Since the Winter Wonderland Carnival opened, there had been a section all the way in the back that remained blocked from view by wooden fences and blue tarps. Every now and then, sounds would be heard of an almost construction like nature but any questions were met with staff just telling passersby that it would be opening soon and to thank them for patience.

What in the world had not been ready in time for the opening?

Now, the fences are gone and the tarps removed allowing guests to see for the first time, the Winter Carnival’s pride and joy: An Ice Maze!

Eight Foot ice walls shoot up into the sky marking the entrance before returning to a mere seven foot the rest of the way through. Scattered throughout the maze are iced carvings ranging from the abstract to animal and human figures. Yet at the center was the true treasure: the figure of a woman made of pure ice resides in the middle looking out at all those who enter her maze with wonder. She appears as if she could almost step off her pedestal and speak with the people around. Even the small fairy like creatures carved around her appear to have their wings flutter in the glow of the twinkle lights hung above the maze center. There is something strangely alluring about her, and once you find her you may find yourself so captivated by her appearance that the rest of the world seems to disappear around you and you lose track of time. Thankfully, there are enough people that someone is bound to shake you out of your stupor...eventually.

Making it through the ice maze rewards you with a small little ice fairy sculpture, a souvenir and reminder for the evening. Each person is given one but if you ask nicely, they might just give you one or two more to take home as gifts. After all, who doesn’t want their own 12” tall dancing fairy made of crystal? After you exit the maze with your prize, you may find yourself dreaming of the beautiful icy woman in the center of the maze, watching you with her cool smile and cold eyes.

She was a curious cat by nature, at least that is what she would say if she was asked. Most of the time, Enyo knew well enough when to not stick he nose into anybody’s business. It came with the territory of being a part of an evil organization hell bent of killing an entire race of fighters and people bound to the rebirth cycle. Not that they would admit such. It was just a bit of how things were is all. Still, Enyo liked to think of herself as a smart cat, not poking any sleeping bears or wandering into foolish situations by looking for trouble. Just so happened that trouble often found her, that was all.

The constant noise was annoying but when all was said and done even she could admit she was mildly impressed. The walls were tall enough that even she would have trouble scalling them, claws at their sharpest. Not to mention the feet of getting walls of solid ice was impressive on it’s own. The weather of Destiny City would not allow for them to be sustainable for more than a day or two without constant upkeep and replacement. Perhaps, Enyo thought, it was a compound mixture made to look like ice. That would have certainly explained it and how they intended to keep it and how come it had taken so long to produce. The skating rink itself was already an oddity, this would have just made the whole things exceptionally suspect. Not that it already wasn’t but rather more than presently.

Meandering through the maze took a fair amount of time to be honest. No one told Enyo that someone would almost step on her and thus make her lose her place of which wall was the right side and thus her sticking to the right trick proved to be a complete failure. Pouting as she finally got to the center, Enyo’s tail flicked back and forth as she looked to the center piece. A woman, beautifully sculpted. It was a shame it would melt and have such a limited span of existence. Enyo sighed as she stared at it. It was sad in it’s ethereal beauty. A figure so well made, majestic and other worldly made with the intention to not last. Poetically tragic in some ways. How long she stayed, transfixed on the figure was hard to say, only that she felt sad when finally the din of humans around her drew her from her stupor. It was growing late, and it was by far time for her to go.

As acat, she didn’t get one of the little figures handed to her. She had to sneak it from behind the vendor on her way out. For all her trouble they could afford to lose a figure- besides, they certainly had enough to go around. It was large and she almost dropped it a few times, but her makeshift sled served it’s purpose as she took it to her second home, ferreting it away to admire.
It was nice, it it’s own way.
