His leg was stuck.

This wasn't unusual by any stretch of the imagination, because Nathaniel seemed to keep getting into these predicaments - especially when he wasn't paying attention - but it was happening more and more frequently, possibly because of recent events that kept his mind otherwise occupied.

Like being sucked into a bottle. Or getting magic thrown at him by a senshi with a lot of frills (really he just hoped she was okay, she'd seemed a little grumpy...)

His leg getting stuck was also part of his distracted mind. Nathaniel had been working a landscaping job at one of Destiny City's local art gardens where there were tall, brass statues and enormous twisted conglomerations of metal that people stood in front of and praised. Nathaniel didn't really get it, but then again, he wasn't there to stare at the art, he was there to make sure the garden itself looked nice.

Which had all been going fine and dandy until he'd gotten his leg stuck in a shrub.he'd been trimming.

He lay now on his back in the grass, his small shears, a basket of flowers, and several broken twigs all scattered around him. Nathaniel's leg was propped up, the fabric of his jeans twisted around his ankle, rendering him relatively useless on the ground. He probably could have sat up and tried to loosen it himself, but instead he was just lying there staring at the gauzy blue sky above him.

It was kinda nice. Hopefully no one would step on him.

He'd been tasked with dropping off a few flyers for the upcoming food drive to various buildings owned by the city. He normally was used to leaving stacks in various local businesses (with their permission, of course) but he'd been late to the meet-up this afternoon thanks to a flat tire on his bike, so he'd been stuck with the boring spots.

City Hall, the library, the art gardens, all the normal, touristy stuff.

His third stop was the larger art garden, a good half mile from the library he'd just come from.

Stack of papers pressed against his chest, he made his way up the walkway towards the front of the building when he paused for a moment at the sight a few yards away from him. A young man was sprawled out on his back -- Ryan would have assumed he was sunbathing or enjoying the day but he lacked the blanket beneath him, any sort of accessory and his leg was... very much distinctly shoved into the bushes ahead of him.

Stepping off the pathway, brows furrowed as he made his way towards the rather relaxed looking man with his foot dangling in the air.

"Are you.... are you okay there, friend?"

It took Nathaniel an inordinate amount of time to realize that someone was talking to him.

He turned his head, squinting upwards, but the sun was behind whoever was speaking, and all he could make out was light colored hair and something that appeared to be a stack of papers carried in his arms. Or maybe it was a box, he wasn't quite sure.

"Oh, sure," Nathaniel replied. "Though, to be honest, I'm not quite sure how I got into this predicamen' in the first place. I was just tendin' to some of the shrubs and then someone knocked into me and then I was kinda leanin' forward, or somethin', I'm not actually sure how, and, well..."

He waved a hand carelessly, clearly indicating it was no big deal. As though people got their legs stuck in shrubbery all the time.

"If you're not doin' anythin', though, I might need a bit of help gettin' out. I think. I probably could have done it myself but it's a weird kinda angle."

Light colored brows furrowed as he looked down at the young man explaining his situation, violet eyes glancing every now and then at the captured leg, which seemed very... well. Stuck.

For a guy who'd found himself in a prickly position, he certainly didn't seem very concerned about getting out. Which, to be fair, was probably the best attitude to have instead of say, flailing around or yelling frantically.

At the suggestion of help, it took Ryan a moment for his mind to register that his service had been requested and in no time at all, he was nodding his head. "Yeah! Sure -- of course, don't worry, buddy, I've got you."

The papers were set aside, their stack going slightly askew as knees nudged against them. Leaning towards the bushes, he reached in and carefully wrestled with the branches of the shrub, working from where the caught ankle was pinned.

"You've... got it in here pretty good..."

His tongue poked its way out the side of his mouth, out of habit, as he focused on breaking the offending branch. One tug, then two, then... crack!

"There!"

At some point in his life, Nathaniel had learned that getting too worked up about things inevitably led to Bad Endings. He wasn't exactly complacent about things, but he did mostly just try to work with them as they came instead of resisting everything with all the stubbornness of a mule with a bad leg. Que sera sera and all that jazz.

It took only a few minutes for the other to help get his leg free. Nathaniel felt the branches loosen, then snap, and he pulled his leg free, giving it a little shake in order to get the leaves off before rolling himself onto his side and sitting up, brushing grass out of his hair.

Now that he was actually upright and vertical, he could see that his savior was a tall, blond haired man with violet eyes; a cheerful looking guy, or rather, someone who looked as though they were a hard worker, somehow. That sort of easygoing face.

Nathaniel stuck out a hand. "Thanks," he said, smiling. "I'm Nathaniel. I work kinda as a groundskeeper for this place n' all that. What are you doin' here?"

Ryan felt proud of himself for having successfully de-bushed the stranger, something he'd never had to do before but clearly had a calling for. Sort of.

He watched as the young man sat up from where he was laying, all too happy to reach back out in return and shake his hand. It was a firm handshake, hearty and trustworthy - well, as much as one could trust from judging a handshake, of course. But he had a nice smile and Ryan felt that was a good sign, in and of itself.

"Ryan," he offered in return with a grin of his own before hastily wiping his other hand on his pants, cleaning off any wayward bush debris and dirt. "I stopped by because my group and I were passing out flyers to ---"

He turned to grab one of the flyers to show the other man, when wide eyes looked on in alarm at the dozens of colorful paper now flying every which-a-where off, yards away. When had it gotten so windy?! How had he not noticed the gust that had picked up the papers, right there by his side?!

"Oh, crap. E-Excuse me!"

Scrambling up to his feet, he quickly began chasing after the sheets of paper, each one darting around with the wind as if playing a game with their distributor.
