MISSION 001 - DOWNTOWN WITZEND

    Recon Day Mission 001

Location: Shopping District of Downtown Witzend, England

Debriefing: There have been reports of senshi sightings in downtown Witzend. At first, it's only one or two reports but as the numbers increase, the activity calls for action.

This is a recon mission, your job is to blend in and collect information on potential senshi threats.

Requirements: 2-4 Agents, must be in civilian guises for stealth.

There are no rank restrictions for this mission.

♠️STEP ONE:
You arrive downtown.

It's the middle of the day, with the streets packed with civilians. Shops line the streets and various carts are stationed along sidewalks. There is no vehicle traffic, everyone is on foot and the streets are too narrow for cars.

People chatter at you in various languages, but once they recognize that you're foreigners, they switch to English.

Your instructions are to observe, to see if you can spot the rumored senshi, or, failing that, to gather information regarding the rogue senshi group.

Quote:
All players roll 1d6.

  • 1 - You survey the cart vendors, gazing over their wares while trying to listen in on conversations. Quote Nuxaz for overheard hushed conversation.

  • 2 - You run into someone, knocking whatever they're holding out of their hand. They're angry and cause a scene. People around you become suspicious and wary of you. You find that no matter what you do, someone is always watching and there's a concerning amount of attention your way. (You may only roll 1d4 in the next step due to the increased suspicion and distrust thrown your way.)

  • 3 - You decide to grab an outdoor seat at one of the cafe's that lines the street. It gives you a prime view of the area and you use this to your advantage to familiarize yourself with the area better. (Once, you may roll 2d100 when teleporting after entering step 4 and take the number that provides a more positive action.)

  • 4 - You come across a flyer on a nearby community bulletin board. There's an image attached that seems to match the description of the purported senshi. Lucky you! You pull the flyer down and tuck it into a pocket. (Please generate numbers 3-6 for the next step as you have a better visual for the target you're seeking!)

  • 5 - Stopping at a news stand, you pick up a paper to browse because the headline appears to relate to the sudden attacks within the city. You're unable to read the whole article but one blurb stands out and you file it away for later before something distracts you. Quote Nuxaz for a snippet.

  • 6 - You find yourself a nice wall to casually lean against and 'browse' your phone. People pass by you and pay little to no notice. You blend right in.

♠️STEP TWO:

So far things have been quiet but everyone is doing their due diligence when it comes to this recon mission. Everyone moves from their current position to continue trying to gather information.

Each player rolls 1d6.

    Quote:
  • 1 - You enter a nearby cafe because you think that you've spotted someone that fits the description you're watching for. Unfortunately, you find yourself shoved forward until the door is out of reach. To your dismay, you are now stuck in the cafe! (Please skip the next step and wait for further instruction.)

  • 2 - Someone notices that you're eavesdropping and turns on you. It's pretty clear that you're about to get an earful and people are starting to stare. Quote Nuxaz for civilian interaction.

  • 3 - You're tailing someone, but a crowd of people suddenly emerge from one of the nearby shops and knock into you. You lose sight of the person you're following and you struggle to get past the crowd.

  • 4 - Choosing to move from your current location, you walk down the street and pass by someone who almost matches the description. Reacting, you grab their wrist. Quote Nuxaz for interaction.

  • 5 - You happen upon someone who appears chatty. You start to casually ask them questions about the city and the strange happenings going on in the city. Quote Nuxaz for civilian interaction.

  • 6 - If you didn't know any better, you'd say that you spotted a white cat with a star on it's forehead. Considering there are not white mauvians on this mission with you, your suspicion has been spiked. You travel to the alley it disappeared down and spot someone with a familiar looking bow on their backside before they turn the corner and disappear from sight. (If you rolled a 6, please be the one who rolls for the next stage.)

  • ♠️STEP THREE:

It's time to regroup. As you communicate with each other (by text or tablet communications) and come back together...

One player rolls 1d4. (If someone rolled a 6 in the previous step, they must be the one to roll. If multiple people did, please quote Nuxaz first. Otherwise, anyone may be the individual who rolls.)
Quote:
  • 1 - You and your team spot someone who matches the descriptions to a T. One of you takes off after them and the others divert down other paths in hopes of cornering them.

  • 2 - Someone crosses your path that gives you a vibe. One of you tails them and upon closer inspection, you note that they look remarkably similar to the description you've been looking for. You call for the rest of the team to help you corner them.

  • 3 - Despite your venture downtown, the team falls short. Outside of false spotting and potential information you've eavesdropped on the mission is a failed one. Skip step four and have one character submit a mission report. While the mission wasn't a success, it's completed.

  • 4 - You have an encounter with one of the senshi. Please quote Nuxaz for further instruction and disregard the rest of the mission prompts.

It looks like the senshi has been spotted! It's a mad dash to scramble and catch them. You and your team are in a frenzy trying to zip through the throngs of people filling the streets doing their shopping. If you don't keep them in their sights, you'll lose them. Better think fast!

  • If you have rolled a 1 or a 2 you may now power up with caution if you chose. Use discretion as any of the civilians could be a senshi in disguise!

  • Please keep in mind that your agent is likely unfamiliar with the territory! Teleporting is acceptable but proceed with caution! (See step four)

♠️STEP FOUR:

IF YOU ROLLED A (BLANK) IN STEP THREE:

  • If you rolled 1:

You and your team are on the chase, each player r1d20. You must get a 20 to catch the senshi. You have 3 chances per player to catch them. If you roll a 20, quote Nuxaz. If you roll a 15, you are ambushed, quote Nuxaz. Otherwise this mission is a failure. Please submit a mission report on your findings. You may try again once the report is submitted.

  • If you rolled 2:

Each player r1d4. Evens mean that you have successful found the senshi you're looking for. Proceed to roll 1d20. You must get a 20 to catch the senshi. If you roll a 15, you are ambushed, quote Nuxaz. Odds mean that the person you're tailing is not the senshi you are looking for. The mission is a failure. Please submit a mission report on your findings. You may try again once the report is submitted.

  • If you rolled 3:

You have failed your mission. Please submit a report on your findings. You may try again once the report is submitted.

  • If you rolled 4:

Skip this step and quote Nuxaz for a special interaction.

Any time you teleport 1d100. You may only teleport up to 2 times a Captain/Super and 4 times as General/Eternal. If you attempt to teleport with anyone else, you are only able to teleport once at Captain/Super and twice at General/Eternal!

      Quote:
    • 1- 20 You teleport several paces behind your target. They're too far ahead of you. Something obstructs your ability to lunge forward and you must attempt to run around it and catch up.
    • 21 - 40 You unfamiliarity with your surroundings mean you misjudge when you teleport and end up on the wrong rooftop/alleyway. Disoriented you struggle to re-locate either your team or the target. (You only have 1 chance to catch the senshi after you roll this.)
    • 41 - 60 Luckily you teleport almost directly behind them, they're almost in reach! Unfortunately you trip over something before you can grab them and they slip out of your grasp once again.
    • 61 - 80 Teleporting takes you into another area instead of your intended location and you see no one around you at first. When you turn around you can spot the tell-tale signs of a chase and you are able to jump right back in.
    • 81 - 90 You teleport directly into the path of one of your teammates! They crash into you! Both of you go down. (Quote the person above you for this interaction! Both players lose 1 catch opportunity.)
    • 91 - 100 You teleport right in front of the senshi, obstructing their path! Follow up with a 1d4, evens mean you successfully corner them. Odds mean that they find some way to get around you! Quote Nuxaz for interaction!

OOC

  • At the conclusion of the mission, please have 1 character fill out a mission report. You may simply fill out the form in the mission hub or write a solo/reg for it.
  • If you hit 0 HP at any point, Quote Nuxaz for a special interaction!
  • Successful completion of the mission earns you A Small Looking Glass (This may only be used once and adds +/- 3 to a social interaction to take the positive interaction) May be obtained twice. Effects do not stack.

Suri knew that when she went on Pack missions, it was her job to be professional and diplomatic, in spite of her misgivings. She was even under orders to 'play nice', which she resented for the tone but had to concede was merited, given her history.

Still, when she'd been given instructions to patrol with Priscilla Stratford, she couldn't help but scrunch her nose. Prissy was Chase's flavor of the week who'd become a full-time fling, she was loud and obnoxiously pampered and...pink. So very pink. But Suri was an adult and she was capable of taking the high road (if only to prove she was more mature by far), and so she met at an appointed time, looking discreet in a drab grey coat and slacks to hide the leg, which was sure to catch stares.

While she waited to hear from her 'partner', she skimmed a news stand on the square, looking for headlines regarding the most recent attack. She thought about looking for obituaries, then pursed her lips. It would do no good to dwell on what had already happened.

Suri.

She was ordered to go patrol with Suri.

There were plenty of others she could have been ordered to go with - even her own Mau was an option, as far as she was concerned, but she just knew Chase was being a butt by making her partner up with the one woman she couldn't stand above all other women.

Hmph.

It wasn't hard to find the dreary looking thing, standing near a news stand (how unsurprising, the little nerd). Prissy couldn't help but roll her eyes as her heels made their way towards the stand... and then stopped as she noticed the cute little cafe across the street.

Yes, much better.

Making her way towards one of the quaint little tables with perfectly pink flowers sitting in the vase on the center, she claimed one of the chairs for her own, despite not waiting for a waiter to direct her to a table. She was Priscilla Stratford, after all - it was her choice, not anyone else's.

Once she was adequately comfortable, her shrill voice carried itself over towards the stand, the intention being to catch the older woman's attention.

"Suri, darling -- I'm over here! Yoo hoo~"

Nothing like making a handicapped woman hobble an extra length just for the fun of it.

You catch sight of one that mentions an attack at the local hospital. That's peculiar but before you can read any more, someone bumps into you.

"Oh, sorry mate. You alright?"

They're completely blocking the newspapers to your frustration and don't appear to be inclined to move.

Suri's shoulders scrunched, hearing that shrill cry over the din of downtown's bustle. Of course Priscilla had taken it upon herself to lounge about on a mission, not thinking about the fact that the sooner they finished with each other, the sooner they both could leave. Suri was not so blind as to assume that the other woman got any enjoyment out of their time together, and was at least willing to extend the olive branch enough to take measures so that their interactions were minimized. Couldn't Prissy pretend to be a team player, just to cooperate long enough so they could go back to ignoring each other?

One headline caught Suri's attention, but in the space between glancing up to glower at the pinkette, someone shoved her away, apologetic enough to say something but not apologetic to actually get out of her way. "I'm fine," she grumbled, stepping aside from the stand before she let her temper simmer for too long. It would be so easy to end his life, right there in the square--but she wasn't Zircon, and she had to be discreet, for the sake of the mission.

(She memorized his face anyway, in the event he ever had the luck to meet her in a dark alleyway, and that promise helped to calm her nerves).

Suri scrunched her nose at the other woman, starting to cross the street, when she noticed someone wearing black towards the main entrance of the cafe, perhaps a receptionist or host. "Excuse me," Suri asked, approaching the host instead of her partner--leave Miss Priss to her lounge table, she had work to do. "I'm not from around here--is it appropriate to just sit anywhere? I wouldn't want to be rude." She didn't look at Prissy, but the edges of her mouth curled into a smirk all the same.

Suri would find the host leaning against his host podium leafing through a magazine and popping gum. Loudly. When approached, pale brows lifted and paler eyes lifted like the woman had bothered him for no good reason.

At the mention of the girl with pink hair he cast a sideways glance and shrugged.

"If ya wanna get served, then ya, ya gotta be seated proper." The magazine was flipped closed and the gum smacked just loud enough as he stood up.

"Ya want a table?"

She rolled her eyes -- first, at the nagging old hag that was clearly trying to make her look back and then at the maitre d' who was clearly an embarrassment to himself with how he was chewing on gum like a cow chews on cud.

Slowly she rose from her comfortable spot, making her way around the outside seating area to sidle up alongside the dreary looking duo who clearly didn't know how to dress up for an adventure in a foreign country.

Well. It wasn't the waitstaff's fault - surely that horrid outfit was mandatory.

"Of course we want a table - we wouldn't be standing around here waiting if we didn't." She responded cattily to the gum smacking host, making a show of rolling her eyes. She could always go elsewhere - how hard was it to try to be nice to the clientele?

To Suri, she wrinkled her nose. "About time you showed up."

Suri ignored Priscilla's outburst, her gaze steady on the host--after all, it was rude to interrupt a conversation you weren't a part of. "Yes, I think I'd like a table," she responded to the host after a moment's consideration, tapping at her chin. "I've just flown in from out of town--do you have any recommendations for the highlights of seeing the city?"

She crossed her arms over her peacoat, adjusting her gloves, and only then did she acknowledge Prissy, poorly pretending to raise her eyebrows in surprise when she glanced over at the woman. "Oh. Priscilla. Were you wanting a table too?" On a normal day, Suri would have half a dozen barbs lined up to jab at Chase's little pet project--sorry, I forgot your average dining experience was Applebee's, or Chase didn't tell me you were serving now. It suits you, or perhaps really go for the throat by leaving her to flounder with no table and no service, all alone without her paid-for friends to keep her company. But Suri just didn't have the fight in her to be spiteful--she averted her gaze down, kept her hands folded in front of her. She looked tired, even more so than usual, and she sighed.

Let's just get this over with.

He blew a gum bubble at the pinkette, blinking slowly at her like either he couldn't comprehend what she was saying or that he thought she was off her rocker.

"Aaaallright," he replied, smacking his gum after dragging his teeth across his mouth to gather up all the gum that stuck to it.

Two menus were held in his hand and he started to walk off, only glancing over to see if they were following. "This way," he said like it was an afterthought.

"Dunno, most folks like the Dormouse Cafe. There's all these clubs too." He shrugged, moving at a slow, sloth like place. "Just be careful or whatever. Hospital's been full up lately."

He dropped the menus on the table without another thought and meandered away.

"Oh, Suri, you always did have such a strange sense of humor."

It was hard, very hard to ignore the gum smacking of their rude, unprofessional host but Prissy managed to endure - for the sake of the mission, of course. The sound of visiting a club seemed far more appealing than sharing tea and crumpets with a grump-et but she'd promised her boyfriend that she'd be on her best behavior and... well. She was trying.

Sort of.

"Full up, you say?" Well there was an interesting thought. Why on earth would the hospital be full - was there a plague running about that they weren't aware of? Or was it the senshi's doing?

She didn't wait to see what seat Suri would choose before barreling her way to the closest chair and taking her seat, manicured nails plucking up one of the abandoned menus before perusing the laminated pages.

"I don't think we'll find much of anything here but incompetent service," she murmured, her tone clearly huffy.

Suri's eyes lifted when she heard the host say hospital--but his flippant attitude had him leaving before she had a chance to ask about more. "There were mentions of attacks at a hospital, in the news," she said instead to her reluctant partner, moving slowly to the opposite seat. Her mouth quirked at the flimsy look of the chairs, like she could test their load bearing ability with the weight of her gaze.

"Well, you picked the place," she retorted to Prissy's dismissive complaint, but she bit her tongue before it had the chance to be any more barbed. They were supposed to cooperate as a team. They were on a mission, setting an example of what two high ranking officers in the Negaverse could do.

Well. A high ranking officer and a pet project who'd been given wings. But she knew well enough now to not say it out loud.

Suri started to sit when a someone passed their table by, one of any number of shop-goers milling about the square, but there was something about their hair that gave her pause. It wasn't quite the description they were given during the debriefing, but...

"Black shirt, at the crosswalk," Suri muttered lowly, fixated on the back of the person's head. "Could be our mark." She nodded in the direction of the potential senshi, then glanced around, frowning. There weren't many places to safely power up, but they could make do.

She was working herself up to a conversation of catty remarks when Suri's hushed muttering caught her attention by surprise. Pink brows lifted as it took her a moment to realize she was being given instructions to glance off to the distance, that a target had been spotted in view.

Casually turning her head, she acted as if she were still bored with the incompetent service (which was fairly true, hmph), she looked over to where Suri had directed her to look for the individual.

Hm.

For once, it seemed as if Suri had proven herself useful. Pity that it had been the one-legged wonder to find the mark... but that didn't help either of them when it came down to capturing the target, now did it?

Reaching into her purse, she pulled out a handful of foreign bills and littered them across the tabletop. "I'm bored. I'm going to find a better place with better options."

Hint: she was going to find a place to power up and if Suri was smart, she'd tag along with her.

Without waiting for the other woman to respond (much less hobble after her), the young lady strolled off the side of the outdoor seating to look for the nearest alleyway to henshin up in.
