She was in a park. She liked the green of them, even if they tended to attract activity. She took a moment to close her eyes and focus. She was getting a little better at telling the auras apart. This one wasn't so strong. It could still be dangerous, but at least it was not a general.

There was still a moment when she wanted to run, but she decided against it. She found a bench instead, to sit cross-legged on and wait, to not run but not walk towards danger, either.

Tonight Versailles had to be on the lookout for anyone he could drain energy from. At some point the task became a bit boring. Most of the time any Order that seemed to be around either couldn't feel his aura or weren't willing to fight. What was the point of them anyway if they refused to do anything? He could hardly call them a threat.

And tonight seemed to be one of those nights as he suddenly felt the p***k of an Order aura in his mind. They weren't too dangerous though, and as he continued to walk, he could tell that they most likely weren't moving. Versailles didn't mind these types of encounters, after all, he hardly had any battling experience himself and he didn't like fighting, but it still seemed a bit... disappointing?

Eventually he spotted... the page? As they were sitting on a bench. It had to be her, no one else would be wearing an outfit like that without being a powered person somehow. He slowly made his way over and waved at her with a smile when he managed to catch her eye. When he was close enough to speak to her, he tried to make some light conversation. "Enjoying the weather? I for one am glad that it's finally warmed up. Winter was taking way too long to leave." Wasn't March supposed to be a spring month anyway?

She was starting to learn where the point was with auras when it meant that the person was right next to her. There were footsteps, too, to go along with it, and then even those footsteps stopped. It took her longer to actually see him. He had come up on her blind side, and there was a moment when her fear response kicked in at the heavy-dark aura being so close, and she froze.

When she did turn towards him, she turned slowly, and then took a long moment to take in his dark clothes, his words that were gentle enough for now. Her eye lingered on the crack in his forehead, the mark of the disease that had broken him. She did not comment on it, as she'd found people did not like being called broken, but she did not pretend to be comfortable with it either.

"The warmer weather is lovely," she said carefully, her voice soft and sweet. "Is that what brings you out?"

Maybe if she made fewer assumptions about people in black at first sight, it would help things not to escalate as they had in the past. She even smiled softly, then, like she would at any stranger.

It seemed that Versailles had startled her, though he could only guess since she hadn't been looking his way when he came up to her. Of course it would startle anyone to suddenly be addressed when they couldn't see the person addressing them.

He 'hmmed' as he thought about her question. He could lie about it, but he did come out partly for the warm weather it would be at least partly true, but he knew not to beat around the bush. The both of them knew who the other was, or at least what side they were on. "Yes, it's a lovely night. Though I do have... other reasons. But I used to take frequent walks under the night sky when it was nice out before I was... changed." It had been sudden of course, and he had known nothing about the magical side of things until afterwards.

"Of course... now I have to go out like this just to protect myself. Though I guess it also leaves me open to other dangers too." He sighed wistfully. He did miss just being a regular human. He didn't mind the Negaverse, but he would have been perfectly happy without it existing either.

"Are you enjoying the night out too? I suppose you're in somewhat of the same situation I'm in if you're powered right now but sitting there. I can't say I blame you." His voice had no ill will or any hint that he would hurt her. It had more empathy than anything else. As though he were trying to say, 'why can't we just enjoy this weather for what it is'?

Just the two words other reasons, even delivered sweetly as could be, made something crawl just under Pendour's skin. She pressed her lips together to try to get the sensation of it to go away. It only partly worked. Still, she nodded, if only to buy time to think on her next words.

"The weather is what brings me out, and the stars," she said, her voice gentle but with a carefulness to it. "I like being able to feel auras, though. I've been drawn, lately, to anything that makes me feel less blind." She met his gaze squarely, then, not hiding the scars around her prosthetic eye, allowing him to fill in the blanks if he wanted to. If he was truly new, he deserved to see what the Negaverse did to people.

"Is it okay if I ask you a question?" There was another pause then, but not such a long one. "What do you feel the need to protect yourself from?" Was it senshi and knights, letting the power get to them, or was it the Negaverse itself? Either way, it was something she wanted to help with if she could. Nobody deserved fear.

She was quiet after that, careful not to be to overbearing even in her desire to help, careful about everything. All her spare energy went into fiddling with the charms on her bracelet, instead.

Versailles couldn't quite understand what the page had been talking about, until she showed him her eye. His first reaction was to jump back in surprise, but he managed to keep himself steady. Clearly she had been hurt. By whom and when, he didn't know. Though he wasn't surprised. This was a battle after all. People died in battles. It was something he had to remember, though he did try to push it to the back of his mind. He believed that most agents did. Otherwise it would consume him.

He nodded and said, "Well, it isn't anything too terrible. It's just, I have been attacked out here before when others have sensed my aura, whether it's been Order or Dark Mirror characters. And I know that the Negaverse... can't really distinguish when someone isn't powered." He basically admitted that he could be a target by his own Faction.

He had wondered about that for a while. Was there no way to warn the others who they were in the world? He had even heard of agents being attacked when they were caught up in energy-draining events.

Could he admit that he wanted to stay purely for the power though? He didn't care what they did, but they had promised him more power than what Order would have offered, so they said. Though he couldn't help but admire the other side a bit. They didn't have anyone to report to unlike agents in the Negaverse. Ah well, it was something he was still thinking about.

"But, I don't think we have to be fighting all the time either." After all, he was just energy draining most of the time, and he did go after the more... undesirables such as thieves and whatnot. Humanity was a bit of a plague on the planet. Though he supposed that there would always have to be a dominant species ruining the planet for their own short gain.

Pendour was very aware of the way that the senshi jumped, and she tensed up a little in turn, still not always sure how to handle people's reactions. "I'm sorry," she murmured very softly before turning her head strategically to the side, "I didn't mean to startle you."

It made it harder to see his face when he talked about his own experiences in the city at night, but his words were clear enough and she nodded. "I do have friends who will turn to violence when they see people from the Negaverse hurting others," she said. Her voice was still mild and sounded more sad than anything. There were people making enemies of each other every night, and people who thought fighting enough would help somehow. Thinking about it too much made something heavy form in Pendour's throat.

"But that would be when you're like this," she added. The Negaverse would be the threat at other times, and he seemed to know that. "I'm sorry you feel like participating in a war is what will make you safest."

She smiled the the smallest bit when he said they might not always have to fight, and she looked partially back towards him. "Well, maybe for tonight we can be safe. I don't like Chaos," she said that part carefully, keeping her eye on him, "Um, the force of it? But the last thing I want is to hurt any people."

Versailles felt guilty for jumping. Though he couldn't help but think that she had hidden it a bit on purpose. Not in a malicious way, but in a "don't want this to be the first thing they see way." Especially since she tensed at his reaction. It must have been from an agent then. "It's... understandable." He replied, knowing that the other side had plenty of reason to attack without asking. That was what wars were about after all.

It was only the unwilling participants in the middle who were usually caught. He wasn't sure how Order Senshi were awakened, but he did wonder about the process. And knights too. Those in the Negaverse were awakened by Generals or Genera-Kings and Chaos Guardians. So, what happened on the other side where there seemed to be... no such structure. Would it be better to be awakened that way? Whatever it was?

But was it still the right place to awaken though? He didn't know. He just knew that there could be violence on both sides, though those in the Negaverse were the instigators most of the time.

"I'm not sure if I would have preferred to be kept ignorant or not of such things. I still feel as though it doesn't explain everything. So would have been a regular human have been better? Sometimes I think it would have been. I was recruited though. I'm assuming you knights... aren't though." He was curious, so curious. But if she wasn't willing to say, then he couldn't force her. Or he could try, but that would be very dumb to do and it would cause a fight for no reason.

He nodded. She had every reason not to like Chaos and he wouldn't be arguing with her there. He was still basic. He wasn't sure how he felt about either side as of yet. "I think tonight we can take a break from fighting." He agreed, giving her a genuine smile. He didn't have to collect energy tonight. He could always do it the next night.

Recruited? That brought a specific image to mind, one of cheery, brightly lit offices plastered with propaganda posters, like the ones she'd mostly seen in movies about World War II. It didn't seem impossible, especially since she'd heard from Gevaudan that the Negaverse used all the textbook military trickery to keep people willing to kill and die. Still, it didn't match up quite right with what she'd seen, herself, of the war, which mostly took place in dark parks and dirty street corners. That led to another, less pleasant thought.

She folded her hands in her lap. "Did you have a choice?"

She didn't mind talking about knighthood, something that she'd come to love so deeply in such a short time. A smile spread across her face when she spoke, then. "I wasn't recruited, no. I inherited my knighthood" She rubbed a thumb over the symbol on her bracelet. "My ancestor was the last Knight of Pendour, and when I was in danger, the magic awoke in me. Then, it was up to me to explore and learn and decide if I wanted to swear myself to Neptune."

For her, the inheritance was a complicated subject, but it still hadn't taken her long to fall in love with her planet, or to feel loyalty to it. It was beautiful and it had saved her life, and it had yet to demand anything of her that she wasn't willing to give.

Versailles gave the other a wry smile. "I suppose I had a choice, though the other option wouldn't have ended... well." Though he was sure that he would have just been knocked out and his memory taken, but he still wasn't sure how the General-King that had "corrupted" him acted. He had only seen the man once after all.

An eyebrow rose on his face though at the mention of inheriting her knighthood. "That sounds interesting." He thought he had heard something about past lives or had read about it somewhere in the database, but perhaps he had just skipped over it? Either way it would be something to go back and look up if he could. Or he could try to have another conversation with someone in the Order who was willing to talk.

"Certainly more fascinating than what I went through. I would love to see it in action at some point. Though I doubt that will ever happen." He was murmuring to himself now, not really caring if the knight heard him or not.

"I can't say I dislike where I am right now, but your way sounds intriguing. It's... too bad that we're on opposite sides." He really did wonder if the Negaverse did have anything for him. Sure, they had the Negaspace which allowed him to get away from his mother for a while, but he could never stay for long. Apparently it was too dangerous for just a basic senshi. And it was hard to get to considering that he had to bum a ride with a captain or someone of higher authority to get there.

"Do you... get to see Neptune at all? I would think it would be strange to not even be able to visit a planet that you have sworn allegiance to." Curiosity was getting the better of him. It was dangerous. Or dangerous in the sense that it sounded exciting to him, and he almost started to believe that perhaps being a corrupt wasn't the best thing...

Pendour nodded at the I suppose, choosing not to say anything further on the subject but letting the sympathy and concern stay in her eyes, in the way her brows pressed together just a little. It was true that she knew there was always a choice, and she knew the choice that she, herself, would make in that situation, but she also knew that the price of refusal would be high.

She wondered if he knew that accepting had a price, too. Maybe she should tell him?

Or maybe there was a gentler way.

"The first time of all wasn't so different than the other times," she said. "I was just more confused. Learning about my ancestor and the oath came later."

Thinking about Neptune was easier and brought a gentle smile to her face. She went ahead and summoned her ocarina to her hand, to rub her thumb across its surface as she talked. "I can go there, yes. There's a corner of it under my protection, a cove and a garden."

She looked at him straight-on again, her expression the brightest it had been yet. "It's all ruined, but I'm working to fix it. I planted some seeds, already."

There was a slight pause, a hesitation, almost. Then she said, "You're a senshi, aren't you?" She thought she could feel it in his aura, the way it sparkled, even darkly. "So you should have a world all of your own." The concern flickered back into her good eye. "Does the Negaverse let you see it?"

Versailles listened to her. It did sound like it would be quite confusing. It had been for him too, but he wondered if she had the guidance like he did. Sure, he didn't have much, but at least he was given directions. It sounded as though Knights and Order Senshi may not have had that luxury.

He wanted to see what it was like, her own little "corner", but knew he could not ask. Not only would it be rude, but she would most likely reject him and they were... enemies. He shook his head at her question. "No... since I'm corrupt I... don't have access to it." He had been told as much. And from what he could tell within the Negaverse, while the corrupt Senshi were more welcomed that they had been, they seemed to be... at a disadvantage compared to the agents. As though there was no real benefit to being a "corrupt" Senshi, other than working for the Negaverse.

He wondered what his "world" would have looked like. He imagined it was part of his sphere, Splendor. It didn't sound like it would be full of nature, something that he was greatly interested considering his majors that he was working on at the moment, even if he was only a freshman. "If possible, I would like to see it someday, but if it's ruined... I'm not sure if I would want to go back. I would rather see it in it's full glory, you know?" Chuckling to himself he shook his head. "You're making me start to regret my decision to join." Not that he really had a choice. But... could he have a choice now?

It was so bittersweet, the way he seemed interested in space. When he said he was cut off from it, Pendour made a small, sad sound. There were a lot of tragedies when it came to Chaos. She knew how it broke things, broke its own people and anyone else they came in contact with. Breaking the tie between a senshi and their world was a different level, though. It was more insidious, something people might not even notice, but Pendour saw it, and it sat heavy on her heart.

"It can be sad to see the places all abandoned," she said steadily, not wanting to oversell things, "But they like having their people around. The magic will start to come back, if you spend time there. For me, the irrigation pipes have already turned on in my garden."

Part of her really did want to whisk him up to her wonder so that she could show him. The enemy label wasn't stopping her. As short as their conversation had been, she didn't feel afraid of him, now. It was more that she was sure her ancestor would use anything he could still do to kill him.

Pendour smiled gently, instead. "And there are people who could help you fix things, could help you rebuild. I would."

It would be an honor.

There was a slight pause, a hesitation, before she added, "If you do truly want to leave the Negaverse, there is a way out." She knew not everyone wanted to hear that, but he seemed interested.

"So... they can be re-built? I assume that it's only the homeworld and not the people within it though. But it would be interesting to have seen what it was like." He said, a bit sadly. He did wonder how it all worked. Was one's prescence enough? Did they have to bring things from Earth to be able to start to work on their homeworlds again?

"That's a very nice offer." He said, sincere about thanking her. "There is?" He tried not to put too much excitement in his voice. He was still thinking all of this over, and while he did want to know what the way was, he couldn't say he was ready to dive right into it. "If you want you can tell me. But if you think that's too much information, then that's fine. Perhaps when I am... more willing, I could try to find you again? And then I could ask?" He didn't want to get in trouble if someone that he couldn't sense was nearby, nor did he want to make the Page a target, just in case.

Just because they were at war, didn't mean that the "soldiers" weren't individuals.

"No, not the people," she said, deciding to keep things simpler for the time being, to not bring up souls and reincarnation. "But with some work, people might be able to live there again."

It would be nice, she thought, to give people a safe haven, away from all the conflict.

That was just a wish, though, with her cove still dry as dry and her wonder crumbling around the edges. The boy in front of her was more concrete, and she watched, gentle but wary, as he took the news that there was a way out.

Maybe he was wary, too. He was careful, at least, but he didn't snap at the question and attack, which let some of the heaviness out of her heart. When he said he might be willing in the future, her heart went the other way and nearly soared.

"I don't think it's a secret to the Negaverse," she said. The wolf-General had known, but it seemed they hadn't told this senshi they had yet to groom. "You deserve to know, whatever path you choose. All I know, anyway, is that you need someone strong, someone Royal." Her smile, small and soft, remained.

"I'll find the details, for myself and maybe for you," she said, "And I'll be around, if I can."

She could make a point to visit this place again.
