Just up the road, a man turned the corner, hands tucked deep in the pockets of a long black peacoat, a red leash winding up from one hand and around his arm, up to his shoulder where a small white cat sat blinking wide green eyes and wearing an absurd knit beanie through which her ears jutted, the knit brim having slid down to just above her eyes. She looked surprisingly patient with the absurd accessory, doing little more than clutching at the coat for balance as he walked by, sparing both the young woman with a very generous cut down the front of her dress, and the Valet a glance, the one towards her ending, perhaps more abruptly and a heat rising up in his cheeks that had little to do with the brisk wind picking up to toy with the hem of skirts and ruffle hair.

For all his embarrassment, he, and humorously the cat, spared a glance back over their shoulder back at the familiar corrupt, though missing her tiara the fuki was one in the same, before noticing that their glance was, well - noticed and glancing away again. They turned another corner and would be gone soon, down one of the less frequented streets.

He shouldn’t be too hard to find, the unbuttoned peacoat, the long scarf of earthy and red tones that stood out against the blue-purple shade of his hair. And the fact that the cat, though the star had been hidden, was radiating a chaotic energy didn’t hurt either. Perhaps they were masquerading as a house pet.
~~~
It was a curious notion that she would have simply shrugged off if it wasn’t for the second glance they both gave before disappearing down the adjacent street. With the shadows partially covering his face it made his expression difficult to parse but Meridiana felt pretty certain it was anything but disgust. Ok, I’ll bite…
With a coy smile the Senshi of the Succubus followed the mauvians faint aura at a somewhat casual pace as to not seem too eager in her approach. Surprisingly, however, as the crowd of people thinned Meridiana found herself mere feet away from the two that had dared to take a peek and walk away.
“My, aren’t you a cutie.” Her cerulean colored eyes shifted between the two leaving it ambiguous as to which one the comment was directed at as she closed distance between them.
~~~

“Prrrrp!” mewled the cat, perking her head towards the young woman blinking those bright green eyes. She looked amused and her stub of a tail twitched like had it been longer it might have swished elegantly.

The man, glanced towards in her direction, blinking pale blue eyes and lofting an eyebrow almost out of challenge, as though he was quite sure that ‘cute’ by no means applied to him, and thus, he figured, she would be addressing a stranger’s cat.

“It was a cute trick anyhow.” He said with an amused smile. He turned enough to walk backwards a few steps, watching her as she caught up.

“Weren’t you just on a … date?” He asked tipping his head slightly.
~~~
“A date?” She asked almost innocently. “No…” Meridiana shook her head to the contrary. “That was more business than pleasure I assure you.”
She bit down on her lower lip in a seductive manner as she matched his retreat step for step until there were only inches between them. His eyes, up close, were intriguing gemlike color but different shades; captivating to look into which made it almost difficult for her to tear her eyes away.
“I will say though,” her attention then shifted back to the Mauvian perched on his shoulder. “It is quite rude to put a leash on such an intelligent cat.” With one hand she reached up to run her index finger along the edge of the felines ear before reaching under her chin to unclip the leash. “Rather disrespectful in my opinion. What do you say I teach him how to properly treat a lady. Hmm?”
She glanced up at him then, the glint in her dark blue eyes gave only a hint of her intentions as she clipped the leash to the mans’ scarf and gave it a little tug.
~~~

He watched her unclip the leash and hook it onto his scarf with an amused look. The cat too looked amused and sat up and quipped.

“Public bondage is sort of rude.” She said and jumped to Meridiana’s shoulder. “Buuut I do this for the laughs.” Tiny soft paws danced gently on her bare shoulders, tap tap taping as she shifted her paws before settling.

“But he started young.” She added and bumped the corrupt’s cheek with her fluffy head, and hat, which got jarred enough to show a point of the dark star on her forehead.

“It’s safer when we’re in public, people would ask questions.” he said folding his arms and looking scoldingly at the cat.

“I’m a cat not a DOG.” She pouted.

“Leash, laws….” he sighed.
~~~
Amused by their lighthearted bickering, Meridiana couldn’t help but let out a light laugh. So this whole charade was indeed a facade. Fascinating that meant he was either a corrupt like her or an agent, a captain if she were to guess since she had never heard of a mauvian tying themselves to someone of such low rank.
Not that it mattered or deterred her in any way.
The corrupt’s hold on the leash loosened as she reached up to place on hand on his now free shoulder. It did not linger there long as she ran it down the length of his sleeve to his wrist which she moved so his hand rested on the small of her back. “I got to say,” Meridiana’s other hand reached up to toy with the end of his braid.
Her head canted to the side as her gaze traced the scar across his lips and the fine line that cut through his eyebrow and down his cheek. Perhaps if he was still awake once she was done he might be inclined to share how he got them. Not likely, but she could hope just the same.
~~~

“Have… to say?” The former casual confidence that he had, casually addressing a talking cat in the streets, seemed to have vanished when she started toying with the end of his braid.
“Eerrmmm….”

“... you’re not… You have to have filled your quota in there.” He said trying to sound more confident.

He looked like he rather wanted to remove her hand, but his body language had gone from casual to ‘2x4’ with a blush.
~~~
“Mmhmm, I did~.” Meridiana let go of the braid to instead brush aside his bangs to get a better look at those opalescent eyes. So captivating she mused.
The way his body became completely rigid did not go missed and for the briefest of moments she actually contemplated giving him space but the fact he did not immediately push her away quickly changed her mind.
Rising up on her toes, the Corrupt Senshi of the Succubus leaned in close, molding her body against his as she carded her fingers through his soft hair. “Relax,” she whispered into his ear while skimming off a little energy hoping to at least feel him give in if only a little bit.
~~~

“Nnnn-no…. No I don’t relax well.” He said candidly.

“You really shouldn’t skim off… “ he cleared his throat. “I really wouldn’t do that… Absynthe!”
He glanced at the cat who just laughed and then started purring.

“No no, I want to see how this goes. I was bored and this is really entertaining! I like herrrrr.” She curled her toes and ‘kneading’ against the senshi’s shoulders, blessedly without claws.

“So… helpful, I’m so… SO glad I came out here with you, of all the cats.” He hissed through his teeth, the pink climbing his cheeks. And setting the scar on his cheek in harsher contrast.

“I mean, you could, continue to try and drain off my energy, but…”
~~~
“Oh?” Meridiana’s delicately sculpted eyebrows raised in mild surprise as a smile tugged the corners of her red painted lips.
Confident he would not take the opportunity to run away, not immediately anyway, the hand that had been holding onto his wrist relinquished it’s hold and instead came out to fan out against the front of his woolen coat. A pity the fabric itself was too thick because she would love nothing else right now than to feel what was beneath.
“Challenge accepted,” she all but purred before brushing her lips against his ear.
Meridiana leaned back then, just enough so that her fathomless deep blue eyes looked up into that of open sky. It was as if she were searching for an answer to a question she hadn’t asked or attempting to reveal a mystery she didn’t know was there. Such a curiosity, nobody has ever openly offered to allow her to drain them, not that it had ever stopped her in the past but it was intriguing just the same.
The fingers entangled in his hair stretched out to apply a light pressure to the back of his head encouraging the young man to lean in close or at least meet her part way as she brushed her lips against his before eventually kissing him fully. It was surprisingly gentle despite her forwardness if not chaste.
~~~

“That wa--” he started to say something more.

It was, still like kissing a 2x4, or perhaps a teenager who was kissing for the first time, uncertain, awkward, and then things … shifted.

The power she might have drawn on changed, expanded… and expanded.

Lips, changed, or rather, didn’t change but rather there was suddenly something between their lips, specifically, cloth.

“... I will give you new recruits a great deal of credit, in that you make it exceptionally hard to keep a low profile, even when I’m a civilian.”

The cat, for her part started laughing so hard, she rolled off the corrupt’s shoulder, somehow managed to land on her feet, only to fall to her side, roll on her back and keep laughing, kicking her little feet in the air.

“That was amazing! You’re like a mannequin!!” She cackled. “Do it again do it again!”

Even above the fabric of his mask, he was still, distinctly, blushing.
~~~
Meridiana pulled back surprised but definitely not cowed by this recent revelation. Truth be told her eyebrows would have disappeared into her hairline but she had more composure then to fall apart so easily.
So he was the sovereign she had felt amongst the crowd of agents back at the tower. Before it had been difficult to parse which aura belonged to each individual when they were all crowded together. Back then she had caught him looking her way and had been about to go introduce herself but by the time she was about to approach him everyone disbursed to proceed with their given missions.
“Well,” she purred somewhat amused. Looking down at the bobtailed mauvian, the corrupt couldn’t help but feel like she had been set up. However, the blush on his cheeks made her believe that this little encounter wasn’t entirely his doing. “This is quite the turn of events.”
“You see, I feel as if it would be terribly rude of me to suddenly turn down your most generous offer, my King.” Her head tilted down almost shly as her fingers toyed with the hair at the nape of his neck. “I don’t think it is something you offer so freely hmm?” Her head tilted to the side curiously as her free hand moved from where it had been resting against his shoulder to tug on the mask that partially covered his face. “Wouldn’t you agree.” she asked in kind, all too happy to oblige the mauvians request.
~~~

“I was being… I didn’t mean it a an actual offer. But I’ll remember it for the future.” He said and then directed a scowl at the now giggling Cat, who burst into a fresh round of laughter.

“Oh man the look on your FAAACE” she cackled. “Priceless, just priceless!!”

“If you don’t mask my signature, then we’re going to have a lot of company that will have no thoughts of kissing on their mind.” He grumped.
~~~
“Oh, the things I could teach you.” She withdrew her had from behind his head, lightly tracing his jawline with the back of her fingers. “If only you were open to a little fun.” Meridiana smiled just before leaning forward to give him one last very brief kiss on his cheek then stepping away to give him space.
“I suppose I should give this to you~” The corrupt held out her hand summoning the energy she had collected; her quota and then some, including the amount she had just taken from him.
~~~

“I… tend to prefer kissing, different people.” He said hesitantly and rubbed the back of his neck, which was made perhaps slightly more interesting because he’d had a very normal hand… before he powered up into uniform. Now, it was metal.

He glanced around and sighed, the cat was still, it seemed, laughing far too hard to be much use in masking either of them, and he returned to his civilian garb, the hand that massaged the back of his neck back to ‘normal’.

“You can turn that in to whomever you do normally, if you prefer.” He added and stooped to scoop up the giggling cat.

“Nono! Kisshimagain!!” She guffawed, “Eee-ehhehehheee….”

He sighed heavily.

“... I’m so glad I’ve provided amusement.” He sighed. “Lord forbid that anything mar your perfect feline dignity, or the fact you were pretending to be a normal cat.”

He was distinctly not meeting her eyes, like his shoes had a new level of fascination.

“Did you fill your quota?” He said and then stifled a small yawn.

Hmm, I see… for a brief second Meridiana felt mildly disappointed. The feeling did not last long however as intrigue took its place when the curious glint of metal caught her eye. But as soon as she noticed the metal hand it was gone just as quick.

“Ah, yes. I was done some time ago.” A few days ago actually but who was counting. “I was just hoping to gather extra before my next turn in to help out Ar-” Meridiana abruptly cut off her train of thought, not wanting to give light to Arabia’s situation without his consent. Shaking her head she dismissed the thought completely and followed Zinkenite’s lead by powering down.

In place of the rather revealing dress Phedre wore a knitted black turtleneck style dress with black leggings and knee high boots. Around her neck hung several varying lengths of golden chains. For warmth she wore a burgundy classical lapel dress coat with a thick belt around her waist.

“Better?” She asked if only to get him to look up again rather than continue to stare at his feet.
~~~
“Help out…” He said softly, not unkindly. “Does… someone need help?” He asked softly. “
“You needn’t tell me who, but if they are being punished for something, that I’d need to look into, I’ll offer to assist you.”
He took a breath and looked up, tucking the cat, Absinthe into the crook of his arm. The cat went into another fit of giggles and buried her head into the curve of his coat sleeve to stifle the sound.
“Mm… thank you, It’s… your uniform is very ah…” He cleared his throat and lifted his head at least meeting your eyes. “Ah, Effective.” He said and cleared his throat again.
“I’m going to find a nice cup of tea, would you like to walk with me? It would give Absinthe a chance to get over her giggles… in an hour or so.” He said and sighed.
“You, can call me Zac.”
~~~

“If you wouldn’t mind the company, a cup of tea sounds great.” Without her gloves on it would be nice to hold onto something warm.

While out of uniform her demeanor had actually shifted away from the overly flirtatious girl that stood before him. “I actually go by several names. But as we are now, you can call me Phedre or Phe.”

For a moment she fell quiet, her head turned to the side as of she had spotted something in the distance when in actuality it was more that there was something weighing heavily on her mind. Her gaze then fell to an arbitrary spot on the ground. “The person I’m collecting extra energy for is a fellow corrupt. Earlier this year he was in an accident and his recovery has been- slow…”

“I do know he still powers up as he can,” Phedre was quick to add least Zac think her comrade was slacking in his duties. “It’s just-” she sighed, instantly hating herself for spilling all this information but who was she to deny a sovereign at least a partial answer to his question. “I’ve been concerned that he hasn’t been able to meet his quota so I’ve been running interference when I know things are tough for him.”

“To my knowledge he hasn’t been punished for anything I just-” She looked up at at Zac, a deep look of concern in the eyes that had previously held a glint in them that suggested questionable endeavors. “Corrupts are already seen as tools, even if it isn’t outright said it is a feeling many of us have. I can’t allow someone to take advantage of him if what I suspect is true. As you saw, it is easy for me to collect energy especially when I can assure you none of the encounters go anywhere beyond what just happened between you and I.”
~~~
“Mmm…” He said softly. “Well, I unfortunately, can’t heal.” He said quietly. “But I’ll say you’ve found an incredibly effective method to support another officer, or… corrupted.” He looked approving.
He made a small face at the idea of seeing corrupt as only tools, apologetic perhaps.
“It, is possibly hard for them to believe that you won’t… abandon us. I wonder how many of them remember that, some of our own, some fellow officers, generals even, chose to work with ‘Order’ senshi.”
He glanced at her and gave a small shrug.
“I realize it doesn’t change the opinions of others, but if it assists at all. I tend to offer my trust to those whom have proven they are worth it, and I hope others will do the same. I… will admit that even those whom have made mistakes, but I’d still trust and guard them with my life. ”
He gave a small laugh.
“… which I realize goes rather against the rules of chess… but there we are.”
~~~

Phedre did not miss his quiet admission. However, instead of questioning him on what he meant, she instead leaned her shoulder against his as they walked down the street. It was an odd gesture she often did to Jaspers when he would start to get moody, more of a ‘hey you’re not alone’ or ‘cheer up’ a physical reminder that she is his support. Not that Zac would have any reason to know that but she kind of hoped he got the hint.

“I mean no disrespect, but you’re not like the other General King’s or Queens. I couldn’t even tell you the name of the Queen that corrupted me into the Negaverse I haven't seen her sense that day.” Phedre shrugged her shoulders. Not that it mattered anyway Sovereigns had their own duties to attend to.

For a moment she paused and held out her hands towards Abby. “May I?”
~~~
Abby giggled again, lifted her head and then jumped into the waiting hands. “Oh I really do like her.” She purred. “We can keep her, or I’ll keep her, I can still do the power thing with you, but I’m -keeping- her, she hasn’t got hang ups about me talking.” She chattered and then stuck her tongue out. One, tiny sassy blep.
He rolled his eyes at the cat’s ‘conversation’ and glanced at her, the small bump against his own shoulder, but he didn’t lean away this time, the hesitation more momentary
He gave a small laugh to be counted as ‘not like the others’. “I tend to approach things a little differently, or so I’ve been told that before, I don’t think you’d … know who was there when I was promoted. Tanzanite vanished into the rift before… I was gone.”
He rolled his shoulders in a small shrug.
“You don’t seem like other Corrupts I have met, you’re all quite different.”
~~~

Despite the more serious tone their conversation had taken Phedre found it hard to contain the laugh that escaped her when the kitty very decidedly claimed her as its own. It was interesting how in mere minutes a single mauvian had single handedly, or pawededly in her case, made her feel more welcome than any other officer in a years worth of time in the Negaverse ever had. “I don’t mind being yours,” she admitted with a sincere smile.

At the mention of the name Tanzenite she glanced up at Zac with an almost vacant expression. “I apologize but I don’t recognize that name. My knowledge of the Negaverse’s history, I admit, is very limited.” For a long while now she had been flying under the radar stealing energy from anyone and everyone, her own included. A notion that could have landed her in some serious trouble if found out but after tonight… well…

Again she stole a glance up at him. This time however it was her turn for a blush to rise high on her cheeks after realizing that he hadn’t reprimanded her for her actions. The cat was out of the bag so she guessed it was ok...? Ish…

“If possible I tend to avoid having to rely on asking someone to taxi me around or stick around as a bodyguard if I need to go to Negaspace for anything. I don’t particularly enjoy owing favors to anyone, or kiss up to someone if I’m not getting anything out of it.” She smirked hoping he took her comment as a joke.
~~~
“That’s probably for the best.” He said thoughtfully. “After all, I find that kiss ups find themselves rather, left behind when the stakes are high. There is only so much someone like that is willing to put on the line.”
He looked thoughtful, distant almost as though someone had done something some time in the past and his thoughts, for a moment had stuck there, lingering on some barb of memory, pleasant or unpleasant.
He shook his head as though to clear the errant thought away, and rubbed absently at his arm just above the elbow.
“Anyhow, I hardly consider taking someone to the Dark Kingdom a favor merriting return. So should you ever need it, ask I suppose. I do somewhat take my ability to traverse back and forth with ease, well, something for granted.” He admitted.
“The more you can do it, the easier it is to forget the days when you couldn’t, I suppose.”
~~~

“I appreciate the offer I do. Although,” she paused and for the first time this evening reined in her manners. “If it isn’t too much of an inconvenience, I’d much rather hear the stories first hand from someone who was there then have to read reports. At least, maybe then I could ask questions?”

“Or,” She looked down at her newly proclaimed ‘master’ and instead suggested. “Maybe you and I could run away for a few days here or there.” Goodness this mauvian would be so spoiled.
~~~
“Mmm?” he blinked.
“Oh… stories from me?” He looked surprised at the idea. “I suppose, most of my file is redacted apparently” He said looking thoughtful.
“I… keep forgetting people might find me interesting, especially since I’ve been absent so long.”
“You know, they have these amazing things called cell phones.” Quipped the cat.
“Funny. You’re absolutely the first person to have made that joke.” He said dryly and twisted to poke at her nose. “Given that I was primarily in charge of paperwork, I fear you’re going to find me far, far less interesting that you might imagine.”
~~~

As she listened to their sarcastic comments, Phedre had to bring her free hand up to cover her mouth if only to try and stifle the laughter she was trying desperately hard to hold back. “You two are hysterical.”

“However,” she bounded forward a few steps then turned around abruptly so she stood toe to toe with Zac. “That might be true if-” Phedre reached up to lightly trace the scar that cut across his eyebrow and down his cheek, “if you were to tell me that you got this by shutting your face in a door or…” with a smile she tapped the scar on his lip. “Or if you got his by falling off a bike when you were six. Then i might agree.”

Rocking back on her heels she hummed thoughtfully then turned back around to stand beside him as they continued toward the cafe. “Don’t worry, I’m not going to pry. If you don’t want to talk about it that’s fine. I just thought that maybe you might have stories about the good ole’ days or how things use to be and how they’ve changed.” Then again he was probably still getting his feet wet trying to fill the gaps in all that he’d missed.
~~~
He flinched, just a little at the touch, but seemed surprised at his own reaction.
“Mmm…. and if I were to say that I’m not sure?” he said and raised a hand to lightly touch the scar, an absent gesture. I could explain a lot of the ones you can’t see though.” He said looking a little amused.
“You could SHOW her.” The cat said sounding strangely teasing.
“Or I could offer something more polite… like tea.” Zac said sounding like he was on the edge of strangling the small white feline.
“Would you like to warm up with a cup of tea or coffee? I think you may have eaten but they do excellent pastries. I can perhaps… regale you of the time when we fought the senshi in, dreams of all places, and that the injuries could carry into the waking world.”
~~~

If she seemed surprised by Abby’s suggestion she didn’t show it, though it did give her ideas probably best saved for later. Especially after Zac offered her something else as compensation.

Walking beside him, more so letting him lead the way as she was in truth the tag along to this little group, Phedre looked up at him, one delicately sculpted brow raised curiously. “That sounds terrifying…” So much so that she actually had to wonder if sleep would be a thing when she finally got home this evening.

“If you don’t have any other prior engagements I’d like to hear what happened over some tea. It’ll be on me ok?” Phedre’s quick offer to pay was in part due to the fact that she had stolen not one but two things from him in the matter of minutes. To be fair she did offer to return the paltry amount of energy she had syphoned, which was shockingly rejected. However, regardless of the circumstances surrounding their encounter, she did kind of owe him.
~~~
“I suppose…” He said. “I can concede that at least, this time.”
“I want an eclair!” Abby announced. “And Cream!”
“Neither of those is good for you!” Chided Zac, reaching up to tap at her nose, it had about as much effect to deter her as you might expect, which was to say, absolutely none.
“Eclair!!” She demanded again rearing back to plant paws on top of his head.
“I can take you back to the apartment you little...get down, I’ll think about getting it for you for take out!” He hissed, hunching his shoulders as she wobbled precariously.
“You’re not... “ he said “Paying for the cat.” He added shifting his gaze to Phedre. “She’ll fleece you if she gets a chance.”
~~~

“It’s no problem, really.” Money really was not an issue for Phe. For her work was purely voluntary as a means to pass the time not because she had to in order to survive or pay rent. “I don’t mind.”

“Though, I admit, I am curious. You two seem pretty close, how did you two meet?” With the way Abby seemed to skillfully push Zac’s buttons there was obviously some sort of history between them. “Is she the reason you joined the Negaverse?” With Phedre’s awakening being an exception, she had heard that some mauvians were responsible for recruiting several of the other corrupts like her but wasn’t entirely sure if it worked that way with agents as well.
~~~
He laughed and shook his head. “No, she’s not been with us as long as I’ve been part of this. She, sort of moved in after I, returned.” he said carefully.
The Cat patted him in the head and said gently. “He had, an accident.”
“Thank-you.” He said pointedly. “Anyhow… No, I was recruited when we, well we didn’t have very many members in the city actually.” He said thoughtfully. “We’ve grown a great deal since then.
“She’s known me since before she started living in my house, but she’s still a more recent addition to our ranks.”
~~~

Phedre’s expression shifted to one of concern as she glanced up at Zac curiously. However, before she could ask anything on that topic he quickly veered the conversation to something he was more comfortably discussing at this time which was fine. Especially since she had been bold enough to ask rather personal questions already. This was, afterall, the first time they had actually spoken. Perhaps in time he would trust her enough to open up about what happened but for now she wouldn’t press him for more information than he was willing to share.

“Well I for one am glad to have you on our team.” From the few minutes she had known Abby, who had within seconds claimed Meridiana as her own, Phedre got the feeling that the little mauvian had a knack for making things a bit more lively if not fun in an organization that followed strict rules and guidelines.
