"Well, what do you think, little one?"

Haumea couldn't keep the pride out of his voice as she showed Saphirine the Tower. Showed her all the hard work he'd put in to repairing things. Though he'd been very careful to keep her from seeing just how expansive the little impromptu graveyard he'd dug really was. He wanted her to see and understand just how important this place was.

Just... just in case.

Tattooed face going still as Haumea considered all the ways that things could go wrong, he could only pray silently to Metallia and hope that she saw fit to guide him further in this quest.

"There's still work to do," he added, pulling a schematic from a pocket. "The cats who serve Chaos think they have discovered a better configuration and that the first repair was flawed. So you're job is to keep me company while I re-settle the gears that were found."

What did she think? Well, first off, Sapphirine thought that was a little bit of a loaded question, though she couldn’t deny the small thrill of delight that filled her when he called her ‘little one’. It was…so stupidly sweet she wasn’t sure how to counter it with her normal amount of sass, so she just shrugged. “It’s interesting, that’s for sure, Hau. But…”

Quietly, the corrupt moved closer to him, reaching a hand out and lightly laying it on his arm, her eyes flickering around the area once more, before a frown took over her face.

“I still guess I don’t really…understand what the point is…it’s just an old tower, right? What’s…what’s so special about it?”

Because she couldn’t see or think of anything that it could be. Honestly? It was gross. And old. And dark…and she didn’t…really feel comfortable being here if she were going to really express her feelings about it.

“…It’s kind of creepy, if you want my honest opinion, which I know you do. Because you asked for it.”

Children these days... Haumea sighed and made himself pause for a moment. Sapphirine was still so new to this. And he could understand that she would feel discomfort in the Rift. She hadn't felt the call yet, as it were.

Therefore, he would remain patient.

"I suppose it could be considered creepy," he began, trying to be fair though part of him wanted to shake her for not seeing the potential here. But... no. She was young and still learning. In her place, he too might have felt similarly. She would learn eventually.

"But you're wrong in thinking it's only an old tower. There is so much potential here, little one. This tower is the key to the senshi of the Dark Kingdom becoming more than we are now."

Reverence practically beamed from his eyes and caused his voice to tremble so slightly. Then, he shook himself and smiled down at Sapphirine's face before moving her to where she could better see the star map built in to the domed ceiling.

"Even if you are creeped out, surely you can still admit that this is a work of beauty and incredible genius? For all their flaws, the people of the old Earth Kingdom possessed remarkable skills."

He decided that he would show her all of the old journals later. If she found the tower itself creepy, she probably wouldn't enjoy rooting through ancient journals as he had. Which was a pity since he could have used an extra pair of eyes in going over faded and stained pages.

Fair, he reminded himself silently. He would remain fair.

Sapphirine watched him and once again, his words, the way that he believed them…

It was creepy…but she liked it. She always liked when he got passionate. It was infectious.

“It’s beautiful, yeah…” Her cheeks warmed when he looked down at her and smiled, heart thumping a little faster. “You really think this place can get us closer to our Lady?” Sapphirine gently slid her hand down his arm and let her fingers curl into the spaces between his, squeezing his hand gently. “…I know you’ve been wanting that for so long but…I guess…”

She drew in a breath, wanting to formulate the question into something that he wouldn’t take badly. “…How do you know this tower is the key? How do you know this will work…how do you know you won’t get hurt in the process…”

There was almost an edge of fear to her voice, one that she did try to hide. “I want to help you make this a success. Can I do anything?”

Though, she still wasn't fully sure of what it was that she was even helping him to do...and if she were being honest, she could almost visualize Zinkenite's disapproving eyes in her mind and the shake of his head. Perhaps she shouldn't keep throwing herself at Haumea but...

Sapphirine couldn't just stop the feelings she had for her mentor.

"I don't just think," Haumea answered softly. "I know. it can."

His hand squeezed back, wanting to offer what comfort he could. Especially when he could hear the hesitation in her voice. He wasn't great at comforting words, but he'd try.

"I choose to have faith, little one. I have seen the map above our heads light up when senshi are in the room. I have read the ancient journals and repaired this place with my own hands. I have see what remained of the ancient people of Portunus finally put to peace."

The tall eternal laughed. "How could I doubt when I have seen so many wonders?"

Releasing Sapphirine's hand, he gestured to where he'd set up a small nook for her.

"As for how to help, simply keep me company. I've almost finished the last set of repairs needed before I ask Zinkenite to join me here and I would enjoy some company as I work."

She nodded, listening to him and sighing slightly. “You really seem like you have everything figured out, Hau.”

If Sapphirine were going to be honest with herself…she was a little jealous. She wanted to have things figured out too…but.

But she was sure she wouldn’t ever be as passionate as he was…though. Perhaps someday.

Her hand felt strangely cold when he released it and with a nod, the corrupt went over to the nook that he had provided. “I can be your company. I can do that with no issue at all.” Sapphirine sat down and rested her elbows on her knees, plopping her chin into her hands and falling silent, just watching him work.

Finally, she sighed. “…Hey, Hau? Will this change our relationship…you giving yourself to our queen, I mean…”

Though…did they even have a relationship? Sometimes she thought so…but then there were days like today where he was calling her ‘little one’ and seemed to be somewhere that she just couldn’t reach.

"I have been working towards this moment for so long, Sapphirine," he murmured softly, settling into his work. "I know this is what I'm meant to do. I've plenty of time to find my place in this."

He was dimly aware that his words might not be exactly be as comforting to the other senshi as they were to him. As he consulted his journals and tinkered away at the control panel, he wondered at just how quiet she was. There was very little sass and for some reason, it was alarming. And just as he would have spoken up to break the silence, Sapphirine beat him to it. Remaining where he sat for a moment, he thought very hard on her question. Then, he sat up and turned to face her.

Studying her face carefully, Haumea reached out his hand to gave her knee a gentle pat.

"I think, if everything goes as planned, something would have to change," he said softly. This question deserved an answer. Even if he wasn't sure that there was a concrete answer to be had. "But I don't know what those changes would entail. I don't think I would ever stop caring about you."

He considered Alkaid. He knew that she loved him and loved Ate even if that love had a strange distance to it. And as Alkaid was what he aspired to become, it made sense that he would continue to have those that he treasured as well. But what made sense wasn't always the way that things happened. And he owed Sapphirine nothing less than pure truth.

"We can't see into the future, Saph," he said, voice trembling with unvoiced emotion. "I'm not sure it would be wise to try."

The emotion was something new to her. She wasn’t used to Haumea…letting his emotions be shown like this. Not unless there were small kittens involved. Or the emotion was anger. But even his anger…

Sapphirine’s eyes clouded just slightly but she nodded and forced a smile. “Then we’ll focus on the present…and what time we have for things. So long as you’re happy, my Haumea, I’m happy.” She could say that enough and believe it, she was sure. But.

But maybe once he reached his goal he would spend more time with her again. They could train again and get things done…it would be nice.

She sighed heavily and reached out to place a hand lightly on his cheek. “I know it was stupid to fall for you, but I couldn’t help it. You were my closest friend in all of this madness and…I just care for you so much. I’m sorry. I want you to reach your goals more than anything. And I’ll do whatever needs to be done. Even if that means losing whatever it is we have. But. I’ll always love you, I think.”

"Come here," he said gently, seizing her hand and drawing her closer so he could loop an arm around her shoulder. Right now, feeling her against his side and listening to her speak and breathe was terribly important. She was trying her best to be so strong...

"I will always care about you, Saph. Even love you in my own way. And I will always be here to help train you."

Haumea paused to smile and shake his head in mock despair.

"I'm sure no one else will be able to coax you into behaving and I still believe in your potential. So why apologize for caring?"

It was at times like this when Haumea wished that he was better with words. She would always be his dearest friend and one of the very few that he would actively avenge were anyone to harm her. He'd just never thought he'd be the one causing her pain.

Sapphirine gave a heavy sigh and nodded, resting against him and just…imagining that things were different. That things would be different.

…But maybe…

She shrugged. “Maybe if I apologize enough, something will change. But you’ll always care for our Lady more than you care for me, and I respect that…I just hope that she’ll allow you to keep some room in your heart for me when all of this is finished. But. If there isn’t…then I’ll just work to be better, and I’ll keep making you, and her, proud. That’s all I can really do.”

The senshi kept her eyes closed, holding back the burning sensation that had started in them. “…Now would be a great time to go all romantic and kiss me, you know. At least lie, if you can. It would do wonders for making me feel better. Just a hint.”

Her sass was back with a vengeance. But. How else would she protect herself?

"She is my mother," Haumea said simply. "And I truly don't believe that she'd cause me to stop caring about what is important. You are important."

Tipping his head down to kiss her gently, he wished that he could think of some way to make this easier on her. Or at least to be able to offer some grand, concrete assurance. But not at the cost of lying to her. The thought was awful.

"I will never lie to you, Saph. It might make you feel better in the short term, but it would grate and fester and hurt you worse in the long run than simply being honest. I won't do that to you."

Thinking rapidly, Haumea thought that he'd earned a little time to use for himself. And really, he'd done all he could do repair-wise. He could afford to steal a few hours. Rising gracefully to his feet, he pulled Sapphirine up and grinned down at her.

"We are going for a walk in the sun and the fresh air," he declared. "I can teleport the both of us easily enough. What say ye?"

Sapphirine gave a little grin and nodded. Getting up and resting against his chest for a moment, savoring what they had while they had it. “A walk in the sun sounds like a dream, Hau. Anything with you sounds like a dream.”

A dream that she would wake up from soon enough. If he had his way of course but…perhaps…

Perhaps things wouldn’t turn out so badly.

Though she shouldn’t be thinking of that now. Right now he was here. And for the next few hours, he was hers.

It would be enough.

It had to be.
