A warm glow all around was the first thing that Chip was aware of. Even before his name. In fact, he didn’t have a name at that moment...or, at least, not that name.

Hesitantly, he opened his eyes, blinked, and looked around. He was in a hut. It seemed pretty big, but really, he was rather small. A cat. Kitten, really. That much he knew, but...everything else was a bit fuzzy. Never a good thing...but there’d be time to sort that out later. First the matter of where was here, and how’d he get here?

The answer, as it happened, came rather quickly. A human girl appeared in the doorway of the hut, and her eyes went strait to him. “Oh, you’re awake!” She said, quickly approaching and kneeling down by the still sitting cat. “How do you feel?”

“Uhm,” the cat replied. “Bit dazed. How’d I get here?”

“I found you! It was...in some kind of, uh,” she rubbed the back of her head, considering, “escape pod looking thing, I guess. Looked pretty banged up. Do you remember how you got there?”

Chip considered the question, then shook his little head. “Uhm, nope. No idea. Can’t remember anything...I mean, I remember stuff, but nothing about stuff.”

She frowned, and petted the kitten softly, and he purred. “That’s too bad...I’d hoped my healing magic would help you after I found you, so I brought you here...you’re on my world, although we’d better go back to Earth soon.”

“Earth?” Chip replied. “What’s Earth?”

“What’s…?” She echoed. “Oh boy. Well. Story time, I guess…But first, what’s your name?”

“Uhm…” He pawed his head, considering. “Er...I’m sure I have one, but I dunno what it is.”

“Well, how about,” she tapped her chin. “Chip! Your fur reminds me of a cookie…”

After a bit of consideration, his tail swished, and he nodded. “Okay, Chip works!”

“Great! And I’m Judy,” she told him. “Nice to meet you, Chip. Now, uhm...let’s, have a talk about the world a bit…”

It took a while, but Chip got a rundown of just what he’d woken up into. Maybe he’d already been in it? Hard to say, but here he was now, for better or worse...And while the cat couldn’t remember anything, he felt inspired. “I think I can help! Let’s go back to Earth, and...hmm...do you think you could get me some things? I need some metals, uh, gears, wires…”

As he rambled through a list, she laughed lightly and nodded. “Yeah, I think we can manage something...but maybe tell me about what it is you want to make, first?”

“Oh yeah, it’s, uh,” he started, then trailed off. “Erm, you know what? I don’t remember exactly what it is. But...I remember it! How to make it! And that it’d be super helpful with fighting back Chaos!” He nodded confidently. “Trust me, it’ll be perfect!”

“Well...if you say so,” she said, nodding doubtfully. “Now, c’mon, time to go home…”

She scooped him up gently (such a small cat is quite easily carried, of course), and said, “Alright, off we go!” With the help of her phone, they were rather soon back in the streets of Destiny City.

Over the next couple of days, Chip pawed out designs, directed screwdrivers (as it turned out, Judy had a few other senshi friends who were apparently very glad to have a cat on hand), and did his own work, getting a handle on his own Mauvian abilities.

He managed to put a few things together that he thought, at least, would be useful.

And his contraption...well, it was looking impressive, at least. Possibly a few too many spinning gears and bubbling steam vents. It would, he assured them, provide an undetectable base of operations, once finished and completely running. A nice aura dead zone to be able to practice and do whatever...safely.

Once it was finished.

Unfortunately for everyone involved, there was a fatal flaw that was missed completely...and while the device was being built, it gradually grew into a subtle beacon instead. Until one day...

Chip’s little senshi crew was tinkering with a few things, idly discussing the best way to strike back at the Negaverse. Overall, a rather pleasant Saturday afternoon. Spirits were high, ideas were flying, snacks were had. And then, rather suddenly, the little tucked away warehouse they’d been using (and more openly now that they had a cat to hide their auras better) reverberated with loud bangs...and then the front door blew in, and a dozen Negaverse agents burst in.

Powered or unpowered, they didn’t stand a chance.

The little cat, being as small as he was, mostly evaded notice...hiding beneath an overturned box of parts.

After a surprisingly short amount of time, the sounds of fighting subsided, and then he was left with the sounds of rummaging, and people calling back and forth about what they’d found. He knew he couldn’t stay there, so cautiously, slowly, he started to scoot his hiding box toward the wall, where he knew there was an open window above.

Scoot, scoot, wait. Listen. Scoot. Listen. Scoot. Drop. It took a while, but he managed to get all the way to the wall, and then, just as he was about to pop out of the box and leap to the window, there was a thump directly on top of the box and...he couldn’t lift it. A voice above said with an amused tone, “I think I’ve found something very interesting…”

Before he could really sort out what he should do, more thumping around him signaled additional people, and then the box was abruptly lifted. He had a moment to see a few people around, and a thick bag. Then it was darkness.

Chip never learned exactly what happened to his crew...nor his first friend Judy.

Some time later, he didn’t know how long, he was unceremoniously dumped out of the sack, and deposited in a cage. The very air of the place felt off… Negaspace.
