You and a small group of others have chosen to explore the thin pine forest. Where you stand now, there is only a bare-limbed pine tree every metre or so, but you can see it won't take long before you'll be in a maze of pines and oaks. It may be wise to leave a trail or make your own map, but either way there is a whole lot of branches and leaf-strewn ground to investigate for clues.

You may only participate in this thread if you signed up for the Forest location. The objective of this game is to explore the map and uncover clues regarding the disappearance of Dr. Horn's expedition. To explore, move to a square adjacent to your current square. You may move up or down, or left or right, but NOT diagonally. tab Example: If your current position is 3, you can only move to 2, 8 or 4. You start at square 5, regardless of when you join the game. You have one free exploration post per day. If you write 250 words with or since your last exploration post, you may explore again after you receive an update of your current location from the mule. The mule will update three times throughout the day, quoting you with any discoveries you have made. When you are quoted you will be informed if you have not hit the word count minimum. At the end of the day, the mule will quote everyone with their current location, regardless of whether they have explored or not. Only ever respond to a prompt that you have quoted for. If you suspect that you were missed for a prompt, please contact staff. In each exploration post, please clearly note what squares you are moving to and from. Your RP response will be to the prompt you are given for your new square. tab For the first day, your 'prompt' is the description above. If a trinket or familiar is posted in your prompt, you may claim it! You may only claim each trinket or familiar once. You may only RP with others who either share your current square or are adjacent to it. You may make additional RP posts for flavour/interaction with other players without exploring a new square. These posts can contribute to your word count for extra daily moves. This thread closes on February 15th at 11pm EST. The amount of clues found as a team will affect the meta.

Character: Oiche Current Square: 5 to 10 Response: Somehow she had survived the carriage ride. She thought she was doing pretty well but the incident where she could tell they didn’t quite believe her, kind of weighed on her and brought down her mood just a tiny bit. So she had escaped to the roof, now they were finally at their destination and broken off into different groups to explore the area. She wasn’t sure why she had decided on the forest but here she was standing there and looking into the forest. It was bare at the moment but the further they explored the denser and more complicated the path would get. When her father went out to document and gather research they tended to go to some rather interesting places. Oiche was pretty good at making a map and leaving little markers to backtrack.
However they had a professor to find, and to do that clues would be needed. Sitting here just thinking about it wouldn’t get the professor found. Taking a deep breath she stepped out on her journey trying to see if there was anything of note. Nothing yet, just bare pine trees that smelt somewhat pleasant. Squatting down carefully she looked at the pine needles and branches that had fallen to the ground, nothing looked out of place but due to her mutation she needed to look carefully at least until she was further in the forest and could take the shades off hopefully. She also made sure her bag was full of everything she needed for the long day of searching. She didn’t want to disappear here too.

Character: Isley Current Square: 5 to 4 Response: Isley stepped out of the carriage and stretched her body. She couldn't believe that that trip felt longer then it should have. She looked around to see what she could see. There where other walking around and other starting off on the search. She looked up in the sky to see the sun coming through random openings throughout the trees. "Well I better start looking." She started to head off to a path. Hoping to find any sign of the professor.

Character: Troy Current Square: 5 to 10 Response: Finally getting off of the carriage and figuring out who was going where was only the first step....now was going to be the more difficult part. As ideal as it might have been, it was unrealistic to have everyone stay together to cover enough ground that seemed to span the forest ahead of them. He only hoped people would somehow manage to keep track of where they were going; he had a plan for himself to help whoever he ended up with. He had a notebook and compass tool in one pocket and his utility knife in the other, pulling out the notebook to make some initial notes and simple sketches to mark the start of the journey.
After seeing a couple of potential paths, he chose one to head down while making sure to mark a tree at the start with a specific pattern using his utility knife and noting it in his notebook. He noticed another had come this way as well, catching up to the tall person in a few quick steps and a couple of hops. "Right behind you..." He said to notify to them he was coming around from behind them so they didn't get spooked or back into him. "Do you have prior tracking experience?" He asked curiously, also taking his time to look at the forest floor and the trees to look for signs that someone else had been here...and possibly left a trail of their own.

Character: Raliegh Current Square: 5 to 4 Response: Raliegh climbed out of the carriage. Taking his glasses off of the bridge of his nose and cleaning them with the microfiber square that he had tucked in the inside of his suit. Yes, he was wearing his full three-piece suit, surely not the best exploring outfit but he wouldn't be caught dead in shorts. He looked around at the ragtag group that had exited with him. "Tally-Ho adventurous great things wait!" He let out a fanggy smile before looking around and attempting to get some sort of bearings. Everything looked very much the same here and he was immediately worried about getting lost.
"Luckily a true scholar never leaves unprepared." He took a tiny notebook with a pencil attached to it and marked an X for a starting point. Alright, he looked up at the sun. If he followed the path it should go in a straight line, right? He felt like he had read that somewhere. He had his head looking up at the sun, which as anyone with a good head on their shoulders knows is NOT a good thing to do. He had to quickly shut his eyes as they started to water.
"Ope" He bumped into something, he assumed it was a tree and held his hands out but what he felt was NOT a pine tree. It was soft, and... warm, and OH! His eyes flew open and he began to stammer. "Oh m-m-my I AM so... I didn't I mean, I couldn't..." He was pretty sure he had just felt up the Kumiho in front of him and his face began to turn red behind his glasses.

Character: Isley Current Square: RP response Response: Isley bent over to look at the ground to see if she could find anything. When she didn't find anything she grabbed a notebook from from her bag. When she opened the book she pulled a piece of paper out and opened it. On the piece of paper was a map of the forest. She grabbed her pen and crossed a X on the area that she was located on. "Well nothing here."
When Isley was about to put her pen and her notebook back in her bag. Something bumped right into her that made her drop her stuff. She quickly turned around and something grabbed her leg. Her face started to turn pink from being embarrassed. When she looked down it was a gentleman. She noticed he was a hybrid maybe Grimm and Fallen. Then his hand started moving and her face turned from pink to red. Right before she was going to say something she watched him grabbed his glasses. " Its ok sir. No harm done. It was just a accident." She put her hand out to help him up.

Character: Raliegh Current Square: 5 to 4 Response: Raliegh Looked down at the ground. "I was just uh. using the suns patterns to track where exactly I am in the forest. It's... something I read. I should have read the 'don't stare directly at the sun part'. " He let out a soft fake chuckle. "I suppose we should do some investigating, partying up might help us cover more ground in this area, were more likely to find something. that is if you don't mind hanging around the guy who just uh... compromised your dignity."
Raliegh pushed the glasses up on the bridge of his nose, before gently taking a branch in his hands. "These appear to be Pinus nigra a tall thin pine tree, this is a large cluster majority of the forest I see seems to be of this variety."

Character: Max Current Square: 5 to 10 Response: Max had slept most of the carriage ride to the lost lands the thin forest loomed before them with bare-limbed pine trees and oaks he wondered what they would find in this maze of trees. He chose a direction and headed off into the woods to see what he could find, he noticed that a group had decided to go in one direction so he followed after a hybrid who had decided to go the other way. He also saw the naiad who had joined the hybrid on the path. He didn't want to butt into their starting conversation so he walked behind them looking for clues and looking around for a direction to take further into the woods so they could split up and cover more ground.
He wondered what Dr. Horn had been doing in this place in the first place, he didn't remember their host tell them what Dr. Horn had been doing but he could have been mistaken or just forgotten what the host had told them. He couldn't even remember their hosts' name at the moment if he had been told. He shook his head and laughed to himself about his lousy memory. Max normally spent his time with a skateboard doing trick moves and having fun. He wasn't used to walking around in the forest but he had chosen to leave his skateboard back at home. Looking at all the branches in the path he could tell he had made the right choice. He leaned down and looked under a log to see if he could see anything.

Character: Remiry Current Square: 5 to 10 Response: Remiry had decided against going in the silly carriages, instead following them along the way. She wasn't a "social" person and that certainly wasn't going to change with this little trip. Something special was going on, and if there was any chance at treasure, she was going to take it. But she couldn't reveal herself to everyone. After all, if she started showing herself to everyone, that meant more people could recognize her on the job. Which meant she would have to take way more time and energy to keep her identity hidden. Too much work.
And so she followed the carriages until the arrived at some little forest and stopped at one of the trees. She was curious as to why they had, but she could find out that information later. Instead, she stayed near the first tree, and decided to go North to the next one, just to see what was there. She still kept herself concealed, or at least from anyone's prying eyes, and realized that she could only go North or West. "Well... this is going to be 'fun' isn't it." She said murmuring to herself.

Character: Amity Current Square: 5 to 10 Response:
Amity had clambered off the carriages when they arrived and settled on exploring the forest. It seemed the best place to start -- if anyone had gotten lost in the woods, there would be evidence all over the place of the person trying to find their way out, right? After a quick glance back to her compartment companions, and hoping them the best and urging them to stick together in a place where people went missing all the time, she headed off for the tree line.
The sparse trees gave way to a denser forest, and Amity had a feeling that would be where anything of significance would be found. She trailed after a few others who had moved further into the forest ahead of her, looking around both on the ground and upward towards the trees as she went. Her mouth moved silently as she walked, counting the steps she'd taken before she stopped. Amity tugged her notebook out of her pack and wrote the number down, then decided to look around further, moving to the edge of trees and peering up curiously.
"Anyone see anything?" She asked, looking to the others who'd ventured further into the forest ahead of her. She hadn't seen anything immediately herself, and leaned back from the tree she was by, exhaling. "I got a feeling anything big is gonna be further in, though." She admitted, rubbing one of her horns. It was just a forest. There was no need to be spooked already.

Character: Amarith Current Square: 5 to 10 Response: Amarith hefted her pack and looked around at her peers who had also chosen to investigate this location. She nodded to them before choosing her direction and looked around as she stepped forward. She doubted she would find any clues--if indeed there were clues to be found here--so soon, but it never hurt to be sure. After all, the Professor had been missing a while, now hadn't they? Amarith hoped against logic that they might be found alive, but personally wasn't hopeful. Still, with this many searchers, they could hopefully at least find some clues to lead them forward. She would simply search with the rest and hope for the best.

Character: Oíche Current Square: still in square 10, rp response cheese_whine Response: Still nothing, and there were no ghosts to follow either. Wait, neeeed to back track that thought. No ghosts was a pretty good sign as that meant no dead people and oíche was hoping the professor was alive. Luckily some one interrupted her thoughts. Seeing as the others seemed to be getting into their own groove, oíche stood up carefully making sure keep her sunglasses from falling off her face. It probably wasn’t the wisest going off on your own and even though the carriage had been somewhat of a bust, she did still want to work on being more friendly. So she worked on a friendly expression and turned towards the naiad who had called out.
“Thank you for the warning” oíche replied. “ tracking experience...Well I kind of do, dad’s a researcher and I grew up being his assistant. Never searched for an alive person before, or quite on my own before.” All true things but really oíche just had to remember the whole trip was suppose to be an experience and to do it right so that people wouldn’t be searching for her at the end of the trip.
“Haven’t seen anything yet but day is still young. It’s true that we probably won’t see anything, but it’s also safe not to assume because you can miss things that way” oíche called back to a baphomet. Ahhh hopefully that didn’t accidentally push any buttons she was just mostly conversing back. A tiny little sigh and she shook her head, needed to figure out how to talk and carefully look at the same time. She might not find any clues but hopefully she didn’t distract anyone who did.

Prompt for Square 4 The forest floor is thick with ferns. Small birds and rodents flit about the undergrowth, fleeing as you approach. Even so, the air is filled with birdsong and the sawing of crickets.
Prompt for Square 10 You find a worn path through the trees, dappled with sunlight. It looks to be a deer trail, with bits of brush stamped into the earth and twigs snapped off the nearby shrubbery.

Character: Amity Current Square: 10 to 9 Response:
"That's true," Amity said to Oiche, nodding a little. "There could be clues anywhere in here, we've gotta keep an open mind on what we can find." It was hard to look for something when that something could be anything, though... She continued to search through the brush of their area, frowning a little bit. "Too bad we're probably not gonna find a big 'this way' sign, right?" She looked back at the group, trying to smile.
In truth, Amity was doing her best to keep a bright face. It was too early in the game to be worried, and as long as they were in a group, it had to be fine for now, right?
As Amity continued to look through the brush, she slowed, frowning a little. "That's weird." She picked up a broken twig, eying the shrubbery. "It looks like there's a path here," She added, straightening up and looking down the deer trail and the direction it seemed to go in. Of course the path went in two opposite directions, and it was anyone's guess which way would lead further into the woods and which way would lead out, but Amity stepped onto the trail anyway.
"I'm going to look in this direction." She said, turning back to the group and pointing behind her. "Maybe if the professor did come this way, he used this trail to help get through the woods." Or get out of them... She rubbed her horn. "Just a guess, anyway." She grinned. "Anyone who'd like to come with me is welcome!"
That said, Amity turned back, and made her way down the trail, nudging twigs and brush out of her way. And hoping she wouldn't topple head-first into danger.

Character: oiche Current Square: 10 to 15 Response: "Unfortunately not likely" She replied. However as if to prove Oiche’s words to when she said ‘you had to be careful or you would miss something’ she came upon a worn path in the woods. It didn’t look man made so probably a deer trail. The team before were exploring right and if they wanted to find new creatures then following animals trails would be something they would do. Then again they did get lost ad need an expedition to find out what had happened to them so maybe Oiche was giving them way too much credit. The question was, did she follow the trail? Well maybe it was, what did they call it ‘the universe giving her a sign’ or maybe she was really trying to find a reason not to follow the trial, which was silly because she was here to gather research and find things right? So she jotted down notes on the deer trail she had found and added to her map, and just in case and for other people to follow left a marker…. Just in case. She wondered if anyone else would come along?
Well the question was solved when the baphomet from earlier started down the trail. "Yeah a deer trail or some other kind of animal" She spoke up. "I'll go the other way just in case there is a clue or something on the other path. I'm hopefully large enough and scary enough looking most things will leave me alone if the others want to go with you"
Making sure to pull her wings in closer to her, she began walking down the trail, making sure to keep an eye out for anything out of the normal, even if it was just creature signs.
