Quote: Near the outskirts of the clearing is a snow covered pathway leading into the adjacent forest. Couples and clusters of friends disappear into the shaded area, their delight in the beautiful scenery loud enough for any passersby to hear. Deciding to venture in to see what the fuss is all about, you (and perhaps whoever you're with) head towards the marked path. Twenty minutes or so in and you soon realize that you must have fallen distracted at some point because the path is no longer obvious and there's neither sound nor sight of any other people around. The sun begins to set and you can swear you hear quiet whispers among the trees. You'd better find your way back somehow - and fast - before the whispers’ owners find you first.
The commotion of the carnival around them had Bea's head practically spinning. There were booths full of games, food and trinkets galore - almost made her sad that she hadn't bothered trying to tug out one of her plastic bins and tried to sell a plushie or two for the holiday season. Judging by how sales went (or rather didn't) back at the convention, she wasn't terribly hopeful that the citizens of Destiny City were ready to accept her monstrosities here either.
Sigh.
With the way people were pushing and shoving, Bea found herself straying towards the edge of the carnival's general area, phone in hand as she tried to locate where Marnificent was, since she was supposed to be meeting the older girl there.
It wouldn't be hard to spot her colorful hair among the crowd... she just had to be able to see said colorful hair in the mass of wandering shoppers consuming the empty space adjacent to the forest.
"Marnieeeeeeee where are you?"

Shamefully, it took Marnie some time before she'd tried to make it back to her dearest best friend. Her determination to win a fitting prize for the white-haired girl had been had cost her nearly thirty minutes to return to where they were supposed to be meeting and by then, it was difficult to push through the crowd when she had a giant plush snowman obscuring her vision.
She'd definitely, totally ran into like four people before she ever saw Beatrice in the crowd.
Heck, if the girl hadn't started whining her name she would've never found her!
"Bea!" She called back, sticking her hand into the air like it would act as a beacon. "I'm over here!" Marnie called after, stretching on her toes to try and look around the thing she was carrying.
Finally, she spotted the girl and she hurried over, a big grin hidden behind the present.
"I won you this!!"

She'd taken to her phone fifteen minutes into waiting, first by texting the older girl with pestering messages and then eventually giving up the ghost altogether and playing her favorite phone app game: Monster Eater 5000. It pretty much involved being a monster hunter only you were a monster yourself and you had to eat the other monsters for energy. The giant purple ones gave you a quarter of your health while the puny little green ones were hardly worth the effort - the red ones, that's the one that made your rage meter go SUPER angry and you could chomp even faster and if you managed to find the little orange blobs, you cou---
Her attention was broken away from her current level (which was an impressive two hundred and forty-two, not to brag) when she heard her name being called back by her bestie. Dark eyes lifted up to look for the hair color of her fashionable friend but still didn't see her.
"Mar?"
It was about then that she saw the giant snowman plowing its way through the crowd. Little kids and adults alike were being thonked by the sheer size of the plushie, slender fingers clutching to the monstrosity as it barreled its way towards her.
Wait... as Marnie barreled its way towards her.
"Oh my god, Marnie, where in the heck did you ---- it's so HUGE!!!!"
The puzzled look turned into sheer excitement as the other girl announced the snowman was meant for her. She'd won a game - for her?? She could have very well kept the giant thing for her own collection but it was hella touching to know that it was done in her honor.
For the first time, someone else had given her a plushie and it wasn't until that moment that Beatrice realized this was a first. Heck.
"You're the best, MarMar," she praised as she attempted to share in the giant snowman hug, transferring the plushie from one girl to the other. Impulse had her brain already coming up with modifications to turn it into a snowmonster... but, no. Marnie had given it to her just like this and he was gonna stay the exact same. He was a gift, not a base.
"Imma call it Fred," she stated, matter-of-factly as her free hand reached over to tug Marnie in for a grateful, appreciative hug. "The crowds were getting to be a bit much, even for me. Didja wanna take a break, maybe wander around the less crowded parts?"

"I won him!" Marnie chirped, again, excitedly. She did for one split second look irritated when she realized that the giant thing prevented her from actually hugging Beatrice. "At the tinsel toss, I mean." She was stumbling over her words in a very un-Marnie-like way and her cheeks were reddening but she was pretty sure she could play it off as red from the cold and not like embarrassment. Or being flustered.
Or y'know, having just realized that she had like a big crush on her best friend because of some old lady serving tea.
Like, the feelings were probably always there, but she was pretty happy being oblivious. In fact, she wanted to go BACK to being oblivious so that she didn't have to keep thinking about how cute Bea looked when she was holding the snowman. Or how she really liked her braid and maybe it'd be nice to untangle it and finger comb it out---
"Oh, um the headband it's wearing? That's for you. So we can match and take selfies and post them to the internet." It all came out in a rush, but she was shoving the snowman aside to grab Bea's hand. "Yeah, let's find a part with less people." Once they were away from crowds, she could totally gather up the courage to tell Bea everything.
Probably.
Maybe.
Hopefully?

She seemed a bit... jittery. Like she'd eaten too much sugar or had a few energy drinks. It wasn't like Marnie's typical, laid back attitude at all and it had Bea staring at her curiously, a lopsided smile crossing her face.
"You okay there, Marzipan?"
Eyes glanced up to look at the reindeer antlers and she smiled appreciatively. She knew she'd end up looking like the biggest, dorkiest dork that ever dorked while wearing them but Mar would somehow make it look cute and fashionable with the way she accessorized with everything. It was okay though, she'd just give herself the hashtag #Dorker and make herself the unofficial ninth reindeer while Mar could pass off as like, Vixen or one of those other cute named reindeer.
"Yeah, that sounds like f---oh!"
Hand snatched, she was jerked forward and Bea and Fred found themselves following Marnie accordingly. After a little bit of walking, they both spotted the nearby trail and it was decidedly the best place to stay away from the crowds while at the same time getting to hang out.
Besides -- who knew what spooky sort of things might be lurking in the woods??
"Rasputin's gonna hate Fred when he sees him, haha." Dark eyes glanced over towards her friend as they made their way down the marked path, intentionally trailing further behind the groups in front of them to add more distance between them. Hugging the snowman at her side, Bea grinned at the thought of introducing her new plushie to the moody cat.

There were a lot of thoughts zipping through Marmar's head as they walked, almost side by side, almost hand in hand. Sure, they were holding hands but they were also struggling to keep Fred up and as proud as she was about winning him, she was still agitated that he was taking away attention from her from her very important friend.
"Rasputin hates everything," Marnie replied, almost snippishly before she peeked over at Beatrice and chewed on her lip. Slowly, she came to a halt and tugged on Fred, hoping that her friend would let him go so that she could properly look at her.
"Um. So. When I was trying the tea stuff or whatever? The old lady had like some really personal questions she kept probing me with and um. Well you see." Oh boy she was just stumbling over her words, toying with the hem of her shirt and not looking but definitely sneaking glances to read Bea's expression.
"I realized that I, y'know. Like you." She wrinkled her nose, twisted her hands together before taking a cautious step forward. "Like I wanna kiss you, like you."

She followed dutifully, never questioning where her friend was leading her as the older girl made a curt comment about her familiar. It was true - Marnie was just about the only thing that the hateful cat actually liked, despite Bea's desperate attempts to win him over with food and affection. All she ever got back were scratches and hisses but it didn't stop her from trying.
As Marnie stopped dead in her tracks, the sudden tug on Bea's new snowbuddy had Fred dropping down between them, his doofy smile staring up at the two girls as he fell back, rolling a few inches into the snow. The white haired girl started to bend down to pick him up but Marnie's sudden bombardment of words had her pausing.
Tea? Old lady? Personal questions?
Eyebrows furrowed as she studied her, confused as to why her friend was fidgeting as badly as she was, her words lacking the confidence they normally held. Her "realization" had Bea almost laughing, still confused... that is, until Marnie dropped the figurative bomb into the monologue she was yammering.
"O-Oh."
Marzipan wanted to kiss her? Like... kiss-kiss?
Pale cheeks lit up as she stared, stunned at the other girl. Her stomach was doing the little flips it liked to do when Bea got excited and nervous, a feeling she didn't normally find herself having.
"Well... um. If you wanted to, I..."
What was she supposed to say? As Marnie stepped forward looking nervous and anxious, Bea couldn't help but wonder if her mintberry chapstick actually tasted like mintberries. It was such a sudden, abstract thought that she found herself staring at the perfectly painted lips of her best friend as she stuttered back.
"I'm not really good at kissing. Talking like, probably major fish lips here. Experience is like, a whopping zero as far as skill level goes."
Still, dark eyes weren't leaving the lips as she shifted her weight from one foot to the other. It didn't make sense, tea and old folks and questions and yet...
"But, heck, if you still wanna..."

She hated waiting-- when it came to her having to wait for something, anyway. Marnie was lazy, most definitely, but that's because she liked things to run on her time and she thought she was going to die an agonize death because she had to wait longer than two seconds for Beatrice to figure out what she was saying and worse; she had to wait for Bea to decide if maybe she felt the same way.
If she didn't, well, Marnie made things suuuuuper awkward and she'd just have to hope that she hadn't royally messed up their friendship.
If you still wanna...
Marnie's head shot up and the teen took a step forward, booted feet nudging Fred out of the way. She could hear her heart beating wildly in her ears. Ba-dump, ba-dump.
"Really?" Blue eyes searched her friend's face before she grabbed a hold of both of Baebea's hands. "I really wanna," she confirmed before her head dipped and she pressed her lips softly against her very best friend's.

She could feel her lungs seize up as MarnieBarnie approached, then leaned down and those waves of pastel goth curls came tumbling down beside her cheeks. She smelled as fascinating as her apartment but that was old news to Bea - or it should have been but everything had taken on a new light, a new version and suddenly she was finding herself even more intrigued while her heart did small little pitter-pats in her own chest.
The kiss was soft, almost sweet in comparison to the boldness Marnie tended to display in every other facet of her world. It was nice -- definitely nice and it stole her breath away when the older girl finally pulled away, leaving Bea feeling dazed and more than a little confused.
Happy, but definitely confused.
Hands were still holding hers tightly and Beatrice squeezed back, a small little feeling of giddiness slipping over her as her brain tried to process what had just happened. What they were talking about. What her mouth had just touched.
"We should... probably go someplace a little warmer, yeah? So you can tell me all about this crazy tea lady and what the heck you're talking about?"
Fred still lay discarded, Bea not quite ready to let go, though she did glance around to notice that while the sky had darkened, there was little to no sight of anyone else around in the forest.
Oops.

Her cheeks were flushed from something other than the cold and Marnie couldn't keep the grin off her face as she practically beamed at her companion. "Y-yeah, I'll call my mom. She can pick us up." Her mom was in town by chance, an effect of the holidays she was sure and it was convenient since Marnie didn't like driving.
She grabbed Bea's hand, lacing their fingers together before she picked up Fred and shoved him back into the pale girl's arms. "You can't leave him behind, I won him just for you."
She giggled, feeling unusually giggle. "C'mon," she said right after, tugging Bea back the way they came.
