Quote:
Among the nearby winter wonderland festivities sits a natural-made skating rink, constantly covered in men and women of all ages and all range of skill - some skate like pros and some are clearly new to the sport. As you make your way onto the ice, you seem to be doing fine… that is, until a wayward snowball comes hurtling in your direction -- look out! Hands find their way around you… have you been saved by a friend, or perhaps a good Samaritan that was skating by? Do they manage to keep you standing or did you manage to take them down with you? One thing's for certain...not even the most professional of ice skaters could have prepared themselves for that!

Dawn loved skating. She adored it. The freedom, the speed, the movement. It was a art form recognized the world over, granted that tended to be figure skating or speed skating which all required ice but Dawn loved skating in general. Rollerblading, ice skating, normal skating… the kind that had the wheels like cars not in a row. Just about the only kind of skating she didn’t like was Roller Derby but that was just because it was quite violent. She wasn’t much of a fighter. She would rather use her smarts to figure out a problem rather then her fists, she was a Girl Scout after all. So when she heard one of the Holiday Carnivals, the biggest in the city actually as far as Dawn could tell, had an ice rink she instantly began to pester her parents into letting her go. She really, really, really, wanted to go!

It took a bit of convincing, since the holidays were always hectic around the DaLumos house, but she finally got her father to bring her. Rather her mother tossed them both out of the house, not that the bouncy strawberry blonde really cared. After a fun day of shopping, even more amusement poking around at the booths and the games at the carnival she finally made it to the rink. It had people on it, for sure, but it wasn’t as crowded as it was earlier which is why she timed it just right. Not too late and not too early. A point when most people were stopping for food, or heading home, or hadn’t even been out yet. Their reasons didn’t matter since it meant that Dawn would be able to enjoy herself without worrying too much about running into other people.

With a soft ‘whoop’ the teen pushed off of the wall and started to glide on the ice. It took her a moment before she got into a rhythm but then, then she was flying! The cold air nipped at her nose and cheeks but it couldn’t erase the broad grin plastered on her face. Her pure joy and laughter following in her wake like imaginary bubbles of Christmas Cheer.

This was the best thing ever!

Skating wasn't something that Ashley had any particular like or dislike of, but since the ice skating rink was at the Winter Carnival and she didn't want to be at said carnival she was quite happy to dislike this particular rink by virtue of association.

She would have been quite happy at this point to pack it in and go home, but unfortunately her companions had still not had enough of the fair and whilst Ashley had managed to steer them away from the godawful-looking section close to the large tree by the children's playground and had flat out refused to go anywhere near the ring toss as politely as she could managed, Ashley hadn't been quite so successful at avoiding the ice rink.

"It's just like Somerset House" gushed her father's associate as he insisted on them 'trying it out', his wife bobbing her head enthusiastically in agreement even as Ashley looked over at the natural-made rink and took in the fact that most of the carnival goers appeared to have picked this particular time to use the rink.

Telling her father's business associate, that no the rink was nowhere near Somerset House, probably wouldn't go down well, if he even listened to her at all - and it didn't look she was going to get any help from his wife given that she seemed just as eager to go join the hordes–

Which was how Ashley had found herself on the ice and hoping that her (very) rusty basic ice skating skills would be enough to avoid taking any spills or tumbles, whilst mentally working out the shortest amount of time she would have to spend on the ice before she could make her escape.

No worries dear, I ended up flaking out shortly around then anyway. Hope the visitor was a good one ^,^

Dawn must have been skating longer then she thought since more and more people joined her on the sheet of ice. A lot more people who were a lot less steady on the ice then she was. Keeping that in mind the young teen slowed down until she was mostly just gliding. The drop in speed didn’t really bother her any, in fact it was rather refreshing since she was able to take in the world around her so much easier.

Humming along to the piped in music sapphire eyes drifted across the crowd. The people who wobbled on their skates, sticking to the edges of the rink or with their companions. The people who were with dates and snuggled next to their loves. The parents who were helping to keep their kids standing up right. It was a swirl of people. A flow of life. A sweet sight to just watch.

Unfortunately for the bairly just turned fifteen year old she was paying so much attention the people on the ice, those in her immediate surrounding, and forgot to be aware of the chaos off the ice too.

“Look Out!”

The shout completely missed Dawn’s attention but the snowball that smacked into her side sure didn’t! The sudden snowy spherical attack had her windmilling and wobbling and she knew she was going to be eating ice sooner rather than later. She just hoped she didn’t take anyone down with her.

Ashley figured that she was doing pretty well given how long it had been since she had last donned ice skates - and she was certainly doing better than her companions who were wobbling more than they were skating - or at least that was the way it was coming across.

Ashley, hid a smile, as she watched them for a moment before moving to skate a little closer to a spot that look a little less crowded–

But as she moved to do so a teen came careening towards her, arms windmilling in what appeared to be an attempt - if futile - to keep her balance.

Ashley probably wouldn't have cared if not for the part that she was in the teen's direct path and the other was coming towards her too fast for her to avoid, the automatic 'watch out' on the tip of her tongue unspoken as the practically inevitable collision happened with enough force to send her tumbling backwards.

That is the best kind of surprise then ^.^ glad you got to spend some time with them XD

The collision was inevitable and the two females went down in a tangle. It had only taken seconds but it felt like years by the time Dawn figured out what just happened. With a groan, mostly of frustration but with a touch of pain, the teen leveraged herself up into a sitting position and glanced at her hapless victim. “Are you ok? I am so sorry! Apparently someone must have started a snowball fight somewhere nearby and a stray projectile hit me and I guess I wasn’t paying any attention. I really didn’t mean to run into you. I really didn’t.” She immediately started to apologize, doing her best to explain what had just happened. “I’m normally much better on skates. Can’t do really fancy stuff but I don’t typically fall anymore but well,” She shrugged and looked down in embarrassment.

“Do you need anything? Like a doctor or ice or something? I’m sure they have a first aid booth somewhere or I can go get someone.” She was grasping at straws now. Trying to somehow make up for the inglorious tumble they both had taken thanks to her.

Ashley had hit the ground with a pained oof, grey eyes glaring at the source of her unwanted spill for a moment, before she shook her head with a sigh.

"No I'm fine" she said coolly, when it seemed like the babble-like explanations had come to an end, the three words both an answer to the 'are you okay' and 'do you need anything' questions both.

It hadn't been quite as bad a tumble as it could have been, her pride stung at having tumbled at all given the fact that she had been doing pretty okay before the other female had (pretty much literally) windmilled into her path.

Dawn was glad the blue haired lady was ok but she still felt horrible about the whole situation, the lady’s tone didn’t make it any better either. “Ah, um,” she bit her lip and eyed the rest of the rink occupants who were mostly ignoring them. There were a few glances their way, almost as if they were contemplating coming to see if they were ok or something. If they stayed on the ice too much longer she feared that their little ‘bubble’ of personal space would be interrupted by good Samaritan. With that thought galvanizing her, Dawn quickly made her way to her feet. She wobbled for a moment before she stabilized, at which point she extended a hand to help the lady up.

“I really, really am sorry. Is there anything I can do to make it up to you? I can give you skating pointers if you want,” She offered then blushed, “then again considering how we met maybe that isn’t such a good idea. How about some Hot Chocolate? Or something?” She didn’t have a lot of pocket money left after Christmas shopping but she owed this lady something for knocking her on her keester. If it took spending her last penny she would do that.

A part of Ashley had been tempted to ignore the hand hovering at the edge of her vision because she was quite capable of getting up under her own steam, but her 'I'm fine' comment seemed to have gone over the other female's head and maybe the other would go away if she let her 'help' her up–

And so she took the offered hand and let the other help her to her feet and while Ashley wasn't quite able to hide the annoyance in her eyes at the reference to skating lessons, she did manage to quirk her lips up in a smile that was completely fake - something that was somewhat aided by the fact that the other had self-acknowledged that the mentioned 'skating lessons' was not a good idea.

"No the hand up was more than enough," she said. "I was planning on getting off the ice anyway."

And it was even true as far as it went - although Ashley hadn't been planning to leave the ice quite so soon.

The impromptu tumble made as good an excuse as any - at least Ashley pretty confident that she could spin it that way to her father's business associate and his wife when they finally came over.

No worries ^.^ My nega girl would have been so so much worse XD and I would say this is just about done what do you think?

Dawn still felt horrible about her little part in the accident, she actually hung her head and blushed at the thought of the tumble. Even though the lady didn’t seem to mind it too much, she even smiled a bit, Dawn felt so bad. One could equate her look to one of a scolded puppy; sad and uncertain. “Are you sure? I’m pretty sure I have enough for hot chocolate or popcorn or something. It really is the least I could do.” She made her offer again as she helped the lady up and then started them back towards the rink exit.

She wouldn’t push it any further but it still stung to leave the other alone after just running her down. Maybe it really was time to call it quits on the ice since not only were there projectiles getting thrown around, the snowball, but it was also getting more and more crowded. Dawn knew that the more people meant that she wouldn’t be able to skate as easily as she could before. She disliked it but she knew that her time on the ice really was done for the day. It was unfortunate but Dawn knew she could come back later, besides her backside hurt now from the fall. Better to rest now rather than run the risk of making it worse right?

The corners of the 'smile' turned down fractionally for a moment before Ashley recovered herself and nodded.

"Yes I'm sure" she said, as she tried to mask irritation at having to repeat herself yet again with firmness, although she kept the tone of her voice polite - well at least she attempted to keep the tone polite "But thank you again."

And suiting actions to words, she started to make her way to the edge of the rink that served as an entrance before the other could think of anything else to offer.

She'd find somewhere to wait until her father's business associates were done - somewhere far enough away from the rink to (hopefully) avoid being asked by them if she wanted to go around again–

Because the answer to any such request would be as polite a no as she could get away with given that as far as Ashley was concerned she had had more than enough of ice skating.

No worries ^.^ it happens and yeah i would say this rp is finished heart

Dawn frowned slightly, nodding at the forced politeness and continued towards the exit of the. As much as she wanted to make up for the accident she couldn’t force the lady to take it. No matter how much Dawn really, really wanted to fix it. Once they reached the exit of the rink the teen apologized again and quickly escaped, hoping that if she left fast enough she could squash the desire to just shove some money into the lady’s hand.

She quickly got out of her skates and made her way back into the crowded holiday venue, mentally berating herself for the incident. She was a Girl Scout, she was meant to be helping people, not knocking them down! But there was nothing she could do about it now. It was over and done with. Dawn would just have to try to get over it eventually.

Maybe a drink would help! With that thought in mind the young girl sped off to find something, anything, to get her mind off of the whole incident.
