There’s a particularly cheesy looking section of the carnival that you happen to pass by, requesting you take one of the provided slips of colored paper and write down a favorite holiday memory and pin it to the excessively large festively decorated tree stationed in the corner, near the children’s play area. Maybe you’re feeling nostalgic, maybe you’re doing it to humor a companion but for whatever reason, you find yourself jotting down a memory. Regardless of whether or not the memory you've written down is true, you find yourself dreaming of this memory in your sleep that evening, very vividly. Maybe you're reliving the memory, maybe you're standing in the background and watching it all unfold. Maybe this fabricated memory has you regretting writing down anything at all, as you experience this for yourself. Either way, guess it was on your mind for longer than you thought!

Night after night since that day at the Carnival, Nischal had been waking up in a puddle of sweat.

It had been a silly, even childish thing, really, writing down the memories of Holidays past. He wasn't really one to have great memories of that time. The ones from before he corrupted to the Dark Mirror Court were not all that wonderful, and from even after then, the ones he had from his travels were memories of a lonelier time. A time where he was unwell, forcing himself to live day by day for the smallest of reasons. Christmas and the New Years were not any different. Live until Christmas so he could help serve Dinner to the Homeless sheltered he had volunteered at in some random City. Live until New Years to say that he made it another year, even if it was a struggle to stay afloat.

Last year though... For the first time for as long as he could clearly remember, Nischal wasn't alone. He had found someone who's very smile felt like a reason to keep going from day to day, who gave him the support to try to be a better person. And honestly, Nischal couldn't imagine life anymore without Jason by his side.

The particular memory he wrote down was very vague. "Christmas Eve's Champagne Gift from 2017". He hadn't shown it directly to Jason during that time, as he was a just a smidge embarrassed by just how hot under the collar he had been that night. It was wonderful and warm and completely full of the love and adoration of the young man by his side. And, well... There were other feelings from that night as well.

It was those feelings, those memories were the ones that woke him up at night, his body warm and overwhelmed by those dreams and every nerve on his body flaring up with a want, a need for his lover, to know he was there and to hold him in his arms. Luckily for him, Jason slept soundly beside him. After a brief moment of contemplating, he rolled over to his side, pressing his body flush against Jason's back, and nuzzling gently into his neck, hoping to wake him up.

"Jason... Wake up..." Nischal ever so softly murmured against his sweetheart's ear, pressing the tiniest kisses to them. "Would you wake up for me, please...?"

Jason was happy to have the chance to spend some time at the Carnival with his lover. They had all been so busy lately, it was rare they had time to spend outside of their apartment together. That was the nice thing about the Christmas season though, he had more time to work on his relationships. Though, it came with the downfall of it also being a wacky time in D.C. in general. He was always on the lookout for something to go wrong, but who would think twice about a creatively decorated tree one the Carnival grounds.

It had seemed like a perfectly innocent part of the Carnival. What could have gone wrong by simply writing down a memory to a little piece of paper. It was something Jason had to think on for a while. He had a lot of good Holiday memories to choose from, including one when he was a teem that involved a very wild party with his bestie. Nischal was here with him though, and he didn't want him to see him debating on this forever. Rather then write some memory of an old friend or family gathering, he wanted it to be about them. Last Christmas was a first for him as well. A time spent with someone he was actually serious about.

There were a few memories he could choose from. Although, maybe one was a little too embarrassing to put on his card, for everyone to see. Eventually he scribbled down 'Blackout with Nischal', he was happy to show it to his partner. And gave him a little kiss on his cold cheek before tying it to the festive tree with everyone else's holiday memories. He felt a little bad for leaving a risque memory on a tree filled with mostly childish writings, but oh well. It's not like anyone would know what happened. It was innocent enough for a child to see.

That night he dreamt of that cold morning again. Of waking up wrapped in the warmth of his very, special someone. Setting up a cozy fireside snuggle pile. Of the kisses and nuzzles. It had been nice to have his parent's home to themselves. It was also a time when they were very much, warming up to Nischal themselves. They were used to Jason bringing...people home. But, even they knew Nischal was different. They had never seen their son take to someone so seriously.

He didn't have long to dream about it, before he had the real thing. He woke up, gently, when Nischal rolled over, pressing into him.

"Hmm, I was having the most wonderful dream." He turned over in their shared bed to face his warm lover. "Seems like you were having a pleasant dream as well." He pushed one arm under Nischal's pillow and then wrapped his other arm around his partner to pull him in close. He was always so, very warm and soft to the touch. Every morning he woke up to someone like this was a blessing.

"A wonderful dream? Yes... Mine was as well..." When Jason turned around he was met with a fond smile, and a very tender kiss to the forehead. One arm released Jason's waist, slowly trailing up his side to finally settle on threading his fingers through Jason's fluffy blond hair.

"I had dreams of that night last year. The Champagne, the fire... You. Your kisses, your touches, the love that you showed me that night... Do you remember those papers we wrote and put on that tree earlier this week? Ever since then, when we spoke about it, I've dreamed of that night..." Though it was only the two of them in the room, he spoke in whispers, as if those memories were a secret that only the two of them could ever be allowed to know about. It was true, in a way, a private time that would be forever etched in his heart that had no right to be shared with anyone else.

No one else, except his lover in his arms.

"I couldn't help but wake up... As much as I treasure that memory, I wanted to see the current you, here, beside me." As shy and quiet as he normally could be, being beside Jason allowed Nischal to show that tiny bit of passion he held, and exclusive experience only for the boy he loved so very dearly.

Maybe it was trite to say such a thing over and over again to himself, but he adored Jason, and to show that, he pressed a long, slow kiss to his sleepy lover's lips.

"I know you are sleepy... But would you do me the honor of maybe kissing me, just a little longer...? I want this to be our next holiday memory, where I realized that nothing in this world could ever pull me away from the you I have in my arms right now."
