If someone had told Jacob a few months ago that he would have been spending time with December and enjoying every moment of it, he would have laughed and called them crazy. But…here he was, holding onto December’s hand and wondering around one of the malls in the city, grinning as the boy recounted something…it was nice to see his brother smile…even if he wasn’t quite listening fully.
He still wore a smile on his own face, and the more animated that December got, the more Jacob found himself smiling and nodding in return, laughing finally and squeezing his younger brother’s hand. “You are utterly and completely full of it, Dessy.”
His voice was affectionate and there was obvious pride in his words, even though he was still teasing. One couldn’t mistake the new vein of happiness that was in his voice…and in his life.
He supposed that eventually the newness of the relationship that he had again with his brother would wear off…but honestly? Jacob was happy to continue to help it grow, to see what became of their new chance…to be a family.
…He didn’t even know that he wanted family back until December had come back into his life…and now he wondered how he had ever let the family go in the first place.
“What are you in the mood to do now, December? Maybe we could go to a movie or grab some lunch or something?”

"No, no, no, I swear it was like this big!" December was certainly more animated and lively in these past few months than he had been in a long, long time. He told a tall tale about something or another he had seen recently, a food item, or a fish, whatever his little story seemed to be addressing at the time. Even if he was getting a little tongue tied or his thoughts began to mash up together thanks to his overexcitement, it really couldn't dampen just how elated he felt.
Hand in hand they walked, with December swinging their arms back and forth a little exaggeratedly, but he didn't seem to care about any strange stares they got.
Yes, bad things kept happening, bad things he wouldn't dare tell his big brother Jacob, or anyone else, really, but right now, in this moment, he was happy. All those thoughts pushed to the darkest parts of his mind to ignore while they were out and about at the mall. Gosh, he really couldn't remember the last time he had come to one! There were faint memories of getting pretzels maybe ten years ago but this, this all felt so new!
"Ooohhh, Yes a lunch! Lunch sounds good! I wanna try all the free samples first and--- WAIT!" Whatever December had been talking about was quickly forgotten after turning a corner, hand quickly dropping Jacob's in favor of hurrying forward to a blue-haired man who stood not too far from where they were.
"ZACH!!" That joyous sound that was a Happy December rang out in the rather narrow walkway as he half bounced over to the man, the faintest thought of 'not hugging in public' going in one ear and out the other as he wrapped his arms around the man he had grown oh-so fond of recently.
He wasn't about to say he had forgotten about this lunch he had planned with Zach. Nope, not a mistake at all, only happy little accidents, in which case he brought two very important people in his life together to meet.
"Am I late? No, I'm certainly not late!" A quick glance a large clock later... Yes, he was late. "Oh, and I brought my Brother too!"

Zac made a small distressed sound in his throat at the hug. “Hello… December.” He said after a moment. “You are late, but I was also early.” He admitted before turning his gaze to the man whom was fairly clearly December’s Brother and nodding. “And how are you?” He asked with a small inclination of his head. He did have a curious glance to give Jacob, as far as he knew December had some… interesting family history.

Jacob was about to answer, about to say that lunch sounded wonderful, and that he would even pay…when his brother saw a metaphorical squirrel. A…suave looking metaphorical squirrel.
The male sighed and followed behind his brother, unable to keep the somewhat amused smile off of his face at the younger male’s antics, though he almost reached out to pry his excitable brother off of the blue haired male who seemed utterly concerned.
“Ah, I apologize for Dessy, Zac, was it?” Jacob held out a hand to the male and finally wrapped an arm around his brother, gently pulling him from the male. “I’m Jacob, and yeah. I’m December’s brother…am…I intruding on something? I didn’t realize that December already had plans…I can let you guys go if I’m interfering.”
It was nice to see his brother so happy. It made him feel warm inside. And knowing that December had friends…who could put up with his screaming and his hugs…was reassuring. He worried so much for the younger male.

December didn't know why he was pulled away from Zac so quickly, but it didn't really bother him all that much. They were both warm influences in his life, and happiness just swelled up in his chest as they met. It was like having two of the best people in the world together at once!
"No, no, It's fine! I was hoping you two would meet one day! Zac is very important to me, and a wonderful friend so I'm happy to share my time with both of you! Do you know what you'd like to eat Zac? Ooh, and if you have time, do you maybe want to catch a movie with us? The new Spiderman movie is still showing, and it's so bright and colorful, I think we'd all love it! And I heard the music was really really good too!" Lunch together would be perfect, but even more time would be even better. Those long hours often spent alone would be way way made up if he could spend time with both of these wonderful people.
"And you don't gotta apologize for me, I do this all the time!"

“Errm.” Zac said sounding like he wasn’t sure he wanted a movie and lunch. Especially ‘colorful’ as the reason to see it, which just made him uncertain. He brushed as discretely as he could at his coat and glanced between December and his Brother. “I’m…sure I wouldn’t want to intrude.” He said carefully. “Family time is very important after all.”

Jacob watched Zac for a moment and then glanced down at December, lightly squeezing the boy. He might not have had to apologize for him but…
“It’s all right, Zac. If you two had a prior engagement, I really don’t want to interfere. But…I am hungry so…if you’d like to include me for lunch, I’d love to get to know you a bit, I like seeing Dessy so happy, you must be pretty special.”
He watched the male, making a mental note about how his eyes were roughly the color of faded blue jeans, and then quickly wiping away that note. How did this…serious seeming guy manage to befriend his overly excited brother?
He gave a soft chuckle. “Don’t let me get in the way of your plans. December can see me whenever he wants.” Even though…it did sound fun. Lunch and a movie. December’s excitement was sometimes rather infectious.
“Just let me know what you want.”

Hmm... Special. In a way, Zac was incredibly special to December. The older man gave him confidence, and it wasn't until he had met Zac that he found himself less miserable than he was since October and May passed away.
The thought of just how important Zac was to him changed his smile, to one less excited, but maybe a bit more genuine.
"Please, Zac? Hang out with us! We can go grab some uh... I dunno, maybe something a bit more fancy than just burgers or mall Chinese food." A little bit of an allowance was given to him by his general, that should be enough to cover a decent lunch and the movie.
"I don't really get to see you outside of work anyway, so I don't wanna lose this opportunity! Please stay, it'd make me really, really happy if you did!"

He made a sound in his throat, a vague and contemplative articulation of no particular associated meaning. “Alright, given your company.” He said shooting a look at December including a lofted eyebrow. “Since I don’t do outside of work things, and it will be interesting to get to know more about your…family?” He glanced at Jacob with a small tilt of his head. “Nothing too fancy, If I have to go back to work I’d hate to see it wasted.”

Jacob grinned slightly and nodded. “I mean, there’s not much interesting about me, but I appreciate the thought. I’m just…me. An insurance broker. So, while it’s a boring job normally. This city brings in the most interesting cases I’ll tell you that.”
He seemed thoughtful for a moment and then nodded. “How about the restaurant down at the other end of the mall? The one with the glider seats? It’s a fun place, and we can just sit an chat.”
He glanced at his brother and ruffled his hair lightly. “I’ll cover your tab, Dessy. Don’t worry about paying. You can get whatever you want.” Jacob hesitated and glanced at Zac, giving shrug. “I can cover you too, if you’re worried about money.”
Not that he thought that the blue haired male would be but…wasn’t it kind of rude to offer to pay for one person in the group and not both? Maybe…

December's eyes lit up considerably when Zac agreed to join them.
"Thank you!" While he could certainly pile on more and more bits of how happy he was that he agreed, he figured it would be better to simply head on over to the restaurant. And while he certainly would grab both his brother and Zac's hands to tug them right along, the brushing of Zac's coat didn't go entirely unnoticed. Maybe it made him a little sad and a little selfconcious (he did try to be cleaner these days, thanks to June!), he shook it off and chose to put his hands behind his back and head on off.
"And thank you, June! I won't order the whole menu, promise. Oh, So Zac, is work keeping you super busy lately? Did you hear anything else about the whole apartment thing and the job there? The Cooking one?"

Zink on the other hand looked like he was already feeling worn out from the energy and enthusiasm involved in his current situation. “…Nothing recent.” He said demurely. “I’ve been so inundated with paperwork that I’ve been hard pressed to do aught else. I think any transfer will be eased if you are fairly well caught up on current assignments if that helps.” He said casting a sidelong look at December. “But…surely we’re not going to spend a whole lunch talking about…work.”

Jacob watched his brother fondly and squeezed his hand gently. “To lunch then, I suppose.” He tried to follow the conversation that they were having about whatever work they did, but after a moment zoned out, though when it seemed that Zac wasn’t very interested in talking about it either, he tugged on December’s arm. “Come on, kid. He’s right. No work talk today.”
It was going to simply be a day for new friends, and family.
An a lunch that would silence the rumbling in his stomach for a while.
He had decided already that he would take care of the bill for the three of them, even if Zac hadn’t really answered, and took a few steps forward, hoping the others would follow.
