Lori had been 'hooking' up with Daphne pretty frequently these days. They made excellent patrol partners and it almost always ended up with them curled up a night enjoying each others company. It might seem strange to others that they could be so cheerful and loving after their nights spent on patrol, but it was as natural for the two of them as brushing your teeth in the morning.

Last night as the first night she brought her loving new best friend home though. Daphne had a nice place (and it came with the benefit of not having her twin nosing around in her business), but after two months of spending time together, it was time the two of them met.

That morning, for the first time in a long time, she was the first twin up. It would be rude of her to not make breakfast that morning. And so she pulled on a light robe of her pajamas and shuffled into the kitchen. Looking around at what her cabinets and fridge had to offer she started to pull out what was needed to make some delicious french toast. When was the last time she made breakfast? That was totally Landry's job. This morning she'd get the jump on him though and he could do the dishes for once.

"I hope you like french toast. It's the only breakfast I'm good at besides regular, boring toast and jam." It wasn't long before the smell of french toast started to fill the apartment.

Daphne was sticking close to Lori, almost too close but after last night, she was still a little shaken up. Her chin was resting on the girl’s shoulder and she quietly inhaled the scent of the cooking food, nodding. “It smells wonderful, Lori. I’m a lot more hungry than I thought I was.”

Her eyes were burning, but there was a small feeling of peace that enveloped her, especially being so close to the blonde who had spent so long just listening to her blubber. It took a lot to deal with someone crying for so long but…

She felt better after it all.

“Did you ever think of putting like…cream cheese and jam into the French toast? I bet that would taste divine…what kind of jam do you like best, Lor?”
Strawberry was the only acceptable answer….or blackberry. That was a close second.

“Just don’t…stuff the toast with bananas, those are so utterly vile…ugh.” Daphne shuddered at the thought and let her arms snake around the girl’s waist, eyes closing for a moment as she placed a tiny kiss to her neck. “…I enjoy this though.”

"... I see you decided to keep one of your 'escapades' over night, how surprising." Came a somewhat-tired voice from the hallway. Landry had been sleeping rather soundly, surprisingly so given the general stress levels he felt at any given time, when his well-trained nose was triggered. In the past, his darling, sweet, dumbass of a sister would try to be fancy at times and one-up him at breakfast, usually resulting in a fire or two needing to be put out.

Exaggerations, of course, but that didn't keep him from waking up the moment something smelled off. Luckily this smell was actually pretty good.

A few yawns later, Landry was up, robe over his shoulders as he trailed into the kitchen, only to be greeted with such a sight.

Ugh.

"Don't you normally, you know, sneak them out before dawn?" Another yawn escaped him as he leaned against the kitchen's arch, arms crossed over his chest and eyes giving the mystery girl a quick one over. "And didn't we agree you'd tell me if some stranger is here? Have some respect for the other person who lives here."

Anyone would be starving after a night like the one they had. A little yawn escaped her, she brought an arm up to block the morning-breath from her companion. It wasn't something she usually cared about, but most morning when she had someone over they were unceremoniously kicked out. Daphne was different though and last night was different as well.

"I had not thought of that...It'd have to be some pretty thick bread though." It was maybe something she'd have to ask Landry about now that Daphne had brought it up. She couldn't always be making average french-toast for her lady-friend if this was going to be an...ongoing thing.

"Hmmm, my favorite jam?" Somehow that felt like a trick question, like she was being tested. "Strawberry has to be a classic. But grape is yummy as well?" Well, did she pass? Hopefully the gentle kiss meant yes and her face blushed for just a second before she heard a voice down the hall that instantly washed away her smile.

"You were already in bed and...And Daphne is not another..." It was so hard to say the word in front of her. It's not like they had had a talked about what they were and Lori didn't want to have the talk anyway. They also hadn't talked about her history of bringing whoever home to do whatever with either. It was embarrassing and her flushed face was showing it.

"She's not some 'escapade' either..." In all the commotion she had forgotten about the toast in the pan and the smell of burning butter was finally enough to get her attention. She flipped it over with dismay to realize the other side was a tiny bit burnt.

"I hope you woke up hungry. This one is for you dear brother." She put on a develish smile and took a deep breath. "Daphne, this is my brother Landry. Landry...this is my very, very close friend Daphne. I hope you two can get along." Lori didn't make it a habit to introduce people to her brother, so hopefully he could understand that this wasn't a typical one-night stand sort of situation. If it wasn't apparent enough by the fact she was making her breakfast instead of running her off before Landry even had a clue she was here.

Daphne stiffened a little when the other voice flitted through the kitchen, and at the implied notion that this wasn’t the first time that Lori had someone over for the night, and for a moment, whatever good mood she had going seemed to deflate.

She kept her eyes on the pan, arms still wrapped around Lori, who she hoped didn’t feel her stiffen up. “Strawberry is indeed the best.” The girl murmured softly, pulling away after a moment to look over this newcomer. This brother. This…this twin of hers.

It made her chest ache as the image of Talia flitted across her mind once again.

The way they spoke to one another, the way they teased…it was cute. Nice. It was the kind of relationships that siblings were supposed to have, and as Daphne walked over towards Landry, she extended a hand. “It’s nice to meet you. Lori’s told me a lot about you, so I’m sure that I have plenty of ammunition in case you decide you don’t quite approve.”

The words came out easily, but the normal attitude that should have gone behind them was absent this morning. Next time, she’d be able to tease with the best of them but. At least Lori knew why she wasn’t at the top of her game today.

At first, he was teasing, and maybe honestly a little irritated at Lori slowly ruining his kitchen with the smell of burnt bread filling the air. Part of it was sweet, in a way, how she tried her best to make a fumbling but good impression on both himself and the girl who was disgustingly clingy.

And it worked, for a little while anyway, until whoever this woman was decided to open her mouth.

The extended hand was rejected, him giving a very obvious roll of his eyes as she tried to greet him in a way that, while fine with familiar people, did not work well at all for Landry. Instead, he brushed past her into the kitchen, heading towards the fridge and pulling out a carton of orange juice to serve himself.

"I'd rather eat a shoe, darling sister. And whatever it is you brought home clearly doesn't know enough about me to know that I don't appreciate such rudeness on a first meeting. Sadly, I don't approve of her thus far. Just another blight on my eyes first thing in the morning. Atleast she doesn't reek of sex this time." Yes, he was certainly annoyed now, but what did Lori expect?

Landry hated new people, especially those who got close to her without him knowing. In his opinion, Lori was a terrible judge of character, an idea that was only reinforced by their not-so-recent corruption by Cavansite. And it certainly didn't help that this girl became immediately annoying in his eyes.

Juice obtained, and a muffin he had baked the other day taken from under a glass display on a counter nearby, Landry decided he was done talking and headed out to leave the kitchen.

What an unpleasant start to a morning.

So, Maybe Lori hadn't fully thought about how to properly introduce the two of them. Daphne was going through a lot right now. She was more aware of what was going on in her friend's life now, so she could tell that when she stiffened up a bit she must have been thinking about her sister. It was stupid to think that introducing her own twin to her would go well. Landry was a very private person, he didn't easily accept outsiders. You could hardly blame him after the way they were treated by their own family after what happened to their parents.

It was nice to see that Daphne was trying to be a bit teasing, but the words didn't quite come out right and they sent Landry into a spiral. Though, his words once again dyed her face a bright red, a mix of embarrassment for what Daphne would think of her now, and anger at him for even saying them.

She couldn't even manage to say anything to him before he left. Her mind was racing and she was sad. Sad that they two of them were not off to a good start. Whatever was happening between her and Daphne, it was the first time she actually cared if her brother liked her or not. The same applied to Daphne as well.

Lori went around to hold onto her dear friend, unsure exactly what was going through her mind after Landry brushed her away. "I'm sorry. We've been through a lot in recent years and Landry's answer to everything is to shut people out. He's protective is all. But...he'll come around when he sees how much I care about you." And she did care, she cared so much that she had completely forgotten about that new piece of french toast that was turning a very crispy black color underneath and tainting Landry's precious kitchen.

Normally, Daphne could take a good brush off and not really be upset about it. Normally Daphne could laugh things off, but when this stupid…no good…low life…boy decided to not only ignore her greeting, but also work to make sure she felt like s**t…she felt her eyes begin to burn again.

Oh, what she wouldn’t give to just shove a hand in his chest and rip out his starseed.

Maybe that would make a good breakfast.

Though, she was sure that it would make an enemy of Lori…and that would be a shame but…from what it sounded like…she was just one of many nightly conquests. If it didn’t make her an enemy though…at least she’d be able to provide comfort for losing a twin…

“Ah. It’s fine. Don’t worry about it, Lor. I um. I should get home though. I have some things to get done today and…” Her voice grew thick for a moment, though she shoved the emotions away, clearing her throat.

“Thank you for a nice night, okay? We’ll meet up again soon…and um. Next time…we’ll corrupt the b***h and steal the starseeds and…do all of the things, yeah?”

She couldn’t quite meet the other girl’s eyes, and forced a bright smile before pulling away. “Just…shoot me a message when you want to meet up again…I don’t…have anything…”

Else going for her? Anyone else to hang out with? Anything going on in her life?

Daphne gave a very false laugh and quickly kissed Lori’s cheek before leaving the kitchen as well and hurrying out of the house. She hadn’t left anything…she had arrived powered, and when she got far enough away, she let the pent up sobs find release.

That had been a complete and utter fiasco.

Lori could tell things were not okay, but at least she had enough sense to turn off the stove this time and shove the pan over to keep it from burning any more of her precious breakfast.

"But it's not fine..." But she was already talking about leaving, even before she could actually eat anything. A part of her was annoyed for trying so hard for a change. Another part of her was furious for Landry, but she knew his rules and still chose to ignore them. It was her fault for thinking he might be civil for once. Landry was so bad at hiding his emotions and Daphne completely sucked at it.

Any energy she thought she had to deal with the situation was completely gone. Daphne was hurt, Lori couldn't imagine what was worse. Her brother being a jerk or finding out that she had a habit of sleeping around with just anyone. Did she think she was just another person to her? Did she not know her well enough at this point to know this was different?

"Yeah...I'll call sometime soon." There was a look of disappointment on her face, but she wasn't going to stop Daphne. This wouldn't be the end for them, Lori would find some way to save their budding relationship. Her hand trailed along the girls shoulders as she slipped away and headed for the door.

When the door closed she slide down, putted her back against the counter and curling in on herself. It was too much, furious one moment for Landry's words, mad that Daphne had taken them so seriously, but then sad that they had hurt her in the end. She had no intention of hurting her friend. Not after everything she had already been through.

In more immediate matters, if she didn't clean up the kitchen right away Landry would storm in here and it would just be another fight. Wiping away tears she didn't know had appeared she stood up and got to work. She'd have to think of a way to make things right again. No screwing things up a second time.
