It seemed like every year Valentines day came faster and faster and as much as he was prepared Pat still felt like he wasn’t prepared. He had already gotten some fancy pants restaurant reservations and the gift for Fiona but as the day got closer he realized that he had more people then just Fi to celebrate. Even if it was just a ‘Friends’ gift or ‘Just thinking of you’ card, if his wallet could handle it that is.

Fate seemed to smile on him as he was strolling by the university on his way back from a small business he liked to frequent. He paused at the sight of a booth full of colorful blooms and a small army of young women sporting Greek letters. It didn’t take long to figure out what was going on, the sorority ladies were pretty vocal in their spiel. The flowers were for sale for ‘your friend or loved one’ and all the proceeds go towards their fundraiser, in other words, for a good cause. It was perfect! He shifted his bag of small little gifts that he had picked up and approached the table, nodding silently to the chipper blonde who greeted him.

The flowers were a wild festival of colors, some truly surprising. The only thing keeping the entire table from being such a riot were the limited types of plants to choose from. Pat figured it was to keep cost down. After all selling rainbow flowers couldn’t have been cheep, even if they were carnations. Now he just needed to keep his own costs down, a much much harder challenge then one would expect. He had quite a collection of people to buy for after all.

Fi was simple, he got her a red rose. He actually had already ordered some flowers for her but he wasn’t planning on leaving her out of this particular floral escapade. The rest of the Neverland crew, as he mentally called them, received simple yellow blooms. He wasn’t an expert of flower language like his neighbor was but he did pick up a few tidbits from her and yellow was meant to be something like friendship, joy, and happiness. It was really the only color he remembered besides red. The bright and cheery yellow made it easy to remember ‘joy’ and ‘happiness’.

He had no idea what purple flowers meant but the color was neat and he knew of a few knights and senshi he was at least familiar with who deserved a little something to make them smile. It would just be a challenge to get them to them, his family on the other hand would be simple to pass the flowers too. His cousins and niece got pink flowers, although he half expected Dessie to smack him with the plant. She wasn’t very sentimental and wouldn’t be too thrilled with the simple little bloom. White flowers rounded out his selection for his neighbor ladies and the three women who worked at the firehouse. Those three were actually the ones that carried the most worry for the tall redhead, he wasn’t likely to live down the teasing any time soon from such a sappy move. But he couldn’t very well leave them out of the flower bonanza… just the thought of it didn’t sit right with him.

In the end he spend way more than he should have and was walking away with a small store worth of flowers. But he was happy and he knew he would be getting quite a few smiles for his troubles, and for the flowers. That would make it all worth it.
