"Blessed be the coming of Spring," said Lynnaea in front of a small flower bed of budding flowers within her family's townhome complex. The complex had it's own fresh vegetable garden, with flower beds strewn throughout. Since she was a small child, she'd been coming to the flower beds on the solstices and equinoxes to pay respect to the garden. 'Giving respect to the old ones,' her mother had always said.
The lavender haired teen tapped in some more soil and sat back on her heels. She pressed a hand to her chest and bowed her head. "Spirits of nature, protect this bed of flowers so we may experience your luster."
The last bed was done! With any luck and some offerings placed on the altar tonight, the flowers would grow strong and the vegetables would be all the better for it. Lynn dusted her hands on her apron and simply sat in the sunshine for a moment. Such warm light, it really was a blessed day.
She closed her eyes, and something heavy and snarling slammed into her side. Lynn screamed and hit the ground beneath her, trying to cover her face from the claws and teeth going after her eyes.
"Ahhhh! Help! Help me!

Small, triangular ears perked up at the sound of cries for help. They could have been fake cries... children, playing, but in a city like DC, more than any other, you had to take them seriously enough to investigate. It could be lives on the line and Ash, at least, was (some what) equipped to help.
A flash of grey, streaking down the side of a little suburban house, the wet of early spring dampening delicate paws. Ash took in the scene in a moment, ears pinning at the mental, and literal, reek of youma. The small cat leaped forward and was suddenly not so small any more, her form expanding in a flash of sparkles and half glimpsed computer code. Bare, pale feet hit the cold ground this time, a purple cape settling behind the girl that appeared. In her hands, she held a little gun, all plastic and flashing lights, that she brandished at the beast.
"Back off you... monster!" She snapped. With a rather dramatic flourish, Ash set herself with feet apart, two fingers pressed to her forehead beside the gold star there. A beam of light shot from the mark like a laser, colliding with the youma and making it howl. It was enough to get its attention, but unfortunately, not enough to do more than annoy it. Ash squeaked as it moved towards her, back pedaling quickly.

A, a, a,, cat person?! The cat had become a person!? And shot light out of her forehead!? What was going on? Who was this? Why was this happening? What was that thing snarling on the ground? All she wanted to do was garden! This was not what she'd asked for when she'd asked nature to take care of the garden!
More to the point--
"Look out! It's --- It's coming back!" cried Lynn, as she scooted herself back and looked for the trowel she'd been using earlier. A hand closed on it and she held it in front of her, much like a sword.
The youma in question snarled and leapt for Ash's face with a florish of teeth and claws.

Oh dear...
There was a reason Ash didn't usually put herself on the 'front lines', so to speak. She squealed as the youma jumped at her, ducking and scrambling out of it's way. Teeth snapped just shy of her tail, the fall of her cape tangling in her limbs till she got shook them out of it.
"Oh dear oh dear oh dear..." She babbled, stumbling back up to stand and whirling on the monster. Her tail was a puff behind her and she growled low in her throat, that toy gun of hers finally brought forward and aimed at the monster.
"That is quite enough!" Ash demanded indignantly. "Time to teach you a lesson... Sailor Ash Power, Make-up!"
The flash of light was brighter this time, more defined, if a glow could be said to be defined. Her form dissolved into it, and the code flashed within her silhouette, all glowing purples and blues. It burst in a shower of sparkles and she was changed again, a little different than before. A shorter skirt and cape now, boots rather than bare feet. Still the same ears and tail.
"Pew pew!" Ash trilled, aiming her gun at the youma. The beam that shot from it was a lot brighter this time, and from the way it howled, a lot more painful.
"You had better give me a hand with this." The cat girl said over her shoulder. She flourished a hand and something fell from the air into her palm. The size and shape of a pen, it had a large, stylized cap on the end. "Here! Call out Mizuki Power, Make-up! Just like I did!"
She tossed the pen back to her, the tip of her gun still trained on the youma that snarled and drooled before them.

The cat person became.... more cat person with bows and a cape and boots and she was throwing something at Lynn?! She yelped and fumbled while catching the pen. A pen? What was she supposed to do with a pen? Call out a thing? What the heck?
"Wh-what do you mean call out Mizuki Power, Make up!? AH!" Lynn let out a cry as the pen in her hand glowed. The glow was lilac in color, and surged up her arms with the brush of a petal against skin. The soft fragrance of lilacs filled her nose as the glow encompaced her. There was a rush of energy and the light faded softly.
Where Lynn had sat now sat a senshi doned in lavender and white. She - Mizuki, she guessed - looked down at herself and yelped again. She was, she was, how did her clothing change?!
"Miss Cat what is going on?!" she said, pushing herself to her feet. Mizuki eeped again as the youma shifted in front of them. Something nagged at her, that she could do to help, but she didn't know what it was.

Relief nearly made Ash's human knees weak. She had had a hunch... a hint of a feeling, and it had seemed she was right. The bright light and smell of flowers said she was right, as did the senshi girl sitting where the regular girl had been sitting before.
Whirling about, she closed the few steps between them and grabbed her by her wrist, hauling her up onto her feet. Her tail lashed, but she had a better feeling about their odds now.
"I'm sorry I can't explain right now, Darling." She said in a rush. "I promise I will. Right now, we need to deal with that Youma. Its a monster and its mean, and it will eat us if we let it, ok?"
Ash nodded earnestly, tugging the girl to stand beside her and wrapping an arm comfortingly around her waist.
"That's why I helped you wake up, so you could fight it. You have power inside of you, and you can absolutely smash that nasty thing to bits! All you have to do is concentrate... feel for it. You already know what to do, I should think, you just need to... remember how. Just say the words, and the magic will do the rest." She encouraged her forward with a pat against her back, her own gun still pointed towards the monster. Having felt her ray gun once, it did not seem in a hurry to feel it again, though their window of reprieve would be closing soon.

She was on her feet and staring at the growling youma down and oh Goddess this was happening too fast, entirely too fast and ---
The cat girl wanted her to fight?! Mizuki let out a strangled sort of sound in fear. Smash the monster? With what, a garden trowel? How did she expect Mizuki to even be useful---
There wa a flash of something across her mind and Mizuki flung out her hands as her mouth moved all on its own.
"Lilac Petal Dance!" she cried, hundreds of petals materializing in front of her. They flew towards the youma and danced around it, distracting the monster. She wasn't sure if it would help, but maybe it would give the cat girl a chance to actually end it once and for all??

They were only going to get one more shot with this... Ash could already feel herself tiring. She'd certainly made do with worse, of course, back when she hadn't been able to reach human form, let alone senshi.
If they couldn't take down this youma together. Well. She wasn't much of a Guardian Cat, was she?
The mauvian watched the girl with the sense of a mother watching a child learn to ride a bike for the first time. With pride, knowing they could do it, and no small amount of wishing she could help, but knowing no one could do it for them... And her new senshi did not disappoint.
Lilac... Yes! The new senshi's sphere was Lilacs, because of course it was, and her magic gave her the opening she needed.
Planting herself feet apart next to her senshi, Ash raised her ray gun with both hands tight around the butt of it.
"Firing Lasers!" She said, her voice high pitched and nearly laughing. A ball of light formed again at the tip of the gun and then it streaked out in a white-hot beam, tearing past the dancing petals to impact the distracted monster. It shrieked as it burned and with a last convulsion, it disintegrated into ash, falling in a dusting across the ground.
"Yes!"
Ash twirled her gun around her finger, feeling very pleased with herself just then.

The monster went down, the cat lady let out a cheer and Mizuki dropped her arms. All the adrenaline rushed out of her and she flopped back onto the ground, legs splayed out on each side.
She'd fought a monster.
She'd fought a monster.
One moment she'd been gardening and blessing her garden, the next she'd become some sort of... super person and fought a monster? She... she couldn't do this!? This was too much, this was--
Mizuki began to sniffle and tears formed at the corners of her eyes. "C-cat lady... what... what's happening to meeeee~?" she hiccuped and trembled a little. This was not what she thought would happen when she woke up this morning...

"Oh, my sweet Darling..." Ash cooed, seeing her newest senshi collapse into tears. Understandable, considering the situation she'd just been thrust into.
Ash dropped to her knees beside her and wrapped her arms around her head, drawing her to rest against her chest as she made comforting noises and stroked her purple hair.
"Shhh, shh, its okay. I know, that was very scary. Its okay." She mewed. "You're safe now, and everything will be okay."
She didn't feel the slightest guilt in telling her that, despite what others might think of being suddenly inducted into a war you didn't know was being fought all around you. Death and injury close possibilities. Everything would be okay, because Ash firmly believed it would be, whatever happened.
"My name is Ash." She started, still stroking her hair. "I am a Mauvian, which is to say, a sort of cat person."
She left out the 'alien' part. There was already a lot to impart to her without bringing that up and it would come out naturally eventually anyway.
"Its my job to find very special people, just like you, and help them release the power they have inside of them." Ash kept her voice light as she reached to tap a finger on the brooch in the center of Mizuki's chest. "That's all it was. You are a guardian, a Sailor Senshi, and you draw your power from a place called Mizuki, which is why you share it's name. Your job is protect that place, and this world too, ultimately. From monsters like that Youma we dusted, and the people who control it."

Mizuki made several sniffing noises as the girl-cat -- Ash -- held her. It was all very scary and Mizuki didn't know what to do with it. Ash spoke and stroked her hair, and she felt much safer and more calm as time went on.
She looked down at the brooch on her chest, then back up at Ash. "I'm... special? I thought... I thought the senshi were... bad?" she asked the guardian cat, now rather perplexed. The tears had stopped, thankfully.
She'd had this power in her all this time? That made her feel a little better about this. She didn't think she wanted to fight monsters though...

"What?" Ash said incredulously she pulled back to get a look at the girl she held. "Whoever told you that? Or was it that awful documentary?"
She snorted through her nose and gathered the girl close again, picking up her soothing noises.
"The Negaverse is the people we fight against. They have agents in all sorts of positions and often times, their jobs are to spread propaganda about us like that." She said with a huff. "I'd argue all senshi are good, but I must admit that they are all just people and some people don't make very good choices sometimes. But everyone fights to protect the city and the people in it... like your family."
Ash settled back now and gathered Mizuki's hands into her own.
"Some people in this city don't have the power that you do. If someone like that had been attacked by that monster, well! It would not have gone very well for them. At the very least, most senshi try to get rid of the monsters like we did." Flourishing a hand, Ash caught a phone as it fell out of the air, presenting it with a smile to her senshi. "This is your senshi phone. It only works when you're powered up like this, but its very useful. You can call me, or anyone you've added as a contact. Just take their picture and they'll be added. It also has a primer on it for new senshi, with lots of useful information. If you get into trouble you can't handle, there this emergency app that sends out a distress signal, and nearby senshi will come to help."
There was also an app to take her to the moon and to her own planet, but that seemed already like a lot of information without those parts.

Mizuki listened very quietly. It was a lot of information to take it, especially given that she'd just been sort of thrown into it all. She was special though, and the seriousness of her power, she was going to take it to heart. She looked at the phone in her hands and then back at Ash and gave a firm nod of her head.
"Okay... I think I understand. There are monsters, and evil people trying to take over the city, and we need to protect it from them. I have special powers that let me do this, and I am the Senshi of... Lilacs?" she said, recapping for herself mostly. She squeezed Ash's hands.
This whole thing terrified her, but she'd give it ago and try. If she could protect someone, then she'd do it.
"Okay Miss Ash. I think I can do this."

Ash smiled brightly and gathered Mizuki up again in another hug, enjoying for a moment her ability to stroke her hair before she let go.
"When you are ready to power up again, do call me and I'll come and help show you what to do, ok? I also know a few senshi who can help you, and keep you safe until you can take care of yourself." The guardian raised a finger and wiggled it warningly. "Don't take any unnecessary risks! You're stronger as a senshi, but its also in some ways more dangerous. Don't power up anywhere someone can see you, and don't tell anyone who you are. Got that? Its to keep your civilian life, and your family and friends, safe. Its also probably best not to power up near your house. You don't want anyone following you home."
She patted her senshi's hands one last time, and then dissolved into sparkles. The woman that had been there was gone, and now a grey cat blinked up at her through a purple visor, a purr rumbling in her chest.
"I'm afraid I can't hold onto that form for too long, so if you want to keep talking about things, its probably best if you power down too, and then I can fill you in on everything I know. If that's okay with you?" She said brightly, eyes wide.
It was a good start to things, Ash figured. It could have been far worse, so this was very much a success in her book.a-disgruntled-dragon I didn't get your tag back, I'm sorry! ;w; wrap here?
