Quote:
Fresh snow has fallen over Destiny City for the third time this week; most people seem to have stayed inside today due to a particularly heavy flurry, but you find yourself outside tonight for some reason. The weather has faded, revealing a sparkling night sky. Much of the ground is covered in a crisp layer of snow--but more than that, beautiful flowers in the shape of snowflakes have sprouted in the ground. They grow in small patches and permeate a pleasant, sweet fragrance. If the flowers are not kept in freezing temperatures, they melt, but for the duration of their lifespan they are beautiful, fragile things. In such a busy metropolis, isn't it nice to take a moment to take a moment and appreciate nature? Even if there does seem to be something a little magical about this?

The wings were absoutely delicious, they normally were at this particular location. They were tender, not greasy and the sauce wasn't too heavy. The spicy ones for one of them were well flavored while still bringing a lip searing spice, and the more mild ones still carried a good flavor with them and could be enjoyed by either of them.

Service had been quick and while the waitress had perhaps been slightly over solicitous, that was more than likely because she was angling for a good tip. Such a thought could easily be supported by the cut of her shorts, and the 'quirky' socks she wore drawn up to her knees.

Probably given the normal crowd and any given night with people drawn to the ring of tv screens ringing the upper walls, this idea worked. Probably a good thing too given the terrible nature of pay that servers were granted because of the idea that they'd be better compensated with their tips.

Lucien wasn't quite sure why they'd decided to go out for dinner that evening but they had and, thankfully, had brought thicker coats when they'd gone out as well. The weather had said it might snow and while neither of them thought it looked like it would they'd brought the coats anyway. They'd come in handy when by the time they were done with dinner and left the restaurant to find the grown covered in a light blanket of snow.

"Well .... looks like it's going to be another chilly night." He shook his head, bundling his coat collar around his neck as he shivered for a moment. It wasn't as cold as it could be but it was chilly enough that it was going to be a long walk back.

They could call a car but that wasn't something either of them were all that fond of doing. Being in someone elses care was just a little weird and a little uncomfortable. "Think we can make it home before it starts to come down harder again?" The flurries were still coming down but they were a soft fall rather than the heavy snowfall that had to have happened while they were eating.

The decision to go out to dinner had not been too odd or out of place. Most of what they had picked up by way of groceries lately was geared towards dinner for Christmas even and the breakfast that would follow the next morning. They had been so busy trying to make things perfect while also focusing on wedding planning that there had not been much time in the way of making plans for dinner in the present.

He enjoyed the environment of the place they had chosen, and the transition from the warm restaurant to the crisp, cool air outside was pleasant if not good for jolting him awake from whatever lull he might have found himself in after a delightful meal.

He settled into his coat as they made their way outside, smoothing his hands down over the front on the way down to his pockets. Luc had given him the coat as an early Christmas present after the loss of his last coat-- gone too soon, as far as he was concerned, but probably for the best. The new one was more 'grown up'. It was warmer. It was more him-- and it was a wonderful reminder of Luc every time he put it on, keeping him warm and reassuring him that he would never be alone again even on the coldest nights.

"Mm.... Maybe." He pulled his gloves out of his pocket, tugging them up over his hands and flexing his fingers to settle the faux leather into place. He hadn't checked the weather before they had left the apartment, but he had trusted Luc's judgement after catching the weather report earlier. It was easier to keep his companion warm when he was warm himself, after all.

"If it gets too cold on the way back we could always power up," he murmured, making sure that his voice was quiet enough that if anyone else was wandering past them they'd hear nothing more than soft whispers between lovers wandering home. "Dunno what it is about all of that crazy magic, but.... Seems warmer without sleeves than it does with this coat sometimes."

"I'd like to avoid that if at all possible. This time of year ...." he shook his head slightly as he shifted a bit closer to Arin before sliding an arm through his lovers. "You never know what's going to happen and it's never good." He was used to all of the holidays being a s**t time for anything with their other lives. "Besides, it is a pretty night so I'd like to just be use if we can."

It was easier that way and it was close enough to the holidays that he didn't want to risk anyone getting hurt. He wanted his family, new and old, to be able to actually enjoy things together.

Plus it was his an Arin's first Christmas as fiances and he didn't want something ******** that up for them.

"You mean you would like to avoid getting into trouble?" He laughed softly as he set his hand to rest on Lucien's arm, keeping the other man close to him. "Are you certain? I mean, what better way to get our pulses going than by taking a brisk jog through the scenic snow..." He flashed Luc a grin at the look he was getting from his lover, unable to keep the amusement from dancing through his eyes. He enjoyed teasing Luc a little bit, probably a little bit too much if he was being entirely honest. It was all in good nature, truth be told. He couldn't help being just a little bit impish here and there.

"It is a beautiful night. The lack of wind is probably helping things-- at least a little bit. Nice and brisk and beautiful. Plus I've got you here with me... What more could I want?" His brow lofted as he gave the other man a gentle nudge, gracing him with another fond smile.

"Yes I would like to stay out of trouble." He shook his head, giving Arin another 'look' as he continued. "I know that's your favorite hobby and all but you promised we'd have the holidays off from getting into trouble." He nudged Arin back before settling into walking beside the other man again.

The night was beautiful and he did have to agree that with Arin's company there wasn't all that much more that he could want. He was about to answer before he actually looked where they were walking.

"Arin .... look at the grass." They'd made it into the park, the sidewalk through it being the easiest way back to the apartment. Covering the grass were small delicate flowers that almost looked like they were made out of glass.

"I did promise that we'd have the holidays off from getting into trouble, which is exactlywhy we came out to dinner tonight instead of heading out to check out the carnival." He teased lightly, taking his arm back from Luc so that he could drape it over the other man's shoulders instead. Under normal circumstances, were it any other time of year, Arin might have been tickled by the idea of checking out a winter carnival.

Knowing how other winters had gone? Including the winter of the snow globes? He was entirely too hesitant and convinced it could be nother but trouble in the long run-- trouble that someone else could deal with this Christmas.

Not that he and Luc wouldn't respond to calls for help if it came through. They would. He knew they would. They just weren't going out of their way to look for trouble this time.

At Luc's gesture he followed his gaze, eyes wide. ".... Where d'you think those came from?"

"I have no idea and I don't think I want to know..." Nothing that looked like a beautiful treat at this time of year ever was. There was always some catch. Always. He leaned closer to Arin as he looked over the park and the field of ice flowers. "Nothing feels wrong but, nothing that pretty ever comes without a price."

Nothing was prickling his skin though, there wasn't a feeling of creeping darkness or dread that he was used to with some Negaverse trick. It just seemed like flowers and a light snowfall.

Despite his worries and the history of things at the holidays it seemed, somehow, like it was just something beautiful for them to share.
