THE PERFECT GIFT
Roleplay Event

Solo or RP Format
Worth 5 Growth Points
Solo word minimum is 500, RP post minimum is 7

The cooler weather has brought a pleasant chill to the waters of Kahikina. With the days growing shorter, you know it's time for the most wonderful time of the year. It's the season of love and appreciation, where the people of the rivers, swamps, and sea give trinkets and gifts to those they care about.

You've got quite the list of friends and family to spread some cheer, and little time left to find a gift and present it. What gift do you find? Does it have special meaning to you and the recipient? How do they react when you finally give it to them and do they give you anything in return?

Tell us all about the adventure of finding and giving the perfect gift!

===

This prompt will be open from 12.29.18 to 1.31.19!

RPs will need to be started before closing to be able to claim the growth points for participating, but may be completed after the deadlines ends without penalty.

Afia had never been one to express very much concern or caution to either himself or his children. They had a home, life, and knowledge of the rivers, making it by far the easiest and safest place for he and his family to reside. However, working with the same materials, in the same place, day after day could make things... a bit stale, and Afia, Toku, and La'eimi all despised staleness. So once the path to the ocean had become available to them, none had been frightened.

Seeing the ocean reefs was a chance to see more beautiful things! To have a wider variety of materials to work with! And, perhaps most importantly to La'eimi, the reef folk wore colors even brighter than what he could find in the river. Beautiful, warm golds, crisp oranges, blues as clear as the sky... Such beauty.

"Split up, children," Afia commanded as the group prepared to spend their first full day among the heart of the reefs in Elikapeka. "Gather whatever resources and knowledge you can from the people here, then report back to me with your findings once the sun is at its highest point in the sky! Be wary of your surroundings at all times. Stay safe and learn whatever you can. We'll meet back here soon."

Afia had gone one way, Toku had gone another, and La'eimi set off on his own. He wasn't entirely sure what he was looking for, but he decided he would know it when he saw it.

Everything eir father and eir twin had said about needing to work together to achieve greatness or about needing respect for their comrades had been difficult for Kiwena to fully understand and follow while in Ka'lei's depths. At least when ey'd been home, the only thing ey's had to worry about changing was everything about emself personally (eir attitude and personality and the way ey reacted with eir comrades). But in Haukea everything became much harder, and Kiwena was too acutely aware that ey hadn't really wanted to come to the reefs to begin with.

Eir normal routine was shattered in the new environment, and it was difficult to be nice and uncomfortable, particularly when Seti and Niqua were so persistent in their efforts to be companionable with em. Kiwena knew they weren't trying to upset em, but it was still such a peculiar thought that ey needed to rely on them in any way.

All ey wanted to do was dance. All ey wanted was to please a crowd eager to see a beautiful performance. What should it matter how ey felt toward eir brother or the rest of the troupe?

Eir father's words echoed, 'You need more than motion. You need feeling to inspire an audience. It's something you lack.' So if ey was tired of being 'off' in eir routines, ey needed to learn compassion and empathy- all that crap that made people like other people. Kiwena felt frustrated with it all. And for every day ey spent in Haukea, eir frustration mounted.

"I need to leave," ey hissed softly one morning to Niqua as the other Moakai stretched in preparation for the practice they would do together.

"What-?"

"I need to leave. Right now." Ey didn't explain any more than that, and ey didn't think Niqua wouldn't understand. Kiwena was easy to agitate and frustrate. If ey needed to spend some time alone, eir more easy-going twin would grant em that. So ey left the troupe's campsite and headed deeper into the reefs.
