MISSION 001 - DOWNTOWN WITZEND

    Recon Day Mission 001

Location: Shopping District of Downtown Witzend, England

Debriefing: There have been reports of senshi sightings in downtown Witzend. At first, it's only one or two reports but as the numbers increase, the activity calls for action.

This is a recon mission, your job is to blend in and collect information on potential senshi threats.

Requirements: 2-4 Agents, must be in civilian guises for stealth.

There are no rank restrictions for this mission.

♠️STEP ONE:
You arrive downtown.

It's the middle of the day, with the streets packed with civilians. Shops line the streets and various carts are stationed along sidewalks. There is no vehicle traffic, everyone is on foot and the streets are too narrow for cars.

People chatter at you in various languages, but once they recognize that you're foreigners, they switch to English.

Your instructions are to observe, to see if you can spot the rumored senshi, or, failing that, to gather information regarding the rogue senshi group.

Quote:
All players roll 1d6.

  • 1 - You survey the cart vendors, gazing over their wares while trying to listen in on conversations. Quote Nuxaz for overheard hushed conversation.

  • 2 - You run into someone, knocking whatever they're holding out of their hand. They're angry and cause a scene. People around you become suspicious and wary of you. You find that no matter what you do, someone is always watching and there's a concerning amount of attention your way. (You may only roll 1d4 in the next step due to the increased suspicion and distrust thrown your way.)

  • 3 - You decide to grab an outdoor seat at one of the cafe's that lines the street. It gives you a prime view of the area and you use this to your advantage to familiarize yourself with the area better. (Once, you may roll 2d100 when teleporting after entering step 4 and take the number that provides a more positive action.)

  • 4 - You come across a flyer on a nearby community bulletin board. There's an image attached that seems to match the description of the purported senshi. Lucky you! You pull the flyer down and tuck it into a pocket. (Please generate numbers 3-6 for the next step as you have a better visual for the target you're seeking!)

  • 5 - Stopping at a news stand, you pick up a paper to browse because the headline appears to relate to the sudden attacks within the city. You're unable to read the whole article but one blurb stands out and you file it away for later before something distracts you. Quote Nuxaz for a snippet.

  • 6 - You find yourself a nice wall to casually lean against and 'browse' your phone. People pass by you and pay little to no notice. You blend right in.

♠️STEP TWO:

So far things have been quiet but everyone is doing their due diligence when it comes to this recon mission. Everyone moves from their current position to continue trying to gather information.

Each player rolls 1d6.

    Quote:
  • 1 - You enter a nearby cafe because you think that you've spotted someone that fits the description you're watching for. Unfortunately, you find yourself shoved forward until the door is out of reach. To your dismay, you are now stuck in the cafe! (Please skip the next step and wait for further instruction.)

  • 2 - Someone notices that you're eavesdropping and turns on you. It's pretty clear that you're about to get an earful and people are starting to stare. Quote Nuxaz for civilian interaction.

  • 3 - You're tailing someone, but a crowd of people suddenly emerge from one of the nearby shops and knock into you. You lose sight of the person you're following and you struggle to get past the crowd.

  • 4 - Choosing to move from your current location, you walk down the street and pass by someone who almost matches the description. Reacting, you grab their wrist. Quote Nuxaz for interaction.

  • 5 - You happen upon someone who appears chatty. You start to casually ask them questions about the city and the strange happenings going on in the city. Quote Nuxaz for civilian interaction.

  • 6 - If you didn't know any better, you'd say that you spotted a white cat with a star on it's forehead. Considering there are not white mauvians on this mission with you, your suspicion has been spiked. You travel to the alley it disappeared down and spot someone with a familiar looking bow on their backside before they turn the corner and disappear from sight. (If you rolled a 6, please be the one who rolls for the next stage.)

  • ♠️STEP THREE:

It's time to regroup. As you communicate with each other (by text or tablet communications) and come back together...

One player rolls 1d4. (If someone rolled a 6 in the previous step, they must be the one to roll. If multiple people did, please quote Nuxaz first. Otherwise, anyone may be the individual who rolls.)
Quote:
  • 1 - You and your team spot someone who matches the descriptions to a T. One of you takes off after them and the others divert down other paths in hopes of cornering them.

  • 2 - Someone crosses your path that gives you a vibe. One of you tails them and upon closer inspection, you note that they look remarkably similar to the description you've been looking for. You call for the rest of the team to help you corner them.

  • 3 - Despite your venture downtown, the team falls short. Outside of false spotting and potential information you've eavesdropped on the mission is a failed one. Skip step four and have one character submit a mission report. While the mission wasn't a success, it's completed.

  • 4 - You have an encounter with one of the senshi. Please quote Nuxaz for further instruction and disregard the rest of the mission prompts.

It looks like the senshi has been spotted! It's a mad dash to scramble and catch them. You and your team are in a frenzy trying to zip through the throngs of people filling the streets doing their shopping. If you don't keep them in their sights, you'll lose them. Better think fast!

  • If you have rolled a 1 or a 2 you may now power up with caution if you chose. Use discretion as any of the civilians could be a senshi in disguise!

  • Please keep in mind that your agent is likely unfamiliar with the territory! Teleporting is acceptable but proceed with caution! (See step four)

♠️STEP FOUR:

IF YOU ROLLED A (BLANK) IN STEP THREE:

  • If you rolled 1:

You and your team are on the chase, each player r1d20. You must get a 20 to catch the senshi. You have 3 chances per player to catch them. If you roll a 20, quote Nuxaz. If you roll a 15, you are ambushed, quote Nuxaz. Otherwise this mission is a failure. Please submit a mission report on your findings. You may try again once the report is submitted.

  • If you rolled 2:

Each player r1d4. Evens mean that you have successful found the senshi you're looking for. Proceed to roll 1d20. You must get a 20 to catch the senshi. If you roll a 15, you are ambushed, quote Nuxaz. Odds mean that the person you're tailing is not the senshi you are looking for. The mission is a failure. Please submit a mission report on your findings. You may try again once the report is submitted.

  • If you rolled 3:

You have failed your mission. Please submit a report on your findings. You may try again once the report is submitted.

  • If you rolled 4:

Skip this step and quote Nuxaz for a special interaction.

Any time you teleport 1d100. You may only teleport up to 2 times a Captain/Super and 4 times as General/Eternal. If you attempt to teleport with anyone else, you are only able to teleport once at Captain/Super and twice at General/Eternal!

      Quote:
    • 1- 20 You teleport several paces behind your target. They're too far ahead of you. Something obstructs your ability to lunge forward and you must attempt to run around it and catch up.
    • 21 - 40 You unfamiliarity with your surroundings mean you misjudge when you teleport and end up on the wrong rooftop/alleyway. Disoriented you struggle to re-locate either your team or the target. (You only have 1 chance to catch the senshi after you roll this.)
    • 41 - 60 Luckily you teleport almost directly behind them, they're almost in reach! Unfortunately you trip over something before you can grab them and they slip out of your grasp once again.
    • 61 - 80 Teleporting takes you into another area instead of your intended location and you see no one around you at first. When you turn around you can spot the tell-tale signs of a chase and you are able to jump right back in.
    • 81 - 90 You teleport directly into the path of one of your teammates! They crash into you! Both of you go down. (Quote the person above you for this interaction! Both players lose 1 catch opportunity.)
    • 91 - 100 You teleport right in front of the senshi, obstructing their path! Follow up with a 1d4, evens mean you successfully corner them. Odds mean that they find some way to get around you! Quote Nuxaz for interaction!

OOC

  • At the conclusion of the mission, please have 1 character fill out a mission report. You may simply fill out the form in the mission hub or write a solo/reg for it.
  • If you hit 0 HP at any point, Quote Nuxaz for a special interaction!
  • Successful completion of the mission earns you A Small Looking Glass (This may only be used once and adds +/- 3 to a social interaction to take the positive interaction) May be obtained twice. Effects do not stack.

The next mission had come through a few days after the file of her mission report about the Carroll Memorial Rose Gardens mission. She hadn't been surprised, having assumed that it would be a follow up to said mission in question, but instead it seemed that she was required to do surveillance–

Which was how Ashley had found herself in the shopping district downtown, in an outfit that while professional would be easy to move in, with her curls up in a messy but functional ponytail.

She wasn't down to do this mission alone, she had seen in her scan of the information that a couple of Lieutenants would also be working the mission with her, that they - like her - would also be powered down for the mission.

One of the names, Lieutenant Fettelite, she recalled from the Carroll Memorial Rose Gardens mission, remembering the Lieutenant as having been easy to work with and - most importantly - as having had a good eye.

The other, Lieutenant Jadarite, was one that she was not familiar with however - although the fact that this was a civilian mission served as a way for her to be familiar with more people than the limited amount that she had known prior to the mission start.

Hopefully this mission would be one that would run smoother than the Rose Gardens mission and the three of them would be able to uncover something that would be of use to the overall mission.

Emilia's team had gotten valuable information during the previous scouting mission, but ultimately they'd had a senshi slip right between their fingers. It left a bad taste in her mouth even though it wasn't technically her fault. They'd been supposed to be collecting information, after all, and she'd been the only one to achieve that, but it had also meant that she was away from their allies when they'd needed her. That was something she'd have to correct this time around.

The bosses seemed to have adjusted for actually encountering senshi, as well. The captain supervising apparently had some combat experience, and the other lieutenant had been on a mission with her before. Emmy was the only one who had been out scouting downtown before. She was glad that she hadn't been reassigned. She wanted to see what was going on with the senshi, and this time she wouldn't be satisfied coming back with only a rumor in hand.

She wore a cute little romper, but more importantly, she wore sneakers so that she could run if she needed to. She also didn't immediately split off from the group. "The last sighting was over there," she said quietly, and nodded towards an alleyway that led to more of a park area.

It seemed like the same thing happened for all of them from what December understood. They all did a mission before, but some how, it didn't quiet finish. Despite that all, he was feeling much better than he had been before! Not only was he now doing something he was familiar with, he wasn't the reason they failed last mission, AND he didn't have to be Fettelite. Not being Fettelite meant he could be himself without actually giving away the fact that he, maybe, wasn't really quiet up to par with the rest of them.

That was fine. The more plain he was, the less he stood out, and the less chance a general would ask him to do more than he was capable of.

And today, he was rather plain. Simple T-shirt, Jeans, and a baseball cap was the wardrobe for today, and plain non-brand tennis shoes for running, as it seemed like there was always a chance for that during these sorts of missions!

Thanks to the pictures on his device, he was able to spot the other two without much difficult, and gave a little wave.

"Nice to see you two! Are you ready? I'm so sorry if I kept us waiting!" While he wanted better introductions, something told him that it would be a smarter idea to not push out the fact that they weren't exactly familiar with one another. It was best to get started, and maybe pick up a snack while they walked around.

1 - You survey the cart vendors, gazing over their wares while trying to listen in on conversations. Quote Nuxaz for overheard hushed conversation.

The first lieutenant to arrive was the one that she hadn't worked with before, the information that Ashley had looked over mentioning that she went by the name Emilia when not powered up.

It had also mentioned that she had been part of a previous mission to survey the shopping district and that this particular mission was in follow up to that one.

She had nodded at the information that Emilia had provided quietly, grey eyes taking in and noting with approval the sneakers that the other had chosen to wear as she waited for Fettelite - or for the purposes of this particular mission - December to arrive, before shifting towards the indicated alleyway.

She was glancing back as December arrived a few minutes after, lips quirking up in a small smile "We haven't been here that long" said continuing quietly "Emilia was just passing on information that the alleyway over there" another brief glance towards the alleyway in question "Was where the last sighting was, making it a place of interest."

Adding just as quietly "Since we're all here it would probably be best to make a start," because they were here to work.

There were a series of cart vendors between where they were and the alleyway in question, Ashley glancing over at the wares as she started to meander in the direction of the alleyway that Emilia was pointing out, while trying to make it look like she was actually drifting from stall to stall as she tried to listen to the snippets of chatter that she could hear without it seeming obvious that that was what she was doing.

The final agent showed up right on time, completing the group. Ashley seemed happy to see him, and Emilia could respect that, as she was the one in charge. At least December seemed to have mastered the concept of keeping it casual, which had both its pros and cons on a mission like this. It would lower suspicion, but being too casual might also lead to a repeat of last time.

"You're fine," she said with a small nod. On that note, getting started was not a terrible idea, either.

She watched as Ashley started off towards some of the vendors. It wasn't a bad idea. They seemed to be the ones who knew the rumors around here, but Emmy didn't risk following too closely in her footsteps.

Another option that seemed to be fairly central was a cafe. This one didn't look nearly as dank or crowded as some of the others. Chances of being shoved into the depths of it like she had before seemed slim. In fact, it was open air and located on a street corner that had a good view of most of the shopping district. Emmy picked out a bottled juice from the side refrigerator, which wasn't quite the England experience, but she couldn't wait for a fancy drink to come up if the senshi showed their face again. Then she sank down into a wrought iron chair and took a look at her surroundings. Nothing seemed suspicious yet, but she thought she was getting a feel for the area.

After a little while, December gave a small yawn, the colorful groups of people making his eyes tired. To maybe help counter that sleepiness, he decided to head into the cafe and maybe get a drink, oooh, and maybe something for his partners. They’d appreciate that, right? Something refreshing on this ever so drainingmission they were on.

But as he just nearly reached the cafe, there it was! Or, at least it looked like who they were looking for, and he dashed inside, trying to find them!

A moment of frantic searching was all he was allowed, as hands seemed to push him forward, ever closer to the counter, and no matter how many ‘excuse me’ or ‘’I’m sorrys’ He offered, he was trapped. Dang! Maybe the others would have seen that person who ran off!

A pair of women are chattering away.

"Have you seen all of those tents lately?"

"Oh, I know, I don't know where they came from." One of the ladies sighs dramatically. "We've never had an issue like this before. Too bad the construction workers--"

She pauses, looking over at Ashley as if she realized she was being listened to. With pursed lips she harumphs.

You receive a dirty look from the ladies that are talking who promptly move away as quickly as possible, muttering about how foreigners are just so rude.

As she drifted past one of the stalls she overheard a group of women having a conversation about tents that appeared to have suddenly appeared. She drifted closer, picking up an ornament and examining it as a woman sighed dramatically and said something about them not having had an issue like it before–

But it seemed like she had been standing in one place too long, had maybe seemed a little too interested, because as she looked up at the mention of construction workers the woman that had been speaking looked straight at her and harumphed - which prompted a dirty look from the entire group before they all moved away.

Ashley didn't bother to follow, instead smiling at the vendor and paying for the ornament, as if that had been her purpose all along.

She thought that she had seen Emilia move towards an open air cafe on one of the street corners and she was pretty sure that December had headed towards a wall - although she hadn't looked to confirm as she didn't particularly want to draw attention to herself.

She stepped away from the vendors, frowning as a flash of white caught her attention.

A cat - and not just any cat because she was pretty sure that that had been a star on its forehead–

And if it was really a mauvian that she had spotted then it certainly wasn't Theodore.

There was also the fact that it was heading towards the alleyway that Emilia had pointed out earlier and which seemed like tooo much of a coincidence. Definitely not something that she could afford to not follow up on, a part of her hoping that both Emilia and December had spotted the maybe mauvian too.

Travelling down the alleyway, Ashley tried to keep her steps brisk, tried to make it seem that she was on her way to somewhere and totally not trying to follow-stalk the maybe mauvian, reaching the end just in time to spot someone with what appeared to be a rather 'suspicious' bow on their back turning the corner and disappearing from immediate sight.

Emmy settled deeper into her iron chair, the very image of a sightseer. The difference was that she had already taken in the views and the street layout. Instead, she was keeping an eye on her companions. December had nearly vanished behind a wave of passerbys, which given the intent of the mission seemed like a benefit. If she squinted, she could see him against a wall, but she was careful not to stare.

Ashley had moved on from the vendors and back towards the alleyway from earlier. These people seemed competent. Emmy liked that.

While she worked on her drink, Emmy focused her attention in on the cafe itself. It was bustling, although not so bustling that she felt stuck like before. That was one of the benefits of the open air designs. Some of the other cafes in the area could have stood to consider the benefits of that. Claustrophobia was common, after all.

The layout was also good for people watching, and Emmy found her gaze drawn to someone in line who seemed to be greeting everyone, and not flashing her the dirty looks she'd been getting from some of the others.

"Excuse me," she said.

The woman Emilia spoke to was a plump, round woman who appeared to really, really like big fanciful hats with large feathers pluming off of them. She was dressed in a long dressed with a cinched waist and a plume of fabric pouring out the lowcut neckline all the way to her chin.

"Mmmm?" She said, swiveling in her chair, arm bracing itself along the back. Every single finger was adorned with a ring and some sort of heavy jewel on top of it.

"Yeeeesss, Dah-ling?"

Emilia took one look at the woman, who brought to mind the quirky aunt types who seemed to be sitting in the corner of just about every restaurant down south. Even with a different accent, with luck, she'd take pity on the young traveler trying to find herself, emphasis on the young. Emmy could play into that. Today's outfit was something she'd worn in college, after all.

She fluttered her eyelids jut a little. "So, I'm doing the tour of England," she said, deciding to keep things simple for now. "I was wondering if there's anything here in Witzend that I just need to see?"

"Oh HooonEEy." The affliction of the older woman's voice changed as she dragged out each and every syllable to fit her whims. Her hand lifted to press against her mouth in contemplation.

"Weeeeeell," she sighed, shaking her head and looking up into the sky almost wistfully. "Things have NOT been what they used to be." She clucked her tongue in a half disappointed half offended manner before she was waving that ring covered hand this way and that.

"Do be a deeeaar, don't go alone anywhere." She tossed a sidelong glance at her companion who sipped on their tea.

"But if you muuuuust." Nails tapped against the bar of the chair when she settled back against it. "Do get some tea from Alice's."

Emmy waited for the woman to finish speaking, clasping her hands primly in her lap in an attempt to look proper. Attentive. Obedient, even. It was difficult to fully focus with the way the woman's jeweled hands were flapping around. Silently, Emmy thought she could benefit from learning some more precision. She wasn't going to make the same mistakes with her own body language.

She blinked a few times when the woman mentioned danger, letting her jaw drop half an inch. "Really?" she asked, trying to squeeze all her sympathy in that word before she moved onto business. "It seems so nice here, and the websites said that safety was okay. Did something happen?"

She held her tongue about the fires. She was new in town, after all. Instead, she smiled. "But I can stick with my friends. You said Alice's? I'll remember that."
