Karone had dressed nicely, brushing back her hair which was growing longer but…she didn’t have the time nor desire to get it cut again…and she had to redye it again, her roots were showing but…maybe it was time to go back to the brown that she used to have. Perhaps she was getting a little too old to have such vibrant hair…but that was neither here nor there.

She was at Sybil’s house ten minutes early, admiring the rows of perfect townhouses and giving a soft laugh before knocking on the door, feeling a genuine excitement for tonight.

How long had it been since she had gone out just for fun? How long had it been since she had gone out to do something for herself…even if there was a selfish twist.

Her eyes darted around and she waited for the other woman to answer the door.

If this had been a trick…if Sybil wasn’t going to answer well. Then she would have a youma out of this regardless…and she wouldn’t go through all of the motions of friendship.

She didn’t forgive betrayal.

With a soft sigh, Karone knocked again, glancing at her watch.

Sybil, herself, was not looking forward to tonight. She liked her evenings being empty, just her home alone eating whatever she wanted and binging on her T.V. program of the week. This? Going out right after work? Blasphemous! Sadly, she had no choice in the matter today. Not even a few hours earlier she was was threatened into going on some strange outing with a general. Sure, the woman might have denied it being a threat, but it was clear no wouldn't be taken as an answer.

Try as she might, there was no backing out now, and when that knock on the door came, she afforded her self one last eyeroll before answering.

Surprisingly enough, Sybil carried the same air about her while she was about to go out as she did teaching class. She stood pretty much straight, chin slightly up, with no opening for criticism. And she knew she looked fantastic, with her slightly curled hair and deep red backless dress. It was chill, she knew, so she held a nice faux fur stole about her shoulders, much like her Negaverse weapon.

"... I suppose you're on time. Shall we get going?"

Huh.

Karone’s eyes widened for a moment, taking in Sybil’s appearance, and then warmed slightly. The woman was quite beautiful. “Oh yes, I think that’s a good idea. You look amazing, Sybil. I feel bad for not getting so dressed up.”

Not that she looked bad by any means. A pair of nice jeans and a comfortable sweater never was a bad combination but clearly Sybil had been thinking nightclub when she had only been thinking a nice bar…but hey. That was okay.

“I have a nice place in mind, if you’ll follow me.”

The heels of her boots clicked as she walked back to her car, opening the door for the woman and giving a slight grin. “I have a lot that I want to talk to you about. It’ll be a good night, I think.” She hoped.

If Sybil didn’t resist too much. There was no reason not to want a good commanding officer, after all.

"No need to feel bad. It's simply a matter of preference. I look like this, and you look like-" She paused herself, correcting her speech from saying hot garbage to something less offensive. "-that. I thought you had said we'd go out, and I figured I might as well go out with a goal."

Whether or not that goal was to find herself someone to drain, or someone to bring home wasn't stated, but honestly, she could do with either.

Or neither. Honestly, she just wanted to stay home.

But alas, she could not, so she simply locked the front door and casually took her place by Karone's side.

Atleast the car was clean.

There was a slight hesitance on her part, but with her head held high, she got into that car with the feeling of perhaps impending doom. After all, she was going straight into the lion's den with this one.

"It will be a good night if you make it that way, Karone. I hope you do intend on buying me a drink or two, at the very least."

Karone smiled and gave a soft laugh. “Good save, Sybil.” She murmured softly, voice edging on dangerous. As the other woman got into the car, Karone gave another smile and closed the door softly.

Of course she would buy the other woman a few drinks. It was the least that she could do.

With a heavy sigh, the woman walked to the driver’s side of the car, and by the time she was sliding in, her smile was back, cool and collected once again. “Now…tell me honestly. Were you thinking of a nightclub tonight or just a bar? Because I was just thinking a bar, and I know of a nice little one downtown, but if you wanted something more…exciting. I could do that too. This is your show, Syb. So, let me know what you want and I’ll provide it.” Karone glanced at the woman and her eyes took in her appearance once more, before winking at her and grinning, almost impishly.

It felt…strange to be flirting, but oddly satisfying.

It was a means to an end, true but…she could have fun with it.

A small half smile was allowed as Sybil got comfortable in the car, seat belt fastened and legs crossed at the knees allowing her skirt slide up just a few extra inches. From what she could tell of Karone, she was a bit of a flirt. While normally it didn't bother her, except that it was tiresome when she wasn't interested, tonight, why not have a little fun?

It wasn't as if Karone was going to get anything from her, not with those threats. Let her want, let her look, the moment she touched, it was over.

"I was thinking of somewhere with a little more class. I don't do night clubs. All that noise, the thumping of the music, the way people grind on each other... It doesn't feel personal. And you asked me out to get to know me, right? Hmm..." From her little purse she drew out a phone, scrolling through a few places and then deciding on one. After a quick check of the menu (because while drinks were provided, if she wanted snacks, she was probably on her own), Sybil offered her phone to Karone.

"Since I'm in the lead, let's go here. I'm sure they'll accept you as you are, and I will not look out of place at what I assume is more of a dive bar that you had in mind."

Karone raised her brows and took the phone for a moment, giving a soft laugh. “It wasn’t what I had in mind at all, but I’ll bite, sure.” Her eyes strayed for a moment to move over the woman in the passengers seat and she sighed slightly, handing the phone back.

It would be a wrench to give up that cheese bread but…if it was what would get her in better standing with Sybil then she would sacrifice the wonderful carbs.

She began to drive and glanced at the other woman out of the corner of her eyes. “So. Tell me a little about yourself, Sybil. I know what I know from your file…but let me get to know…you…if you don’t mind.”

Obviously she knew that the contrary woman would mind but…she was trying to at least seem like the gracious date. Was it a date?

Perhaps.

Though, she wouldn’t let the other woman know she was picking up the whole tab until it was past the time they were ordering.

"Good. I appreciate you're at least willing to compromise here." She took her phone back and tucked it away in her little clutch before shifting once again and placing her weight on the car door. It really sucked that she was already feeling tired from this night, and chose to rather gaze out the window than give too much attention to the woman who was essentially kidnapping her.

As her lovely little home faded into the distance, she sighed again softly, finding it incredibly hard to get comfortable in this car, in this outfit and in this company.

"What is there to know? Likes? Hobbies? Goals in life? Well, my goal right now is to survive this night and get on home to maybe watch an episode or two of iZombie before bed. I like being at home, being left alone, and am content with where I am. When I'm not in this car, anyway." Sybil honestly didn't care much for talking about herself, but was curious about this woman, if only to know some sort of weakness, or opening for criticism.

"What of you? Why are you looking for some people to join your team anyway? Isn't it considered rude to take people from other generals?"

“To survive this night?” Karone glanced over, raising her brows at the other woman and forced a smile onto her face, hoping that if she acted as though that was a joke that it would turn into one. “What, do you think I’m going to get you drunk and then just pluck your pretty little starseed for my dessert or something?”

There was a forced laugh and she continued driving, though paused again at the next question, her patience finally running out.

Fine. This was fine. This woman didn’t want anything to do with her. Didn’t want to go any further in the Negaverse than where she was already at, and honestly? Karone no longer cared.

“Fine, Sybil. I’ll just take you home. There’s no sense beating a dead horse. The records said that you had no general and I was thinking that someone with your intelligence might like to get ahead of the game a little, but I see that I was mistaken.”

Quietly she pulled over into the turning lane and made a quiet U-turn at the next light, driving slowly back to Sybil’s house. “If you don’t want to at least try to make an effort not to be a spoiled brat, then I don’t want to either. I was excited to have a girl’s night. I haven’t gotten the chance to unwind for a while and I just thought this might be it.”

Now she wished she hadn’t wasted her time. It would have been much simpler to just create what she wanted but.

No matter. There was no point in a subject who wouldn’t listen to her.

At some point, Sybil had pulled out a compact mirror, using its built in light to adjust an eyelash or two that felt more clumped than not. She was mid way through fixing it when she felt the car shift and begin to go back the way she came.

"Ah... Hm, you're surprisingly more sensitive than I thought!" A soft laugh escaped those delicately painted lips and she closed her mirror with a forceful snap.

"Got upset, did you? Over what? Was it my hobbies of comfort? My contentness with life? Isn't that what all humans go after, doing what makes them happy? The greater good, the 'defense of the world', why should I matter too much about it since there are so many others out there with the drive to be 'stronger than the next?" Her legs crossed at the knees, leaning properly against the car door and giving a half, contemplating gaze at the General. Maybe she was pushing her luck, no, she definitely was, and she knew it would be better to recover it than get tortured like she heard whispered about be fore for insubordination.

"Girl's night doesn't have to be a bar, you know. I told you what I did and didn't like, just as you asked. I like being at home, like so many other people. I'm far less spoiled than you assume. And you basically forced me into this, so what right do you have to be upset at me? Shouldn't you have asked me what I liked first before making plans on your own?" ... She really wasn't making this any better... But maybe there was something she could do to salvage the hole she was digging herself.

"Why not make Girl's Night at my place then? A movie, some take out, maybe a few glasses of wine or scotch or whisky... I have a few options. Girl's night is always cheaper, and I can take off this awful dress."

There was a flash of longing in Karone’s mind, a flash of wanting to just curl up on a soft couch and hold this woman in her arms.

A flash of Gently’s face—no. No that was someone she could not think about. Could not even entertain the thought of. Not with the creature who still lived within her mind. Keeping Gently hidden was the one rebellion that she still managed to keep, and that was only by pretending that the woman didn’t exist.

She was quiet for the remaining time in the car, quiet until she parked in front of Sybil’s house and finally, simply got out of the car and went to open the door for the other woman. “I could use some whisky, please. What sort of movie did you have in mind, Syb?” Karone tried to keep her voice even. Tried not to think about all of the things that were said in the car.

This was a failed mission, sure. But she could allow herself one night off for pleasure, could she not? And perhaps…she could salvage what had been lost.

Sybil didn't exactly see the expression Karone was making, but it seemed obvious enough that some of what she had said had gotten to her. Some of the better things if the silence meant anything.

She had honestly expected to just be told to get out of the car and then have the general angrily drive away and leaving skid marks on her pavement, but... Huh, she was somewhat pleasantly surprised at this change. Enough so that when the door opened for her, she smiled and allowed her hand to lightly brush against Karone's that held the door open for her.

"Some whisky for you, a margarita for me, and... Hm... I'll let you pick the movie. I'll pick dinner. I'm thinking a nice, large pizza and some wings. Just as good as bar food, right? And..." She paused with a smile, fingers now reaching to tug lightly on Karone's collar instead. "Maybe you can get out of those clothes too. It's girl's night, and I doubt you're too much bigger than me. I'll give you a pair of pajamas or something so you can feel comfortable."

Karone wasn’t expecting the sudden change in Sybil’s behavior, and when the hand lightly slid over her own, she couldn’t stop a smile from spreading across her face. “Pizza and wings sound delightful, actually. And for the movie, show me what you have and I’ll pick something from there. Though, I’m not really sure what my taste in movies even is anymore but. It’s not too bad. I promise.”

Lilac eyes were drawn to the silver of Sybil’s and she hesitated, moving forward from the tug of her collar.

“Well. I’ll take you up on that. Lead the way, my Sybil. I’ll follow you. I think…this might turn into a nice night after all.” And if it didn’t…it wasn’t like she had to repeat it.
