In every facet of her life, she loved to plan. She would plan for upcoming school semesters by purchasing the books in advance and read up on lessons far before the class actually would start. She read up on all the material she needed for her tutoring subjects, she even purchased Christmas presents months in advance, each one tucked away safe and sound in a section of the small closet in her one bedroom apartment.
When it came to figuring out a present to send all of her friends when Valentine’s Day arrived, it wasn’t hard for Sophie to figure something out. She normally didn’t bother with the holiday (after all, there was only one person she wanted to send something to and she’d always chickened out when considering it). This year… this year she had some actual friends to think about and the notion warmed the cockles of her heart. How many years had it taken her before she’d finally found a collection of people to call her own? And all it took was some magical cat to tell her she was some sort of magical school girl….
Whatever the reason was, it had led her to having more of a social life than she’d ever imagined herself having. None of them were obligated to hang around her - they actually invited her. Sweet Fiona and her boyfriend, funny Zach and Khaleel; Sophie couldn’t help but wonder if her relationship with them was similar to having brothers. Jack was new but she seemed just as sweet -- and who could forget little Itsuki, with his friendly, cheerful demeanor and helpful attitude?
Having a handful of people to shop for was difficult… well, at least it was difficult at first. This wasn’t like elementary school or junior high anymore. People didn’t just buy each other valentines… did they? She didn’t have a very good point of reference aside from seeing dating couples sharing the special day with one another, or sometimes when a passionately romantic boy would sneak into one of her classes to give his girlfriend some flowers or a teddy bear or something - no doubt to impress everyone else watching.
Not that anyone ever snuck into class to bring her anything.
Something sweet and easy seemed best. Something small, as a thank you to all of them for being such sweet friends.
So when she left school one afternoon and saw one of the local sororities selling flowers for one of their annual fundraisers, Sophie knew exactly what she was going to plan. Giving them a flower would be a nice gesture that no one could read too much into… she wouldn’t look too desperate or happy to have her new friendships, right?
She found a purple one that made her think of Elara’s fuku - how appropriate, all things considered. Paying the girl at the booth the appropriate amount of change (in exact dollar amount, no less), Sophie was pleased with her spur of the moment decision. Now all she needed to do was plan a distribution…
… and maybe Austin would even get one this year, if she could muster up the courage to deliver it.
