New Year's Eve has gone awry for you when pretty snowflakes turn into an ugly snowstorm in a matter of minutes. Your walk through the snow (to wherever it is that you were headed to celebrate the new year at) is becoming less magical by the minute and judging by the size of the hail pieces, you need to get out of it fast before you find yourself on the receiving end of some vicious bruises.

Unfortunately, the wind and the snow have made it impossible to navigate through and after a series of twists, turns and attempts to shield yourself from the storm, you find yourself on the doorstep of a clearly neglected cabin-type house. You're not sure where it came from but you don't have much choice but to make your way inside to avoid the fierce weather.

Inside, there's enough wood to make a fire in the fireplace, a small cot with a few dusty quilts, some half-burned candles and several canned goods (all that seem decently aged). You might even be able to find some alcohol hidden away, if you're lucky.

Judging by the way the wind is howling and the snow is piling up, though, it looks like you're going to be bringing in the new year stuck in this unfortunate place - better make due with what you've got!

Dani was hurrying to her friend’s house for the night of New Year’s Eve. There were snow flurries coming and it was quite wonderful. Well it would be, but she preferred the heat. Ting! Was that a … a hailstone? The size of a pea! She better get to her friend’s fast or she might be on the wrong end of bruises. She hurried faster and suddenly she was in a blizzard so thick she couldn’t see her hand in front of her face. She trudged in the blinding snow and hail for what seemed an hour and found what seemed to an abandoned cabin. In the big city? Odd. The door seemed to open easily. She called out. No answer. She wrenched her way in and shivered as she forced the door shut. She looked around and found a fireplace with a decent amount of wood, and two cots in the closet with some dusty quilts. She continued her search.

Jacques had been wandering around the shops for a bit, seeing if he could find any good discounts on any decent art supplies, but before he had been able to check out all of the stores, a blizzard had suddenly rushed in, with no warning, and made it so that he couldn't see two feet in front of himself!

He managed to bump into a couple of light poles, before deciding that it would probably be a better idea to go and head back to his house rather than trying to figure out where the next store might be. Though perhaps they would have been better, but he couldn't even see anything at this point, and using his phone, went in the general direction that his house was.

Although his phone was helpful for some of the storm, eventually the cold got to the machine and it had frozen, and so he was stuck wandering until he thought he saw a blurry object in the distance. He hoped that it was someone's house and went up to it. But when he finally got to the front door he realized that it was abandoned. As much as he hated it, he figured that it might be better to go inside and wait out the storm. Besides, if it wasn't safe to dwell in, wouldn't there be a sign or something?

He forced open the door with his gloved hand and immediately shut it when he got inside. When he looked however he saw a little girl was already in there, probably caught up in the storm also. And now he was stuck with her for a while. Great.

He gave her a weak smile. "Sorry, got caught up in the storm and I just wanted to wait it out." He said before going as far away as he could to the other end of the cabin. He didn't mind kids, but an older male being alone with a little girl tended to cause problems when people assumed things about the situation.

Dani stared at the older man who had just popped in. This could be… awkward to say the least. “Same here,” she said quietly. Well, there was nothing to do about the situation, so she took charge. “It looks like we’re going to be here for a while. I’m Dani, and I’m ten years, but I can take care of myself, I’m warning you now.” She didn’t want to use her Senshi powers on a civilian, but she would to protect herself if she had to, but first she would use her fighting skills. “Anyways, I’ve found that there a fireplace as you can see, with decent amount of firewood, two cots and some dust old quilts. I haven’t finished checking the cabin, but it seems we’ll be ok until the blizzard moves off.”

Jacques felt one of his eyebrows lifting as the girl seemed to take control of the situation. He hid a smile behind one of his gloved hands. "I'm Jacques." He decided not to reveal his age. This was already awkward enough. At least he wasn't 20+ or something though, then it would just be incredibly uncomfortable.

He got up and went over to the fireplace and looked inside to check that it wasn't blocked. The damper was closed, and looking around for a bit he managed to find how to open it. At least they wouldn't die from smoke inhalation then, but he didn't want to make the fire too big if they had to use it. He sighed. "Well, we can use the fireplace, but I wouldn't suggest making a huge fire. I'm not sure if the damper is open enough. I would use a fire as a last resort." After all, the cabin did look... abandoned and run-down. He would be surprised if anything functioned around it correctly.

Dani watched him, and then nodded. Jacques seemed to know at least something about fireplaces. “Okay, I leave you in charge of that is that okay? You seem to know a lot more than me. I think it would be safer.” She went to the closet where she had found the cots and quilts and started pulling them out, the quilts first. “Could you see if there is some food?” She realized that it was New Year’s Eve, and this was supposed to be spent with family and friends, but this couldn’t be helped. She set the blankets in the middle of the floor and went back for the cots. They were quite light and easy to handle. She set them up in front of the fireplace. It seemed the most logical, in case they eventually had to start a fire. She laid two quilts each (there were four total) on each cot. She also found two pillows and set them out on the cots. They too were dust. She looked at her watch. It was 8:30 PM. Her family and friends would be worried. She searched for a restroom, letting Jacques know that she was looking for one and found an outhouse version of one down the hall – outhouse as in the toilet didn’t flush, there was no TP, and there wasn’t even a sink. She locked herself in and whipped out her senshi phone. There were no bars- there wasn’t even power. Darn, she thought she charged just before she left too. She put it away and left the outhouse, returning to the main room of the cabin and warned Jacques, that they only had an outhouse for a restroom and that it was inside.
