All in all, everything seemed to be going well for Alya; work was going well, his love life was going well. No one he knew was dead or dying, so that was always a perk. He should have been in a better mood given the fact that it wasn't freezing for the first time that he could remember, and he could actually stomach going out.
Instead, there was a nagging voice in the back of his head. It was stupid, and all because he'd had a dream.
He had someone in his life, someone he cared about, someone he was very soft on, and yet...
Last night he had dreamed about Nick.
Foolishly, he had thought they would have been able to have some sort of relationship. Thought they'd be able to keep some semblance of what they used to be, even if he'd been cut out of the romantic side.
Instead, everything had changed.
Even with Eric in his life, Virell missed Nick. Missed having someone he could go out and power up with. He'd asked a few people, checked the Connections app--it was a slow night. He was by himself.
Which meant, he wasn't being very productive. He'd patrolled around the park for half an hour but, exasperated, he just collapsed by the edge of the fountain. The water was splashing quietly behind him, gentle and soothing, and just the right type of distracting. He turned to face the water, dipping his fingers in, distorting the water further by drawing circles atop the cool liquid.
He needed to be productive. He needed to do something.
He needed to pay attention.

Periclase liked it when her enemies were fools. She knew the one that she sensed was stronger than she was. She could feel it. The strength that made her skin crawl and a prickle of fear wash over her. But…she had been sneaky and he hadn’t seemed to have noticed her up in the tree overlooking the fountain.
If she could just jump off. If she could just jump off at the right angle and get her hand into his chest…well. Then this would be the most successful of days.
She had taken one starseed already…and her fingers were itching to feel another one, wondering if senshi starseeds looked any different than those of normal, drunken men.
Peri hoped so.
“Hemlock’s Kiss.” The words were hardly more than a whisper and, pressing two fingers to her lips, the corrupt send her magic down towards the blonde, hoping that it made him disorientated enough that she could go for the starseed without much effort.
She did truly hate to make an effort.

Honestly, Alya had no idea what came over him. One minute he was allowing his mind to wander, allowing himself to entertain thoughts of someone he shouldn't be thinking about, and the next--
The next, he was overcome with a strange dizziness. His body was trembling and he felt a bit nauseous. He wasn't sure if he was going to pass out but it made him run through the usual checklist--had he slept recently? Had he eaten?
...Yes?
For all intents and purposes, then, he shouldn't be feeling like this.
He seemed too distracted to even sense the presence of the corrupted senshi nearby; he reached a hand up to his temple and squeezed his eyes shut as the magic worsened.
"Oh," he found himself saying, to no one in particular. He hadn't felt this ill in ages. Was it a sign that he shouldn't be daydreaming about Nick? Divine punishment? He thought about standing, but when he rose just a few inches, he found himself collapsing back on the edge of the fountain and just trying to will away the strange effects.

Ah, perfect. A textbook execution of her magic. Peri watched for a moment as the blonde senshi swayed slightly and slipped from the tree, fully intending to make her move. Her arm was outstretched, and she was inches away from his chest when he moved. First he tried to stand, and then suddenly he was lower than before and her hand went right up against the back of his head, with the rest of her slipping into the fountain with a soft crack of ice and a rush of cold water that made her cry out in confusion and horror.
“No, no damnit you weren’t supposed to move! You were supposed to make this easy for me!” She stood, her lacy fuku dripping with icy water.
“Now, just stay still. You won’t feel anything for much longer.” It could be a lie. She wouldn’t know.
She had never had her starseed taken before.
Quickly she reached her hand back towards his chest, eyes glinting and teeth beginning to chatter.

Alya was gripped with his internal concerns for a long moment, longer maybe than her magic might have meant to but only because his own concerns didn't seem to fade when her magic did. He looked at her, mildly perplexed. He remained sitting for a few seconds and then finally blurted, "I'm sorry, what?"
He didn't seem to register that she was a corrupted senshi, that she was attacking him.
"That's very kind of you to say, could you tell?" his hand reached up to his face; he wondered how much he'd been worrying if she could have seen it. He tilted his head. "Are you all right? --What are you trying to do in the fountain, it must be freezing," he said, holding out a hand as if he intended to help her up. He stood, hand still extended, temporarily distracted from his thoughts about Nick.

“Kind of m-me to say?” Peri was cold. And disorientated by his words, her teal eyes sharp with annoyance and malice.
She reached again for his starseed and missed, hissing slightly and then trying to struggle out of the fountain, pointedly ignoring his hand until the point that she couldn’t anymore and using it to pull herself up.
As she got out of the fountain she wrapped her arms across her chest, glaring daggers at the male. “You think you’re s-so clever, don’t you? Pretending you don’t even notice that I was attacking you…well…i-if I wasn’t so c-cold…”
Peri made one last half hearted swipe for his starseed and missed by a good several inches, cursing. “******** it. Keep your damn starseed then. I’ll j-just get it next time.”
She was cold. Every inch of her felt as though it were frozen, and the lace on her fuku was stiffening as it lingered in the night air.
She left then, running as quickly as she could and powering down when she was sure she was alone, grateful for the sudden warm, dry clothing she was wearing.
Damnit. She had failed abysmally at this…but she would try again. She wouldn’t fail the next time.
