Etain liked fish. Then again, he liked most animals. Not to eat necessarilly, but watching them was entertaining. Besides, they seemed to be the only sort of things that didn't make his skin itch now and then. He never knew with people who was itchy and made his head hurt. No fish ever made him feel gross and scratchy.

The blonde boy sat poised on the edge of the pond, hands on his knees, and feet tucked beneath him in a crouch. Large, round brown eyes peered into the koi pond, watching the fish move back and forth lazily. The boy's silver horn caught the clear sunlight and glimmered nearly as much as the surface of the pond.

Some feet away, a young man wearing slacks and a sweater (despite the warm weather), had sat himself on one of the stone benches surrounding the pond. He was thumbing idly through the book, occassionally shooting Etain a quick glance now and then to make sure the boy hadn't fallen into the pond or anything.

Nope, still there, Tovar told himself after another one of many prior glances. He turned his attention back to the book.

Across the pond, dangling his feet into the water sat a very grumpy and irritated looking little bird. Today, like most other days, Paxton was outside trying to loose himself in the nice atmosphere that nature provided for him. Mom had let him run off on his own for a bit, which was perhaps good. (He needed some alone time to think) Yet, today was rather unusual no matter try as he might Paxton just couldn't seem to find the peace and quite he usually did, outdoors.

You see, he was still rather shaken from the experience he had had a couple days ago. Finding out that life is fragile can be a traumatic. Paxton shivered slightly as the image of his mothers friend's cat, Ichigo, ran across the lawn and chased down a bird. That poor bird...it hadn't had a chance.

That poor, poor, little bird..."GAH!" Paxton picked up a stone and chucked it across the pond angrily, he was becoming frustrated with his thought process. How did he get these images out of his head? Perhaps, for this reason, he didn't notice that the stone which he had thrown had disturbed the fish which a small boy, with the horn on his head, had been watching.

"Two, three, fou--."

Etain blinked as the spotted koi fish scattered, the smooth water broken by a rock plopping through it. So much for counting the fish. Then again, Etain supposed, maybe it was a good thing. He couldn't count much higher than five and he'd been getting awful close to it. Etain let his fingers uncurl from where he'd been counting on them, peering up from the water and across the width of the small pond.

He was greeted by the clear cut figure of another person. Without thinking, the unicorn levered himself to his feet and made his way around the perimeter of the koi pond at an easy clip. The soles of his sandals flip flopped on the neat little red tiles bordering the pond.

Tovar didn't notice the little boy's movement. Not yet, anyway.

"Hi," the boy squeaked abruptly, blinking with large, large eyes at the older boy. Apparently the concept of 'not talking to strangers' hadn't quite penetrated the kid's skull yet.

Paxton starred into the water as the smooth surface was broken by his rock, and his bright red and white reflection was disturbed by the ripples. Wait, white? He didn't have any white on him. If anything he wore only all black and his skin was green with some red, so then, where was the white coming from?

Paxton's head snapped up to see a smiling blonde little boy looking down at him. His eager voice and unique appearance caught Paxton off guard. Just what type of animal was this thing? He had never heard of any animal with a horn coming out from its head before...well, at least not any animal which looked like the kid in front of him.

Eventually Paxton's reflexes kicked in and he flipped back a couple of feet nearly tumbling into the pond as his butt hit the edge between where the land ends, and water begins. Great, now he had dirt all over his pants...oh well, some things always seem to happen to certain people. Now came the awkward silence in which Paxton stared at Etain, oh no, there would be no reply greeting for the little unicorn.

Etain cocked his head to one side, peering curiously at the older boy as he flopped down into the dirt. Oops. Tovar had told him something about that. What had it been? Oh yeah. 'Don't surprise me!' He'd made Tovar do that before -- hit the ground. Tovar made a louder noise, though. Etain was going to assume Tovar's instructions applied to everyone, but he'd forgotten. He'd have to work on that.

But he also knew that people were supposed to say hello back when you said it. "Bad manners," Etain piped up happily, crouching down slightly to become more level with the boy. That silver horn glittered cheerefully smack dab from the middle of his forehead.

"Again," he chided, frowning just slightly before trying again: "Hi."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 26, 2006 9:46 pm

Paxton didn't notice it, but his right eye gave a small twitch. The mannerism was probably subconscious, he had been watching Naito tweak out and shout around the house too much. Her eye often twitched when she was angry.

Of coarse, Paxton wasn't angry. It was more of a...unpleasantly surprised irritation. Bad manners? Who, Paxton? Of coarse not! If anyone had the bad manners it was this kid. How much ruder could you get than sneaking up on people giving them a heart attack! Paxton's eye twitched again. Just who was this person?

The little lovebird ruffled his feathers, and scooted back from Etain a few feet, he was beginning to feel a bit intimidated by the child. That horn, it looked menacing, besides Paxton didn't know what animal the child took after. For all he knew, Paxton, could be dealing with some horrible kid who's natural instincts told him to hunt down little birds and go chomp!

Paxton's eyes grew a bit wider at this thought, and he gave the other child a very strange look. "...What---what are you?" It was hardly a hello, but at least it was some communication.

Etain supposed it was better than nothing. It wasn't a hello, but...-- well, he'd make do with what he'd been given. He shuffled closer toward the older boy in order to cover the new distance between them.

"Etain," he squeaked, blonde hair haloing a very, very bright smile. "What's you? Will you pet me?" The boy paused a moment, rocking lightly back and forth from toe to heel and back again. His sandals made a small squish-squish noise in the dirt. Apparently he hadn't quite gotten the jist of the question, poor little thing.

That silver horn glinted menaciously with the slight back and forth movement.

The boy looked severely crestfallen, large brown eyes going sufficiently watery. He chewed on his lower lip, watching the older boy for a few seconds longer before his gaze dropped to his dark little toes protruding out of the ends of his sandals. "'Kay," he stated, little tail twitching dissapointedly back and forth. Those long, long ears seemed to want to sag slightly, too.

Quickly, he cast the love bird a sidelong glance. "You're sure?" he prodded slightly further. "Just a lil' bit? Tovar'll, if you don't wanna." Etain bit his lip again, little fingers coming up to itch the side of his nose.

Tovar would too. If he begged for a long time. Usually he just pet Etain to shut the unicorn up. That whining could get annoying after a while...

Paxton shot the little unicorn a side glance out of his left, ok so he didn't look like any vicious killer, in fact he looked rather sad at the news that Paxton would not be touching him. Yet, appearances can be deceiving. Why when Paxton had met him, Keanu seemed nice enough, but deep down he was a murdering beast! Well, at least this was the one thought which Paxton's developing mind had concluded.

Oh, but Etain....he just looked so sad. For a moment Paxton slowed his step and turned around to look down at Etain. Again the horn flashed in Paxton's face, it terrified one half of him, yet the other half persisted that he should investigate this strange kid before he made up his mind.

Every so slowly, the love bird extended out a shaking hand to the unicorn. It was an effort, Paxton had gone and made the first 10%, now Etain just had to meet him the other 90% of the way!

Bingo! Etain shifted very very carefully forward, inching his way across the distance between them. He didn't mind closing the distance, especially if it meant he was going to get a nice head rub... Nearly there, nearly the--

"Etain!"

The shriek preceeded a flurry of movement from the other side of the koi pond. Apparently Tovar had glanced the check on the little unicorn. Etain blinked, peering quickly around toward his guardian as the young man streaked around the perimiter of the pond and toward the two boys.

"Tovar!" The unicorn squeaked cheerfully, waving absently at the man as he skidded up. "He's going to pet me."

Tovar slowed, blinking dully between the two for a few seconds before focusing sharply back on the little blonde unicorn. "Etain, I told you. It's bad manners to ask strangers to pet yo-- wait! What are you talking to strangers for?!"

"Not gonna snatch me," Etain assured him brightly. "Petting, not snatching."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 26, 2006 10:50 pm

Huh? What was going on now. Paxton was so confused. One moment he was sure that Etain was going to stab him, and the next he was going to pet him...and...and...and...why was this guy yelling?

Paxton stood there dully for a moment or two, simply blinking as he watched the little blonde get scolded. Stranger? Technically Paxton was a stranger, but Etain was sure right about one thing; Scratching, not snatching!

So far this meeting had been sufficiently awkward and as Paxton's care taker arrived to fetch the young fledgling things only seemed to become ever more interesting.

The young girl arrived walking in heals over the dirt like she usually did, a difficult feet but somehow she managed. Even though she had told Paxton he was to be off on his own for the afternoon she really hadn't strayed far. Ever keeping a watchful eye on her charge. Naito had learned her lesson about leaving Paxton to go play alone with out adult supervision.

Grabbing hold of Paxton's wing she pulled the love bird back into her, "What's going on he--" as much as she would have liked to take charge of the situation Etain caught her eye and her atteion was suddenly captivated on him. "A UNICORN!" She squealed just looking at the cute little boy, it really was a unicorn. Naito may have been a weirdo, but deep in her heart she had a soft spot for all that fairytale crud...including stories about unicorns. With out another thought she giggled and jumped over to squeeze Etain, some people really never learned about personal space boundaries.

Tovar watched rather helplessly as Etain was squished-- uh, squeezed. The young made made a slight flailing motion, hovered, and then retreated a few paces, watching the whole matter warily. He fidgeted alot.

Etain, however, seemed perfectly content with the situation. This one didn't make him itchy, and he was quite happy to be squeezed and cuddled by girl. "Pet me," he squeaked, wiggling slightly in the girl's arms, little floof of a tail flicking this way and that. Not surprisingly, the little boy was rather good at keeping the point of his horn safely out of the way of goring anyone. He'd had practice with that!

Behind them, Tovar face palmed rather obviously.

((OOC: I have to go to bed for now, but I would defiantly like to finish this with you when I get back sometime on Tuesday or later in the week. This is all very amusing. Just go ahead and post after my reply either way I'll check it tomorrow before I leave. ))

Naito was besides herself, their was something about fulfilling those innocent child hood dreams of yours, that well just made you forget yourself and act goofy as she was now.

"You are soooo, cute!" She squeaked as she ran her fingers through the little boys hair. Any other kid and she might have said scram and threatened the brat with a spanking---but a unicorn! Another fit of giggles followed this thought.

In the mean time Paxton, much like Tovar, was besides himself. Currently the best thing to compare Paxton to would be a computer...which had just short circuited itself and was trying to find a way to get back online. In Paxton's case, it just wasn't working, no matter how hard he tried he just couldn't put the pieces of the puzzle together and so stood their helplessly waiting for Ma to come back and take him home, or maybe she would scold him for having dirt on his pants. Whatever she would do, he wished she would do something, anything.

Suddenly, the lovebird felt like crying.

((xDD Alrighty. <3))

Etain squeaked brightly, eyes sliding closed as the girl's fingers scritched against his scalp. Ah, there. That was nice. Her nails were better than Tovar's. He didn't really have any and it really felt nicer with them. And she was giving him hugs! Bonus! Completely content for the time being, utterly oblivious to his surroundings, Etain smooshed his face happily into the girl's shoulder. If he was a cat, he'd be purring. As it was, his wiry little tail flicked contentedly back and forth.

Tovar watched dumbly for a few seconds longer and then shifted, slightly, clearing his throat loudly. "Er, excuse me?" he called uneasily, edging a few inches toward Naito and the unicorn. "Uh..." He really needed to start thinking out his statements before opening his mouth. But, seriously, what was he supposed to say?
