Ring twisting. God she was doing it again. Ever since coming back from that strange temple Lacerta had taken to twisting the ring on her hand at times when she felt anxious or stressed; or a combination of both. Now was a perfect example. What the hell had happened before she had run into the park looking for Acubens? The pall of loneliness still resonated deeply within the teen's heart and she gasped for a moment as she wrapped her arms around her stomach. The evidence that she'd been crying was still apparent on her face even as her eyes cast about for a tell-tale glint that would mark what she was looking for.
Red-rimmed violet eyes picked up on a shimmering surface nearby and Lacerta ran to prise the small mirror from where it was hidden. Was it bad form to actually hold the mirror if she wanted to call on Acubens? She'd put it back afterwards but for now she gently rubbed her fingers along the smooth surface before pulling herself together. Her voice was soft as she spoke to the mirror and hoped that Acubens could hear her call, "Oh, I don't even know if this is what you meant by finding a mirror and calling for you... but Acubens please, I need to see you. It's Lacerta."
Her plea spoken Lacerta placed the mirror gently on the ground beside her as she sat down on the ground. The feeling of loneliness had not gone away and she drew her knees into her chest and wrapped her arms around them as silent prayers looked to be answered.

Acubens had been wandering around mirrorspace, waiting not-so-patiently for the place to spit out another crystal for her. It had been a while since he had, but then again it had been a while since she had spent any real time within its corridors. Maybe she should spend more time here... She'd been neglecting her realm too, but in all honesty owning a business didn't leave a whole lot of time for mining for crystals. And by mining, she, of course, meant wandering aimlessly around milky-white hallways. When she first heard her name, Acubens had passed it off as a trick of the realm. Mirrorspace was not exactly a stable environment, and who knew what it can up its sleeves. But then her name came again and she could make out the tail end of the sentence. And the voice that was speaking. LacertaAcubens followed the sound as best she can and emerged from her mirror in the park, slightly disoriented by the sudden rush of cold air. Mirrorspace wasn't exactly warm but more like... blood-temperature. So after a moment of getting her bearings, Acubens was able to look around and look for the woman who had called to her. "And here I thought you'd never..." the words died on her lips as she looked down to see a living wreck at her feet. "Oh no," she whispered, dropping instantly to her knees to be eye level with Lacerta as she sat curled up on the ground. Who had done this? What had happened? That same protective and wrathful snake that always writhed within her when one of her own broke down hissed and spat in her gut but she had to silence it. Now was not the time for war. Now was the time for kindness and nurturing and sweetness. "Oh, no, no, no, Lacerta, honey, come here," she murmured softly, gathering what she could of the teen in her arms and cradling her against her chest. "It's okay, Lacerta. You're safe now. I'm here." She'd ask what happened later. For now she just needed to get Lacerta calmed down.

It was the arms that wrapped around her own and brought her against a warm body that had Lacerta craning her head to peer at who held her trembling frame against their own. At the words that Acubens spoke the senshi of bandages broke down completely. The feeling of loneliness that had been plaguing her had brought her here and now she didn't know what to do. Her brain was slow in interpreting all of Acubens words before she tried to rein in her amok emotions. Blinking slowly she sniffed and tried absently to wipe her eyes dry. Of course trying to do such an action while wearing a ring was probably not the best idea. She winced as the object gently scraped her cheek before sniffling again. Her words came out in a rush.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know what else I could do. I've tried looking for you..."
Lacerta's words were filled with the anguish she was feeling. All mental and nothing physical but mentally she was reeling and lost. Her next words were spoken ever so quietly, "can you make the loneliness go away?"
She was starting to calm down but she still could feel the pangs of loneliness. Even now she wished to abolish the sensation entirely. Her ring glinted in the moonlight as her hand once more came up to wipe away fresh tears that fell form her eyes.

A pang of guilt shot through Acubens when Lacerta talked about looking for her. She should have made herself more available. Should have powered up more. Should have... should have. Acubens sighed deeply, smoothing Lacerta's hair down as the younger woman let whatever was tearing through her nerves to have its time. Acubens knew from experience that it was better to let it run its course rather than try and stop it. If the panic wasn't given its time, then it would take it. Painfully. "I'm sorry," she said weakly, holding on to Lacerta tighter as though it would somehow make it better. Can you make the lonliness go away?Again, Acubens tightened her grip on the teen and heaved a deep sigh. "Oh, Lacerta. Oh honey, you know that if I could, then I would." Was this how Lesath had felt? All those times when Acubens still wore white and a different face? She had been so confused and alone. And so angry. And tired. More than anything, Acubens had been so tired in those days. Tired of being so empty all the time. Tired of searching in the white moon for something only to find nothing. "I was so badly to bring you over to this side, but that's not something that we can do lightly, my sweet. There is so much that goes into something like that... Oh, Lacerta, tell me what happened, sweetheart? Does it have to do with this," she asked, catching Lacerta's hand and running a finger over the rough finish of the ring.

Although it had only exacerbated the way she had been feeling as of late the senshi of bandages wondered if that ice-coated building had done her a favor by pushing her to act on what it was that was truly bothering her. There was a small niggling doubt that had been growing lately in her mind that maybe, just maybe that she was not meant to be fighting on the side that she was. Her thoughts, while still turbulent, started to slow enough that she could get a grip on them and her emotions. Slowly Lacerta registered the smoothing of her hair and she moved to sit upright. The brief tightening of Acubens' grip stalled her motion and she sniffed softly.
As Acubens spoke the teen sighed before moving to sit upright under her own power. Did that mean she was mistaken in thinking that Acubens was a friend and someone who could help? No, maybe it meant something else. She was tired and not in the right mindset to make snap decisions. She wasn't sure she understood about the comments of a process not being easy. But she would not question it for now. As Acubens noticed the ring and ran her finger over it asked about it did Lacerta take a deep breath and shake her head. She glanced down at the ring herself and noted the grey stone set in the band before finding a way to describe what had happened that particular night. But first an explanation was needed. Her voice was quiet as she picked over her words, "I don't think it's the ring. It was something else. I don't know. All I know is that as of late I've been feeling more and more alone."
She briefly recalled the extreme feeling of loneliness after that vision she'd experienced and her expression crumpled just a little. She held back the tears this time and continued on, "I don't know, maybe something I saw tonight magnified just how much I feel like I'm truly alone and how much I yearn for a place to truly belong ... just anywhere."
Her own fingers briefly caressed her ring and she glanced towards the sky for a moment. She'd share the entire tale if Acubens was interested in hearing about it. For now though maybe a condensed version would be better, "I'm not exactly sure how things exactly transpired. Long story short. I think we were transported somewhere to maybe do something. We each woke up wearing a ring that we could not remove. There were five of us altogether. We fought this statue guardian that was defending a chest and though the statue was defeated we got transported back before we even knew what was going on. The rings stayed with us. I've been fiddling a little with it but can't really seem to figure out what it does exactly."
Lacerta let her ringed hand fall into her lap before she glanced towards Acubens. She wasn't exactly what one would call a basket-case and yet something tonight had really rattled her. She wasn't sure what was going on and yet it seemed like reaching out had been the best idea at the time. "I didn't take you away from anything important did I?"
That would have made the red-head feel even worse than she had been feeling, knowing that she'd distracted Acubens if she had been busy.

Lacerta straightened on her own and Acubens used one of her gauzy overlays to dry her face as best she could. She even tore a clean piece off and gave it to the younger Senshi. An act she was now mirroring from Scylla, a good Samaritan who had helped her so long ago... it was still such a strange sensation, having these tables turned like this. Now she was the one with foundations built on bedrock, watching someone else try desperately to build a castle on a sandy beach. It made her heart hurt that she couldn't take the feeling away from Lacerta like she wanted to. If she could -- if the consequences weren't so far reaching -- she would march the younger girl right into mirrorspace this instant and walk her through the black mirror herself. And if that didn't work, then she'd hunt down Remarque or Leto and demand that they bring this wayward girl home. Home. Acubens remembered, achingly, searching for home the way Lacerta was now. And she remembered also agonizing over the possibility of leaving everyone that she had ever loved to come home. She remembered anger and adulation. And the taste of dreams realized, and the waste dreams realized leaves behind. If it weren't for all that... if Lacerta could goon being who she always was as a civilian, she'd corrupt her right now. But that wasn't how that worked. Lacerta needed to know what she was risking before Acubens brought her home. Needed to know that to gain everything you needed to lose some things. That every action had an equal and opposite reaction and foundations build on slipping sand needed to be destroyed before you can build on sturdy bedrock. When had Acubens begun crying? She touched her own face, realizing how crumpled it must have looked, and pulled away a hand soaked with tears. She looked back up at Lacerta and forced a smile through her own anguish because helping was not as simple as just helping. Saving was hard and it was force Lacerta to turn her back on things to come home and oh god could she do that? She'd offered the same thing to Talitha and she hadn't seen or heard from the senshi again and Acubens was not sure if that was a good thing or not... And then the subject changed. And Acubens smiled in relief because her thoughts had been interrupted by a new story. Good old Destiny City. Acubens fought back a small smile as Lacerta ran through an obviously condensed version of what had happened to result in Lacerta finding a rin that looked... very familiar. Rhona lifted Lacerta's hand and held it close to her eyes, her brow furrowing as she inspected the band and the stone set within it. Yeah. Definitely familiar. Her smile widened as she drew her own conclusions and her own predictions as to what Lacerta had stumbled upon. "Oh, never you mind about me being busy. Nothing is more important than a friend in need. Besides, I was just walking around Mirrorspace looking for something. And this actually looks very similar to what I was looking for... I wonder if it acts similarly. Have you tried crushing it?" Now she was the one that sounded like a basket case. And besides, she still needed to find out what had shaken Lacerta so badly that she ended up in this sort of shape. Acubens shook her head, physically detaching herself from that train of thought. "Wait, hold on. What did you see tonight?"

At least she hadn't bothered Acubens by calling for her. If that was anything to be grateful for it was that she hadn't disturbed her friend. Feeling the fabric that Acubens gently used to erase the tear track marks on her face Lacerta felt herself calming down just a little more and yet even as she accepted the torn piece of cloth from the velociraptor senshi there was still a small undercurrent of welling emotion that refused to settle completely. At least now, in the present company, she wasn't feeling as alone as her vision had caused her to experience.
As she fingered the fabric Lacerta caught the tears that were starting to fall from Acubens eyes and wondered silently what was going on. Even as Acubens face took on a more normal expression there had been something that had caused a momentary lapse in concentration and something had been released. Reaching out to the older woman Lacerta pressed the torn fabric back into the senshi's hand. "You look like you might need this back," was softly spoken and then Lacerta gazed down at her ring. Crushed it? Was that even possible? Looking at the stone embedded in the ring she was unsure if it even would break under such force. "I could try to crush it but I'm not sure it is a wise idea..."
When the older woman asked her about what she had seen Lacerta grimaced. It would only be fair to explain about the building and the vision she'd had, wouldn't it?
With a sigh of resignation the red-head twisted the ring on her finger before starting her small tale, "well, I was trying to patrol tonight but wasn't feeling up to the task so I decided to start on my way home. I was going to take a short-cut when I saw something that caught my interest. I couldn't believe it so I went to investigate but it was what I thought it was ... a building covered by ice. Anyone would have been intrigued and I don't know ... maybe touching it wasn't a good idea but I got flooded with the sensation of extreme loneliness and it rattled me severely," Lacerta paused before adding quietly, "It's why I came looking for you."

A building covered in ice and a feeling of bone-crushing loneliness. Yes. The story sounded very familiar to Acubens. For a moment her expression was one of sudden understanding before she lapsed back into something darker. Though no tears flowed this time, the feeling of isolation returned to her in full force, and Acubens dealt with that feeling in the only way that she knew how. She got angry at it. Her jaw set and her brows furrowed into a tight line above her eyes and she answered, "I know the building." She twisted the fabric that Lacerta had given back to her in her hands and fought hard against the rage slowly building in her gut. So whatever magic that had tormented Acubens was also preying on her friends? It was probably a totally random happenstance that they had both been affected, but that didn't stop the anger from rising within her. "And it wasn't just a feeling, was it? It was a vision. You saw something the same way I saw my..." now Acubens' voice shook, not from anger but something else that she refused to name. After a moment of collecting herself she finished, "the same way I saw my funeral." She dabbed at her eyes with the fabric that Lacerta had given back to her and sighed to recenter herself. She would deal with these emotions later, right now Lacerta needed stability. Something reliable and fixed. Acubens had to be that fixed point for her. So she pushed the loneliness and fear away and focused on Lacerta in that moment. "You don't have to tell me what you saw if you don't want to, though. I'll tell you about mine, but," she shivered suddenly as a gust of wind picked up her hair and pierced her all the way through. "Maybe not here though. Let's go somewhere warmer, huh? Maybe get up off the ground?" Acubens smiled and stood up, extending her hand down to help Lacerta as well. "I can show you what I was doing before you called me."

It was all that she could do was stare for a moment before nodding dumbly in response to the question that had been posed to her regarding the ice-covered building. To know that she was not the only one that had been affected was slightly heart-lifting; but upon hearing about what Acubens had seen in her vision Lacerta paled. That would have been a horrible thing to have to relive. For a moment she was alright with the explanation of what her friend had seen and then was struck by the awkwardness of that simple statement. 'She'd seen her own funeral, how?' was the thought that rocketed through Izobel's mind even as she accepted the hand that Acubens offered to her in order to pull her up from the cold ground.
The girl remained silent for a moment before deciding to trust Acubens with her own experience. "What I saw was myself ... after willingly helping to destroy the one place that I was seemingly happy ... wanted ... embraced by a large, welcoming family. And yet even saying that I know that the life I thought I had led was some sort of circus trickery, I'd felt at home. And then I willingly helped destroy the illusion. But none of it was real. And yet I sometimes wish it was for I wouldn't be alone."
Clearing her throat as her words faltered Lacerta glanced to Acubens before glancing down at the ground. Her fuku had obtained a few grass stains but it would vanish the next time she powered up anyways. She was curious about the offer to see what the eternal senshi had been up to. "I'm definitely intrigued to see what you were doing when I called. It's alright to show me?"

Circus?Acubens' eyebrows knitted into a quick and interested line over her eyes. Circus... so it hadn't been just a dream? Visions passed over Acubens' eyes of a hay-strewn floor, the scent of animals everywhere, and the calling of a bird as black as night. She could still feel the bite of Alois' claws in her shoulder, the mocking of his sardonic laughter at those who surrounded him. The great, tottering grey bird named Churchill and the beautiful bone eater for whom she and... someone else... had planned a mate. Her hands, if she closed her eyes, could still trace the whorls of blue paint she had smeared across her face for a show she would never put on. "Show you? What? Oh!" Acubens shook her head as though waking from a dream. "Oh, yeah! I can totally show you, and meanwhile, you can explain to me the circus that you mentioned because... I think... it might have happened to me too..." Taking Lacerta's hand in hers, and passed a hand over the surface of the mirror through which she had emerged. It rippled under her hand, ready for her passing. "Keep a hold of my hand," she said with a warm smile. "And brace yourself. The first time you go through the mirror can be... shocking." Acubens could still remember her own time. Like running through a sprinkler in the summer. A sudden blast of cold that cut through you and then was gone an instant later. She had started out holding her breath, but those times were long since gone. "This is Mirrorspace," she announced, sweeping an arm out to the common room that always greeted her when she first arrived. "Well... one part of it. You asked what I was looking for, right? Well, this place spits out these crystals. If we find one today, I'll also show you what we use them for. Meanwhile though," she reminded with a bump of her shoulder, "tell me about this circus, and I'll tell you what I remember."

Izobel had been surreptitiously examining her ring once more and the stone that was embedded in the setting. The idea of crushing it wasn't appealing but what if that was how it worked. All she knew was that since she had acquired the object that she'd seemingly become impervious to everyday little disasters. Did the ring make her more durable? Odd way to describe the sensation but maybe she was onto something. Her internal musing was cut short as Acubens seemed to have been startled from something that she'd been remembering. Lacerta shakily rose to her feet and heard something that she'd not have expected to hear ... about her friend being a part of the same experience. Was that right?
The question died on her lips though as Acubens reached for, and took a hold of, one of her hands and pulled her gently towards the mirror in which she'd used to call on Acubens. How exactly did this work then? Her fingers tightened unconsciously as her nerves almost got the better of her. But knowing that she was in safe hands allowed her to relax enough to be transported through the mirror. The initial feeling of being drawn in through a surface that should not yield as it did was almost mesmerising and yet such a sensation did cause Lacerta's memories to take her back to a rather similar moment of the exact same feeling of being forcefully drawn through a vehicle's sideview mirrors.
However knowing who she was with was not enough to suppress the irrational fear of what had happened before. It had been when she was still new. It was that strange world with the glass pathway ... wasn't it? Her fingers clenched even more tightly to Acubens as she feared that if she let go then something on a similar scale of bad would overtake her again. Acubens wouldn't lead her into a trap. Trusting that she was not making a monumental mistake Lacerta relaxed her grip ever so slightly just as Acubens made her formal introduction of where they were. Mirrorspace. The space around her was eerie in the fact that it looked almost desolate and the place seemed to shift a little. Disconcerting, most definitely. But it wasn't filled with glass pathways that crumbled under one's feet.
Finding her voice the teen decided to relate her circus experience to Acubens. It would take her mind off of the strangeness of this place and perhaps show her friend that she was okay after the shock of finding herself in another dimension?
"I'm a little hazy on details but I swear that I was a part of a circus family. It's strange because I can't exactly pinpoint much besides the odd flash of memory. But it seemed real enough," Lacerta broke off to gesture with her free hand, "kinda like this place. It's real and yet I feel a bit surreal admitting it. These memories of being a performer in a circus is feeling surreal. But I was welcomed in. I think I enjoyed my time there for that very reason of being wanted. Not sure I can explain more than that."
Hearing that Mirrorspace was like an entity of it's own was intriguing and she glanced to her ring before her brow furrowed in thought. A small inquisitive part of her mind hoped they'd find a crystal. She wanted to see more. Her voice was quiet, whisper soft, as she spoke a little more.
"I'm not sure what hurt more with what I saw tonight: knowing that I belonged somewhere and was welcomed with open arms or if was all just a facade. One that I might have lent a hand in destroying. Not sure what hurts more."

Yeah, that definitely sounded familiar. The dream state, the logic that always accompanied dreams, somehow magically knowing everything that had never happened. Acubens nodded grimly as she listened, recalling shadows of her own. A savage costume and black feathers that filled her with love instead of dread. though she'd never made the connection to mirrorspace before. However, now that Lacerta had said something... yes, it did bear some striking resemblances. It caused a brief panic in Acubens, wondering if maybe Mirrorspace -- or more accurately, the chaos seed -- hadn't been to blame for the whole ordeal. But the memory of those terrible youma and the Ringmaster with his distinctly negaverse aura put those worries to rest. She let out a breath that she didn't know she was holding and forced herself to put it out of her mind. If she and Lacerta found what they were looking for, then she'd have a chance to check on the Chaos Seed and make sure it wasn't up to anything. "I'm hazy too," Acubens admitted with a small smile, squeezing the hand that she held. "I remember... birds. I think I was in change of them? Like a bird show? I know it sounds stupid, but I remember it being a big deal at the circus. Raptor Tamer. That's what I was. Fitting, huh?" She tossed a smile at her companion. "I think I had a special bird... but all I can remember was that he was black. nothing more." And then the admission that she wanted to belong. The more the teenager spoke, the more she sounded like Acubens had when she was her age. It broke her heart the same way it did whenever a white moon senshi shared the same fears as she had. It made her draw closer to Lacerta, bumping her shoulder with her own as she said, almost too simply, "You can belong here, you know." She swept her free arm out at Mirrorspace and tried her best to smile despite the heat in her eyes. "You can belong with us." You can belong to me.It was a notion that she didn't voice for fear of scaring the girl away, and yet she couldn't deny the feeling of fierce protection she felt for her. It wasn't a matter of growing their ranks with Acubens. It never was. It was saving people from a war that they did not have to fight. Bringing them into a fold that they could belong to. Giving them people to belong to. And people who could belong to them. "We can belong to each other," she finished, as a compromise between the thought that intruded her logic and the understanding that she needed to be gentle.

The idea that was proposed to her by Acubens was alluring. The chance that she could actually belong somewhere and have others looking out for her well being was a notion that was becoming more and more desirable. Her eyes glistened for a brief moment before she rubbed her ring-less hand across her face to hide the fact that she was overwhelmed at the suggestion that the Velociraptor senshi had put forth so simply. Hadn't something been said earlier though about the process not being an easy one?
What determined then the factor of hardness for whatever it was that needed to happen? Lacerta finished with a final pass of her hand over her eyes before taking in the common room area once more with a new sense of purpose. Would there be a time in the future that she could call this her own? Shaking her head Lacerta glanced at the floor shyly before nodding in response to Acubens suggestion of belonging. "I know you said it would not be easy but if there was ever a chance that I could belong here, I'd take it."
Pausing long enough for that to sink in Lacerta glanced back at her ringed finger before pondering the idea of crystals. She gave it a gentle twist before meeting Acubens eyes. She was feeling as if a burden had been lifted from her shoulders at the prospect of making that bold declaration. She sniffed once more before pointing at her own ring. "So, where does one go to find crystals?"

Not easy was... a bit of an understatement. Acubens smiled at Lacerta and squeezed her hand, offering, "if the chance ever comes up, we'd love to have you." Never mind that the chance could be now. She could call Remarque and he'd fly in and bring this wayward Senshi home... no. There was too much Lacerta would have to prepare for. Loose ends had to be tied up... Deaths had to be faked. That would be the hardest part... both to do and convince Lacerta that it would be worth it. And to get her through... "If you ever want to know about my corruption, I'll be happy to let you know... kind of let you in on some of the things that you'll face if you do choose this path. As for the crystals they just kind of... show up. Sometimes there are these huge cracks in the walls where they are generated, sometimes they are just lying around. A couple of times they fell from nowhere behind me." Acubens turned them around a corner into a hallway that didn't look like it should have been connected to the one they were just in. The style of architecture was different, the decor was different, even the way it was pointed, with a dead end before them and a new endless hallway behind them didn't seem possible. The only constant was a milky white color. "Normally I just wander around until one shows up. It can be relaxing."

Lacerta's nose wrinkled in confusion at Acubens last statement of just wandering around could be relaxing. Frankly the shifting hues of white and grey were beginning to make the senshi of bandages go a little cross-eyed. It was tough to pick out a spot and hope that it'd still be there if she looked away for seconds. However that was all left unsaid. Her fingers grasped at Acubens proffered hand. The space would take getting used to and Lacerta swore to herself that the view around them had just shifted once more. Her fingers tightened their grip unconsciously as she moved at the same pace as the Velociraptor senshi. There was no way that she'd take even the slightest risk of losing her guide to this place. Who knew what would happen if she lost the tenuous connection. This place was slightly eerie and Lacerta held back the questions that bubbled to the surface of her mind regarding everything.
Her heart did swell with emotion though as she recalled Acubens saying that the Dark Mirror Court would be happy to have her as a member. The fact that someone was willing to take her in, teach her and just have a place for her to belong was more than she could ever begin to hope for. A part of the bandage senshi yearned for any connection and she sighed before relaxing her grip a little. The offer to learn about how Acubens had become part of this family was unexpected and the teen jumped at the chance to gleam a little bit of information if possible. "If you are willing to share the details of corruption I'd love to hear them."
Curiosity had a way of burning bright inside her mind and learning of a process that could happen down the road would quell some of the questions that she wanted to ask.
