█BACKGROUND ▬ Nikolas is the youngest of three sons born to an Atlasian captain in the city of Argus in northern Atlas. his formative years were spent shuffling back and forth between the rigid dictate’s military family with only one parent and the ever-present danger of a city and military base under martial law curfews and the sound of gunfire in the distance were common. Enrolled at Sanctum academy, Nicolas struggled to be seen outside of the shadows cast by his elder siblings and from the expectations of his father, leading to further strain being placed on Nikolas’s home. Fortunately for young Nikolas, it turned out that he was a so called “Late bloomer” performing admirably in his upper years of combat education and becoming well liked by his peers and professors. Sanctum became more of a home for Nikolas than his actual place of residence but he was greatful that his life seemed to finally settle on to an even keel with a distant but certainly not hostile home environment. Before the start of his final year at the academy began an opportunity arose. Nikolas and several other students had been selected to participate in a foreign outreach program and study abroad in the kingdom of vale at Signal academy. It took very little convincing to receive his fathers permission and along with several other students boarder a transport to Vale.
Little did he know that he and the others would be the first of many arriving from the port city.
The first few months passed with little difficulty other than some minor cases of culture shock and friction between student bodies. Nicolas proved to be a bit of an oddity by taking the initiative and striking up a friendship with a trio of Signal students. Two of which happened to be faunus, Louisa Gris Oscuro Lobos, Jean-luc Foenix and Helen Blonde. The group was thick as thieves and excelled in a quirky but undeniably effective fashion. And then the reports came in. The capital of Atlas had fallen to Grimm. With thousands fleeing to seek shelter in neighboring cities, bunkers and military complexes communications were spotty but from what they could learn the it was not looking good. A communications blackout followed, put in place by the Valian council. Three weeks later a simple message arrived.
The next Five years passed swiftly and blur together for Nikolas completing his term at Signal, he disappeared in to a refugee camp for four years. Only to reemerge dressed in an armored BDU with a Beacon application and supporting documentation in one hand. A heavy rifle and rucksack slung on his back and a fire burning in his eyes. He had been spent the last five years helping his people live and honing his skills in his chosen craft from the surviving huntsmen who were evacuated with the refugee population. Now it was time to make sure a tragedy like the fall of Atlas never happened to anywhere else. Because if it did, where would anyone run to then?
█ █ ╫ I N V E N T O R Y ╫
█PRIMARY WEAPON █ ▬ "Grendel" █ ▬ a reinforced battle rifle featuring three major modifications, those being “dustglow” night sights, a flared magazine well and a reinforced heat shroud for rapid reloads and a extended bursts of fire. █Melee Form ▬ the robust construction of Grendel allows for it to be used quite effectively as a club and features a rapid deployment bayonet/grapple mechashift system. The weapon will piston out a highly durable Super-stainless blade from beneath the barrel at two set distances eight and eighteen inches. This configuration allows for Grendel to be wielded as either a heavy glaive or a traditional bayonet. Further modifications to the weapons system were added by Nikolas, incorporating a connecting socket and safety disengagement allowing for Nikolas to attach a high tensile cable to the bayonet which can then be fired to assist with three-dimensional mobility. █Ranged Form ▬ the weapon functions primarily as a rifle able to fire in semi-automatic and three round burst modes. █Other Form(s) ▬ N/A █Ammo Type ▬ Atlas Arms .50 caliber JHP rounds. from 15 round single stack magazines, Nikolas’s standard combat loadout is 12 magazines with one double magazine fitted into Grendel to begin with totaling 210 rounds of rifle ammunition in addition to three seventeen round magazines for the “Strizh” (2 in a separate magazine pouch and one in the weapon) As dictated by the mission, Nikolas will bring along anywhere between two to eight specialized HEAP-I (High Explosive Armor Piercing - Incendiary) fire dust rounds for specialized or priority targets. The rounds, being specialized, need to be chambered individually and have a tendency to overheat the barrel necessitating a cooldown period after each shot before resuming operation.
█ ▬ Its older construction and design makes Grendel unable to collapse down like more modern hunter weapons. Additionally, the current design of the Grapple system is limited in its application and slow to use requiring several steps to reuse.
█OTHER WEAPONS █ ▬ 9mm specialist "Strizh" pistol █ ▬ Combat Knife █ ▬ “Thud-wumps” variable Dust grenades- Variable dispersion dust grenades usually holding a combination of fire dust and other combustible chemicals in a steel sphere on a 5 second fuse. The grenades operate using an odd two stage detonation system with the mundane explosive charge detonating first fusing the dust contained within in to a solid mass with a combination of heat and pressure. This violent reaction in turn, causes the dust to react, aspecting the now weakened steel casing to align with the dusts element and violently rupturing it. This results in a lethal hail of shrapnel that can inflict elemental damage on targets if it does not kill them outright. Grenade variations: "Fire frags" -critical damage radius; five meters- -fragmentation radius; ten meters- Red hot metal fragments and unburnt remnents of fire dust can ignite flammable material. Also can serve as an improvised anti-materiel charge if placed strategically . "FlashFreeze" -Critical damage radius; two point five meters- -Fragmentation radius; five meters- causes rapid temperature inversion in affected area creating blast sculptures of frozen ice. direct contact with explosion can lead to severe frostbite. "WindRush" -incapacite radius; seven point five meters- -less than lethal munition- Contrary to ones first assumption, this grenade displaces the air in its detonation radius with the resounding crack and boom of the air rushing in to fill the vacuum. It can smother most fires and will incapacitate most sapient targets in moments via pressure differentials.

█*NAME ▬ "Snow Phantom" █*AURA COLOR ▬ Cloudy white-blue █*DESCRIPTION █ ▬ This aura manifests itself around Nikolas as a shifting hazy blizzard of aura, concealing and blurring his movements like the snow billowing around a phantom.It is from this effect that the Semblance gains its name. With training the haze images and blurs will be able to take on sharper features eventually allowing for Nikolas to imitate others taking on their appearance behind his aura of smoke but it it still just that smoke and aura and it will not stand up to close scrutiny. Though, once mastered, it stands to reason that Nikolas would be able to extend improved disguises to others and create apparitions to serve as extra eyes on the field. █*LEVEL 0 ▬ (0-99 posts) "Snow Phantom" Mild debilitating effect, making Nikolas more difficult to identify or target with ranged weapons. The aura blizzard can be formed in to rudimentary shapes. Effective range: ten meter diameter Maximum use: five posts of active use followed by a proportional inactive period
█*LEVEL 1▬ (100-199 posts) "Unseen Phantom" moderate hazy effect, aura blizzard becomes more difficult to see through. the snowy effect can be pulled in to form shapes around Nikolas. color mimicry to a degree can be conducted at this level Effective range: 20 meter diameter Maximum use: five posts of active use followed by a proportional plus one inactive period.
█*LEVEL 2▬ (200-299 posts) "Unheard phantom" secondary sense begins to be affected when within the aura blizzard. sounds are distorted and dampened, creating an eerie silence. Vision is reduced to several meters out and distorted ranged combat becomes almost impossible at this level. When the aura is pulled back and condensed around Nikolas, near perfect copies of another persons likeness can be crafted with semi tangible results. (looks and feels real but any excessive or rapid pressure will break through the aura.) lesser versions of this ability can be crafted up to three other individuals but the disguises lose definition the further they get away from Nikolas. compressed aura can be manipulated to trigger simple mechanical devices. Effective range: thirty meter diameter Maximum use: four posts of active use followed by a proportional plus one inactive period.
█*LEVEL 3 ▬ (300-399 posts) "Phantoms in the winter" visibility reduced further down to near zero, melee combat becomes difficult due to the inability to identify targets, Nicolas is able to create up to four semi-autonomous apparitions in the blizzard that behave in a lifelike manner. these phantoms are semi tangible and able to operate simple machinery but the same rules as Nikolas's previous semi tangible creations apply. aura appears as a solid sphere from the outside. Effective range: fourty meter diameter Maximum use: three posts of active use followed by a proportional plus one inactive period.
█*DRAWBACKS ▬ very obvious when you know what to look for and can be pushed back by an aura user flaring their own. Although Nicholas remains unaffected by his own aura as it is an extension of his own soul. the enshrouding blizzard is a double edged sword affecting all in its area of effect be they friend or foe. Additionally high aura output abilities or covering large areas with aura cloaks are exhausting even with Nikolas's focus on stamina and endurance. all illusions are intangible sensory effects. The semi tangible effects from disguises and apparitions are fragile and unable to stand up to direct blows. active focus and use of the phantom abilities progressively weakens Nikolas's defense, forcing him to rely on physical barriers and armor when in use.

It's a pretty easy fix by changing it that he came to Signal in his 3rd year instead of the last, and then editing the bit about the next four years passing to five. Other than that, very creative, I like it. -I need all of the modifications/capabilities of Grendel listed, such and scops, and the removal of "not limited to", please. You can add modifications/capabilities later in the RP, but they must be approved before use. - With your variable bayonet/grapple mounting system, does that mean he has two mounts that he switches out, or how exactly does this piece work for switching between bayonet and grapple? -Currently, students of Vale are rationed 8 dust rounds. With the fall of the rest of the world to grimm there is a major dust shortage. Most students carry normal rounds and then one magazine of 8 dust shots. The same will apply to the dust grenades, so you'll have to ration your dust usage between the two. With the day changes/time skips usually being about two weeks time you can generally assume his ration is replenished with the day changes. - Also please list how many magazines he carries on him and how many grenades -I love your semblence! Ill get to work implementing these changes right away. thank you for the input. (regarding the dust rounds. that was just straight up fluff. i swear remember reading/ hearing somewhere that ground up dust was used instead of gunpowder. the bullet itself is just a jacketed hollow point. I will edit that to avoid confusion.) as for magazine count? does12 magazines in pouches plus 1 in Grendel (perhaps 2 if banana clipped or double clipped) sound reasonable? that totals around 210 rounds of ammunition for his rifle ) Strizh has 2 magazines of 17 plus 1 in the weapon for a total of 51 rounds.
would you have any suggestions on the timing for his semblance? and would you call a 50 yard radius for a maximum unreasonable at max power? (basically the idea is to figure out the max and work backwards from there.)

it makes me laugh that I just posted some initial edits and find that you have just posted a response smile I will implement hose additional corrections as well. I am glad to hear that you think the semblance is a cool idea. i was trying to think of what is not a direct copy of something in the show and not blatantly obvious in its application. and then i remembered an old saying " all war is based upon deception" plus it fits in with the fairy tale Nikolas is based on if you turn your head and squint.

I figured I would work on this in pieces and posted the edits I have made thus far. if you would like to give it a look over and let me know what you think of the current edits and then I will move on to the next bit.
I didn't forget about you!! You are actually the first person to use dust grenades, and it's caused quite the conversation between us crew on how best to balance it! So, for now, I'm going to ignore the grenades, but I have a couple of other things for you while you are waiting!
I think your ranges could use some balancing. Your first two levels are super underpowered and I don't really like the jump from level 2 to 3. I would recommend something like: 0: 10meters 1: 20meters 2: 30 meters 3: 40 meters
I should have mentioned earlier, but those would be diameter!
Also, you have ratio's for each level, but what is the max post count he can use his semblance for? For example, for level 0 can he only use it for one post and then cool down for 2 or can he use it for 3 posts in a row before needing to cool down for 6?
Also also, I'm sure you just meant to be flavour text rather than any kinda bonus, but a dust alloyed blade wouldn't really work with our understanding of dust, as the dust would get used up, which would leave the blade pitted and weak!

My apologies for the long wait regarding an update for Nikolas. I have hopefully simplified his power usage by giving him caps and set cool-down amounts for his semblance and have altered the blade composition for his bayonet. after you mentioned the bit about the dust wearing out that did sound kind of silly. lol. I guess it was just how I figured they got all of the mechashift weapons to work because they would probably disintegrate in your hand the second you tried to swing them otherwise. But then again, the rule of cool, anime and fantasy tech holds them together. and I am definitely overthinking it.

No worries, I was a little break myself anyway.
For the grenades, we decided they would cost 2 dust each and your character can carry a maximum of 3 on his person or any combination you would like. You just need to list it as part of your post format to state what he has on him when entering a mission, day change, ect.
This gives two dust left over for bullets if you take all 3 with you into a thread.
Also instead of kill zone can you please change it to critical damage zone, and kill zone implies you can one-shot/autokill RPCs.
And the last item is a shrapnel zone as well. (How far away do you need to be safe from damage?)
I have added in the critical and shrapnel ranges for the grenades and added in specialized dust rounds for when he can't or won't use grenades. Look for HEAP-I roundsfor that edit
Other than that is there anything else that needs doing?

█BACKGROUND ▬ Nikolas is the youngest of three sons born to an Atlasian captain in the city of Argus in northern Atlas. his formative years were spent shuffling back and forth between the rigid dictate’s military family with only one parent and the ever-present danger of a city and military base under martial law curfews and the sound of gunfire in the distance were common. Enrolled at Sanctum academy, Nicolas struggled to be seen outside of the shadows cast by his elder siblings and from the expectations of his father, leading to further strain being placed on Nikolas’s home. Fortunately for young Nikolas, it turned out that he was a so called “Late bloomer” performing admirably in his upper years of combat education and becoming well liked by his peers and professors. Sanctum became more of a home for Nikolas than his actual place of residence but he was greatful that his life seemed to finally settle on to an even keel with a distant but certainly not hostile home environment. Before the start of his final year at the academy began an opportunity arose. Nikolas and several other students had been selected to participate in a foreign outreach program and study abroad in the kingdom of vale at Signal academy. It took very little convincing to receive his fathers permission and along with several other students boarder a transport to Vale.
Little did he know that he and the others would be the first of many arriving from the port city.
The first few months passed with little difficulty other than some minor cases of culture shock and friction between student bodies. Nicolas proved to be a bit of an oddity by taking the initiative and striking up a friendship with a trio of Signal students. Two of which happened to be faunus, Louisa Gris Oscuro Lobos, Jean-luc Foenix and Helen Blonde. The group was thick as thieves and excelled in a quirky but undeniably effective fashion. And then the reports came in. The capital of Atlas had fallen to Grimm. With thousands fleeing to seek shelter in neighboring cities, bunkers and military complexes communications were spotty but from what they could learn the it was not looking good. A communications blackout followed, put in place by the Valian council. Three weeks later a simple message arrived.
The next Five years passed swiftly and blur together for Nikolas completing his term at Signal, he disappeared in to a refugee camp for four years. Only to reemerge dressed in an armored BDU with a Beacon application and supporting documentation in one hand. A heavy rifle and rucksack slung on his back and a fire burning in his eyes. He had been spent the last five years helping his people live and honing his skills in his chosen craft from the surviving huntsmen who were evacuated with the refugee population. Now it was time to make sure a tragedy like the fall of Atlas never happened to anywhere else. Because if it did, where would anyone run to then?

█PRIMARY WEAPON █ ▬ "Grendel" █ ▬ a reinforced battle rifle featuring three major modifications, those being “dustglow” night sights, a flared magazine well and a reinforced heat shroud for rapid reloads and a extended bursts of fire. █Melee Form ▬ the robust construction of Grendel allows for it to be used quite effectively as a club and features a rapid deployment bayonet/grapple mechashift system. The weapon will piston out a highly durable Super-stainless blade from beneath the barrel at two set distances eight and eighteen inches. This configuration allows for Grendel to be wielded as either a heavy glaive or a traditional bayonet. Further modifications to the weapons system were added by Nikolas, incorporating a connecting socket and safety disengagement allowing for Nikolas to attach a high tensile cable to the bayonet which can then be fired to assist with three-dimensional mobility. █Ranged Form ▬ the weapon functions primarily as a rifle able to fire in semi-automatic and three round burst modes. █Other Form(s) ▬ N/A █Ammo Type ▬ Atlas Arms .50 caliber JHP rounds. from 15 round single stack magazines, Nikolas’s standard combat loadout is 12 magazines with one double magazine fitted into Grendel to begin with totaling 210 rounds of rifle ammunition in addition to three seventeen round magazines for the “Strizh” (2 in a separate magazine pouch and one in the weapon) As dictated by the mission, Nikolas will bring along anywhere between two to eight specialized HEAP-I (High Explosive Armor Piercing - Incendiary) fire dust rounds for specialized or priority targets. The rounds, being specialized, need to be chambered individually and have a tendency to overheat the barrel necessitating a cooldown period after each shot before resuming operation.
█ ▬ Its older construction and design makes Grendel unable to collapse down like more modern hunter weapons. Additionally, the current design of the Grapple system is limited in its application and slow to use requiring several steps to reuse.
█OTHER WEAPONS █ ▬ 9mm specialist "Strizh" pistol █ ▬ Combat Knife █ ▬ “Thud-wumps” variable Dust grenades- Variable dispersion dust grenades usually holding a combination of fire dust and other combustible chemicals in a steel sphere on a 5 second fuse. The grenades operate using an odd two stage detonation system with the mundane explosive charge detonating first fusing the dust contained within in to a solid mass with a combination of heat and pressure. This violent reaction in turn, causes the dust to react, aspecting the now weakened steel casing to align with the dusts element and violently rupturing it. This results in a lethal hail of shrapnel that can inflict elemental damage on targets if it does not kill them outright. Grenade variations: "Fire frags" -critical damage radius; five meters- -fragmentation radius; ten meters- Red hot metal fragments and unburnt remnents of fire dust can ignite flammable material. Also can serve as an improvised anti-materiel charge if placed strategically . "FlashFreeze" -Critical damage radius; two point five meters- -Fragmentation radius; five meters- causes rapid temperature inversion in affected area creating blast sculptures of frozen ice. direct contact with explosion can lead to severe frostbite. "WindRush" -incapacite radius; seven point five meters- -less than lethal munition- Contrary to ones first assumption, this grenade displaces the air in its detonation radius with the resounding crack and boom of the air rushing in to fill the vacuum. It can smother most fires and will incapacitate most sapient targets in moments via pressure differentials.

█*NAME ▬ "Snow Phantom" █*AURA COLOR ▬ Cloudy white-blue █*DESCRIPTION █ ▬ This aura manifests itself around Nikolas as a shifting hazy blizzard of aura, concealing and blurring his movements like the snow billowing around a phantom.It is from this effect that the Semblance gains its name. With training the haze images and blurs will be able to take on sharper features eventually allowing for Nikolas to imitate others taking on their appearance behind his aura of smoke but it it still just that smoke and aura and it will not stand up to close scrutiny. Though, once mastered, it stands to reason that Nikolas would be able to extend improved disguises to others and create apparitions to serve as extra eyes on the field. █*LEVEL 0 ▬ (0-99 posts) "Snow Phantom" Mild debilitating effect, making Nikolas more difficult to identify or target with ranged weapons. The aura blizzard can be formed in to rudimentary shapes. Effective range: ten meter diameter Maximum use: five posts of active use followed by a proportional inactive period
█*LEVEL 1▬ (100-199 posts) "Unseen Phantom" moderate hazy effect, aura blizzard becomes more difficult to see through. the snowy effect can be pulled in to form shapes around Nikolas. color mimicry to a degree can be conducted at this level Effective range: 20 meter diameter Maximum use: five posts of active use followed by a proportional plus one inactive period.
█*LEVEL 2▬ (200-299 posts) "Unheard phantom" secondary sense begins to be affected when within the aura blizzard. sounds are distorted and dampened, creating an eerie silence. Vision is reduced to several meters out and distorted ranged combat becomes almost impossible at this level. When the aura is pulled back and condensed around Nikolas, near perfect copies of another persons likeness can be crafted with semi tangible results. (looks and feels real but any excessive or rapid pressure will break through the aura.) lesser versions of this ability can be crafted up to three other individuals but the disguises lose definition the further they get away from Nikolas. compressed aura can be manipulated to trigger simple mechanical devices. Effective range: thirty meter diameter Maximum use: four posts of active use followed by a proportional plus one inactive period.
█*LEVEL 3 ▬ (300-399 posts) "Phantoms in the winter" visibility reduced further down to near zero, melee combat becomes difficult due to the inability to identify targets, Nicolas is able to create up to four semi-autonomous apparitions in the blizzard that behave in a lifelike manner. these phantoms are semi tangible and able to operate simple machinery but the same rules as Nikolas's previous semi tangible creations apply. aura appears as a solid sphere from the outside. Effective range: fourty meter diameter Maximum use: three posts of active use followed by a proportional plus one inactive period.
█*DRAWBACKS ▬ very obvious when you know what to look for and can be pushed back by an aura user flaring their own. Although Nicholas remains unaffected by his own aura as it is an extension of his own soul. the enshrouding blizzard is a double edged sword affecting all in its area of effect be they friend or foe. Additionally high aura output abilities or covering large areas with aura cloaks are exhausting even with Nikolas's focus on stamina and endurance. all illusions are intangible sensory effects. The semi tangible effects from disguises and apparitions are fragile and unable to stand up to direct blows. active focus and use of the phantom abilities progressively weakens Nikolas's defense, forcing him to rely on physical barriers and armor when in use.
