MISSION 001 - DOWNTOWN WITZEND

    Recon Day Mission 001

Location: Shopping District of Downtown Witzend, England

Debriefing: There have been reports of senshi sightings in downtown Witzend. At first, it's only one or two reports but as the numbers increase, the activity calls for action.

This is a recon mission, your job is to blend in and collect information on potential senshi threats.

Requirements: 2-4 Agents, must be in civilian guises for stealth.

There are no rank restrictions for this mission.

♠️STEP ONE:
You arrive downtown.

It's the middle of the day, with the streets packed with civilians. Shops line the streets and various carts are stationed along sidewalks. There is no vehicle traffic, everyone is on foot and the streets are too narrow for cars.

People chatter at you in various languages, but once they recognize that you're foreigners, they switch to English.

Your instructions are to observe, to see if you can spot the rumored senshi, or, failing that, to gather information regarding the rogue senshi group.

Quote:
All players roll 1d6.

  • 1 - You survey the cart vendors, gazing over their wares while trying to listen in on conversations. Quote Nuxaz for overheard hushed conversation.

  • 2 - You run into someone, knocking whatever they're holding out of their hand. They're angry and cause a scene. People around you become suspicious and wary of you. You find that no matter what you do, someone is always watching and there's a concerning amount of attention your way. (You may only roll 1d4 in the next step due to the increased suspicion and distrust thrown your way.)

  • 3 - You decide to grab an outdoor seat at one of the cafe's that lines the street. It gives you a prime view of the area and you use this to your advantage to familiarize yourself with the area better. (Once, you may roll 2d100 when teleporting after entering step 4 and take the number that provides a more positive action.)

  • 4 - You come across a flyer on a nearby community bulletin board. There's an image attached that seems to match the description of the purported senshi. Lucky you! You pull the flyer down and tuck it into a pocket. (Please generate numbers 3-6 for the next step as you have a better visual for the target you're seeking!)

  • 5 - Stopping at a news stand, you pick up a paper to browse because the headline appears to relate to the sudden attacks within the city. You're unable to read the whole article but one blurb stands out and you file it away for later before something distracts you. Quote Nuxaz for a snippet.

  • 6 - You find yourself a nice wall to casually lean against and 'browse' your phone. People pass by you and pay little to no notice. You blend right in.

♠️STEP TWO:

So far things have been quiet but everyone is doing their due diligence when it comes to this recon mission. Everyone moves from their current position to continue trying to gather information.

Each player rolls 1d6.

    Quote:
  • 1 - You enter a nearby cafe because you think that you've spotted someone that fits the description you're watching for. Unfortunately, you find yourself shoved forward until the door is out of reach. To your dismay, you are now stuck in the cafe! (Please skip the next step and wait for further instruction.)

  • 2 - Someone notices that you're eavesdropping and turns on you. It's pretty clear that you're about to get an earful and people are starting to stare. Quote Nuxaz for civilian interaction.

  • 3 - You're tailing someone, but a crowd of people suddenly emerge from one of the nearby shops and knock into you. You lose sight of the person you're following and you struggle to get past the crowd.

  • 4 - Choosing to move from your current location, you walk down the street and pass by someone who almost matches the description. Reacting, you grab their wrist. Quote Nuxaz for interaction.

  • 5 - You happen upon someone who appears chatty. You start to casually ask them questions about the city and the strange happenings going on in the city. Quote Nuxaz for civilian interaction.

  • 6 - If you didn't know any better, you'd say that you spotted a white cat with a star on it's forehead. Considering there are not white mauvians on this mission with you, your suspicion has been spiked. You travel to the alley it disappeared down and spot someone with a familiar looking bow on their backside before they turn the corner and disappear from sight. (If you rolled a 6, please be the one who rolls for the next stage.)

  • ♠️STEP THREE:

It's time to regroup. As you communicate with each other (by text or tablet communications) and come back together...

One player rolls 1d4. (If someone rolled a 6 in the previous step, they must be the one to roll. If multiple people did, please quote Nuxaz first. Otherwise, anyone may be the individual who rolls.)
Quote:
  • 1 - You and your team spot someone who matches the descriptions to a T. One of you takes off after them and the others divert down other paths in hopes of cornering them.

  • 2 - Someone crosses your path that gives you a vibe. One of you tails them and upon closer inspection, you note that they look remarkably similar to the description you've been looking for. You call for the rest of the team to help you corner them.

  • 3 - Despite your venture downtown, the team falls short. Outside of false spotting and potential information you've eavesdropped on the mission is a failed one. Skip step four and have one character submit a mission report. While the mission wasn't a success, it's completed.

  • 4 - You have an encounter with one of the senshi. Please quote Nuxaz for further instruction and disregard the rest of the mission prompts.

It looks like the senshi has been spotted! It's a mad dash to scramble and catch them. You and your team are in a frenzy trying to zip through the throngs of people filling the streets doing their shopping. If you don't keep them in their sights, you'll lose them. Better think fast!

  • If you have rolled a 1 or a 2 you may now power up with caution if you chose. Use discretion as any of the civilians could be a senshi in disguise!

  • Please keep in mind that your agent is likely unfamiliar with the territory! Teleporting is acceptable but proceed with caution! (See step four)

♠️STEP FOUR:

IF YOU ROLLED A (BLANK) IN STEP THREE:

  • If you rolled 1:

You and your team are on the chase, each player r1d20. You must get a 20 to catch the senshi. You have 3 chances per player to catch them. If you roll a 20, quote Nuxaz. If you roll a 15, you are ambushed, quote Nuxaz. Otherwise this mission is a failure. Please submit a mission report on your findings. You may try again once the report is submitted.

  • If you rolled 2:

Each player r1d4. Evens mean that you have successful found the senshi you're looking for. Proceed to roll 1d20. You must get a 20 to catch the senshi. If you roll a 15, you are ambushed, quote Nuxaz. Odds mean that the person you're tailing is not the senshi you are looking for. The mission is a failure. Please submit a mission report on your findings. You may try again once the report is submitted.

  • If you rolled 3:

You have failed your mission. Please submit a report on your findings. You may try again once the report is submitted.

  • If you rolled 4:

Skip this step and quote Nuxaz for a special interaction.

Any time you teleport 1d100. You may only teleport up to 2 times a Captain/Super and 4 times as General/Eternal. If you attempt to teleport with anyone else, you are only able to teleport once at Captain/Super and twice at General/Eternal!

      Quote:
    • 1- 20 You teleport several paces behind your target. They're too far ahead of you. Something obstructs your ability to lunge forward and you must attempt to run around it and catch up.
    • 21 - 40 You unfamiliarity with your surroundings mean you misjudge when you teleport and end up on the wrong rooftop/alleyway. Disoriented you struggle to re-locate either your team or the target. (You only have 1 chance to catch the senshi after you roll this.)
    • 41 - 60 Luckily you teleport almost directly behind them, they're almost in reach! Unfortunately you trip over something before you can grab them and they slip out of your grasp once again.
    • 61 - 80 Teleporting takes you into another area instead of your intended location and you see no one around you at first. When you turn around you can spot the tell-tale signs of a chase and you are able to jump right back in.
    • 81 - 90 You teleport directly into the path of one of your teammates! They crash into you! Both of you go down. (Quote the person above you for this interaction! Both players lose 1 catch opportunity.)
    • 91 - 100 You teleport right in front of the senshi, obstructing their path! Follow up with a 1d4, evens mean you successfully corner them. Odds mean that they find some way to get around you! Quote Nuxaz for interaction!

OOC

  • At the conclusion of the mission, please have 1 character fill out a mission report. You may simply fill out the form in the mission hub or write a solo/reg for it.
  • If you hit 0 HP at any point, Quote Nuxaz for a special interaction!
  • Successful completion of the mission earns you A Small Looking Glass (This may only be used once and adds +/- 3 to a social interaction to take the positive interaction) May be obtained twice. Effects do not stack.

Emilia looked over at the two agents she'd been partnered with for the mission and then back to the surrounding street. The girl looked almost sickly, which left Emmy wondering why she was even here. Everyone in the Negaverse was hand-picked, and the ones on this mission doubly so, but she didn't doubt Chase, so maybe there was something beneath the surface. It always seemed like there was, when the Negaverse was involved.

"I think we should split up," she said, keeping her voice low. "Less obvious, cover more ground."

With that, she strode off, first just scanning the street as a whole and then the faces of passerbys. With this being her first timme overseas, there was something in the back of her mind that appreciated the clock tower in the distance, and the cobblestone pathways, and the cute little boutiques. She would have to come back on her downtime and try on some clothes and see if the fashion trends were different here.

That was later, though. Emmy knew that shopkeepers who were holed up inside might hear gossip, but they wouldn't see as much as the ones who were out on the street. She made her way over to a vendor's cart on a corner, one that was filled with nice scarves and had accessories hanging off of hooks. More importantly, there were other customers around. She tilted her head for a moment as if she were considering, then reached down to bring a sky blue scarf up to her chest.

Gisela Louise -- Corrupted Super Sailor Noctua

Gisela knew what her companions thought about her. It was the same thing everyone always thought about her. It didn't bother her. Irritation, indignation, and hurt over such assumptions had long since been abandoned. Those kinds of emotions didn't serve her then, and they didn't serve her now. She knew her worth. Cinnabar had seen it, even if she had left her. Benitoite had seen it. Alkaid had seen it. Labyrinthite had seen it.

If Gisela was being perfectly honest, she didn't give a s**t what anyone else thought of her. Those who held positions which demanded far more respect knew her worth.

She knew her own worth.

So when it came to the side-long glances from one of her companions, Gisela saw but did not react. Instead, she only nodded at the suggestion and peeled away silently to do what she had come here to do.

Unfortunately, between the stress of being away from home, the knowledge that she would not be able to attend her therapy sessions, and the lack of sleep recently had all culminated in some fairly incessant waking nightmares. Where normally shadows would seeth and twist in the peripherals of Gisela's vision, now they were snaking out in front of her, undulating and curling like smoke with toxic eyes and wicked teeth.

Gisela let out a sudden startled sound and veered hard to the side to avoid one swiping claw, only to collide with a bystander. Quickly, she apologized, but despite that fact, a barrage of insults and anger was hurled at her. All she could do was stand there and just take it because fighting back was too much energy and she had such precious little to spare. Finally, when she had had enough, Gisela only huffed and walked away, ignoring the insults thrown at her back and the constant feeling of eyes on her back.

Or was that last part just her imagination?

While Emilia toyed with the scarf she'd overhear the middle of a conversation between the vendor and a customer:

"Did you hear about what happened at the old hat shop?"

"What? Wait you mean that one that had that nasty explosion?"

"Yeah. They said it was a gas leak but I heard that someone started the fire."

Suddenly, the shopkeeper looks over at Emilia with narrowed eyes.

"You gonna buy?"

Splitting up had been agreeable with how Elliot wanted to proceed, anyway, and so he was perfectly content to do just that. He walked a couple blocks away, near a corner with a fair amount of people milling about. There were no benches nearby, and he didn't feel like sitting, besides.

Instead, he yawned, pulled his phone out, and leaned his shoulder against the brick of the building he stood next to. Granted, though his eyes were on the device in front of him, his ears were on the people milling about him. Anything interesting, and he'd make note of it.

No one seemed to be making note of him, anyway. He flicked idly through a couple messaging apps, making a note to respond to some of the messages therein, but later.

Right now, he was trying to casually eavesdrop on people.

Emilia pretended to be paying very close attention to the weave of the scarf when the conversation turned to something that pricked her ears. Arson at a hat shop? The pictures that had been part of the briefing had been of a destroyed corporate building, not a store.

Emmy's analysis was cut short by the shopkeeper staring in her direction. Her was rather brusque. She didn't see how he pulled the tourists in with that attitude, but to keep suspicions down, she offered him both a smile and a ten pound bill. "I think I will. These are just adorable," she said. "Keep the change." It was a small price to pay for a new lead and a cute local accessory.

She moved on, trying on her new purchase while keeping her eye out for said hat shop. There were a lot of stores around, and cafes with signs in quirky fonts that took her a minute to read. It left her trying to balance scanning signs, moving forwards, and trying not to look like she was gawking too much.

That was when something did catch her eye, not the store, but a flash of brightly colored hair moving through the crowd. Hadn't one of the suspects looked like that? Emmy wove through a flock of slow moving tourists to duck into a cafe where she thought she'd seen the person go. Unfortunately, the tourist group seemed to have the exact same idea, and Emmy found herself swarmed in the smaller space and unable to immediately see either suspect or exit.

Gisela Louise -- Corrupted Super Sailor Noctua

Gisela got away from the screaming patron and even managed to shake the feeling of being watched. With that out of the way, she could go back to her job and search for the threat that they were all supposed to neutralize.

The hustle and bustle around Gisela was easy enough to ignore -- she had been managing herself in crowds for long enough. And besides, a little over stimulation was a small price to pay for the way the nightmares fled in wake of so many people. Including one person who looks strikingly familiar to Gisela. Flicking back over the pages of her memory, she recalled the vague description of the Senshi they were meant to be stalking. This person was a civilian, but the similarities were too much not to follow up on.

And so, silently as the grave, Gisela followed the individual as they wove in and out of verious stalls and shops, never getting quite close enough to any real evaluation of the likeness. And it didn't seem like Gisela was getting any closer, either. In fact, she was falling farther and farther behind until her target was lost, swallowed by the crowd.

Gisela hissed a curse and slid back into her shadows to wait for another opening.

Abbán Elliot Donoghue — Lieutenant Ransomite

Elliot thought he saw one of the people he’d been told to watch for, craning his neck to try and look above the crowd. It looked like they were headed for a cafe, though, and so he knew he better get a move on and try to keep close to them. It had been enough of a pain to get a glimpse of them the first time—he wasn’t keen on losing track of them and having to do it all over again.

Standing watch was not terribly exciting, and he didn’t think he’d be allowed to have a book or something to read while he waited.

So, into the cafe he went. Maybe he could get himself a muffin or something while he was here. He had skipped breakfast and currently deeply regretted it.

Wait, where did—

Muttering an unkind word or three under his breath, Elliot realised that he’d both lost track of the person he was tailing and managed to get himself stuck in the cafe. He tried to turn around and leave, tried to offer distracted explanations to the people coming in.

It didn’t work. Now he was stuck in the cafe until at least the throng of people cleared.

...Now what?

Gisela Louise -- Corrupted Super Sailor Noctua

It was time to come back together. Gisela had spent enough time away from their team and, as static and silence were the only things she heard on her communicator, she could only assume that splitting up had done no good. They were no closer to capturing any senshi, and it would seem that her other two compatriots were nowhere to be seen. Trapped or captured, Gisela didn't have the energy to wonder.

Deflty, Gisela found an alcove out of the way enough so as not to draw suspicion but close enough to keep an eye on things. Pale blue eyes scanning the scene before her, she drew the violet cube from her pocket and raised it to her lips, speaking softly but clearly.

"Elliot, Emilia. Come in. I think it's time to regroup. I'm not having any luck where I'm at, so we should meet up and think of another plan before we head back and file a report."

She had just tucked the communicator away when she saw a flash of something out of the corner of her eye. At first, it didn't raise suspicion, having been a common sight in Destiny City. An instant later, however, she remembered that she was not in Destiny City, and so the flash of blinding white and the gaudy bows on chest and rump were more... out of place.

"Scratch that. I have eyes on them," was her hurried whisper over the communicator a second time before she pushed herself from the alcove and began tailing the senshi, far enough away to hopefully avoid being seen and heard.

You have encountered a senshi!

Someone passes by Gisela, sparing the sickly looking woman a glance before moving on. They seem to realize too late that the face is not a familiar one and their gait changes, speed increasing as if they want to get very very far away quickly.

Gisela is hot on the senshi's tail but they seem to be outpacing her by just enough. Without her companions, she cannot engage!

Emilia and Elliot must attempt to escape before you can pursue!

((OOC:
Stari & Amasis R2D4; you must get a 5 or higher to break free of the crowd! You have 4 chances!

Sweeny; you may write that Gisela is tailing the senshi, but she cannot engage until Emilia and Elliot are en route!

If you cannot escape the building Gisela loses sight of the senshi and the mission FAILS! If you both escape please quote me!))

The crowd itself was bad enough. All of the bodies packed into a narrow space were not doing anything for Emilia's mission. She found herself shoved along further into a room that was much dimmer than the street. The people were talking and laughing loudly with each other. Americans, she recognized with a huff, and her own partners. The worst part of all was that one man she found herself pressed up against was sweaty.

She somehow managed to hear her communicator go off from within her bag. She pulled away towards one of the tables to hold it to her ear. Not the most subtle, but at least she could be mistaken for taking a call. The news was good. Gisela had found something. Someone, even.

The Americans seemed to be making their way to a table, and although another group was hot on their heels, Emmy saw her chance, pushed up her glasses, and went to shimmy her way through the gap in the crowd, tourist sweat or no. She was here to help out her teammates. There was a close squeeze with a woman who gave her a weird look afterwards, but Emmy didn't care. She was finally back out under the cloudy sky, and this time with a lead.

"On my way," she whispered into her communicator. "Location?"

Abbán Elliot Donoghue — Lieutenant Ransomite

His communicator going off interrupted his musing about how to get back out of the cafe. Elliot supposed he could be polite about it, or he could push his way back out. People were even coming in the exit door, an exit door clearly delineated as such. He figured the cafe must be popular for this kind of foot traffic, and a part of him wanted to stay behind and see what they had to offer. Maybe it was good, and if it was good, maybe he’d buy some pastries to take back home to the others.

But first, he had work to do, so he was going to have to be rude.

He offered apologies but not much more as he forced his way back out of the cafe, using elbows as necessary and taking advantage of a gap between patrons. Elliot did his best not to hurt anyone, and no one was going to get worse than a bruise, but a part of him did feel bad.

Then again, they were coming in through the “out” door—though not a raspberry beret among them—and that gave him the technical right of way.

Once outside, he called Gisela back. “Hey, sorry I missed your first call—where did you want to meet up?” Outwardly chipper and casual, yes, but it got the point across without raising suspicion. ‘Where are you? Where is the senshi?

Gisela Louise -- Corrupted Super Sailor Noctua

Gisela let out a breath that she hadn't known she'd been holding. Both had gotten back to her. Both seemed to be on their ways. Carefully, Gisela looked around to try and see where she might be... there were no street signs, but there were several landmarks on which she could rely. Keeping her distance as best she could, Gisela hid the communicator in her fist and coughed once to disguise the motion to onlookers. No reason to suspect that there weren't more senshi around.

"We're passing through a park now. The entrance was off of the main thoroughfare. You'll pass by a small cafe with outside seating only. We are twenty paces and counting past that building. Target is gaining speed, I think she's on to me." She was about to lower her communicator when she quickly added, "attempt to cut target off. Find alternate entrances. Maybe we can corner her."

Elliot and Emilia manage to get back out of the cafe's they were stuck in! Gisela is hot on the senshi's tail and they have to try and corner them off.

It's going to be a little tricky because the crowds in the street only seem to be getting worse and you've lost valuable time!

You have 2 chances to catch the senshi! Due to the mishaps you're running out of time! They clearly know the city better than you and between all the people...well it's going to be tricky.

R1D20. You MUST get a 10 or a 20. Otherwise you fail!

If you succeed quote me, if you fail all of your tries, quote me!

A park? Emmy thought that she'd seen something like that, but it hadn't been directly in the shopping district they were in now. How far had this senshi managed to get off to? Emmy started off in the direction she thought she was supposed to be going.

It only worked so well. The crowd in the cafe hadn't been some fluke. The entire street was filling up now, and every few seconds Emmy found herself in the midst of some family or gaggle of children. Done playing nice, Emmy narrowed her eyes, gritted her teeth, and started forwards no matter what, bumping into several shoulders and shoving people out of the way with her elbows as needed.

After fighting her way through two blocks, she caught sight of a tall, thin figure and a glimpse of white beyond. Then she found herself shoved again, the other way this time, until she found herself side to side with her partner. It was less than ideal. There wasn't a good way to cut the senshi off from this angle, but at least she was able to give Gisela a curt nod.
