The booth was small but the numerous signs made it pretty hard to miss, especially when one was trying to pass by in a hurry. Quinn had a meeting he had to get to and the booth was right in his path, the booth, the signs, the flowers, and the sorority girls. All of them, plus their customers, ended up delaying him just a few moments. But overall it was a good thing since it reminded him about the particular holiday that was coming up. So it wasn’t all that surprising to find him stopping at the booth on his way back to his car after the meeting was over. He was no longer pressed for time so he spend some time perusing the flowers.

He chatted with the girls even as he eyed the colorful blooms. Quinn knew that he could afford much better stock then these flowers but there was something sweet about them. Besides it was for a fundraiser! He could always sink his paycheck into insane valentines gifts later, for now he was going to contribute to the sororities at his Alma Mater. But what flowers should he go for?

“Do you girls have any suggestions? I’m thinking a few for my mom, my…” He stumbled over the description of Rae since that relationship was still very new for him, “girlfriend. And a few for my secretary wouldn’t be amiss either.”

“Well there is actual flower language but I personally don't know anything about it. Do you Tammy?” One of the girls commented before turning to another girl who was currently handing another customer back their change.

“Hmmmm well there is a lot of specific meanings for the kind of flowers but we don’t really have a large selection of stuff.” Tammy glanced at their limited selection. They were sporting primarily carnations and roses in various colors. They had a few others but since it was a fundraiser… there wasn’t a lot to choose from. “But color also has specific meanings.” The young woman pointed to the red flowers, “Red is desire, strength and passionate love so I would go for that for your girlfriend but it is predictable so maybe toss in yellow or orange which is joy and light heartedness and joy, warmth, and happiness respectively.” The college student started to point out the rest of the colors, listing their meanings as she went. “Lavender: refinement, grace, and elegance. Green: health, resilience, good fortune, and youth. White: innocence, humility, and reverence. Purple: dignity, pride, and success. Pink: grace, gentility, and happiness. And Blue: peace, openness, and serenity.”

Quinn stood there a bit wide eyed, totally surprised and a touch overwhelmed by all the information Tammy just buried him in. Who knew that flower color was so important. After several more questions he ended up with three small bouquets, only four flowers each. Red and white for Rae, lavender and blue for his mom, and yellow and orange for his secretary. He would still need to get Rae and his mom other things for the holiday but this should be a sweet surprise for them… he hoped.
