He didn't think anything of it as the other elevator occupant began playing with her phone. It was ridiculous, in his opinion, that people had to go to such extremes on their cellular devices. They were phones, they were meant for calls and, if they must, text messages to shoot a note over to whoever they were trying to talk with.
Using them for the internet and games and music... it was too much. Extravagant and over the top.
When she introduced herself, he stared at her blankly for the first moment. People in elevators... they didn't... they didn't introduce themselves. He wasn't prepared for any sort of conversation outside of "excuse me" and the rare "have a nice day" that cheerful people tended to call out after strangers' departures.
This Adaline took it a step further, even, asking about his position with AI.
Shifting from one foot to the other, he looked uncomfortable as he shrugged, murmuring softly, "Few months. I'm Reid."
His mouth closed, finishing the conversation before it had time to continue on. If she expected him to reciprocate with likewise questions, she was in for a disappointment of ma----
The loud grinding of the elevator cage had Reid's thoughts disappearing in a matter of seconds, the flickering of light from within the small enclosure flickering once, twice... and then going out completely.
".... what the hell???"

If Reid thought she as being rude or unusual, it was clear that Adaline thought nothing of it. Of course, she barely glanced up from her phone, thumbs tapping away as she went from page to page in rapid succession. Her brain soaked up all of the information rapidly, lips quirked upward with amusement as she read.
"Nice t'meet ya," she said, lifting her green eyed gaze at that moment to offer him a big, bright smile.
"I don't get to leave the basement too often, so I don't get to meet a lot of the people here, which seems silly. You'd think that a place like this would have more mingling things y'know?" She shrugged, gaze returning to the article she'd pulled up when the elevator suddenly halted.
Stumbling, Adaline's phone was launched out of her hand, smacking against the metal doors as her hands flew out in a poor attempt to steady herself.
"What the heck??" She hurried to pick up her phone, turning on the flashlight towards her elevator mate. "You okay buddy?"

All things considering Adaline looked really, really calm despite the visible concern on her elevator mate's face.
"Yeah, yeah," she replied, waving at him with one hand while her eyes were glued to her phone, thumbs tapping away to write in the google search bar.
What to do when stuck in an elevator, she typed, then hit enter.
"Google says take a deep breath." Adaline looked over toward Reid then, shining her flashlight in his face. "I don't think opening the door would be a good idea if we're between things but, like, sure why not."
She shuffled forward and hit a couple of buttons, they did nothing. She looked back at her screen. "Uh, there's supposed to be a call button, do you see it?"

Reid flinched at that, face confused as if hearing curse words come out of a lady's mouth was the very last thing he was expecting to hear. Being called an a** didn't help matters -- well actually, it probably did because he managed to put two and two together to figure out that snapping at one another in a closed box was not going to help their situation by any means.
"Sorry," he mumbled, shrugging his shoulders as he leaned over to examine the buttons. "Not really good in tight spots."
His hand moved out to test the buttons but, like with her attempts, he failed to do anything with it. There was no phone, no emergency line... crap.
"Maybe try calling 911?" He offered, glancing up at the blue haired girl, whose face was illuminated by the glow of her cell phone. "At least that way they'll know there's folks stuck in here?"
