Nereid was back at it again, out on the streets. Exp bonus was calling and she wasn't about to miss it, not today. NOT TODAY. She was prepared to do whatever it took to get that battle experience so she could level up.
She felt another dark chaos energy, the same rank as a captain that she had battled before and dropped down on it like rain on a parade.
Cause she was about to rain on their parade of EVIL.
"CHALLENGER APPROACHING, NEREID OF WATERFALLS." She flourished her introduction with a pose, "And I'm about to put an end to your reign, Captain..." She waited for their name.

Larimar mostly just looked... baffled, when they looked at her. Was she for real? Yes, apparently. Were they about to play along with it? Maybe so. What better did they have to do, if she was about to fling herself at them either way?
Senshi these days. So predictable. Maybe they'd add a little mockery in next time.
Regardless, Larimar called their dagger to their hand with a thought and flipped it in the air with a graceful toss, letting their face settle into a predictable smirk. "Captain Larimar. And you? I get to know who I'm going to kill, don't I?"

"I already introduced myself." Nereid brought her hands up as soon as she saw the daggers. "Nereid of waterfalls!" She let the sleeves fall so that the captain could see the sphere reflected in her fuku.
"How do you feel about water?" Nereid grinned as she summoned her magic, "Waterfalls Barrier*"
Once Larimar was trapped, not that she could do anything, Nereid went about looking for a defense against the daggers and arming herself with a trash can lid. Daekie Waterfalls Barrier! Nereid calls the name of her attack, and holds out her arms. A thick circle of 8 feet water appears over her intended target's head and then comes crashing down. It acts as a wall between the target and everyone else, and last for 35 seconds. Anyone in the circle of 8 feet cannot move outside of it until the attack is over, and vice versa, anyone outside the circle cannot force themselves in. She can use this attack twice.

"Look - " they gritted their teeth - "extremely bold of you to assume I was paying enough attention to understand you ten seconds ago, or at all, okay -- " and the irritation was strong enough that even though Larimar half-tried to dive to the side a little too late, they were trapped all the same when Nereid called her magic.
Senshi magic. Ugh. This really wasn't their day. Why couldn't she have had some attack or self-boost instead of... whatever this was? That would have been infinitely preferable. "I'd rather be staying dry -- but I don't mind causing the occasional drowning." Larimar's golden eyes were shifting between Nereid and their surroundings, now, tensed to move when she came at them.

"YES I AM VERY BOLD!!" Nereid grinned at the trapped captain. The waterfall receded though and she was moving as quickly again as she could.
The trash can was used as a sort of shield and battering ram into the captain.
"I have more magic, if you're inclined to drown under the crushing roars of a waterfall." Nereid looked over her trash shield. "Be a fitting way to end your game, wouldn't it?"

Uuuuuugh magic. If the situation had been a little more comedic, and a little less 'there is a woman coming at me with a piece of solid metal, which can hurt my fragile flesh prison', Larimar might have rolled their eyes -- why did they always get the weirdos? It wasn't just limited to the Negaverse encounters, too, it was always Senshi like this. Maybe they were giving off some sort of aura, something that called these people to them.
But Nereid was, indeed, coming at them with a trash can lid. <********> that hurt. If they hadn't been awake before, they were now.
It was no crime to indulge in her banter, though. They liked banter. It always felt electric when it went right. "Fairly sure I've got a backup save -" bruised, not bleeding, but bruised - they summoned their dagger to hand again, gripped Nereid's makeshift "shield" as hard as they could with their other hand, and stabbed at her -- "so do you really want to take that - risk?"Pixie Nyxie weapon effect: Upon piercing skin, the area around the wound begins to feel cold - like it's been encased in ice - and becomes red and swollen. The effect lasts for ten seconds.

Nereid wasn't exactly weird....just naive. The idea of coming at her with the trash can lid was all that she could do after all. Her magic was able to keep people in place, not...not much else.
"Oh that's really smart!" Nereid almost was distracted by that, "Having multiple save files can be easily dangerous if you make the same mistake over and over though...." She didn't like the looks of the weapon though and as she came towards the captain, the clash of fake steel and real steel banged.
She did sustain injury from the stab, it piercing her side and immediately instead of feeling warm blood, felt ice cold skin. She looked down to see the pierce, thankfully NOT bleeding and the area around it red and swollen.
Damn, so magic was something lieutenants had.
"Enchanted weapon eh? I wonder what the stats are!" She jumped back throwing the garbage lid at Larimar again and moving back another couple paces. She didn't know how long the cold magic effect would keep even some blood from dripping and honestly, she didn't like to take more damage.
Every battle gave her experience points to level up anyways right?
"Well....I think I might not after all." Nereid grinned at her, "So we can do this easy or hard way. Easy, I go. I'm not above fleeing. Hard, You get another face full of my magic and I still skeaddle. What's it gonna be?"

'Weird' was debatable. Larimar had gotten called that, a few times; rarely as a civilian, because they invested a lot of effort into Jordan being quiet and agreeable and reliable because their future was worth more than anything they personally wanted to say, but more often as an officer. Because they -- it was all societal norms, but it never felt any easier to push against those. They couldn't help but be jealous of people who seemed like it came easy to. What would it be like, to be that comfortable in their own skin? Nereid probably never felt the way they did, and it made them so angry, but --
It wasn't worth it. She hit hard, for a senshi. And too-visible bruises would raise questions from people who meant nothing but the best.
"Let's go the easy way, then. I've always liked easy mode." They flipped their dagger in the air, catching it, pressing the steel against their sleeve and letting the hilt rest against their wrist. "But next time we see each other, it'll be a better fight, and we'll be better-leveled."
