Aris liked Angus. She liked him well enough that when he wanted to take her out on a shopping trip with him, she'd decided hanging out with the man was worth the potential boredom. There likely wouldn't be much of it though... sometimes all it took to make something mundane interesting was a friend.

It was weirdly exciting to call Angus a friend. Its not like she didn't have work friends and a few friends she'd made of the patrons at the club, but this was different. Angus was Xibalba. He was Mars, and that struck a chord in her. She wasn't entirely sure if other knights felt that way about others from their planet, but it had been a strong drive ever since the beginning. Mars Knights were brothers and sisters in arms. They shared a bond.

"So how is that lady of yours doing?" She said as she walked along side the blonde man, her strides loose and swinging her tight jeans and biker boots. The cold of February nipped at her nose and she wiggled her chin down into the red scarf she wore, her hands shoved into the pockets of her leather jacket. Angus always liked referring to Bindi as his 'lady', and it amused her to no end. That or his 'intended', which amused her even more. As American as she could be, considering she had no idea where she'd actually been born, someone not calling another 'fiance' was a strange thing. Or Beau maybe, with the modern slang. Girlfriend. Significant Other.

At least Angus felt a surety in what he called Bindhi. Aris still wasn't sure what to label Kam, especially now that she didn't see him much. A pang came out of nowhere and she pushed it down with a scowl, pulling back her foot to kick at a bit of scrub peeking up out of the sidewalk where it hadn't been pulled yet.

Simply enjoying the presence of another person who deeply understood what it meant to be a knight of Mars was something Angus hadn't realized he needed. At least until he'd met Tanais and consequently Aris. Of course he had Bindhi. He had other friends. But none of them hit that soul sibling sweet spot. And he'd been so relieved that she'd had time to come and hang out with him.

Shaking himself from his musings, he grunted a little at her question and thrust his hands deeper into the pockets of his coat.

"She's fine. Mostly. She just had a rough night," he said, wondering how much he should actually say. He still wasn't entirely sure what had set off the torrent of tear and self flagellation. And he didn't have the right to tell someone else about Bindhi's personal demons. "Somethin' yesterday upset the lass, so Ah'm giving her space today and looking to see if Ah can't find something tae bring a smile tae her face."

That was safe enough, right? And Aris was also a lady! So she might, conceivably, have an idea of what might help cheer another lady up. As he glanced over at his companion, she wondered what she was thinking. Hard to tell precisely when her scarf covered part of her face. And besides, there were other matters than Bindhi that he wanted to talk to his fellow knight about.

He just hoped that she'd like the idea.

'Rough night' could mean a lot of things, and Aris considered a few before discarding them with a mental shrug. Angus would tell her if he wanted her know, and other than that, she had no way of knowing. The likelihood that it was related to their other lives, though, was high. That side of things invaded everything, in one way or another.

"What sorts of things make her smile?" Aris wondered instead. "I can help you look, I guess, but I dunno if I'm the best sort of person to ask. Unless Bindhi likes cats, motocycles and gym equipment..."

The usual idea of things to cheer up girlfriends were things like... flowers, candy, tiny animals, jewelry. All things Aris had zero interest in. Flowers were useless, she disliked sweets, and traditionally feminine jewelry didn't fit her. Tiny animals unappealing, unless it was a kitten of course.

"Buy me a motorcycle and I think I'd forgive you for murder." She laughed.

Laughing along with Aria, Angus shook his head in mock despair.

"Fortunately, murder isn't part o' the equation. Besides, Ah'm greedy an' would keep all the motorcycles for m'self."

He considered her suggestions and mentally dismissed them. Bindhi might enjoy baby animals, but he was reasonably sure her dog wouldn't. And he didn't know enough about jewelry to take that route. Hell.

"Seems we're both at a loss with this one. So, assumin' that inspiration'll strike randomly, lemme ask ye something else, lass."

Pausing slightly and completely out of his depth, Angus floundered before giving up and simply laying everything out.

"Ye know Bin an' me're getting married, aye? Well, turns out Ah don't have many folks Ah'm comfortable askin' to stand up wi' me. 'Cept you. So, feel up tae bein' a Best Lady? Ah won't be offended if y'say no. But I hope ye won't."

Grinning over at his fellow knight, he personally couldn't think of anyone better to take on the 'best man' role. Aris was the closest friend he had not counting Cordelia. And Bindhi would have shanked him if he'd tried stealing Cordy for his side of the wedding party. Frankly, he thought it said a great deal for the bond Mars knights seemed to have that he was so comfortable even suggesting this.

Aris nodded along as he began his question, unsure what he could possibly ask her that would make him so nervous... and slowed to a stop when he asked her to stand as his 'best man'.

For once, the tall woman was well and truly... flabbergasted. She stared wide eyed as her thoughts spun, very close to an embarrassingly slack-jawed expression.

"You... want me. As your best man." Aris gaped. "I don't... I mean... Yes? Sure, of course."

Her blanking surprise refilled quickly with embarrassed pleasure and Aris shifted, shoving her hands deeper into her pockets as she dropped her eyes to her boots, digging the toe into the concrete to cover the way her face had heated up.

"Wow, um. Yeah. No one's ever asked me for something like that. I don't even really... think I have anyone else who'd pick me, of all people, for something important like that." She broke out into a laugh suddenly as she lifted her head, giving him a mock punch at his shoulder. "You must really be deperate, huh?"

Her cheeks were still pink though, and the usually confident bouncer fussed with smoothing back her fly aways as she started walking again. This warm feeling was entirely strange to her... she didn't know what to do with it and that made her antsy.

"Do I gotta do anything special? Or just like... show up and stand next to you the day of?"

Now that the awkward moment was over and he'd had the pleasure of seeing Aris rendered momentarily agog, Angus chuckled gleefully. He took the mock punch in stride and simply smirked.

"Your of Mars," he replied simply. "That's all I need tae know you're right."

And really, it was. Most of his other friends were simply gym buddies or well, exes. Somehow, he knew enough to realize that friendly though they might be to each other, Bindhi would lose her s**t if one of his exes showed up as Best Person.

Probably not a good idea to vocalize that one.

"Well, traditionally, Ah've heard Best People organize the bachelor party and strip club visits, but since Ah work bouncer at a burlesque club, that seems kind o'silly. Personally, Ah'd be just as happy goin' out for beer and tacos," Angus mused out loud, trying to remember what all would be needed. "Oh, and Ah think y'r office also keeps grooms like me from loosing th' ring."

Not that he thought he was likely to lose the ring. But he also knew weddings were insane events. And he could only hope that there wasn't a bridezilla lurking underneath Bindhi's skin...

"An' between you, me and the rocks, Ah might need ye to help me sit on Bin if she goes insane, y'ken?"

She still felt warm about it, deep in her chest. Such a weird feeling for her, that sense of a bouyant bubble she had to push down, lest it ruin her image.

"I like tacos, and you're the groom so if you want tacos, tacos you get. And lots of beer." That was easy enough. She'd have to think of more, though. They could have beer and tacos any night, it had to be something a little more special than that. "Do you think you're gonna be prone to losing the ring? Should we get a spare set and like, sew them into the lining of my suit just in case?"

Maybe extreme, but if she was gonna have one (maybe two) jobs, she was going to make sure she did it right.

"I can help you wrestle Bindhi if it comes down to it, but I'll be honest, if you can't do it alone, I'm truly not sure my help would be much help at all. I've never been in a wedding or had a wedding, or attended a wedding, so like... all I got is rumors and that one show on tv I watched twenty minutes of before I had to quit." Aris confided. "And if you want insight into the woman's brain, I don't know how much I can help with that either, because like I said, I'm not really what you'd call a typical woman and their brains are sometimes as odd to me as they are to you."

"Do I get a plus one?" She said after a pause, her thoughts drifting.

"I shouldn't think so?" he answered, grateful that they were each unsure of how much actually would be needed. "Ah don't normally lose things. But having a spare on hand sounds sensible."

His voice trailed off as he was distracted by the thought of Aris in a suit. She'd look very striking, he decided. Then, barking with laughter at his friend's confessions, he nodded.

"Aye, Ah'm in much the same boat, lass. So far, she wants simple and relatively low-key. But what on earth do Ah do if she flips out of her mind and becomes one o'them nightmares they show on the telly? D'ye at least know how tae do a sleeper hold? We might need it."

He relaxed into the comfortable silence that sprang up, his own thoughts drifting and wondering if he was overstepping himself. He wanted to get this as right as he could. Maybe he should amend Aris' Best Lady job to simply helping him stay on an even keel. Shaking himself from his reverie as she spoke again, he considered her question for all of half a nano-second.

"O'course ye would! Ah'm sorry Ah never thought o'that sooner."

She smiled at his quick response, half shrugging as she stared down the street at nothing.

"Its just a thought really, I don't know if I'm going to have anyone to bring, but I figured I'd make sure."

Would Kam want to go? He was, of course, the first person that came to mind. It was almost annoying, how he always seemed to be despite how little she felt like she knew him. He'd been distant lately... he might not even want to go. Would it be weird for him? Them being a weird sort of Ex's...

"I think it'll probably be fine. If she's wanting low-key, then that's probably what she wants... just make sure the stuff she does want, that you deliver on it. You guys gonna do the ceremony here, or like... you know. Up there?" She didn't point upwards, but he probably didn't need her to. It was maybe a stupid question, considering if they did they wouldn't be able to invite any normal people to it, but those places out in space felt so personal... people liked to have weddings in places that felt meaningful, right?

"Well, if y'do, they're more than welcome. And if they're so churlish as tae refuse ye, I'll squash 'em."

Chin jutting out aggressively at even the thought of anyone refusing someone he was quickly thinking of as a sister, Angus hoped that whomever she might be thinking of would agree to escort her. He didn't know a great deal about her personal life and had made it a point to not ask, figuring that if she wanted him to know, he would.

"Y'make a good point, but those wedding shows..." Angus gave an exagerated shudder, hoping to coax a laugh out of Aris. "Those girls seem sane and then boom! Bridezillas. As for the where," now Angus laughed, thinking of both places 'up there'. "Unless we all want to wander blindly off a cliff, Bin's planet is off and my place on Mars isn't exactly, ah, convivial. Ah mean, I was some sort o'warden for a space jail best Ah can figure."

Pausing in his steps for a moment, Angus glanced around before leaning in close and muttering, "Bin'll say she's happy doin' things here, but Ah wanna do things out west near where she grew up. Ah think she'd be happier on a beach. An' we can afford to fly and rent hotel rooms for folks if need be."

'Churlish'. The word made her grin. As did the idea of Angus trying to squash Kam. The two men were equally bulky and both men of Mars. And apparently even more alike, if his wonder really was a jail like he said.

She pursed her lips thoughtfully. "I mean, its not the worst place at this point, probably? I imagine its empty and kinda peaceful? Like visiting Alcatraz."

Aris laughed for him then, her eyes crinkling.

"The beach seems like a good compromise. Lots of people have weddings on the beach, at like, sunset and stuff. And she's a surfer right? Makes perfect sense, with her sphere and all. I can probably afford my own plane ticket and stuff, you're going to have enough bill running a wedding as it is. Is the guest list longish or shortish? Bunch of normies or people like us?" She paused for a moment and then casually asked; "Is the maid of honor single?"

"It's a bit creepy, tae be honest," Angus admitted quietly. Sure, the office part of the place wasn't bad, but once he saw some of those old cells... "I dinnae know what those cells were built tae hold, but it wasn't anything Ah'd want to meet in any kind o'alleyway."

Faint frown smoothing as she laughed, Angus felt stupidly pleased with himself. And even more pleased that his beach idea agreed with at least one other person. Smiling, he reached out to give her a playful punch on the shoulder.

"Ye'll do nae such thing, m'friend. This is stuff Ah've already factored into a budget. An' it'll be easy enough, y'ken? Ain't like either of us has much in the way o'family, at least of the blood variety. List is shortish right now and as far as Ah know, it's a mix."

That had been something he'd been unsure about. But Bindhi had wanted a mix of people and this was something he was more than happy to oblige her in. Though for all he knew everyone they were inviting was secretly magical and they just hadn't found out about it yet.

He let himself get lost mentally for a moment, mentally ticking off a list of the peopel they had down as possibilities right now. He realized he could only be sure about maybe five people being magical out of a slightly larger handful. THen, Aris' casual question burst his mental bubble and he thought for a moment.

"Bin has about three folks she's looking at for that title. But of the top two, one definitely is and the other Ah'm not sure about as Ah've not really met her."

And there was another thing he would need to do. Get better acquainted with Bindhi's senshi friends. Other than Cordelia. So much to think about!

Aris laughed at the punch, swinging back to slap at the fist and give him a shove.

It felt playful. She hadn't felt playful in... who knows how long. It was nice. This was nice. Being with someone she had simple feelings for, instead of very intensely complicated ones, doing something that wasn't part of the war. Her grin was cat-like and she pursed her lips.

"You'll have to introduce me to the single one then. I wouldn't mind making acquaintances with a pretty girl. Maybe I can get her to dance with me." She said. She couldn't remember dancing either, but she had a feeling she knew how to do it.

The automatic doors of the shopping center opened with a woosh, air swirling around the pair of them as they stepped through. Aris stretched and then clapped her hands together, rubbing them. The interior stretched out in all directions, laid out and waiting.

"Okay so! Where should we start?"

DaisyMilk
PostPosted: Sat May 11, 2019 5:33 am

"Ah'll introduce ye tae all of 'em," Angus pledged, hand over his heart as he grinned. The idea of helping his friend make more friends was quite pleasing. He didn't know anything about who Aris had been before and that was fair. She didn't exactly know either as far as he could tell. Helping to fill in whatever holes might be in her heart was just the right thing to do.

It was what family was supposed to do.

"Anyone who'd not dance wit' ye is a fool," he muttered as they got out of the cold. Twitching his nose as it was assaulted by typical mall smells, Angus grinned and inclined his head in the direction of the best scent.

"First, we get some cinnamon rolls. Then maybe we figure out what a groomslady wears tae a beach wedding?"
