Alright. These aren't necessarily rules, but things that I and a lot of other people frown upon. That being said, if I or anyone else who states such in their description posts catches you doing these things in my threads or the aforementioned ones that expressly prohibit it, it will count as breaking a Thread Master(TM)'s rule and you will recieve a warning. Five warnings make a ban, so please, just don't piss people off.
-Do not, I repeat, DO NOT take a picture from Google(or any similar search engine), post it here, and say it's, "your character". Not only is this disgustingly rude, but it is also PLAGARISM, and thus very illegal.
I've had people say, "I don't see any copy rights." when I've asked them not to steal artwork like this before. This is bullshit because...
Copyright law
Copyright protection subsists from the time the work is created in fixed form. The copyright in the work of authorship immediately becomes the property of the author who created the work. Only the author or those deriving their rights through the author can rightfully claim copyright.
...meaning, it is automatically copyrighted to the creator(s) the moment the work is finished. Although buying a fancy paper that says, "copyright" on it helps when in court, this is only when someone else has claimed to make it. If you want to use a picture that you did not make, get the artist's permission, or at least say who drew it. If I suspect that you don't have it, and there is no name by it, you will recieve a warning.
One last note on this to all who have done this before: Would you go to an RP, copy someone else's character biogrophy, and then paste it and say it was your own charater? Many, MANY of the pictures you'll find on the internet were RPers just like you trying to draw their very own characters, and by taking THEIR art, you are, essentially, doing the exact same thing.
-TRY to have good grammar. No, we're not going to dog you if you forget to capatalize one sentance or have a few typos, but if you move into a thread and break out in 1337 or with tons of chatspeak, that's a warning. Because it's stated on the homepage that this guild is semi-lit to lit only, you will recieve a warning for this whether the TM specifies this or not. A general rule of thumb is to always have the first letter in a sentance capitalized and have a punctuation mark at the end, because we all know you kids aren't second-graders any more, so everyone here should be capable of it. (And, by the way, I happen to be extremely fluent in 1337, so do not think that just because someone else can't decipher it that you can get away with posting vulgar things.
wink 1|/3 10/|/9 @/|/[) |>|205|>3|2.)
-Do not try to do things to make you the main character or the most important character, such as suddenly finding the pathway that leads out of the dungeon or finding some magical artifact that will save the day. I don't know the actual termonology for this, but I like to call this, "look-I-found-it" RPing, which is, believe it or not, a variation of god-modding, and will be treated as god-modding. "Look-I-found-it" behavior will recieve a warning. If you REALLY feel that this is necessary, ask the TM first.
-Don't bring Gaia inventory items into RPs! I mean, really; how often are you gonna see someone with a pet Yeti in a modern RP? Not only is this lazy to the point of being unoriginal, but it is very annoying and generally frowned upon.
-Be original. HOW many times have you seen a vampire vs. lycants RP? A cat girl RP? Forest RPs? Slave RPs? The list goes on and on. People join RP guilds because they generally want to get away from all the blatant unoriginality that has, unfortunately, vomited all over Barton Town. Likewise, try not to make overdone characters(known as "Mary Sues"). I know that it's hard to be completely original all the time, and there's nothing new under the Sun, but the fun of RPing is doing what hasn't been done before and being creative! It's one thing to get enjoyment from interaction, but an entirely different story to be able to proudly add to that with the satisfaction of making a successful brainchild.
-Try to write out in novel-format. I don't really mind otherwise, but a lot of people do.
-Threadmasters, for the love of God, PLEASE be descriptive! In a sense, even if you're not in the Playing God forum, you're still making a world, and people need to know the world before they can be successful in it.
-Please do not bump. One or two when it's off the first page are fine, but this is a slow-moving place and bumping usually isn't necessary. On the same note, if it's been a couple months and you're the only one who's posted, let it die. Bumping rarely saves it.
-Do not take over threads. For those of you who don't know, this is when two or three people keep posting directly or almost directly after each other, so that after a while, they're the only people posting because nobody else wants to read all that bullshit.
